Two nights ago, 05/30, my friends and I dined-in at this Whataburger. We sat near the back exit closest to 290. Sat near us at the table adjacent to the door was a man in a black hoodie and black pants who, we didn't know this at the time, was open-carrying a firearm and was playing on his phone. In the middle of our meal, a gentleman approached the entrance near us and when he tried to open the door, it was locked. The man seated adjacent to the door was pointing at the front entrance as if to tell him to go around. My friend, who actually did not notice this gesture because he was seated with his back to the man, opened the door for the customer and went back to sit with us. It was at this point that the man seated by the door started mumbling to himself about his disapproval at the actions of my friend. He did not say anything directly to my friend. He did not tell my friend not to open the door when he saw him get up to do it. He did not inform us whether the establishment was closed. He just started mumbling harshly to himself as my friends and I continued to converse. I am not sure if he wanted us to hear him or not, I assumed no because he did not start doing it until my friend had already seated himself and we had already started socializing again. A few minutes later, another gentleman comes to the door. Same thing happens, the guy seated by the door points to the main entrance as if to tell him that that's where he should be entering. When the man gets there, the door seems to be locked. Again, my friend, who was simply trying to be helpful to other customers, stood up and walked all the way across the store to open the door for the gentleman. It wasn't until he was already at the door that the man seated by the other door stands up and aggressively starts YELLING across the room, demanding my friend "SIT DOWN", "STOP OPENING THE DOOR", "YOU DON'T WORK HERE SO I DON'T KNOW WHY YOU KEEP TRYING TO OPEN THE DOOR FOR PEOPLE", among other exclamations. Then my friend, who is confused as to why what he thought was a random man is yelling at him, asks him "do you work here?" to which the man flashes his holstered firearm and says "YOU SEE THIS GUN? YES I WORK HERE, IM SECURITY! BUT YOU DON'T WORK HERE SO I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY YOU KEEP OPENING THE DOOR FOR PEOPLE!" Keep in mind he's still standing and just, overall, being confrontational and overtly unprofessional. My other friend responded to the man by saying that our friend was just trying to be helpful. To that, the man still responded with complete hostility. My friend backed away from the door, we all got up from our table, threw away our food, and attempted to leave through the front door. One of the Whataburger employees politely asked us to take the back door instead. Now at this point, there were customers waiting at both locked entrances. But we left. This entire interaction was not only unnecessary, it was unprofessional and not handled with care AT ALL. As armed security, you are supposed to be a trusted professional who looks out for the safety of individuals within your establishment. You are not to escalate situations, you are supposed to de-escalate. This security guard INITIATED the confrontation. It is a privilege to be a security guard carrying a firearm. You do not use the fact that you have one to attempt to scare the people you are supposed to be protecting. Way to lose public trust. Yes, we understand that if the store is closed, it is your job to ensure that customers are not entering the establishment. However, this whole situation was completely mishandled, and there were so many ways the situation could have been handled appropriately: 1) Let dine-in customers know that the store is closed when it closes and not to let people in. 2) If someone happens to not be aware and gets up with the intention of opening the door for someone, STOP THEM during the act, inform them that the store is closed, and ask them not to open the door. 3) Be polite to those who pose no actual threat. He was rude when taking my order when I wasn't loud enough he yelled instead of asking me to speak up. When I got to the window he just stared at me no hello or anything which startled me actually. He then waited for my payment which i was struggling with because my wallets zipper was stuck and instead of being patient he slammed the window shut and stared at me until I got the cash out from my walet. Geez guys. Across the nation fast food gets the most hate on Yelp. You ever heard the saying you get what you pay for? No it doesn't taste that good. No they may get your order wrong, in which case you go back and ask for it to be corrected. It's not overpriced or anything. Totally normal place but on the level of In N Out in California for me, locals love it but I think it's kinda nasty. It is five bucks though so like I said. Firstly, I don't usually eat fast food, but I hadn't eaten much, and for months I had been craving fries, so I was willing to sacrifice my health for a craving of fries & ketchup. As I pulled in the drive thru, I noticed all staff on board. Staff members were working together to ensure quick movement of the drive thru line. When I reached the speaker to place my order, the employee kindly greeted me and took my order. Once we arrived at pickup window, i was greeted by 2 team members. It took no more than 2 minutes to receive my fries. The fries were perfectly seasoned; the temperature was hot so that you could tell the fries were straight off the grill, and the ketchup had the perfect amount of vinegar. I happened to have a desire to eat beef, after got turned down at Target (ran out of hotdogs). I saw this orange roof with Whataburger sign sat in front of Northwest Crossing mall. The restaurant is fairly standard. I have been here before the Highway 290 construction. Yeah. It was many years ago. I still don't remember why I wanted beef after seeing the prices. I could had gone to Jack in the Box or Burger King across Hollister. So, here I was with beef craving. I asked cashier if there was anything special. Her look was like asking the same question. That was embarrassing for me as a customer. Ok. Since the prices are high, let me start from the cheapest burger on the menu. So, I got a Whataburger Jr. I didn't think I would eat at the dining room because the workers were chatty in the kitchen. I guess 5 PM is shift changing time. When I got to my car opening the wrapper, I said to myself WHERE IS THE BEEF? Not judging on the beef patty size, but the bun looked like someone's bun sat on it. It was dry and cold, I suspect it was a leftover. Was this a punishment because I ordered the cheapest burger? Is the economy that bad and I'm so poor to afford a decent burger? I went to the Whataburger at 290 and Jones Road today. The food tastes great, the service is excellent and I'm sure this location is what the founders of Whataburger envisioned when they started the restaurant. The location is about 15 minutes from the Whataburger at the 610 north loop. As mentioned in a past review of the 610 north location, it is a magical place! I went there with my son after game 5 of the 2017 World Series and it was still going crazy at 2am. Magical! Best night in Houston sports history! Let's go Astros! So the 290 location is the polar opposite of the 610 location. It's amazing that they are even the same fast food chain. The 610 location is like Adolf Hitler and the 290 location is like Jose Hilter, Adolf's philanthropic compassionate brother. Adolph is sitting over at the 610 north loop, probably rounding up the rodents and not flushing the toilet (after a deuce) and Jose is making sure every aspect of your dining experience is enjoyable on 290. Adolph is out rounding up people in the drive through and dragging them off to the chick fil a next door and Jose is bringing you both regular AND spicy catchup...with a smile. (I could have been in that drive through line on the night of the best game is World Series history!) Adolph, you are the worst person ever. Not even Jose, who is the most caring soul in the world (which is on display daily with his excellent customer service), loves you. Hip hip Jose! I can't associate the 290 Whataburger with the greatest day in our national pastime, I can't associate the 610 Whataburger with Germany's worst atrocities. What I can do, however, is count on a warm cheeseburger with piping hot fries and Dr Pepper that doesn't taste like antifreeze from Jose and his coworkers every time I visit the 290 Whataburger. This Whataburger stole my card info on Saturday 6/17/23 around 1:30pm. The guy at the drive through did something weird with my card. I asked about it, and he said it was just him charging my card. I thought it was weird, but it's also Whataburger and I felt like I could trust them. Later that night, almost $1,200 was stolen from my account and charged to a fanatics gambling account. It's the only place I went that day, so it was absolutely them. I've tried to call this store multiple times, and it rings and then says there's no one there to answer and hangs up on you. The Californian in me goes, "Ah this must be Texan In-n-Out" and while it isn't, I think I've become a fan of Whataburger too. First off, it's fast food so temper expectations. Once you do that however, I think you start to get the charm of Whataburger. Folks here were very friendly and patient when it became clear we were out-of-towners examining the menu. Table service after you order is just such a nice touch too especially for fast food. You are presented with a tray of condiments when they bring you your order. Nice touch. I like the iconography of the packaging. A little sense of whimsy to it. Turns out the food within the packaging is pretty decent too. These are pretty large burgers and sandwiches here. The buns in particular are really soft. The burger patties are relatively moist and flavorful. I personally liked the Whatachickn sandwich quite a lot too based on the few bites I stole. Fries are pretty decent. Yes I've seen these all over town, and probably the state, but this location gave me my first Whataburger experience and I hope to be back. read more

People are saying it is crap which is OK because they have their own opinions but the service was just so fast, almost like 30 seconds when we get our food. And guess what? It was HOT. Was helping a friend move down the street from this location after a 30 minute drive and the service was unbelievably horrible. The area in general has terrible employees working at these fast food restaurants. Cashier Jessica was not the nicest encounter as for the window after whom tossed our food after waiting in line for an hour. My husband and I got there at 10:40 pm, we had to wait 25 minutes to order, we waited for 40 MINUTES to get to the window to pay; once we paid the manager still asked us what drinks did we order, then asked us to pull over to wait for our order (note that we only ordered 2 burgers and fries) we waited for another 30 minutes and once we received the food, the fries were cold. We were thankful this Whataburger was open on Thanksgiving, as nothing else around was. Even though we came at midnight they dished out great service and of course, more than affordable prices and the restaurant was clean. Meanwhile, there's no way I could eat here often. The food is sub par. I ordered a salad and the salad was great, as was the dressing. Unfortunately, the chicken that came with it tasted like cardboard or as if it had been sitting in the microwave for too long. The chicken tenders are fair and the burgers are better than McDonalds, but that's not saying much. If it's late at night and nothing else is open, this is you're spot. The food came out pretty fast and was great. The bacon and cheese burger was very good. Though I would recommend getting a double or something else since the patty is thin. Nothing more to say.
