Garden burger with Swiss, sprouts, cucumber, tomato, onion, pepper mayo on a brioche bun. Served with slaw and fruit.

Wonderful food, service, and ambience. We stumbled across this place on a little scenic drive on our 50th anniversary. How delightful. Our first ever taste of rambutan. Looks funny but delicious. They even gave us a free bowl of rambutan as an anniversary gift.

My wife and I dropped in here after seeing all of the Yelp reviews about the place and decided to see if it lived up to the hype. We were in the area after exploring the nearby botanical gardens and were hungry for lunch. So we grabbed a table on the patio and ordered up a Farmers Favorite Smoothie and an Ono Mamas Fish Wrap. We were not the least bit disappointed! While the smoothie was not quite as sweet as I would have liked, there's no question it was of high quality, and the wrap was to die for--super delicious and a good size. Yes, it's a bit pricey, but you most likely will be very happy with the quality of your meal or snack. Who cares if it's "touristy"? Stop in and see if you enjoy it as much as we did. :)

Is there anything better than stumbling on a gem when least expected? We were exploring around Hilo and the general area one day and were crusing the four mile scenic drive when we stumbled on What's Shakin. We had already eaten lunch earlier but we were warm and ready for a nice beverage. I chose to get the Pina Colada Smoothie (Pineapple Sorbet, frozen farm grown Banana, Coconut cream, blended with Pineapple Juice) and my husband got their fresh squeezed lemonade that was sweetened with a local lavender honey. Service was great, one of the best lemonades we've ever had, and the smoothie was so refreshing - it all just hit the spot and was a perfect pit stop in our day.

We we were driving to Akaka Falls and stopped at this establishment. DO NOT MISS THIS ONE!!!! We got the Ono Mama's Fish Wrap. This is a flavor sensation! The whole thing is so yummy. I almost want another one. The owner is awesome and super friendly. Run, don't walk to get some grindz at What's Shakin'!!!!

This place is a little JEM, along the way. Stop get a smoothie or quick bite. You won't be disappointed. Alo

Best fruit smoothies I ever tasted - real fruit and no added sugar! Hardest working people - basically, 2 people working here: taking orders; preparing food and drinks; and cleaning the tables. We were there around 2-3PM. There was a line. Be patient with the order because we are on vacation. Beautiful area - it is a green and lush farm/garden surrounding.

Great avocado wrap, many fresh veggies. Nice seating area outside for a smoothie/food shack.

I visited What's Shakin' twice during my stay on the Big Island and had a pleasant experience both times. The first time around, I ordered the Groovy Guava, which I enjoyed, but not enough to order again. I'm not much of a smoothie person, I've come to learn, and would much rather have my smoothie in "açaí bowl" form. I had my eyes on the fish wrap, but only had a small wad of cash on me, which wasn't enough to cover the cost of both a smoothie and food item. My second visit, I came prepared and ordered the fish wrap and the ube shake. What a homerun of a meal-choice I made! Let's start with the ube shake; this was absolutely delicious! A great balance of ube flavor along with the coconut cream. bananas, and apple juice. I slurped up every morsel I could! Now onto the fish wrap. While the price point was a bit hefty (just over $13), I absolutely LOVED it. Wow, was the wrap astronomically delectable! From the freshness and crunch of the fish, to the fresh vegetables drizzled with a delicious sauce, this fish wrap left me wanting three more. I paired the fish wrap with many-a-drizzle of the hot sell they sell up at the front counter and it took the flavor to the next level! It came with a side of cabbage slaw and fresh cut fruits which were also tasty, fresh, and hit the spot. Although a bit pricey, I enjoyed every bite and slurp that I had. I highly recommend this spot to any and all who are in the area and wanting to try the best fish wrap in town. I will definitely be returning the next time I'm on the island just to experience the fish wrap all over again.

Great place to stop for a smoothie and a quick bite to eat! Smoothies were delicious, but I wish the menu wasn't so limited. My husband had the fish wrap and enjoyed it!

10/10 fresh shakes and smoothies. Beautiful location just outside of Hilo. Beautiful drive out to it too. Super friendly staff. Highly recommend.

My hubs and I originally came here 16 years ago when we were first married and our first trip to this island! We immediately remembered this place when driving by abs had to stop. I remember getting the banana bread the last time we were here. So of course we had to stop and eat! We ordered a beef hot dog and 2 of the kickin chicken wraps and a lemonade. There was a line to order but it moved quick. When it was our turn to order, the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. When I ordered the lemonade she's said I got lucky because it was the last one she had for the day! SCORE!! It was yummy too.....sweetened with honey rather than sugar. The hot dog was big and so good. Hubs and I shared that and the chicken wrap so we could get the best of both. The wrap was my favorite! Served hot hot and so fresh and full of flavor! Love the salsa and fresh made beans. The beans really add to the overall flavor because my daughter got a wrap too but with no beans. Hers was good but ours was better because of the beans. They also have fresh coconuts available for purchase. How cool! They'll crack them for you to enjoy fresh coconut water directly from the coconut! If in the area help support local and stop in for some yummy goodies.

We visited this place on a weekday afternoon on the way back to Hilo and after seeing the Akaka Waterfalls. There is only outdoor seating available. The view is gorgeous from here as it is situated right next to their farm, where most of the ingredients are sourced from. There was relatively little wait We ordered the Avocado Wrap and Groovy Guava Smoothie. The Groovy Guava smoothie was delicious and creamy. The Avocado Wrap was fresh and tasty and super creamy as well due to the sauce and avocado. Overall, it was delicious and fresh. Price-wise, it was pretty reasonable. Definitely recommend this place and the food, as it's super fresh and a great place to pick up something quick to fill that hunger craving.

The food was good, but for the…read moreprice, the entire experience - not even the old, nonfunctional classic car out front - was worth it. BUT, the Jackie Rey's in Hilo has now become our go-to fine restaurant in Hilo town. The building is classic. An old town Hilo bank, with the vault intact. High ceilings, comfortable tables and decore and an artistic antique wooden bar that would be a gem in the crown of any European city. The management and personnel are the most wonderful people. Always happy to accommodate you in the best way they can. After one kamaaina visit the servers will know your name. They'll make you feel welcome and that you are a part of their experience too, something that is nearly impossible to find in other town dining. They have rewards programs for kamaaina which includes a point system that gives you significant savings on your next visit. The food is first rate, from the pupus to the main dishes to the desserts. Sauced and presented in five star fashion, without feeling pretenious. We will be their peskiest and most loyal customer as long as we are in the area. Kudos to Jackie Rey's Hilo.

If you dine here and are not a big person don't get a booth table as it's the most uncomfortable seating I've ever experienced. The seat is way too far from the table and I needed to lean forward and sit on the edge of the seat. I would recommend getting a table its chair so you be able to adjust yourself to the distance from the table. Server was just Ok and with them placing a water decanter on the table for refill they didn't come around as often. The decanter water has no ice so whatever ice you have in your cup to cool the water. Last time eating at this establishment was better and my only complaint was the window seats next to the picture window and the flys that was buzzing there. Only thing is again there were two big flies buzzing the windows and I had to waved them away. The doors are always shut and only when customers walk in could the flys get in. Staff should walk around before opening and get rid of them. We entered about 5:10 PM so it was opened for just 10 minutes and shouldn't have flys. Air conditioning was on but the temperature was a bit warm and a cooler temperature of maybe 10 degrees be perfect. I had the mochico Ono and it was just ok tasting but on the plate presentation was nice. My wife had the pork chops and she really liked it but said was just a little over cooked. I did try a small sample and to me it was just ok also. ambiance in the restaurant is nice and most of the staff were very attentive. The server we had wasn't and I needed to Get his attention to get my bill even though he had passed multiple times and didn't or should have noticed we were done dining. Probably not be dining again at this establishment again and do know of better dining spots in Hilo.

This location has been serving generations of local families like mine for decades. Formerly Queen's Court Restaurant at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel, a local gem reinvented five years ago. To WSW Steakhouse. The hotel and restaurant are now officially part of the Trademark Collection by Wyndham, still owned and managed by Castle Resorts & Hotels Hawai'i. A fresh new dining concept replacing WSW will happen soon, before winter 2026. Complete with interior renovations, a refreshed menu, new wraparound bar and name. Here's an authentic snapshot, capturing my dining experiences at WSW before this transformation happens. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Tired of waiting for a breakfast table, want the convenience of making a reservation? Don't like your family placed on separate tables? Do you seek comfort and air conditioning in the morning? A venue that offers an upscale breakfast ambiance with ocean views? This is the place. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ À la carte breakfast at WSW is underrated and deserves promoting. The locals, I feel, need to know about this place. Served Mon-Fri with reservations available via the OpenTable app. Recently, I did a two-night stay at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel. I decided to dine at WSW for all meals and it introduced me to their breakfast and dinner à la carte experiences. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Savory comfort, genuine hospitality, breathtaking morning views. Hungry? "I'm Starving", the portions and price point sure surprised me. 3 eggs, 2 breakfast meats, choice of starch and a short stack had me content beyond reason. These pancakes aren't premade for quick serving or, so large in size the quality of taste and texture diminishes. They're fluffy, sweet, pillowy with an airy interior, caramelized exterior. Enjoy an order of their hearty + comforting Housemade Corned Beef Hash, where each component melds perfectly together. The eggs are opulent in color and served with your choice of starch. This is my favorite. Their Belgium Waffle is light and delicate, deep subtly butteriness and balanced sweetness. Garnished with blueberries and whipped butter. Simple yet prepared with care. On Saturdays and Sundays, a $25 breakfast buffet with an omelet station is offered. For a $35 upcharge after 8am enjoy steamed snow crab, carved Prime Rib and bottomless mimosas. A champagne brunch experience I've done many times. As WSW turns into a new dining concept, I hope breakfast remains unchanged. Food, service, ambiance, value, convenience. I currently rate it as the best breakfast spot in East Hawai'i. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Dinner. "Sizzling 16oz Ribeye", juicy and tender. Intense sizzle, the flavors were so on-point, the side sauce I ordered wasn't necessary. The quick sear rendered a perfect medium and the caramelized onions were so delicious, I ate them as a no-onion person. Served with garlic mashed potatoes, request a a baked potato upgrade. The Misoyaki Butterfish, moist with a caramelized glaze and rich umami flavor. I would recommend checking the texture of your rice though. Tinono appetizer, amazing flavor and texture profile. A must along with the creamy Lobster Mac 'n Cheese. This is the only restaurant on the East Side that offers a salad bar with dinner. For $10 with any entrée, four offerings plus two outstanding soup selections. The most hearty and delicious Clam Chowder I've had in a while, it deserves a spot on their new menu. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Weekend dinner, holiday and brunch buffets, this is what this location is known for since I was a kid. Even though the lavish offerings and prices have changed over time, the same charm of dining here still remains. I usually only come for two items, the rest is secondary. Snow Crab and Prime Rib. If both are prepared well, I'm satisfied. But there's times the prime rib is inconsistent in-flavor and texture. Yet, I always leave satisfied since everything else usually balances things out. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ I feel a sense of belonging, the guest service at WSW makes me feel valued. From entry at the host stand, to the front team, to the managers. I don't feel like I'm just another transaction, but appreciated as a local resident and return customer. Live action stations (omelet/carving), the kitchen team has moments where their level of service isn't consistent with those in the front. It should add to the overall dining experience, be a part of the "show". There's a select few, seniors of the front team who create a meaningful connection each time. My dining experience becomes personalized with genuine empathy and emotional awareness. Thank you. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Let's celebrate their evolution, a brand refresh and dining concept change. I'm excited with anticipation and looking forward to supporting your new vision. Thank you for continually elevating the dining experience and welcoming myself + the community back for decades. As a new chapter unfolds, "Congratulations".
