First open house ~ some woman thinks SHE can determine where we can sit. I DON'T THINK SO. I later learned that this "Entitled" attitude runs rampant. Principal is extremely proud of their "legacy" policy. Let me get this straight ~ you would rather accept an "F" caliber student who has siblings attending or parents who attended rather then a "B" student with NO previous ties to this school? The resounding "yes" sealed the deal. Get the picture? Our education dollars were spent at another private school.

They went from rating a 4 out of 10, to now being a 7 out of 10! thats a huge improvement!!! Everyone i know that attends or did attend this school loves it. I feel like the diversity helps because people of different cultures are welcomed into this environment. The school also helps with your child's bilingual needs no matter what language they speak, and chances are if your child doesn't speak Spanish they will pick some up from there fellow classmates.

I have no issues with any of the students at Glenbard East. I placed a general inquiry call and spoke personally with the lovely Mr. B. He is in the Office of Operations. I am very thankful for his time. Unrelated to my call, I was informed that they are staffed with 11 Security Guards, and over 200 Security Cameras. As I went to HS back in the day of Typing Class for females only, and an outdoor smoking area for students and teachers, this was all very pleasant to learn. I have left Shimer College after 3 semesters for another university in the city. While I would not…read moreoutright dissuade anyone from considering this college, I will say that I left because I was unhappy with most aspects of the school. The student body is limited both in size (less than 100) and diversity of any sort (racial, political, ideological). For the price of approx. $24,000 there is no real campus and resources are severely limited . Student services are next to nonexistent although efforts are being made to change that. Academically it is hit-or-miss. As with any school one must ultimately take charge of their own education. Some of my experiences here did a great deal to foster my growth as a critical thinker and I appreciated the emphasis on reading original source material... However, the academics of this school are a bit overrated by its supporters. I felt that too many of the students at the school seem to have found a home at Shimer because they are curious but lack the academic ability for a more rigorous school. At a small school, w/small discussion based classes, that negatively impacts everyone's educational experience. Professors teach all subjects regardless of their background. Someone who's academic pedigree is in literature will be teaching your science classes. I found the administration to be quite dysfunctional. A brief, unscientific survey of students who have graduated immediately before and during my time at Shimer finds a sizable number ( greater than 40%) unemployed, underemployed, or working for the school as labor. This speaks to those, like myself, who want a solid, liberal arts education but plan on a career outside academia. If one does attend Shimer and later decides to transfer to another school, be forewarned that coursework here does not easily transfer to other institutions. Caveat emptor

My kids love going to Mathnasium! Honestly, it's one of the only activities they don't complain…read moreabout attending. They even loved the assessment the very first day, which to me looked like a test! The teachers and director do an amazing job making math fun. My kids love the motivational incentives they can earn, and really work hard for the incentives. There's nothing rote or boring about the way Mathnasium teaches math. Their program has helped my kids learn to think more mathematically. It's not like a typical tutoring program, where my kids do their homework with another adult. I can do that at home! Mathnasim has gotten them excited about math, and able to think at a higher level.

Have 3 kids here. Amazing school with 2 track religion curriculum. Catholic and world religion…read more Rigorous academic curriculum with emphasis on social emotional learning/development. Quite a bit of volunteering as well to help keep the kids grounded and caring about the world around them. A rare combination of an independent school with a catholic underpinning where other religions are not just welcomed but celebrated. I didn't have that exposure until I was in college. Glad I can expose my kids to this diversity early on. And did I mention they are crushing all their academic/standardised tests!!!
