I brought my nieces and nephews here to experience boba tea for the first time while we were in town visiting. I purchased 7 drinks total using the kiosk. All but one enjoyed their drink but I replaced it with another one. So, I spent a nice penny in here. I probably wouldnt return because I was not greeted and didn't get offered any assistance while placing my orders on the kiosk. I did try to ask the guy for help and he gave me an answer that didnt really clear it up for me but I was already overwhelmed and just wanted to wrap up the order. My drink was decent but the service just wasn't up to par with my liking. It was mainly the guy. There was a female that apologized for the tea that wasnt good but that's it. JoYu is such a cute little cafe with friendly staff members who are professional and ready to help/answer questions. They do have a self serve kiosk for when you are browsing their menu, and they have nice pictures to accompany each drink. I wish JoYu had multiple locations or is closer to Norfolk because they are fantastic. I normally opt for their tea, but the one item I came away impressed with was their crookie. JoYu's crookie is a combination of a croissant and a cookie. The one I had was a chocolate chip cookie baked into a croissant. It's rich and the chocolate is so decadent, I loved each bite. I can't wait to return and pick up a few more of them. Service is fast and friendly - a friend and I didn't wait long for our order (we came in on Sunday night, and it was actually a little busy). Sophia and I were last here a year ago checking out this spot which was new at the time. Since we were in the area last Saturday, we decided to stop by to see what's been going in. We were greeted by the staff once we walked in. One thing that I noticed was they added a self-service kiosk which saves time for staff taking orders directly. As far as inside goes, everything looked pretty neat like before. And music was playing adding a calm-like vibe throughout. A few people were inside either dining in or ordering to-go. My selection was a large Strawberry Yogurt at 50% sugar with tapioca pearls added. This was very good. Not too sweet even with the pearls added. Sophia ordered an Ube Mike Cream and enjoyed herself as well. Not really much to add here, but once again, Joyu came through for us before we made the trek home. Hopefully, we'll be back soon. I have been on a search for a new boba shop since the closing of bamboo and I think I found my new spot! When you walk inside you are always greeted by the wonderful workers. The shop is really clean and organized. Make sure you don't forget their punch card which offer great rewards. My favorite drink is the Avocado Joyu, the avocado and condensed milk combo is amazing. Make sure you ask for boba because it's an additional add on, at first I thought all the drinks came with boba but they don't. I was kinda sad at first but now I know. I consider myself a regular at this boba shop- I come here at least once every other week! One thing I appreciate is that they offer both brown sugar boba and honey boba. The brown sugar boba complements the milk teas nicely, while the honey boba pairs well with the fruity teas. However, there have been times where they don't have the honey boba available, leaving me to opt for the brown sugar boba. I rotate between their Oolong Coconut Milk Tea, Peachy Matcha Milk Tea, Sunset Matcha, and Ube Milk Dream drinks. Lately I've been really enjoying the Peachy Matcha Milk Tea, and it seems to be a popular choice, given that it's listed in the Most Popular Category on their website! I've also tried their croffles a few times. They were delicious, and I liked how you can customize it. You can select your choice of fruit, cream, and sauce, and for an extra charge, you can get ice cream and extra toppings. Although my experience has been good, it has gotten a bit pricier since it opened up. Usually, the smallest drink with boba is $8 (tax included). LOVE JOYU! Be sure to get their punch card! After a certain amount purchased, there is either 10% or 15% off and after completion of the punch card, a free drink! I believe they do honor military discounts, but no stacking. This has to be my all time fave Asian drink place. I'm not a boba fan, but they offer a lot of milk teas and teas in general, along with customized croffles, so this is where I'm sold. That and their drinks taste good! There is an extensive list of drinks, so it can become overwhelming. I personally try to look online to help narrow it down, prior to going. They offer seasonal and new drinks which are often advertised on their IG account or website. So be sure to check that out. They do offer various levels of ice, and sugar and the option to add additional toppings for a fee. Make sure to inform them if you want less ice and less sugar, sometimes it's not asked and other times it is. Their croffles are really good, especially since you're the one customizing it. You choose a fruit, cream and sauce. Options for ice cream and toppings added are an additional charge. They now sell Madelines which my husband purchased and enjoyed and now macaron ice cream sandwiches and Thai creme brûlée. The young lady that assisted me today was very kind, patient and helpful! All the Boba tea places are popping up like coffee shops and I am totally fine with this. Because at all of the tea and coffee shops everyone has something different that is my favorite. I have come here a few times already and get something different every time I come. The drinks have all been fantastic. You can choose sweetness, level of ice and all that. They do have some unique drink options. The most different one I have tried is the Honey Floral tea with strawberry jellies. This one was so beautiful looking too. I have had the regular croffle and the cheese croffle both good. Interesting because you can get different fruit and different sauce making them taste different. Plenty of different little food options. Not all the staff are great. And they are so busy sometimes it takes a while to get food and drinks. What a cute cafe! We were on a Target run and were pleasantly surprised to find a boba joint in the adjacent shopping plaza. The space is neat and bright. It was a Thursday night so it was pretty quiet. You are able to order from your table using the QR code on the table tent. Like other bubble tea places, you can request your level of sweetness. I find that many of these drinks are already very sweet... that said, I ordered my matcha joyu eith 0% sweet. It still had a light sweetness, and the creamy texture is amazing! Yum! We needed a late night spot open at 9pm for a snack and coffee and found this nearby. Friendly staff greeted us upon entry and there is a ton of parking as this is in a strip mall location. Super clean inside and very white and nondescript with some cute Instagrammable neon signs on the walls and games to play at the tables while you wait or hang out (we played Jenga while waiting for our goodies). They have a stellar menu with tons of fresh teas, add-ins, as well as coffee and smoothies. They didn't just have a few coffees either, they had about 7 on the menu. They also had some delicious, fresh-basked cheese danishes, waffles on a stick, and large muffins. We chose a Cinamel Hot Coffee for me, a mango smoothie for my husband and a chocolate muffin. I went with 25% sweet with my coffee and SO glad I did - 25% was almost enough to pucker my lips - I can't imagine anything higher! The muffin was warmed (we loved that - didn't ask but wanted that) and was soft and delicious. My husband inhaled it. Ha. My coffee was SO good. Very strong cinnamon and sweet caramel taste. I probably didn't need any sugar in it and will try without next time. They had a ton of teas and about 3-4 other coffee drinks I'd like to try (matcha, mocha, and Vietnamese are three that come immediately to mind). Some better than others yet I haven't had one that I've disliked. As of right now my favorite drink has been the Taro Milktea. I checked the website again and she was correct, I forgot that I picked the large size for my drink, therefore there's an upcharge. I took back the comments regarding to the prices abd I apologize for that‍ Lately I've been craving for Matcha, and looks like Joyu has a variety of matcha so I'd give it a try. The staff are nice and helpful with explaining the drinks. They seemed to be busy everytime I came, so beware of that. On my first two visits I choose to order at the store and it was a mistake. I happened to arrive when they had a big party and couple customers ahead of me who ordered/just ordering. I ended up waited for 15-20 minutes for my one drink each time. The third visit I ordered online through their website, which was the right decision. Therefore I recommend you to order about 10 minutes ahead online. During my first visit I ordered the Matcha Joyu with coffee jelly, and sadly I wasn't a fan of it. There was little matcha flavor but a heavy flavor of sweeten milk and foam. The coffee jelly is too sweet for me and the coffee flavor tasted artificial. It was a bummer cuz I was excited to taste what "Joyu" is but ended up being a sweet milk foam. The second visit I got the Green Coffee Latte with brown sugar bubbles. This time they deserved a 10 star! I don't really like super sweet food/drink so I asked for 25% sweet considering the bubbles has brown sugar, and the drink is perfect for me! The matcha flavor is also so much stronger than the matcha joyu. And the coffee is strong like how I like my coffee. Overall the coffee/latte are spectacular but the "joyu" drinks and coffee jelly are meh for me. However, me not liking the matcha joyu doesn't mean that others won't either, so you can give it a try. The services are great and the staff are trying their best to make all these wonderful drinks not only tasted good but pretty despite being swamped! My suggestion is having a menu with bigger letters or some monitors to show what the drinks look like and what's in them. It might help customers to have better understanding with the drinks without asking the busy staff, as well as promoting the drinks :) read more

This is a quaint little shop located next to DMV and Target, off Buckner Blvd, close to the intersection of Independence Blvd and Princess Anne Rd. The bakery selection consists of croffles, Danish, cookies and muffins. You can build your croffle with toppings and ice cream. The drinks include coffee, blended drinks (boba optional, milk teas and fresh teas. I choose the CocoTaro, which is coconut and taro blended drink with boba (sugar tapioca pearls) and a built my croffle with chocolate cream mango, ube ice cream and almonds. Oh my gosh! I can't believe I just found this place. Delicious! The croffle wasn't overly sweet but the matcha and cream really push it over the top! You get too little ones which make it really delicious. Plus that I added some fruit to sop up the extra cream and matcha. It was divine! I got a hot Vietnamese coffee. It was good. I'm not bouncing off the walls so wasn't quite as strong as normal Vietnamese coffee. That's okay! They had coffee jelly! That's right, coffee jelly! That's basically Jello that tastes like coffee. This was my second visit to JoYu and actually enjoyed it even more this time. My husband got the classic Vietnamese, I got a matcha (forget the exact name) and my kids split a mango one without caffeine. Honestly they were all really really delicious, and hit the spot. I really appreciate that you can select your sweetness level, as overly sweet stuff is something that turns me off from some places. But here the flavor was even very authentic with my matcha, I loved it. I can't give this place 5 stars yet because 1- the wait is pretty long, no matter what. Granted, they stay busy, but it seems like they could do better than a 20 min wait time for 3 drinks. And, 2- the incredibly strong smell of fragrance when you walk in is unbearable. I have severe allergies to artificial fragrance, and felt pretty rough being there as it was so pungent. We didn't eat inside, but if we did I'd imagine it would be hard to taste your food/drink with a smell that strong. Just a note to management- definitely recommend doing without the air freshener! read more
