This place is an Arcadia institution and it's been a long time since I had eaten here. If you ever want to know what an old-school diner from the south Florida of a hundred years ago, give this place a try. My mother is retirement age and she used to go here when she was a little girl and it had been around awhile then. As stated in another review, this place was originally called "Fiegler's Goody Café". Mr. Fiegler married a Ms. Wheeler and after Mr. Fiegler died, the name was changed to "Wheeler's Goody Café" and then after awhile, just "Wheelers" (if memory serves...I could be wrong about ths part). After Mrs. Wheeler retired, her family ran the place for a long time. They cashed out in the early 1990s and has been under different ownership although they have kept the "Wheeler's" name on the place. Mostly they just have good old country food here and you can still get things like collard greens and peanut butter pie. I hear the latter is quite good although I haven't had chance to try that yet myself. I hear their meatloaf is pretty good too. Down home southern cooking, a classic old diner with walls filled with photos from Florida's "old West". It seems to me you would simply have to eat something here if you come to Arcadia. As a pretty serious healthy eater I thought I would be in trouble trying to get a breakfast here, but not so much...I ordered a Spanish omelet minus the cheese, asked for extra veggies, and got a nicely cooked, surprisingly light omelet loaded with red bell pepper, onion and tomato. After I ordered the omelet with my special requests and was balking over the side dish choices, the waitress, who by now had me figured out, suggested I could have some sliced tomatoes instead of hash browns, grits or home fries. So I manage to get a healthy meal out of what I would normally call a "greasy spoon". Cool! My husband had a western omelet with a huge pile of grits. He had no complaints. We didn't get to the pies, which are apparently all homemade and locally legendary. read more

Generally I love this kind of place. Small old and very local. I had a bacon cheeseburger with fries. The burger was quite good it looked and tasted like a fresh paddy rather than frozen. The bacon was surprisingly good. The fries were good fresh cut fries that were hot and fresh, if a little under seasoned. I had the peanut butter pie and I it was made from scratch and very good. The only downside was that it took a little over a half hour to get my order, otherwise the service was good. Be forewarned that it is a local place and as a traveler you stand out. If I am back in the Arcadia area again I will definitely eat here again. read more

When I read Scotts review, I thought his sides explained the rstaurant, god old southern cooking. They have a board of specials every day and they are all good. The restaurant has been open since 1929 and is definitely not to miss when visiting Arcadia. Try the sweet potato fries with cinamon butter dip. My friend drives from Miami for the pies. This was a great find for me and our Scout Troop! We spent the weekend canoeing down Peace River and passed by this cute little town for lunch before heading back home. We were a very hungry troop and found the cafe 30 min's before they were scheduled to close. The folks at the restaurant accommodated all 23 of us and our meal orders. The most popular was the cheeseburger which was delicious, mac and cheese was yummy. The catfish hoagie was well prepared and the beans, rice and fried okra were amazing! To top if off the pie and coffee at the end sent us on our way back home with smiles on our faces. The service was warm and very hospitable. Definitely a five star rating!!! read more

Great food & excellent service in this quaint little restaurant. First time eating here, but was very pleased. Don't forget the pie; we got chocolate peanut butter, chocolate coconut & pecan & they were all delicious. This cafe is great for meeting people, having coffee and maybe a snack. Meals are fair, but mostly a tourist spot. Locals know this and may grab breakfast, but not a place to take the family for lunch or dinner. read more

Went to Wheeler's today for lunch. Road motorcycles with friends from Cape Coral. Great ride. Now for lunch....2 thumbs down!!! I had a chef salad, it was ok. My husband and friend had coney dogs, came 2 to an order. I shared one, it was cold, coney sauce was cold, yuck! No drink refills, bill was confusing, more than we expected. This used to be our go-to breakfast spot, however, the last couple of times we've been (within the past 8 months) haven't been the greatest experiences. I had the chicken fajita omelet and the chicken was so rubbery, I couldn't eat it, let alone chew it. Our guests from out of town weren't too impressed with their breakfast either. I will say that their pies are delicious. read more

" Amazingly good food, homemade pie that is out of this world (I tried them all) amazing warm atmosphere, exceptional service (Angel was my waitress and she couldn't be nicer) and fries just like back home in Chi-town. Found on computer and decided to visit. Great down home cooking with all the great food mother cooked. Green fried tomatoes were to die for. If you go out hungry it is your own fault.Locals are very friendly. Brings back a lot of childhood memories. I will be back to try their other home cooked dishes. read more

Nice, down home country cooking and atmosphere. My sister-in-law and I had the steak stir fry over a bed of rice. Tender meat. The vegetables were not overcooked (an issue I find with some stir fry). I probably would have enjoyed a little more sauce with the dish but was satisfied with my meal. My brother had the barbecued pork sandwich. He was pleased. There was a generous portion of meat on the kaiser roll. The side salad that came with the meal was fresh and again, large portion. These were both specials of the day. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Overall, very pleased. I plan on returning to try other dishes. Possibly weekly. I've missed that kind of cooking since moving from rural Ohio. If you are expecting fancy with frills, this isn't your kind of restaurant. But, if you want a tasty meal at a good price in a family atmosphere, you will enjoy Wheelers. read more

Problem is they have no idea their service leaves a lot to be desired..Dirty ash tray on the table, no silverware, had to ask several times for refills. Came here with my family on the drive from disney to Naples. The perfect food stop. Arcadia has a bunch of antique shops and this delicious cafe. Half the cafe is air conditioned and the other half is a screened in porch, we had a delightful light breeze flowing through. The food was good, but the home made deserts were even better. the sides were the best, carrot raisin salad with bits of pine apple, turnip greens with house made hot sauce, creamy potato salad, very good onion rings, but we didn't really care for the french fries. We had simple BLT's and a cat fish hoagie. The peanut butter pie was very good, but I think the key lime pie was even better. We also liked the peach cobbler and fat boy cake. Our Sunday morning breakfast run took us to Wheeler's Cafe this morning. The servings were more than we could each finish and reasonably priced (both of ate for under $20 - yay!!) Service was wonderful and delivered with a smile :) The lunch sides and deserts looked awesome, we plan on returning in the fall. read more

Absolute WORST service. The older blonde waitress was AWFUL towards her customers and my family. She slammed and crashed dishes, didn't smile, rolled her eyes, and appeared continuously upset. We've been in many times, but this was the last straw. A bit of advice to the owner/owners, give her a retirement card and a couple bucks to go away. It will definitely benefit your business since Wheeler's has been around for almost a century. read more

My husband and I decided to try this restaurant after seeing the reviews online. Do not believe them! This has to be the worst restaurant we've ever eaten at! The food was greasy, the tables were dirty, the menus were dirty. I figure how can you mess up Bacon and eggs, well you can. The bacon was cold and greasy and the eggs, which I ordered over easy, had a hard yolk and the grease was dripping off of them. My husbands steak was atrocious, you'd never know we were in beef country. The creamer on the table that says keep refrigerated, was warm and not refrigerated. The butter on the tables we were afraid to even try, because they were warm. I don't know how this place stays in business. I would definitely not recommend eating here. read more
