I was pretty excited to try Whataburger given all the hype surrounding the chain and the fact that it's still relatively new to North Carolina. After doing some research, I found that the Patty Melt is considered one of their signature items, so I ordered one with onion rings, spicy ketchup, and a drink. Starting with the positives: the onion rings were quite good. They had that slightly sweet, cornmeal-style breading that I really enjoy, and the quality itself was solid. They did seem to skimp a bit on what was supposed to be a large order, but I'd still order them again. The spicy ketchup was just okay. It wasn't bad, but I don't think it offers much over regular Heinz ketchup or than a slight kick. The Patty Melt, unfortunately, was disappointing. The burger itself was a good size, and there was a generous amount of cheese and onions. However, the Texas toast was extremely soft and had an artificial buttery flavor that reminded me more of margarine than grilled bread. When I think of a great patty melt, I expect bread that's nicely toasted on a flat top with some texture and crispness, not something that feels soggy and mushy. The onions also left a lot to be desired. They tasted like typical fast-food grilled onions rather than properly caramelized onions. Even places like Five Guys do a better job in this department, using onions that taste fresher, sweeter, and more thoroughly cooked. I was also given the creamy pepper sauce that comes with the Patty Melt. It was fine--neither particularly good nor bad--but I wouldn't miss it if it wasn't included next time. Overall, Whataburger is pretty mid. I can see why some people enjoy it, but for me there are better regional fast-food options already available, such as Culver's, and others I'd love to see make their way here, like Portillo's. I'd be willing to give Whataburger another try if I'm nearby, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to visit. read more

First time trying whataburger- not bad at all! I'm not a fast food person (especially burger joints) but I really wanted to try it since I've seen so much hype about the grand opening. It was VERY busy on a friday night but we were able to snag a table inside. The staff are all very nice and accommodating, they have a server who will offer you condiments at your table which is very nice. We waited longer than most fast food places (it was slammed packed so understandable) I'd say around 15 minutes. We both got the bacon cheeseburger, it was pretty good. Veryyy filling and I enjoyed the beef patty, my only negative remark is it's too much bun for the size of the patty. The onion rings are great, no complaints I loved them. The fries were a tad cold, they didn't stand out as being great. They're like McDonald's fries, but I'd argue a step below. Despite this, whataburger is a great option if you want the fast food experience. I would definitely come back to try a shake and another burger on the menu. Went here for lunch and didn't really like it. No fault of the restaurant!! The burger was large and when leaving I noticed a sign that I could have ordered a smaller sandwich. The fries were hot and fresh so was the burger. You definitely get your money's worth. Workers great and they come deliver food and condiments to your table. Excited to try this new burger place. They offer burgers and chicken. Only open for a couple of weeks there is always a line at the drive thru so I went inside. Order was promp taken. Lots of staff so I was surprised it took 10 minutes to have my order ready. I like they have lemon juice for tea and that the fries were unsalted. The burger was full of yellow mustard. So if you do not like a lot of mustard be aware. The burger was cold and the taste was average.Do not think I will be back anytime soon. read more

Raleigh NC got its 1st Whataburger Restaurant.....nice! When i got there it was really busy. The drive thru and the inside. The decor on the inside was cute. They had nice pictures on the wall and cute wall art. It didn't take too long for my order considering the amount of people already waiting for their orders. They even had someone walking around offering different condiments to the patrons.....nice touch Whataburger! Now on to the food. I got a bacon cheeseburger combo. The fries were really good..nice and hot. The burger was huge and very tasty. It came with crispy bacon and fresh lettuce and tomatoes. I will definitely return to try out other options. read more

This Whataburger is brand new so I'm sure they're still working out the kinks, but both times I've been have been pretty decent experiences. My mom and I came to try it out less than a week after the opening. We probably waited around 30 mins in line (but again, less than a week). The guy that took our order was very efficient and friendly. We both really enjoyed our burgers, they seemed fresher than say a McDonald's burger. Their fries are reminiscent of Mc D's fries, and those are my favorite type of fast food fries so I was pleased. I also really like their spicy ketchup...I made sure to get an extra packet so I can have some back at home lol. On my next visit, I had a coupon for a free burger. It's Sunday at 8:21 PM. It's extremely crowded and the parking is horrible but I guess that's a good sign for a fast food restaurant lol unfortunately service was slow, but you can't blame anyone because it was just so crowded. Be inside doesn't look bad and the tables are clean. We ordered three jalapeño and cheese Whataburger's one spicy chicken sandwich and one more onion ring. The total came to $32.85. Waited outside for 10mins before going in to order food. Ordering line is short but no table to sit. Might be better during off peak hours. The patty melt is the best and the onion rings are better than other fast food chains. The hamburger is ok, how a burger should be. I like the spicy ketchup with the fries. The customer service is horrible. I waited in the drive-through for an order that I was supposed to pick up at 5:50 on August 2, 2026 when I finally got to the window it was 615. They could not find my order even though I showed them the receipt of the order from the app the gentleman a Spanish guy with glasses was extremely rude condescending. It was initially a free promotion for downloading the app so I had to wait for them to make the chicken sandwich. They had to pull me for them to make the chicken sandwich so they could assist their other cut coming from Durham North Carolina all the way to 6 Forks Rd. in Raleigh, North Carolina. I will not be making a trip. I had the patty melt, fries, and banana pudding shake. The meat was flavorless and unseasoned. The fries were just okay - skinny and a bit soggy. The best thing I had was the shake. The service was good for the place being new. The staff was friendly, but it honestly wasn't worth the 30 minutes I sat waiting in the drive thru line. Very familiar with the real Whataburgers as I grew up eating them. First thing I noticed as I walked inside, lots of flies around the cash registers. Located right by Crabtree creek, which is where Cary releases 12 million gallons a day of effluent. So be aware, I am sure they treat it perfectly before releasing it. Next, we have the wait. They have not figured out the problem with hiring folks in this area. Gentrification has a problem--you can't put new wine in old wineskins. You hire just anyone that applies here you end up with non functioning restaurants, ask Applebees that was right here before- they gave up and torn down the building. Ask Taco Bell they had a new building right behind yours, they too just hired local folks off the street, then started hiring their friends--went broke, tore down the building, now it's a new Chickfila. So find someone better to do your hiring, asap. They only had one register open, out of two. The poor girl looked like her head was gonna explode if she had to understand our order. She bungled one burger as she kept trying to add/subtract the parts of a standard whataburger. They cannot just take the four condiments you ask for and push those buttons--they are trying to figure it out. I asked for mine extra well done. What I got was barely done--which is typical when places are trying to rush, what do they do? barely cook the meat. First off the food at a whataburger is some of the greatest stuff that my taste buds have ever dreamed of touching. This is the most bang for your buck I've seen since Costco, and this is ten times better. Also, the black lady that works at the counter is the nicest worker I have ever met, she makes jokes every second. Decided to try this place out. It was about 9:45 Sunday evening. Didn't think it would be too busy. They were busy! In fact no parking spaces. So decided to do drive in even though the line was extremely long. It moved fairly quick I must say. I went ahead and placed the order for online pick up hoping to make things easier. When I did get to the speaker I had to repeat I had a online pick up 3 times and they finally said just pull up which I thought ok ~ great ~ when I got to the window they asked for payment I said I already paid and repeated this is an online pickup and gave my name again. She made my drink and gave it to me ~ which I asked for heavy ice and didn't receive. Then I got my bag. I started to eat my fries on the way home. I was not at all impressed. The bag felt hot but the fries were lukewarm warm at best. And they are the shoe string fries so it's kinda hard to keep warm. They are either hot or not. As busy as they are there is no reason they aren't able to do hot fries. Just slow down maybe another minute in the fryer make sure they are done completely and have happy customers. I would rather wait another 2 minutes and have excellent fries than to be given mediocre ones. When I got home I went to eat my burger. First impression. It was big! Then I got to second bite and I tasted bacon?! I didn't order bacon. So I got the wrong burger. If I'm on that side of town will I try this place again. I am leaning more towards no. read more

This is NOT the Whataburger I remember in Texas. It's more like a rebranded McDonald's selling two day old reheated quarter pounders and reheated fries than the Whataburgers in El Paso and Odessa that became my favorite fast food stops. The mustard overpowers all other flavors, and I had the bacon cheeseburger! 2. The fries were average at best. Thin like McDonald's but not as crispy. 3. The burger had lots of lettuce chunks that hid the burger taste. I felt like I was eating a mustard lettuce sandwich. 4. I waited 33 MINUTES for my food once I ordered! The place was crowded and very noisy. Lots of people standing around waiting for a table. 5. I had to maneuver through a maze of people to get a drink refill and then back again to get napkins because they don't put them on your tray when they serve your food. I don't see myself going back for another try. Mediocre burger, average fries, 33 minute wait, cramped store layout. With all the choices available for a burger, I would rank Whataburger near the bottom for taste, efficiency, and overall experience. The food is better during the day than at night. At night there is only ONE line (which is so dumb) and they take forever to get your order and food. Then when you get the food it's WRONG. I literally have to check behind them every single time bc I know my order is going to be wrong. Hire better workers for the late night shift because it's not giving Texas. Texas whataburgers late night staff knows what they are doing. I wouldn't recommend this location. They need to seriously look into the night shift because it's ridiculous.
