Took my cat Sassy to get spayed, and the clinic took amazing care of her. They called me twice afterward to check on how she was doing. Meanwhile, June Bug missed her friend while they were in different rooms -- when they reunited, Sassy gave June Bug the sweetest "miss you" hug. Wonderful staff who truly care. BEWARE!!!! Wharton Veterinary Clinic takes zero responsibility for their negligence in my experience with them!!! I originally brought my cat to the clinic on Saturday, November 23, 2024 because she was attacked by a stray dog. Clearly I am not a veterinarian so I did not know the extent of her injuries which is why I brought her to the vet clinic. Visibly one leg was in bad shape with an exposed tendon and required medical attention. I asked Dr. Pohler if he thought her other back leg was injured or if she was injured in any other way since she had been violently shaken to the best that I could tell to which he said "no". He partially cleaned and stitched up her wound. He said she should be up and walking by the end of the day which never happened. The clinic called to check on the cat Monday morning. I explained to them that she was still not walking on either leg, and I thought something was wrong. They said to continue to monitor her. I called the clinic on Tuesday to make an appointment for Wednesday because Priscilla was falling over and not able to put weight on either leg still. After bringing her back in, the female veterinarian determined INSTANTLY that the opposite leg was broken. Why could this veterinarian tell immediately the leg was broken by feeling it, but Dr. Pohler said NOTHING was wrong with her other leg on Saturday during his "exam"? The negligence to fully examine the cat caused her IMMENSE and UNNECESSARY pain and suffering for DAYS! The female vet did an x-ray and determined it was a TRIPLE COMPOUND FEMORAL FRACTURE. THREE BREAKS. Dr. Pohler MISSED THREE BREAKS in the leg. Not only was the leg broken, but the other leg he treated was severely infected. At this point I lost all faith in Wharton Vet Clinic. Yes, the other vet found the broken leg, but I was still in shock that the owner and head veterinarian let us walk out of the clinic on Saturday in this condition! Now we had one broken leg and one severely infected leg. I rushed the cat to another animal Hospital for treatment. The wound Dr. Pohler treated had to be unstitched, scraped, and treated with open wound care and intravenous antibiotics in hopes of saving the leg. Her broken leg could not be amputated because the veterinarians were afraid she would lose the other leg to infection so the cat underwent surgery to repair the breaks with plates and screws. Yes, Priscilla needed surgery on her broken leg either way, but had Dr. Pohler properly examined her originally, surgery could have been performed that week instead of over the Thanksgiving holiday with emergency fees. Also, had he properly treated her open wound the day Priscilla was brought in originally, she would not have needed open wound care for 6 weeks resulting in more expense. After speaking with the practice about the horrible care provided, they refused to take any responsibility and still demanded I pay the bill in full. I highly recommend Dr Lauren Davang . I have seen her now a few times , and she is my equestrian vet . She is extremely professional , kind , and knowledgeable. She always answers questions and makes me feel like my horse is in good hands . All of the staff was kind to me and they emailed me notes very quickly . read more

I took my full blood Persian cat to get groomed. They scheduled her for two days later. They have groomed her before and sedated her because she's a brat. When I went to go drop her off The girl at the front desk asked me how I wanted her groomed and I said 1 inch of hair all the way around (she would look like a teddy bear). No one mentioned scheduling, sedation, or any issues with grooming. I dropped her off at 8:30 AM. I called them at 2 PM after not receiving a call to come and pick her up and I asked them when she would be ready and they stated that she would be ready later in the day, probably four to 5 o'clock. They called me back a little later and said to be there within 30 minutes which would've been 3:30. When I show up to pick her up I waited 15 minutes for them to bring her to the front and the girl that handed her to me in her crate said that she was a feisty one and I responded, "why didn't they sedate her?" The girl told me that the groomer doesn't like to use sedation on cats because it can be harmful. I get her groomed maybe twice a year and I would think that would be my decision to make. Then the girl says it took three of them to hold her down, and that the did say that she probably needed sedation. When we got home and I let the cat out she looked terrible! Her hair was nowhere near 1 inch long and she had some long spots and short spots and her eyes weren't even clean. I called the next day to get my money returned and they said I had to talk to an office manager that wouldn't be there until monday. I waited the week and then I called Monday the office manager told me I had to talk to the groomer about getting my money back but that she wouldn't be in the office till the next day. I'll talk to the groomer today which is Tuesday she gave me all of her excuses of why they cat looked terrible, they should've used sedation but it was too late in the day and randomly she was pushed to the end of the day and then hurried because I called, Persian cats have soft under-fur that make it difficult to cut, that she didn't have the right equipment to cut her the right way she said something about a number five which I have no experience grooming so I have no idea what she was talking about, the groomer was overwhelmed because of everyone coming back from the hurricane evacuation and getting scheduled. All of these reasons that have nothing to do with me. I told her if you couldn't sedate her I would've waited to the next day and instead of gotten back this terrible looking cut, if it wouldn't look right to cut her with your equipment I should've been notified and asked if I wanted to go ahead. And then she told me that I could probably get a discount but not a full refund because they have to pay the people that helped hold her down. And that I would have to talk to the office manager about that Who is not here today and that would have to call me in the next couple days. Completely ridiculous my cat looks terrible and they're refusing to give me my money back even though they agreed that she looks terrible because of the service they provided. I will tell everyone I know the experience that I got there! And I will update this post after I talk to the office manager for the second time. I spoke with Lynn the office manager and she said I could either pay for sedation and the groomer would shaver the cat down or I could get a refund and never use them again... well, that's a no-brainer! read more

There is not an option for zero stars first off. I took a rabbit we found on the side of the road that was dying to this clinic. The vet called me and told me it was dying which I knew. She asked my permission to put it down and I explained it was a rabbit I found and I consented as it was suffering. I got a bill in the mail for almost $300.00. I would have been happy to pay a euthanasia fee but an exam on a dying rabbit with a fading heartbeat and I already knew it was dying?! So ok I understand I have to pay this bill, due to COVID I was barely back at work. I called the office and explained I was struggling to pay my bills and would gladly pay them back the full amount if I could please make payments around when I got paid. I was shut down immediately and told no it would have to be paid in full. They slapped with me finance charges on the unpaid balance even though I paid them each month. My advise.... Do not use them!!!! I was trying to do the right thing for a rabbit I found and these folks gained almost $300.00 to stop its suffering. read more

I have taken my two cats to be neutered. The facility is clean and the receptionists were pleasant. I chose this veterinary clinic due to the lower costs for neuter/spaying services. It is affordable. My cats were well taken care of, and they will give you a courtesy call to give you a report of how he/she is doing. I would recommended anybody in the Wharton area to go here for your pet's veterinary needs. read more

Dr. Pohler is the best vet ever. I can't express how grateful we are for him, we have used him for the past 10 years. We rescued our first dog who tested heart worm positive and Dr.Pohler saved him. I've had to call him for emergency visits, and have never had a problem. he has always been so helpful with advise and suggestions. Most of his staff is very friendly I personally enjoy working with Shannon or Bianca. The only thing that keeps me from giving this place 5 stars is depending on who I talk to my medication does not get mailed out when it's suppose to. read more

When you ask to pay the whole bill, that means the whole bill anywhere else. Not here. MIL continued to receive bills for an account she was told when leaving had been paid in full. Finally got a phone call about it, and they claimed to have forgotten to charge her for something. Will not use them again. read more

We have used WVC for both large animal (cattle) and small animal (dogs and cats) care for many years. Dr. Pohler is the most caring veterinarian I have ever encountered, but considering he's an animal lover himself, that should be no surprise. We have 2 English bulldogs who require frequent visits for their breed-specific problems, and WVC gives us conservative and practical advice. One of our dogs had a serious injury that another vet clinic said would require a very expensive surgery and a long recovery time. Dr. Pohler suggested a more conservative approach that saved our dogs life and did not require surgery. The entire staff is cheerful and professional. Our vet clinic for life, we feel so lucky to have a world class clinic so close to home. Thanks WVC! read more

Horrible customer service. They squeeze every dine out of you. They told me one price for our dogs nutering and then it was almost two hundred dollars more. Also, we have our dog on flea medicine and I called for a. Refil and they said no problem come pick it up. But then when I found it online for cheaper they denied the prescription because I wasn't buying it from them. That is not how ypu treat your loyal customers. Lucy Pustejovsky is a danger to your pets. Please protect your beloveds from her and find another veterinarian. When Pustejovsky was at Bastrop Veterinary Hospital, she was responsible for the death of my horse. She put my beautiful horse, Harvey, who was 4.0 lame with a joint infection, which she knew but never told me, in a furacin-DMSO sweat wrap and told me to move him around! She did not give him any antibiotics at all. She never took a joint tap or an ultrasound. She delayed proper care for Harvey until he could not be saved. He spent months suffering at A&M while they tried to save his life from the damage Pustejovsky caused. Please, find another veterinarian. My horse Harvey did not deserve to die, and I did not deserve to have my pet tortured by a veterinarian so ignorant she decided she was part of our judiciary system. Research her name and Harvey's and decide for yourself if you can trust her with your pet. Then please, please, find another veterinarian. Save your pet the agony my horse went through because of this vile woman who has no business holding a veterinary license. read more

Very cold atmosphere and very business oriented. They arent interested in treating your pet like a family member. They squeeze every penny they can out of you also. The staff is not friendly, the doctors dont return calls and tell you two different things, they load your animal up with ridiculous medication. Its a horribly greedy place. I started using Alamont Vet Clinic in Wharton. The staff at Alamont is very friendly and warm. They treat your pet like it was their own and the Doctor is very knowledgable. Alamont's prices are more reasonable and they dont give your animal anything more than whats needed. read more
