I got takeout for lunch today. The gluten free bagel what quite good! It tasted delicious with the lox and trimmings. My husband got a salad and wow, it was huge. Pickup was fast and efficient. Dine in looked really busy. I would love to get takeout here again!
It's been a while since I've been to What a Bagel, and I don't even know if I've ever dined in before. Usually, my friends and family would get takeout bagels for me, and I've always enjoyed them. But today, I decided to treat myself to one of their steak bagel sandwiches, and it was really good! It had a solid sear on the steak with a fluffy egg layer. Though it did take about 10 minutes or so to be ready, I did some work while waiting, as I was in between meetings Downtown and didn't feel like hitting up a café now that I was already at this stop. The Spadina location was quite spacious, though there was music playing in the background, so I wouldn't say it's super quiet or easy to find a plug for extended work. However, for a short work session, it's not bad, especially since it's not too busy in the middle of the weekday. The service was really friendly as well, and they showcased all the different bagel options they have. I went with the marble.
This is going to rub some peoples the wrong way.. but this place is top 3 lattes in the area.. The food was tasty and feels fresh and healthy for sure, no complaints! But the flavoured lattes are the reason for my 5 stars

The employees were kind and even recommended a few bagels I should get for my friends and I. Unfortunately I wasn't too hungry, so I managed to just get 3 bagels to take them home and enjoy there. When I received the bagels, they were still very warm to the touch, as if they were freshly baked. I got home and quickly ate my bagel with some cream cheese, and all I've got to say is it was delicious! I think I may have found my new go-to bagel joint in the city.
What A Bagel is by far the best breakfast or lunch restaurant in Toronto. They don't have many tables, but it only takes a few minutes to be seated. Their bagel sandwiches are amazing. But it's the "grand slam" I get. Their pancakes are consistently fluffy and moist. The price is fair for all the food. The servers are polite and efficient. The Israeli salad is also great.
Service was meh, guy making the bagel could not have any patience. I asked what jam they have 3 times, 1st time was ignored, 2nd time he asked me to check the paper in front which only has cream cheese flavours, 3rd time he took the time finally to tell me only strawberry flavour. The other guy at cashier seemed like he had no patience either. Also although there are seating spots he said I have to dine-in to sit, so I had to order take-out and eat outside on the street. Food itself was fine. Nothing extraordinary but it id a decent bagel. On the expensive side though. Would not recommend unless you are on the run and need a quick food grab to carry out with you. Their coffe was also average (quite expensive for its quality) Bagel being decent is the only reason for the 2nd star.

The bagels were big with a barely-there bagel hole (honestly this can be a controversial topic among bagel aficionados but I actually don't mind because usually all the cream cheese comes out of the hole! anyways..) and airy and fluffy. I got the everything bagels and they had a good amount of topping (mostly sesame and poppy seeds) on them and they tasted pretty good even without any cream cheese. They also tasted just as good out toasted out of the freezer. I would definitely recommend trying some of the bagels here, pretty much grocery-store prices for a much superior product. Staff were also nice.
The everything bagel was crunchy on the outside, soft and pillowy inside. Cream cheese was more sour flavor vs the sweet/creamy I'm used to. Very good and fresh. Different seasoning than Illinois bagel which was a nice change. Definitely worth stopping off for a quick breakfast/meal
Quite honestly, WAB never fails as a breakfast, lunch and snack option - open for dinner already, guys! All their eggs are buttery, creamy, and fluffed to the max. Paired with with the house salad which has a nice tartness in its dressing, and of course their in house baked bagels - perfection every time!
Really enjoyed the everything bagel with extra cream cheese from here. Soft bagel with a nice crunch on the outside. Very fresh tasting. The cream cheese was a bit more sour than Im used to bit pretty good.
Terrific breakfast! The bagels were the perfect combination of crispy on the outside but chewy soft. The shakshuka was so flavorful and hot from the oven, with 2 perfectly cooked eggs. My wife had a lox sandwich on a pumpernickel bagel, and she said it tasted better than any she had when she lived in NYC. The service was friendly and attentive too. It's a must stop for all future visits to Toronto.

Disclaimer: I'm not Canadian but I LOVE bagels and this was my first visit. I enjoyed their toasted marble bagel. To be honest, their plain cream cheese wasn't my favorite and I was hoping it'd be fluffier, but that's just my preference so can't complain. I really enjoyed the fresh juices and smoothie options too - I wanted to try them all, but went with the classic OJ. The coffee was good - nothing to write home about. The people who helped me (I had about three workers help) were very kind. In particular, since I was visiting, I wanted to take several home and he carefully packaged them up for me (although, they ended up getting completely smushed in my carry on - #WorthIt). They also had pastries but I wasn't interested in those - your typical croissant, cookies, etc. The ambiance was just a typical shop/deli. I can't wait to come back and try a hot breakfast bagel sandwich next time - those looked great! Bonus - (not pictured) they have day old bread for a discounted price. I wanted that too, but no more space in my luggage; what a steal! read more

2.5 stars really. The service is decent but the kitchen is extremely slow every time I go. If you have lots of time to kill and are a type B person who likes bagels, check it out. If not, maybe just do takeout. The staff are nice but the whole place just feels disorganized. read more

Terrific breakfast! The bagels were the perfect combination of crispy on the outside but chewy soft. The shakshuka was so flavorful and hot from the oven, with 2 perfectly cooked eggs. My wife had a lox sandwich on a pumpernickel bagel, and she said it tasted better than any she had when she lived in NYC. The service was friendly and attentive too. Delicious bagels that I have on good authority are nearly as good as the ones in New York. Their bagels have the perfect consistency, not too dense and a bit chewy. I recommend the marble rye with one of their fresh cream cheeses! It's a little bit disorganized in there and you have to watch for crowding occasionally but it's worth it. And they have a nice big patio outside. read more

This bagel shop is slightly above average with its presentation and options. I got a rainbow (colored plain) bagel with butter and my friend got an everything with one of the cream cheese. We also grabbed a plain bagel to go with nothing done to it. I noticed the price was just under $10. For basically 2 bagels and only one had cream cheese. In hindsight I think the place charged for 2 cream cheeses. But still that makes it almost $4 per bagel plus the 85¢ plain bagel. Overall the rating is low because the prices are a bit crazy to me. Such a crowded place!! So many people in line, waiting and seated. Got a twisted bagel with plain cream cheese to go and an untoasted plain sesame bagel to go as well. I was a little disappointed to see that the bagels were New York style and not Montreal style, so when I took a bite my cream cheese bagel, it was soft and bread like, just like eating rye bread. Similarly, my sesame bagel had the same texture. Also a little disappointed that the cream cheese didn't have much cheese flavour, it was gooey and sticky. read more

It was costumer appreciation day today (April 2nd) and What A Bagel was giving out 6 FREE Bagels no purchase required! I got 6 super freshly baked and warm Poppy Seed Bagels. The line up took about 50 mins i was there from 10:15-11:10, but was totally worth the wait considering how fresh the bagels were! The warm bagels were nice and soft on the inside, and tasted amazing with the regular cream cheese I had. What A Bagel has a super wide selection of all types of bagels from the classic plain, Poppy Seed, Cheese, Sesame Seed and many more. They just simply taste so good with a spread of cream cheese. Aside from bagels, they also have all sorts of pastries, bread and baked goods that are neat to grab on the go. We stumbled upon What a Bagel on Labour Day, when everything else in the neighbourhood was pretty much closed. The patio initially drew my attention, even though I thought it belonged to the place next door. With hesitation, we decided to have brunch here--and I'm glad we did. This location has a tiny kitchen which servers "diner-style" dishes. Indoors, there are only several tables to sit and I imagine that in the winter those spots fill up fairly quickly. The patio on the other hand had plenty of tables. So if you're in the mood for some house-made Challah and maybe a mimosa--this is a good place to start. I ordered the Beet It Salad, while lunch date ordered a Latke with a poached egg and salad. Now, the food was really nothing special--typical diner eats. I am, however, impressed by the generous portions and the availability of healthy options on the menu. The Latke was a sad interpretation, it's definitely more of a hash brown. Nevertheless, I am a fan of the Challah bread--it's so soft and fluffy! If I'm ever in need for a quick breakfast/lunch in the neighbourhood, I will definitely stop by. read more

Had the rainbow bagel with sprinkles cream cheese, chai latte, egg benedict (hashbrown as bread subtitute) cucumber salad, sweet potato fries with spicy mayo. Everything was so good and the spicy mayo was the best ive ever had. I came for the bagel but surprisingly their menu was really wide. I liked everything i ordered. This place was bustling on a Saturday afternoon! A lot of people were getting take out, so we managed to nab a coveted seat. We were told there was a 60 minute seating limit, but we didn't feel hurried at all to pay and leave. I got the New Yorker Breakfast Bagel (with your choice of side and bagel). The home fries were nicely seasoned. So crispy on the outside and soft on the inside! There was a nice balance of ingredients; I don't usually like raw onions but it balanced out the sandwich nicely. The cream cheese wasn't overpowering. My dining group also had the shakshuka, turkey bacon, and salami so I was able to taste a nibble. I can attest that those were great too. It was a nice change of fare from the usually greasy diner bacon. Service was speedy, and I was impressed by the manager even pitching in to clear our plates.
