Wheeler is a much better place to donate than Goodwill because they value what you donate and treat your items with respect. They do not run big outlet locations like Goodwill where they dump donations in huge bins for people to root through and damage. You can drop off items behind their store, or in off hours bring them into the store. They so not spend tons of money on fancy TV commercials and fancy stores. Their profits go to directly serve homeless people and those with substance addiction problems. I personally know one of the people they helped to turn their life around. Please make the little extra effort to go to their thrift store which is east of the super Walmart on 96th to shop and donate. The Wheeler Mission Store is one of my go-to thrifting spots. Is it the cheapest? Naw. Is it clean and well organized and have a good variety of things to choose from? YES! This location is on the same side of the road as the Walmart and in the same plaza as the Petco, Platos, and the Autoparts store. The staff are super nice and there are a lot of volunteers walking around as well. I have found several things that are new with tags (priced accordingly), tons of name-brand goods, and there is rarely that funky thrifted smell that permeates everything you get from the WMS. They have everything from clothes to furniture/household goods to really nice jigsaw puzzles. Everything is super easy to find. Prices here at the Mission Store are a little higher than places like Goodwill, but every purchase supports the Wheeler Mission by providing meals and funding for training to their residents. There are also hand-made candles and other wares that the residents make while staying at Wheeler for purchase. Once while shopping I noticed it was busier than normal and the associate explained that they allow Wheeler residents to come and shop for what they need to get back on their feet. COOL! read more

This hidden gem is the best kept secret in thrift stores. I seldom shop at thrift stores, I donate often at Goodwill but never get past the donation dock. I have found that most thrift stores are disorganized and often smell musty or moldy. I don't have time to sort through disorganized merchandise and I don't enjoy looking at moldy smelling books and clothing. The Wheeler Mission store has changed my option about thrift shopping. It is very clean and the furniture, clothing, books, kitchen items, etc. are very well organized. There are dozens of pictures displayed on the walls. Even the pictures alone are worth a trip, if you are shopping for wall decor it is likely you will find something you like here. The furniture is nicely displayed and in very good or excellent condition. Today there were many dining tables, couches , dressers, end tables, chairs, coffee tables, and lamps on display. Truly you could completely furnish an entire home or apartment with just one trip to this store. I happened upon this store while I was leaving the nearby Panera, otherwise I never would have known it was here. If you are looking for vintage toys or games, or want to relive your childhood you need your stop by for a visit. I must admit that I have mixed emotions about Wheeler Mission Store, a thrift store located just inside Fishers on East 96th Street that supports the programs of Indy's Wheeler Mission. I was unaware of the Wheeler Mission Store until today's trip up to Fishers to check out a couple of other places. Located in the Strip Center with Petco and Pep Boys, Wheeler Mission Store is almost exactly what you'd expect with a few exceptions. First off, this is a thrift store but it's easily the cleanest and most organized thrift store in Indy. It puts every single Goodwill location to shame. The layout does somewhat resemble a Goodwill. The front doorway actually has an automatic door, though this is a leftover from the previous tenant rather than a conscious decision. There's accessible parking that's semi-ADA (ADA compliant actually requires the metallic signs that do not exist here). The floor plan is very wheelchair friendly. I was able to get everyplace I wanted to go in the store, though I will note the shopping carts are a bit high for wheelchair users. It's important to note that there's a definite Christian vibe throughout Wheeler Mission Store - this should not be a surprise given Wheeler's mission of providing "Christ-centered programs and services for the homeless and those in need." Contemporary Christian music, think NeedtoBreathe, was playing in the background. The selection here is pretty close to phenomenal and surprisingly well organized and displayed. Again, it blows Goodwill out of the water. Items here all appear to be clean and well presented. Items range from home decor to clothing to books/entertainment to a whole slew of other items. Prices vary. Wildly. I saw men's pants, for example, priced from $7.99-$12.99 and even higher. I just laughed. Yes, they were a bit nicer. Yes, they were cleaner. No, I would never even think about paying that at a thrift store (Admittedly, I think Goodwill is also overpriced. However, part of that is Goodwill so poorly organizes and sizes their items that I know for a fact I'll give half my items home and they won't fit. It happens every single time). On the flip side, I saw kitchen wares at fairly reasonable prices. For example, I picked up a frying pan for $5.99. It was in decent condition and definitely a good price. Most of the entertainment items were decently priced, though $5.99 for used vinyl is silly. Home decor was hit-and-miss. I saw great prices. I saw "No way" prices. That said, if you're a supporter of Wheeler and this cause is important to you then you may very well say "It's worth it to me." Employees, and I'm not sure if they're paid or volunteer, were uniformly friendly. My hope is that they are paid and/or in some sort of vocational training. Regardless, they were top-notch. The young woman working the check-out was friendly, precise, and clearly knew what they were supposed to say. As another note, they offer a 10% discount for seniors (55+). As another note, they'll also ask you if you're willing to round up. They also inform you how many meals your purchase bought. I'll be honest. I thought about a 3-star. However, there's a lot to love here in terms of items, atmosphere, accessibility, employees, and the mission. While I'm not willing to go with a 5-star, for those who are looking for a better thrift store option checking out Wheeler Mission Store makes sense. This is easily the cleanest and most organized thrift store I've seen in Indy. While some of the pricing may take it out of reach for some folks, there's enough variation here that the old saying "There's something for everyone" very likely applies. I'm not sure I'd call this a destination thrift store, but there's no doubt I'll be back. read more

I was up on 96th street and decided to stop in to check it out. I've heard of wheeler mission, but had no idea that they had a store location. I was pleasantly surprised at how large the store is, and what a nice selection of clothes that they have. If you have the time to truly search around and find items you should. When I was in the area for a Yelp Elite event, I noticed that this store was created. Their cashier said it has been opened there since Sept. 16 this year as their other location did not happen due to a construction issue. It is a huge donation store like Goodwill but has individual pricing instead of pricing by categories. It is a step up in the appearance of a Salvation Army store. I bought a couple of new items. Also, at that time by the registers, they had free CDs of popular ministers' sermons. Yeah, they play contemporary Christian music. If you are at least 55 years old, you get a discount daily of 10 percent off. I learned that this ministry supports about 600 homeless people, etc. in Bloomington in addition to Indianapolis. read more

I've been debating whether I should ever leave this review because this is one of fishers best kept secrets. Probably the best thrift store in the area. I think things are priced much more logically here compared to goodwill. Yes, wheeler mission does have more expensive "luxury" items BUT you can tell they are well kept and more so worth the money. They still have cheaper clothing items as well. What I really appreciate here are the home goods. You go to other thrift stores and they have, for example, mason jars for $7 each!! Absurd! Wheeler prices their home goods perfectly. I have been collecting antique vases for a project and was able to find a ton of them for $1-3 each. Additionally, this store is SO clean and organized. This store is HUGE. It took me over an hour to make my way through it all. They have everything, furniture, clothing, home decor, books, storage containers etc. Lots of prom and wedding dresses and shoes. It's very well organized. However just a heads up, this is definitely a religious organization ran business with loud Christian music playing the entire time. Bigger and more organized than a goodwill or Salvation Army. The prices are generally fair, slightly more expensive than goodwill, but the items are much more curated and checked/tested for quality. Clothing prices are very high. Could hardly move the hangers in men's, too many unsold items. The potential you have to make so much money if you price similar to Goodwill. Even bigger hard goods/furniture, most were down to the 50% off price, which was more appropriate in the first place. I understand it's for charity, however we, the consumer, will stick with Goodwill, Salvation Army & other charity thrift stores on the north side for clothing. This was my second time to this store, the first was the end of 2023. I thought I'd try again thinking maybe you'd adjusted the pricing policy. You have not. I left without buying anything. Big store, was clean and full of inventory. Interestingly the place was dead. Their prices are just not reasonable. Lots of nice stuff but shirts for $35, even Polo Ralph Lauren isn't what people want from a "thrift" store. Lots of Levi's jeans for $35 too. I saw a few things I'd buy normally from other stores like Goodwill, but the prices were much higher comparatively. I left with nothing. read more
