First eating seafood in Saratoga New York and I have to say, it's closer than fried chicken. Different flavor than my New Orleans seafood of my love. The bartender is awesome, funny and informative. What a nice clean, cozy, and inviting bar. Located across from the front desk and connected to the dining room. The dining room was bright and seating was comfortable. We ate dinner in the bar, soup of the day was Cajun potato soup it was delicious, my husband ordered French dip sandwich the beef was very flavorful and the bun was fresh and tasty. I ordered the club wrap it was larger than expected and I had leftovers. The sides were fries, mashed potatoes, onion rings or side salad. I chose the salad fresh and crisp. Bartender was friendly with all customers. Enjoyed dinner and a few cocktails. Inviting fire pit outdoors connected to dining room and bar. Large comfortable seating. We chose to eat breakfast as well for convenience and a lazy morning. Seated by very helpful hostess, served coffee and water, suggest the breakfast special loaded breakfast tacos, apple pie french toast. My husband chose the breakfast tacos, I had plain French toast and fruit cup. Everything was delicious . What, no reviews for Bookmakers? This restaurant in the Holiday Inn here on Broadway has been open for years. I'm surprised there's no reviews. Anyhow.... My parents have had dinner here a few times before, but my kids and I had our first meal here the other night. We came with my folks. We got there at 6pm, and the entire restaurant (which is quite large and lovely) was empty, save for one couple at a table against a far wall. The place was heavily air conditioned and my parents, who are older, asked the hostess, if possible, to turn down the AC. She never did. We got a lovely table by the window. It was strange to essentially have this large, nice restaurant all to ourselves. Mom and I immediately asked for martinis on the rocks. Soon after, we all placed our dinner orders. The bread came out; it was delicious! Warm cheese bread, and the tastiest seeded thin crackers I've ever had. Lovely! We waited and waited but no martinis came for us. The restaurant is still empty and the waitress, who was a sweet girl, was nowhere to be found. After 20 minutes, I walked to the bar area across the restaurant and asked what the status was of our martini order. The bartender nodded to the 2 empty classic martini glasses on the counter, saying they were "coming up". I noted we wanted our drinks on the rocks. 5 minutes after, our drinks came, but with lemon and lime twists, not olives as desired. Another few minutes, the olives came. Finally!!! I must say, it took 30 minutes, but the martinis were good. There were some screw-ups with the meal, too: they brought my dad a small house salad instead of the dinner Caesar he ordered. The mashed potatoes that came with some of our meals were totally cold (tasty, but cold). The strawberry shortcake dessert was very sophomoric, of store-bought sliced Sarah Lee variety. That said, I must say, the beer-battered, fried catfish was the BEST fish my mother and I had had in a long, long time. Even my kids adored it, and they don't tent to like fish. Man, it was amazing! The crab cake appetizers were quite good too (they were more like crab balls, not patties, but I digress...!). My kid who ordered Caesar salad (and actually got one) said it was great. So.....yes, we waited a LONG time for service, despite the empty restaurant, and it was too chilly in the place, and there were lots of glitches. So came here for drinks at the bar and the service was ok, just ok. Not friendly. Just there. Came for breakfast the next day. They have a buffet. Im not a big eater so I asked if I could order off the regular menu. Waitress says yes but it'll take a while. Ok , get me a menu. P.E.M. hits the buffet and I wait....and wait....and wait Oh here comes ding dong waitress finally, I just want a bagel. ok..it finally comes when he's done with his first plate. Waitress had a HUGe attitude that I wasn't go to pay $13 for abuffet when all I wanted was bread . Speaking of...not toast ..croissants or anything on the buffet, some English muffins and a broken toaster which left breakfast partner waiting for 10 mins to toast only one half of it. I have eaten here twice after attending conferences in Saratoga Spring. There are better brunch, breakfast or lunch spots in Saratoga Springs than Bookmakers. However, if you are eating here is most likely because you were staying at Holiday Inn or you were really impressed with their outdoor seating. The pros: Since everybody is eating everywhere else, It's not packed. So expect quick service. The supply and demand of eating out. Very good portion sizes The so-so: The food is good/decent, but it won't be on your rave list when your friends ask you about your dining experience. Expect food to be ready in 10-15 minutes. So factor this if you are getting breakfast here before heading out. It's not bad of a spot. It just isn't great. read more

We came in for dinner this past week and ordered the Penni Pasta Alfredo with chicken and asked for no mushrooms and also ordered the cheeseburger with bacon and bbq sauce. The Alfredo came out with mushroom and the burger had no bbq sauce. Sent back Alfredo pasta and it came back with a ton of garlic on it. At that point was very disappointed and couldn't eat. As for the burger it's a frozen burger. We had better food and service over the years there. We always loved eating here. It was a off night for them. Waitress was also complaining that she was the only one on she was busy. She had four tables in dinning room at the time and also looks like she was serving the bar area also. For being track season you would think they would put out better quality of food and service. The place is totally remodeled and looks nice. After they modeled they'd moved handicapped parking in the front and we had to us back entrance and had to walk through with people sitting smoking cigars. They need to rethink about more handicap parking in front and do something about there smoking area near doors. I would of given them 4-5 stars if the quality and service was better. read more

One of the best burgers in town. Our server was fantastic, she knew the menu up and down. She told us about the new menu and actually went into the kitchen for us to try out one of the new menu items. We had the shrimp po boy and it was killer. Can't wait for that thing to come out! The chips they serve with the chicken was painfully flavorless and it felt like biting into a piece of glass. They'd be smart to get rid of them and go for fries instead. The chicken itself was god awful. The skin feel off the meat with a slight touch. Some of the meat was soft while other parts of it were painfully hard. It felt like I was chewing on a bone. My son and I came in for breakfast the day after Thanksgiving we have eaten here before and expected a good meal with good service. The meal was fine but the service was terrible . The dining room was not busy when we got there just one other table that looked like they were done eating. There were several dirty tables and no waitress to be seen. If it wasn't for the hostess that sat us and got our drinks we would have been there sitting even longer than we wanted.Now maybe it is a team effort to wait on tables but the only person we saw was the hostess.The waitress eventually appeared to take our order and she did seem polite but when we needed more tea or juice it was the hostess that took care of us. The waitress seemed to be spending a lot of time in the kitchen and not on the floor. I think the hostess sensed my frustration and she did comp our meal. Besides bring our food the only other time we saw the waitress was to pick up her tip...I hope she wasn't looking for a large amount. I'm a local to the Saratoga Springs area and recently had a birthday dinner for 6 people at Bookmakers. We were inspired to go there because we had a number of discount coupons. 2 coupons they automatically added a 18% gratuity and we had an Entertainment coupon that they did not add the gratuity. I hadn't been there in at least 10 years or more, actually back so long ago it had a comedy club there. I was pleasantly surprised by the reasonable prices which easily were covered by the coupon limit of $25.00. I found the food quality and service to be excellent. Everyone enjoyed their meals and cocktails and the service was prompt and accurate. I enjoyed what was likely the most expensive entree of 8 oz Lobster tail and steak at $32.95. Most of the entrees were $15-$25 range and all included a salad as a side and another choice of a side dish. My lobster tail was as well prepared as I have had in many other Saratoga restaurants if not perhaps better and less costly. All six of us were extremely pleased to get quality service and food especially during the track season which normally I as a local stay away from the restaurants near Saratoga because so many of them add a few dollars to the menu prices which magically drop after labor day when the track closes. I will most certainly return and it was a very nice surprise. read more
