Matcha Crêpe Cake (take-out): $7 per slice
    Harris L.

Wheatfield Bakery (小麥田) is a newly-opened Chinese bakery in the Homecrest area of Brooklyn, and is part of a trend of more "modern" bakeries opening in the area -- serving traditional Chinese baked goods like egg tarts and pineapple buns along with modern takes like Chocolate Tiramisu buns and Coffee with Walnut buns. We tried two things in our initial visit -- a matcha crêpe cake ($7) and the coffee with walnut bun ($1.85). The coffee with walnut bun was different -- salted in both the bun and the cream; while the matcha crêpe cake had more cream than crêpe, but a good matcha flavor nevertheless. The bakery's décor is modern and well-lit, and seating is clean and comfortable. Wheatfield seems to be getting ready to offer hot food; we'll be back to check it out and other baked goods, too.

Love this new bakery addition to the area! A Modern Chinese style bakery, it offers traditional buns I grew up eating as well as new varieties including strawberry cream filled croissant, purple yam and matcha bread. Everything we have tried so far has tasted super fresh, the bread soft and doughy, the pastries buttery. Managed to also grab a box of Portuguese egg tarts piping hot from the oven - family definitely approves of the flaky crusts. Their milk tea, coffee and honey lemon beverages are legit. I love that they also offer a bunch of tasty savory options ie. black pepper chicken roll, chicken pie, fried Japanese curry chicken ball, sandwiches, as well as delicious sweet baked goods and puddings; we are fans of the caterpillar cream bread, strawberry croissant and caramel pudding. Too easy to fill a bag full of different varieties to try, makes for an absolutely affordable quick breakfast/lunch/snack.

I came here to get a custom-made birthday cake and it was delicious. The cake was moist and not so sweet. Personally I thought there was too much cream but the decor was cute with the mixed fruits on top while inside were matcha with pieces of mango. For their custom-made cakes, it is best to order 2-3 days in advance otherwise you can always call them to make sure. They do sell drinks (tea/coffee/bubble tea) and other bakery goods however they are a bit pricey.

    Bright display case

Surprisingly good Matcha bun with mung (green) beans. New Asian bakery in this neighborhood, with clean interior and buns are all individually packed in display cases for easy pick-up. Cake displays are cute and well decorated. Although, the price seems a little higher than other bakeries around the area maybe the taste will make up for the price hike. Lots of clean table and seats for indoor sitting.

I think this bakery is a solid 3.5 stars but 4 stars because the bakery itself feels inviting, well- lit and spacious with what seems to be comfortable seating for those who are comfortable sitting. I've personally been in the bakery and honestly it's a nice shop. Most bakeries in the area have been around for a longer time and looks more dull so upon entering, it feels like you're walking into something more modern, like a tous except not really. When I went, I went mainly to check out what they have, the types of bread, sandwiches and whatever else was out. Presentation of their offerings is rather nice, everything is organized and not messy. I did notice their cakes and puddings and whatever else but didn't pay much attention to it. On separate occasions, my family members went in to buy things to try. My dads first experience here was that the workers were super slow. He ordered a cup of coffee that took more than 10 minutes to make. He also brought home sliced bread (fong bao) and I honestly think it was just okay. It was soft so it wasn't bad in that sense but the bread was sliced super thin and that for me made it less enjoyable. The outer layer of the fong bao was also not something I enjoyed- the texture of it was close to rubbery if that even makes sense! My sister went a different time- got various buns to try. I tried their ham and scallion buns and it was okay. What I would say was good are their egg tarts! Tart shell was flaky and thin- not overwhelmingly buttery. They also give a lot of egg tart filling which was nice and delicious. I was pleasantly surprised so I'd be back here for more egg tarts!! My MIL also got us some type of bread that's made in similar fashion as the fong bao but with some sort of milk flavored filling? That was pretty good as well. My husband and I finished that in a day and a half as there were only 6 slices total in the pack. The most recent time we got anything from this shop was this past weekend. My MIL ordered a crepe cake from them. I don't usually have high expectations of crepe cakes, so I was just curious to try it. The crepes itself were green tea flavor and the cream was just regular cream. Presentation is pretty good. Taste wise- it's definitely just 2.5 stars or 3? The crepes were thicker than what you are used to from lady m and the cream was just very overwhelming. Every bit feels tougher to eat because the taste just wasn't there. It's not horrible if you like the cream but I don't think I loved it. I'd give their fruit cakes a try but wouldn't get this again. Overall, pastries and buns are decent. Crepe cake, I'd skip. I'll be back for egg tarts and try other things since it's a rather nice shop to go in!

This review is for the packaging of egg tarts. This is the only bakery that packs two egg tarts into one bag, which clearly doesn't fit. Do you think the egg tarts will remain in good shape after a walk home? Unlikely

There cold dessert section have some good selection.

Best new bakery in the neighborhood. The selection is pretty good and the items are pretty well made (in term or texture and flavor) It got the asian's mom highest praise, " It isn't too sweet " Definitely worth a try and please do. I want to see this business do well so that I can have their bake good everyday. #supportlocalbusiness

8" Custom Birthday Cake of a Penguin design
    Shirley W.

I ordered an 8" custom birthday cake. The cake design came out better than I expected and reasonable price. This bakery has an in-house pastry chef (also owner) that can make fresh cakes as little as within 1 hour. If complicated, additional time is needed. I showed the Pastry chef the Penguin character I want. He propose the idea making it 3D. The cake was delicious and just too cute to be eaten.

The space is relatively small, with a line inside and outside and a few tables outside. The length of the line and wait time varies based on the time of day and if you go on a weekday vs weekend. Go early if you don't want them to sell out of anything or purposely go a little later if you want one of their lunch sandwiches on focaccia. I have had the tomato and garlic focaccia twice now and each time it has been exceptional. Minor critique, the slices of garlic could be a bit smaller. I also had the shakshuka focaccia which is divine and I would absolutely recommend both. I need to come back to try their sandwiches as well. I am not a sweets person, but everyone I know loves their pastries. Getting someone a gif tcard here makes for a great gift.

I'm usually more of a savory girlie but all the sweet items we tried were great, especially the rhubarb croissant and the earl grey morning bun. I really enjoyed the focaccia sandwiches (smoked salmon and pea/mint/feta were elite) and the artichoke green garlic slice. The flavor of the sesame stirato was excellent but the bread itself was a tad too chewy for the filling we got with it (tuna salad), so that style probably works better with the jambon beurre. Will definitely be on the rotation whenever I'm in the city -- would love to try some of their seasonal/limited edition items one day, though not sure if I have it in me to brave the lines that can form on the weekends, lol! We'll see :)

Radio Bakery... is perfection. I completely understand the line…read more I first ordered the heirloom tomato & feta sandwich, which was unbelievable. It is so clear that they use incredibly high-quality ingredients and carefully curate each component, which is exactly why everything comes together in such an elevated way. The tomatoes reminded me of the ones I grew in my garden during California summers as a teenager. Perfectly salted, layered over soft, not-too-tart feta. The focaccia was made with beautiful olive oil and, while a bit chewier than I usually prefer, gave the sandwich a satisfying bite. I had to close my eyes while eating it just to savor it. The chocolate cherry almond croissant... wow. Such a creative combination, and it did not disappoint. Soft, buttery, and filled with a sour cherry compote that reminded me of a cherry cordial from a box of chocolates. 5/5. Hainsley, who helped me, was exceptionally lovely. Everyone even in line was very nice, the vibes were awesome. I'll definitely be back to try the spicy tofu sandwich and the heirloom tomato tart!

While they didn't have their full selection available, there were still plenty of pastries to choose from. We ended up getting the vanilla kouign amann and the chocolate PB&J croissant. The kouign amann was flaky, buttery, and beautifully caramelized. The chocolate PB&J croissant was easily our favorite. It was filled with rich, decadent chocolate and a layer of jelly that balanced everything out without making it overly sweet. My significant other hasn't stopped talking about it since! We're already looking forward to coming back to try more.
