I am here in NY on business from Washington State and I brought my local friend here for Easter dinner. We really wanted to try Max London's but they were only open for brunch. Lucky for us, because this place was awesome. I have been here for a month and have tried various restaurants. This one by far has given the best service and has had the best food. I ordered the seared sea scallops with risotto. WOW. That's all I have to say. It sucks being away from your family, but when you can have a nice dinner like this with a friend, it makes you feel a little more at home. I would eat here every night. Lunch. Today was our first whirl at Wheatfields. Our sever was knowledgable and friendly. The food coming out of the kitchen was quite slow, even though the place was pretty much empty. Our sever was attentive and apologetic. When our food did arrive, we were pleased. We started with two appetizers. Mussels and the fried calamari. Both were acceptable and tasty. The mussels were served in a proper broth with lots of garlic and toast. The calamari came with hot peppers and a spicy tomato dipping sauce. An order of gnocchi in alfredo sauce was the heart attack on a plate we were looking for. Fluffy, melty, cheezy, potato-y lead sinkers were the ultimate in comfort food. I had the lunch special pasta of the day. Pumpkin stuffed ravioli in a roasted red pepper cream sauce. Our server said it came with sausage but it wasn't on the plate when it got to me. Oh well, it was a generous portion of pasta and I enjoyed it anyway. Dessert was a thick and creamy chocolate mousse. Dark chocolate, cream and egg yolks...awesome. We sat in the front window to people watch. They have a patio with outdoor seating and a very nice bar. Their drink menu is traditional. Like a real bar. An American Sidecar is at the top of the list. And they use fresh mixers. I'll be back to sit at the bar and eat pasta while downing a few cocktails that may actually be worth my while. I enjoyed the daqueri I had. Not sickeningly sweet and no red #40. All in all this was a pleasant dining experience. The service was very attentive and the food was delicious. I don't think I'll come here for dinner, however. I don't think $16 is a very good deal for flour and eggs, even if you did roll it out yourself. Lunch is a bit more reasonable with prices around $11. They have lasagna on the menu boasting a 1lb. portion for $10.95 I'll be calling 911 when we both keel over from cream-induced heart attacks tonight, but we'll be back if we survive. read more

This place resembles most of the establishments I've dined at in the Little Italy section of NY...Gaudy decor with overpriced but mediocre food. The atmosphere can be touristy, so it's perfect for extended family gatherings only. Not a good place to take a date. read more

Nothing egregiously awful, just depressingly conventional. The kind of place you might end up in with a group of people you don't know very well, none of whom is capable of forming or expressing a preference, when everyone is quite hungry and you're standing right there looking at plenty of empty seats through the window. Empty because there are so many better options all up and down the street. Here, you will find an uninspiring menu at unexceptional prices, you can consume an entirely unmemorable meal, the best that might be said of which is that it was about what you expected and you weren't sick afterwards. If you care about good food with some purpose other than just making it in the restaurant business, try elsewhere. This place is just sad. read more

I went during a week night, barely anybody in the restaurant and things were extremely slow. Our waiter took our drink order, said he would bring over bread and didn't bring it over for about 15 minutes when he saw our drinks needed to be refilled. Our meals finally came, we needed more bread and drinks but the waiter just dropped our plates off and left. While we were eating, the waiter kept staring at us but never came over to see if we needed anything else. I got the chicken marsala and it had no flavor at all. We also ordered a cheese pizza which was missing any type of flavor. Nice atmosphere and very clean but the service and food was not great. read more

I found this place to have good service and a nice atmosphere, but the food was very average. There just wasn't a lot of taste to the gnocchi and salad I got. Other people in my group also felt similarly, although they had apparently had a better experience here previously. The bread was served warm and was delicious, so that redeems them a little bit. We eat at Wheatfields occasionally and have always enjoyed the experience. The fresh produce, amazing menu and wonderful gluten free options, make this place special. The bar is a great staging area to warm up while waiting for your table and there's always a friendly face. The atmosphere is casual. The pasta is made from scratch and helps make the Scarpetta an unbelievable dish. read more

Food can be very hit-or-miss, especially the pasta, which one expects to be a stand-out, but isn't. It's great that they have a gluten-free pasta available, which is often better than the "fresh." Last month nth, four of us had dinner. The salads and grilled vegetables were excellent as reported by others, and the steak and the toppings on the GF pizza was likewise. I had the Chicken Marsala, recommended highly by the server, and it was awful. Chicken itself was OK, but drowned in a glutinous "sauce" that lacked taste and had almost no mushrooms. Even worse was the pasta, which was pasty in taste and texture and left largely uneaten. The bread was excellent and there is GF bread available, too. I had dinner here, with my friend and the experience was quite disappointing. In spite of the friendly service, the food wasn't fresh. My friend ordered salmon fish and I ordered a Chicken Riti. The only thing that was good of the meal was bread basket. read more

In early February 2013, my wife and I visited Wheatfields to give it one more chance before we wrote it off completely. We knew the menu had been going downhill for years, and we received rude service during our last visit, but as Saratoga residents we thought it worth a second chance. We received the rudest, most incompetent service (once again), and this time we walked out. I am not sure why anybody would pay what Wheatfields charges for mediocre pasta and rude service. There are too many good dining options in Saratoga to be treated like this. read more

I had the pleasure of visiting Wheatfield's during Restaurant Week in Saratoga Springs Dec. '13. In town for a trade show and staying at the Hilton, we were looking for somewhere within walking distance of the hotel, with good food and a nice atmosphere where we could talk business and personal without having to compete with the ambient noise. Wheatfield's filled all that criteria and then some by the added bonus of the 3 for $20 or $30 menu as part of the Restaurant Week specials. I got to admit, we almost walked right past this place at first. At 7:30 on a Dec. night obviously there wasn't any patio crowd to draw our attention and signage didn't really jump out either. When I did take a look from the outside, it looked pretty empty and I thought they were getting ready to lock the doors. But once inside, we could see it was much bigger than it appeared from the street and offered a nice, warm dining room. We were seated promptly and were greeted by our server who mentioned that we arrived on the last day of Restaurant Week which allowed for an addendum to their standard menu. From the special menu (3 for $20) I ordered parmesan encrusted haddock served over angel hair pasta with sun dried tomatoes. But first came the Italian Wedding soup which was not to be missed. Wedding Soup is taken pretty seriously by restaurants in my neck of the woods and I guess I always expect it to be mediocre when I'm out of town. This Wedding Soup (although had a different appearance from "traditional" wedding soup) was tasty, but spicier than what I'm used to and that was a welcome change. Once the main course came, it already looked like a winner. The haddock came out looking good and was prepared to perfection and was pretty filling especially on the bed of angel hair. The last course offered the choice of either the tiramisu or chocolate mousse. I chose the latter and couldn't have been happier. Between the quality and value of the meal, the inviting dining room, the great service, and proximity to the Hilton, I'm not sure I could've reasonably asked for a better place for our group that night. Everyone at the table seemed satisfied as well, and I was glad we had stopped to check this place out. I'm certain I'll get back to Wheatfield's the next time I'm in Saratoga Springs. read more

Generally good food but certainly not that memorable . Vegan options were limited which disappointed us. What I did have which included vegan noodles and tomato sauce was nice. The noise level near the bar is something you will have to contend with if you're seated near there. Parking can be quite a hassle because of the general area. read more

We celebrated my roommate's birthday (Skidmore students) here on Wednesday. We were a group of 10, and nearly all of us had pasta, two ordered the steak. The steak was reportedly good, but the pasta was all around disappointing. I'm surprised that an establishment that is famous for its pasta can create such tasteless food. I ordered the porcini radiatori, and we shared the anti pasta platter. The tomatoes in the anti pasta were awful, mealy and no fresh. The pasta was barely edible, no flavor, over cooked. My friend's Mac and cheese was similarly inedible. This was the second time I've been to Wheatfields and I will not be coming back. The service was fine, atmosphere is fine, but the food is overpriced and awful. There are other pasta and pizza places in Saratoga (Chianti 2!!!) that are much better. Also, their "lobster ravioli" is actually lump crab- what's the point of even calling it lobster ravioli??? This place deserves to be on one of Gordon Ramsey's hellish kitchen shows- it clearly needs to be reinvented. read more

My boyfriend and I were drawn here for their homemade pasta. The weather was beautiful so we sat outside and people-watched over dinner. We split a bottle of wine, and enjoyed the warm baguette and herb garlic butter and salads to start. I ordered the pesto gnocchi with chicken and he had the eggplant parm. The gnocchi was incredible- the pesto was made fresh with herbs and pinenuts. The gnocchi was to die for: hand rolled with ricotta cheese in the dough. The eggplant parm was light and not over greasy. The service was friendly and attentive; the meal was timed and brought out really nicely, also. We will definitely return the next time we visit Saratoga. read more

My wife and I ate here last night and it was pretty good. The soup of the day was a delicious tomato based soup with chick peas, potato and tomato chunks. My chopped salad was huge but could have used more dressing. My wife's salmon was excellent. Very good bread with a garlic flavor. A bit too strong for my looking. Very good service. We ate inside, and had no trouble getting a table when we walked in at 6pm. Good size dining room. read more

Food for EVERYONE! I'm gluten free, and I also have to be cautious with a lot of other foods due to several intolerances, and bad IBS. I'd eaten at Wheatfields in Clifton Park, but was disappointed the first time I tried this Saratoga location. I decided to give it a second chance, and I'm glad I did. I went with my husband, and a friend and her spouse. I got gluten free bread to start with this time, and even though it wasn't as soft and delicious as the non-gluten free option looked, I was grateful for the option. I got a gluten free flatbread, and they let me customize the toppings so I could avoid the foods I know set my tummy off. Everyone else got pasta that they shared, and they all agreed it was one of the best meals they'd had. Prices were reasonable, and the food was delicious. Knowing I can come here and eat without getting sick makes it the perfect option for me. Knowing the food is wonderful makes it perfect for everyone else, too. Definitely a go-to option whenever we have company! read more

I have been here a couple of times. Nice location and nice ambiance. They have many options for vegetarians as well as non-vegetarians. Their homemade pastas are really good. I have had arancini for appetizers and spinach fettuccini for main course. Both were good. Portion sizes are optimum. read more

The Lobster Ravioli was delicious. The NY Strip was cooked just right, the mushroom risotto was great and the seasonal mixed vegetables were amazing! The crab macaroni and cheese was yummy! Our waitress, Britney, was excellent. My kids said she was their absolute favorite waitress in all the places we've eaten at this week. My kids sampled most of the desserts and they were all wonderful; creme brûlée, chocolate mousse, cheesecake and the flourless chocolate cake. And how can I forget the truffle fries!!! read more

DO NOT COME HERE!!! The WORSE manager (a woman) snobby, rude and very condescending. The waitress understand it was them who made a mistake and sincerely apologized, which was a right thing to do. 1. Our food didn't come out after an hour. 2. Watching other tables from empty to full and have people ordered their food and watched them finished their food. They all came after us. 3. Out of sudden the manager came, we didn't ask for manager because we thought the waitress handled it nice enough, thinking she came to assist us but NOOO, never say sorry even once. 4. The manager with rude aggressive way asked us to have the food which we refused nicely and try to explain we have the reason to cancel the order. She cuts us off and just handle the bill for us for the salad. 5. The waitress look ashamed for what that manager did and apologized again, I was so shock I couldn't even say anything at that time and left after pay the bill. She should never manage the restaurant with that attitude. read more

Worst service I have ever encountered in an upscaled restaurant. Arrived at 3pm to a sparsely populated restaurant. We ha 12 people in our table. We prefer appitisors which took 45 minutes to arrive. Then we ordered aur enters and it was 90 minutes till most of them arrived. Most were wrong and one was never ordered. Then it took over 45 minutes to deliver our separate checks. Manager did come over finally to try to rectify the problem but too l a re. All checks were wrong. 3 and a half hour later. We left. Do not recommend. Food was ok read more

My basic recommendation is to avoid this place. Especially for the price, which may be typical for touristy Saratoga Springs, as it cost three of us eating pretty minimally almost $90 (with tip) for a lunch that was disappointing all the way around. I guess I'll take them for their word that their pasta is made from locally sourced wheat (I'm suspicious), but if that's true then any real caring stops there. My two companions had pasta dishes with overcooked pasta and bland, old-school gloppy sauces. I had a chicken club sandwich (it was lunch on a hot day sitting under very pleasant awnings along the sidewalk) that was served open-faced on a split portion of Italian bread with a couple of sorry pieces of iceberg lettuce and a single slice of industrial-cardboard tomato accompanied by scattered slices of grilled chicken breast all drowned in some kind of creamy salad-dressing or something. It couldn't be folded and closed to eat by hand so had to be eaten with a knife and fork but the rubbery bread made it quite a struggle. This was actually a pretty gross sandwich, especially considering a chicken club is something really nobody gets wrong no matter how iffy the joint. The two pasta dishes were at least mediocre. Also worth mentioning, we all split a tomato and burrata appetizer which was served with the same cardboard tomato slices I had on my sandwich (to be fair, it wasn't local tomato season in Upstate New York yet, but there are better options available that would split the difference between cardboard and farm fresh) and what I'm pretty certain from the grainy texture was thawed-from-frozen burrata. read more

What happened. We loved coming here and we booked our reservation in advance. We showed up on time. Multiple tables open. The hostess said they were cleaning out table and we would be seated soon. Thirty minutes later we were still waiting. Not sure what kind of cleaning was. Wing done. We looked around the restaurant and saw people without food, still not having been greeted etc and decided to leave. If your going to be open on New Years with short staff just let people know and they can set there expectations. Was really looking forward to dining here read more

We came as a group of 5 on a Saturday evening, no reservation. We were seated rather quickly, after we elected to sit outside. It took our waiter a hot minute to come collect our drink order, getting the drinks took even longer. Jason was our waiter. His attitude was interesting, he was a little too friendly. When ordering food he suggested another entre aside from the one I requested and continued to do so after I assured him I knew what I wanted. Our food took forever and my steak was awful. It was so peppery and was not cooked properly. I would not recommend this place. If you do come make sure you don't have Jason as a waiter. read more

I love wheatfields! I like to go whenever I'm in town. Always great service and overly accommodating for the gluten free folks! This used to be the "go to" for great Pasta. Somehow over the years the food has gone downhill at both locations. In Saratoga it appears to me they are drawing a large crowd of the adult singles to their happy hour promotion. I guess it's difficult for me to enjoy listening to that noise while I eat and the 50 ish crowd try's to pick one another up. I've stopped going to either location when in town. read more
