The man that served us gave us so much time and personal attention and shared years of knowledge to make this a truly craft/throwback experience that you don't get online. If I could give negative stars I would. They had my bike hostage for three weeks I called several times and never got a response back and when I returned after three weeks the bike and even been touched !!! If you don't want to do repairs then you should tell people you don't want to do repairs. If that's the way they handle their service I wouldn't recommend buying a bike or renting any equipment from them ever !!! read more

We rented boards at 3:30 and they took our information and charged us for a 4 hour rental. When we returned the boards at 6:30, the man sitting outside didn't assist us at all with taking the boards off the car or bringing them in. I forgot my license so he said I had to go back to get it. I went inside to ask the employee who took my information to run it in the system so I wouldn't have to drive all the way back. The man who was sitting outside then told us he was the owner and he didn't appreciate that I asked someone for a different answer and that it was disrespectful so he was going to charge us an extra dollar. He was extremely rude the entire time. read more

This place is awesome! The negative reviews on here must be from people who simply cannot relax. It's a very easy going and busy shop but they really do take care of you once you get going. I had a surf lesson with Pete and he was excellent! My husband had dropped me off so I didn't have a car to get to the surf spot on the beach, and Pete had a scooter, so the guys let us use a truck which was super nice. Great day, great waves, Pete was encouraging, gave great pointers and was safe. I was so impressed I returned the next morning for a lesson with Mike who was also excellent. The waves were not as good but we practiced other things in the meantime that really helped me! Again, the shop is laid back but super friendly. If you're there on vacation just relax and go with the flow and you won't be disappointed. read more

My daughters, 12 & 15 have taken a few surf lessons in the past and loved it, so, while we were visiting Maine, they wanted to do it again. We called a few places and we liked what Wheels and Waves had to offer for a lesson and then use of the board. We got to the shop on time, the girls were fitted for wet suits and they directed us to the beach....we found beach parking and quickly found the guy with the van....I wish I could remember his name because he was great with the girls, very patient and polite and gave them some good pointers. At the end of the lesson, we left the boards and wetsuits on the beach w the instructor and he handled it all. It was a nice experience and I'd bring them back. The waves were small, nothing like our surfing in California, obviously...but if you go in with small wave expectations, you'll have a fun time! read more

I went to their location in ogunquit. The employee was very helpful and accommodated our request for baskets. We rented three bikes for the day. Whole I was there I bought some swim items for very cheap. The bikes were in great condition and we enjoyed our ride! Thanks for making the process to rent a bike easy and cheap! read more

Arrogant, self-absorbed, lazy, UNPROFESSIONAL. We had a reservation for four people to for a SUP lesson, made two days earlier. They had our phone number. The manager woke that morning, the winds were high, and he did not not call us when he got in to let us know. We lost our entire morning in planning to go, and they even charged our card before telling us. When I let the manager know that I felt he could have called us when he got in he told me I was ridiculous. I waited 25 years to shop at this store, until I was with others who wanted to go. No one said hello when we arrived. I will NEVER go here again, and the manager said I was welcome to go elsewhere. I wasn't rude, I simply said I felt they could have called us to let us know there was a concern about the wind, and he said he thought I was ridiculous. Really? Customer service? Even a little? I'm not disappointed, but I am horrified at their concern for basic customer service. Say hello. Think about customer service. Don't be self-absorbed. Use empathy. There's another shop down the street. Vote with your feet. read more

We are in Maine for vacation from Colorado and we went to Wheels and Waves for a standup paddle board lesson. Everything about Wheels and waves was great! The people at the shop were so friendly and helpful, and our lesson couldn't have been better! Ben took us to a wonderful spot where we were able to practice turning through beautiful grassy waterways and then leisurely paddle through a beautiful harbor. I would recommend wheels and waves to anyone! read more

If you are a reasonable person, do not go to this shop. The owner is extremely rude and belligerent. I was given permission from an employee to buy two pair of boots for a gift and return the size that didn't fit. When I returned to do so, the owner reprimanded me, said I probably caused him to lose sales (even though there were multiple sizes in stock), and continued to harass me. He pointed to his rude little sign that said, "Don't even ask (about a refund)", He was SO incredibly rude that I will not return and will tell all of my neighbors, family and friends about my experience. This is no way to run a business or treat people. Shame on him...I'll take my business elsewhere. Liquid Dreams, here I come. read more

RUDE , RUDE, RUDE. The young guys that work here, in particular the one who checked me out are just plain rude. There seems to be no appreciation whatsoever for the tourists who keep them in business. There are unfriendly signs posted everywhere like "no refunds or exchanges ever, for any reason whatsoever, no exceptions, blah blah blah . " you get a lecture for everything. I have rented bikes here for years and the guy who used to be there who owned the dog was the only pleasant one. Today when I checked my bike back in so I could pay my life savings for a week's rental of 5 bikes , a young group of Canadians were returning surf boards and gear. Their English and manners were impeccable. The guy working the counter was so INCREDIBLY awful to them... Snide and rude and arrogant... That it was uncomfortable to watch. I wish I would have said something because these poor people were really trying to accept his attacks with grace and patience. They were trying to figure out where the 7th wet suit was. They rented 7 boards and 7 suits and one suit was missing . The young guys were doing their best to locate the suit and assured the staff member they would pay for it if they couldn't find it. You would have thought they had robbed a bank the way the guy treated them. I am sure they didn't get a "thank you for your business" let alone any common decency. I didnt get a thank you either . Never do at this place. I only wish there was a bike shop that would open up next door and put these arrogant, ungrateful guys out of business. Hey wheel and waves.... If it weren't for tourists , Maine and your little shop would be nothing! read more
