They may not have all the cruiser-cool accessories you're looking for (what? no beer can holders???), but if you're a serious cyclist (I'm SO not) looking for serious stuff, you seriously need to check out Wheat Ridge Cyclery. Of the two things I was looking for I only found one (a basket), but Charlie went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure the item I did find was exactly what I needed. My cruiser has some tricky handlebars, so most baskets won't fit my needs. Charlie actually busted out the tool kit to install that basket for me right there at the cash register, so I wouldn't have to pedal it home slung over my shoulder all awkward and shizz only to find out it wouldn't work. And all that for no additional charge! Big ups for big customer service. read more

This recently-expanded bike store is amazing. I'm no hardcore cyclist- actually, I only break out the bike to run my Border Collie mixes for a few minutes so they'll be calm enough to leave alone while I'm at work. But I can see from one glance inside Wheat Ridge Cyclery that, no matter your level as a bicyclist, you'll find what you need here. The shop is stocked wall-to-wall with apparel, tires, bikes, and everything else you could possibly need to pimp your bike. It does seem like the store is more geared to the competitor than casual cyclists- the apparel alone will tell you that, along with the leg muscles on the ladies and gents working the store. However, they're just as happy to help me find new tires to replace my flats as to help a Lance Armstrong wannabe take seconds of their time. I've been wanting to purchase a new bike for a few years and when gas prices started to skyrocket over the last few months, I knew it was finally time to put my money where my intentions were. I came to WRC on the recommendation of Julio T. When it comes to a bike shop, I can't think of a better endorsement! As Lisa H and I walked in, we were impressed with the selection of bicycles as well as all of the other necessities that comes with cycling: helmets, locks, apparel, books, etc. I'm pretty clueless when it comes to bicycles these days, so I meandered about for a few minutes, ooo-ing and aah-ing at all of the pretty bikes that were, without question, out of my price range. The day we stopped in, WRC was pretty busy. So it took several minutes before I was able to snag the attention of an associate. I explained what I needed in a bike (ability to commute a few miles, but also take off-road) and my price range. We narrowed my need down to a simple mountain bike. Adam, the WRC staff member who was helping me, pointed out a bike in my price range and explained how it would suit my needs. I took said bike out for a test ride and loved it! After deciding I would be taking this bike home, Adam helped me pick out a helmet and a U lock. WRC is certainly farther away than I would like, but it came with great reviews and recommendations. I'm pleased with my purchases and certainly would recommend a visit if you're currently shopping for a bike. read more

I hate those people who are always like.."I remember when Wheat Ridge Cyclery was just a tiny little shop and now it's huge...and totally impersonal and waaay lame." Because while I am one of those people who remembers when Wheat Ridge Cyclery was a tiny shop, I am one who appreciates and congratulates the store's success over the years. They still have one of the best stores around. I have purchased two bikes from them and each time the clerks really worked with me to make sure I got the right bike for me at the right price. And since Wheat Ridge actually has bikes that are less than a grand (and even less than $500), I was able to do that easily. Best of all, Wheat Ridge Cyclery gives you a year of maintenance on your new bike purchase. Even since my year is up, I go to Wheat Ridge for maintenance because they are very quick and affordable compared to many other bike shops. They have multiple maintenance personnel on board and an extensive shop so often you can often get your bike fixed in just an hour or so. And I've found the shop prices to be much less than other stores. So good job Wheat Ridge Cyclery! You've made the transition from little guy to bicycle powerhouse without sacrificing the great customer service and neighborhood feel that you used to have. read more

I just love Wheat Ridge Cyclery. Over the past two years, I've gone from complete road biking neophyte to decently knowledgeable, and Wheat Ridge has been part of teaching me along the way. From my first visit, they have always been welcoming and respectful, no matter how stupid my questions have been. On a few occasions, I've had to wait for assistance (weekends in summer are pretty busy), but never for an obnoxiously long time, and I've always gotten the help I need. The free women's maintenance clinics are great (I can change a flat and keep my bike running smoothly!), my professional bike fit was well worth the cost, my minor tuning needs have been handled quickly, and one of the guys in the shop even helped me figure out how to fit my bike in a box I purchased to travel with it. I have confidence that they'll be able to help me with whatever I need. The only thing I wish they would change is to start taking AmEx cards, in addition to MC & Visa. :) Points for those big purchases would be really nice. read more

Elysa (if I have her name right) was amazing. The last time I was there I had a kid trying to sell me something but he was less than par. Elysa worked with me and my brother in law for over an hour, sizing bikes left and right. I have narrowed down what I want but am still edgy on pulling the trigger. Trying to talk myself into it. However, this experience was worth mentioning. I have gone in for a third time and have had all good experiences. However the bike I am interested in is not one they keep on the floor. However, to order it you have to buy it. I am looking around all of Denver to see if someone has it in stock which forces me to go to competitors. However, this won't dissuade me from shopping here in general but I would hate to take $1300 to a competitor when they have employees like Elysa. read more

WRC doesn't disappoint. After having my bike stolen, i went there to get another, after my great experience the first time. Again, fantastic service and great pricing. A couple days ago i clipped a car door on my way to work. I dropped into the store for an adjustment to my drivetrain, and in less than 20 minutes i was riding again. But wait! That's not all! They cleaned up my drivetrain and aired up my tires while they were at it. That's the way these guys roll: always doing you one better. Top-notch bike store and staff! read more

Saved from myself by Adam and Wheat Ridge Cyclery... Years ago I bought a Specialized Roubaix Expert Compact from Wheat Ridge. This bike took me to an entirely new level of cycling. It do not, however take me to the top of the financial heap. Recently, after cracking the frame, destroying the rear wheel and derailleur on the Roubaix I had the opportunity to return to Wheat Ridge Cyclery for a new bike. After working with Adam and getting prices, I attempted to be "Oh so smart, and to order a bike oniline from Kurnia Cycles in Indonesia; at half the price no less. All I can say is thank goodness for Paypal and paying with plastic and a guarantee. I learned a valuable lesson, that even when checking out a company thoroughly, talking to at length and attempting to verify as much as possible, one can still be ripped off. I got my money back with little issue. (interestingly, I received an apology note from the money recipient that, "They were taking money from PayPal and not me and that I would get my money back." Interesting indeed... Subsequently, I ran as fast as possible back to Wheat Ridge Cyclery and Adam. After apologizing myself profusely and begging for forgiveness, Adam set me up with the bike of my dreams and aspirations. As Trek did not make the exact bike I was desiring--this even though they were demo'ing it, Adam and the nice folks at Wheat Ridge Cyclery made it happen to my satisfaction. With the bike assembled and ready, Adam took over the fitting and adjusting. While I am pretty much an average/average/average off-the-rack fit, there were some tweaks and adjustments. Adam also took the time to explain the differences between shoes, pedals, helmets and computers. I left the store in an amazingly fit Trek Domane 6.2 with hydraulic disc brakes and Di2 electric shifters, lighter in wallet a bit but fitting and outfitted for safety and comfort. I still need to setup an appointment with Phil Who also works at Wheat Ridge for custom orthotics foot-beds for cycling and skiing to be reviewed later. But happy am I. Wheat Ridge Cyclery is a true testament of what a good bike shop should look and feel like. The staff at WR is super friendly, knowledgable and professional. Their service department is phenomenal! The mechanics are incredibly knowledgable and take the time to explain things in detail even if there's a long line of customers. I've never seen a mechanic act in a pretentious manner like I've noticed in some shops..... To date, there has never been a question they haven't been able to answer. The service department has gone to bat for me multiple times on warranty claims and they always make every attempt to get my bike back to me as soon as possible. When they perform work on your bike you'll notice that every setting (suspension, seat height, cock pit positions, etc.) has been noted so your bike is returned ready to ride. They also note the mechanic that worked on your rig, the work performed and even provide worn parts for your examination. you can also rest easy knowing that they have done a test ride to make sure things are working properly. It's all in the details! I can't recommend these guys enough..... A special thanks goes out to Andy, Bo, Adam and Doug for the awesome service you guys provide to the cycling community. read more

Told my son they would have his bike(which he bought from them) repaired in 3 weeks. The day before the stated pick up date he called and asked if it was ready. They said if he was given a pick up date then he should come and get it. I don't think the person even checked. He went in and they had not repaired it!!! They had the bike for 3 weeks. No communication whats so ever about needing more time. They were not even apologetic. Told him to buy the parts he needed for the repair and do it himself. I will be encouraging him to look for a new shop. read more

I bought my road bike at WRC in 1998; a really nice LeMond bike that cost nearly $3,000, which for me was a REALLY BIG DEAL! I had never bought anything like that before; I was quitting smoking and had always wanted a nice road bike, so I bought it as a reward and incentive. I liked the idea of buying my bike at WRC too because I grew up rooting for Ron Keifel and the 7-11 team. When I got the bike the rear brake mechanism was wonky and the metal was shaved off like someone's tool had slipped when installing it and they didn't bother to fix it. So I had to bring the bike in right away to get that fixed, and when I did I surprisingly got some push back, with them questioning whether they had done it or I had done it. I was kind of shocked by the suggestion, but I thought it must be an isolated incident so I'll let it pass. So I get the bike back finally, and there is a tear in the seat where clearly the bike had been knocked over in the shop and it ripped the leather on the seat. I asked them about it and again they gave me attitude and suggested that "shit happens." I was stunned. So after arguing with them about it, they begrudgingly offered to put on a new seat for me. At that point though, I told them where to stick it and I promised myself I would never go back. Fast forward to this past spring, I was living near the shop and needed some repairs done. I thought it's been so long maybe it's worth trying them again. So I took it in for some work, and when I got it back and went out for a ride, it was clear that something was wrong. The chain kept slipping and at one point I was putting on a lot of torque trying to cross a busy road, and the chain slipped completely off the chain ring and I nearly fell down in front of a speeding car! I was furious. So I brought the bike back, and again they gave me lip and suggested it was no big deal, but since they were nice guys they'd take a look and see what they could do. They ultimately fixed the problem, but the attitude was unbelievable and frankly, there should not have been a problem to begin with. Finally the other day I brought it in to another shop to work on (Nice Bike on S. Broadway - great shop!). They actually commented on how bad of a job the last person who worked on the bike had done. They were careful about saying that as they assumed it was me that had done the work, but when I told them it was WRC, they laughed and said it didn't surprise them. In short, WRC doesn't care about keeping customers. All they care about is your money, and once you've bought a bike there, they could care less about any issues you may have with it. There is no friendliness and neighborliness at WRC like I like to see from my LBS. There is abundant arrogance and attitude though, so if you're into those things, be my guest. I'll stick to the guys who know what they're doing and that don't talk to me like I'm an idiot. read more

Wheatridge cyclery is a first class operation. They almost always have the parts and expert tips that I need. I found their mechanic Chad Hanley to be extremely helpful. I used his expertise as to what drive train to order that would fit my needs for climbing to convert a road bike that I bought. I didn't use Chad to do the work as I'm doing the work myself. Great big store, with a fairly good selection of bikes. They're geared more towards the serious cyclist, but are more concerned with making sure everyone gets great service and leaves with everything they need than just helping a racer, or getting you to buy the most expensive bike possible. I bought a few supplies for my bike, but while I was there my girlfriend went through a fitting, and test-rode several bikes to find a road bike for her. Now, I know I'm not supposed to comment on experiences that weren't mine at a store, but hopefully Yelp Mission Control will let this stand -- but I was majorly impressed by the service she got. The person that helped her was patient, educating, thorough, and provided customer care that was second to none. She was friendly and fun and her only concern for an hour was making sure my Ladyfriend ended up with the bike that would be right for her. They offer pro fittings for approximately $8 million dollars, which take a long time and ostensibly measure every part of your body to find the perfect bike that may as well be molded to you like a batman outfit...or something. But they're "basic fit" was top-notch, and good for most any rider. They've got a huge amount of accessories, a plethora of friendly and helpful staff, and they're without a doubt a one-stop shop for your biking needs. read more

Ok, I would have to say that if you need to buy a bike with confident other than REI, Wheat Ridge Cycle is THE PLACE. A friend recommended the place and I hestitate because it's such a far drive from Highlands Ranch, but I'm so glad I made the trip. Here are some of the great things: - The sales person are very knowledge about every product they carry and yes they are not pushy either. - They have a great demo program (ask them about it) and I used it for my triathlon. - Great selection from mid-range to high-end. What impress me the MOST is that I had an issue with the bike that I just purchased. Long story short, the sales manager handled it with the best customer services and now I'm 110% confidence in going back there again. read more

It's been said in a lot: You won't find the lowest price in town at Wheat Ridge Cyclery. However, what you will find is a ton of helpful, knowledgeable staff members eager to help you find exactly what you need and then help you get fitted. We came here to buy a helmet for our 19 month old. They have a pretty large selection of helmets for adults, but a smaller selection of helmets for toddlers/kids. However, 2 employees helped us find what we were looking for, and also made sure the helmet was fitted to our daughter before we left. They even gave us tips on how to make sure she is strapped in to the bike trailer properly for full safety. The store itself is huge, and bike selection is too. Since we now live in the area and will be doing many rides on the Clear Creek Trail, I can see myself becoming a regular here, and will definitely stop here first when I'm in the market for a new bike. Actually, I'll probably be bringing my bike in for a tune up soon! read more

Maybe things have changed... I bought a bike here way back when (2002) and just recently (5/6/2011) I went with a friend of mine on his bike quest... We went to WRC and I can tell that the bottom line is the top dollar here. In my experience (2002) I was pretty much shown a bike, no fitting, nothing special, just here's a bike buy it. And I did. What I got was a new bike, no fitting, no special feeling, but they got my $1000 and that's what mattered. Fast forward to (5/6/2011) my friend getting his new bike at TREADS. He dropped $1500 but that included 5 free full service maintenance visits, a free custom fitting (which took like an hour wow how nice of them), and a 20$ gift card since he joined their buyer program... Needless to say I feel completely jipped by WRC. I was livid when the guy at Treads was like, oh we do this for all bikes regardless of price. The free maintenance alone would cause me to buy from Treads rather than WRC ever again. I cannot believe how "give me your money and get out of here" WRC was from my experience in 2002 compared to what my friend got today at Treads. Thanks a lot WRC. Sure you got to the top with all your fancy expensive bikes, and you've expanded, and you're oh so great with the bike scene in Colorado, but the fact remains that any experience, at any time, should not have been as bad as mine. read more

I am not, by any stretch of the imagination, a serious cyclist. Which is why I was originally nervous about going to WRC for anything. I just needed a new helmet and bike computer so I figured it was worth a shot. The staff was super friendly and incredibly helpful, answering my questions and helping me decide which helmet was more fashionable (while reminding me that they all met federal standards and it was merely a matter of preference). Definitely a place for serious cyclists, but they'll take the time to help you if you're not serious. It is, however, incredibly intimidating to go in- just go for it! I tried to let this go, but I'm still PO'd. I came to WRC often because I like their brands and products and they were close to my office. I also prefer to spend a bit more if necessary to support locally. I needed a new rear shifter and cassette on my MTB at the beginning of this season and didn't have time to do it myself so I thought I'd give these guys my business. It took nearly 2 weeks and I had to call them because they lost my contact info. On my 3rd ride my freehub starts skipping. I pulled my wheel to find my freehub nut completely loose and my cassette floating back and forth (I never even removed my rear wheel sice the replacement). I called WRC and they said "Bring it right in!". I get there and we find the freehub pawls are chewed up and I need a hub rebuild. I didn't get "This might have been us" or "Maybe we should have checked that". No I got "With Labor that will be $159 and we can't get to it for a week". I would have been happy to pay for parts if they would have waived labor. Strike 1 on customer service!. I know "Stuff" happens and just resigned to get it done so I could ride ASAP. They actually finished a day early and called me this time. One test ride up a dirt road and my rear shifter is skipping. I found my rear axle hadn't been tightened and had turned almost all the way back out. Strike 2! Once is a mistake....twice is just sloppy and inexcusable. My wallet can't take a strike 3. You've lost my business. read more

10 years ago I spent some real money here and bought my wife a high end road bike. They treated her great. This summer I went in for some entry level mtn bikes and as soon as they found out I was looking to spend less than $1000 each the quality of service went to zero. They could have cared less about selling me the bikes. I had to order mine and when it came in, they could barely muster the time to set my seat at the correct height. This place is just flat-out fantastic. A few months ago, I decided I was fed up with the price of gas (and that I could stand a little extra exercise) and that I wanted to get myself a bike for commuting and for running errands. I shopped around at a number of different stores in my neighborhood, but ultimately ended up buying my bike here. The sales person was great. He listened to what I was looking for and found me exactly the right bikes that would fit my needs, even though they were at the low end of what the store sells. He took plenty of time to answer my questions, adjusted the bikes to fit me perfectly before letting me take it out for a test ride, and generally made me feel very comfortable even though I'm a real lightweight compared to the staff and the clientele. And the quality of the staff did not end there. The techs who do the maintenance and adjustments have all been very friendly and helpful and patient of a guy like me who doesn't know all that much about their area of expertise. I've never felt like anyone in the store was ever talking down to me in the least. On the contrary, they all seemed very passionate about riding and eager to share that passion with every customer that walks in. I did shop around a little bit and I did find one or two places where I could have bought a similar bike for maybe $20 or $30 less. But I came back here because of the absolutely stellar service and my total confidence in their abilities. Whenever I've needed something extra, like a lock or helmet or set of lights, I don't even bother with looking anywhere else. I don't mind paying $20 for socks at WRC, but I was treated as if I was not worthy of help. Hey guys, customers are not going to buy a $10,000 bike every time they come in but we are still customers. I've lived in CO since 2009. There are a ton of bike shops as you could imagine. Wheat Ridge is the best bike shop on the planet as far as I'm concerned. Wether it's a new purchase, repair, equipment, or bike fit, they are as good as it gets. There isn't another shop in the front range that has the variety and selection that they have. Bad attitudes go with their bad service. I've bought 2 top of the line bikes here in the past. I will never enter the store again. Waited outside in the sales line only to be subjected to a salesman with little knowledge but a lot of attitude then back outside to get in line again for service. Do they have good options? Sure. Are they so pretentious they charge $400 for a weekend rental? Yep. I rented last year and had a mediocre experience but it was last minute so I didn't have room to talk. I rode the bike for two days (Saturday and Sunday) but since I picked it up Friday afternoon (couldn't ride it by the time we reached camp) I was charged for their 3-4 day range. They reluctantly only charged me for the 2 day and weren't kind about it honestly. I felt like a thorn in their side, not a customer. Now, I was still willing to go back, but $400 for 3-4 days is silly when I plan to ride for 3. Every single other bike shop from Golden to Denver has a daily rate. I am willing to pay $100/day but to have a lump sum and day range? Get in touch with your customers and market, WRC. I went with a local Golden shop at $100/per 24 hour rate for a carbon demo! read more

The experience was awesome, being new to the bike world Alex answered all my questions and explained everything very well. I got to test ride the bike and got me fitted for what size frame I would need. I shopped around a while ago for a bike and finally settled on WRC because of their stellar customer service. Since buying it a year ago, I've been in several times for little adjustments (I ride around the city daily, pot holes and all) and their service dept is the best around. Fast, friendly and accurate. (Turin downtown is pretty good, too, BTW) I splurged for the professional "fit" at purchase and it was worth every penny. I bought a spendy Specialized Body Geometry saddle and that was again worth every dime because, well, those parts down yonder should just not be suffering so much! Some things are just justified, in my opinion. Even after epic rides (like the Denver Century) nothing hurts at the end of the day. Nothing. (Being "tired" is different.) Their prices may not be the cheapest, but they're RELIABLE and that holds a lot of value. I'm a big fan! read more

I recently took my 20 year old Trek to the shop for a crash estimate and repair. Due to the age of the bike the challenge was getting original parts. When I received my bike back I was very disappointed in the quality of the replacement shifters. I contacted the Service Manager, Doug, and he responded immediately to my email, validated my concern and told me when he would get back with me with an answer. He is a man of integrity. When he knew he was going to miss his commitment he emailed me to let me know he would contact me when he was out of his meeting. I was impressed with the follow up! The end result was he found a source that carried the original shifters and replaced them for no additional fee. I came away a happy camper, well a happy cyclist.
