The outing itself was a blast. Our MC/referee was a lot of fun and overall it was a great time for our entire group. The facility is in really rough shape though. It's a little dingy. We had ordered some appetizers but they were a little suspect at first glance; I think I dodged some abdominal discomfort by abstaining based on other's feedback from our group. Went here for a team building work event. We were here for a trade show at Suburban Collection and it is also a sales meeting. The arrangements were made by our Marketing Director. First we had dinner then the rules of whirly ball then we played. Dinner consisted of sub sandwiches, fried apps like those mini tacos, mini eggrolls and mini corn dogs, a salad, hummus, and soup. The soup was the weird thing. It was 94 degrees outside and we got soup. Maybe that was our fault but that was an option and I guess we took it. Food was mid at best. Enough to be full but not very good. The bar was open to us for draft beer and beer in the freezer. I got a blue moon on tap and it was not good. Tasted and smelled fishy. So I gave up drinking it after a few sips. The place is dark. And it was well air conditioned. Lots of big couches and random tables and chairs throughout. They have a lot of video type games and foozball and hockey tables tops. All cost. So bring $1's. Whirly ball was fun. I have to say. Playing with my coworkers was a blast. However. The bumper cars were dirty and smelly. Looked like they hadn't been washed in awhile. The catchers were raggedy and we crushed 1 ball. And it is hot. The air conditioner in the bar is not on the whirly ball court so it gets super hot. And your active so now your hot and sweaty. Then the bumper car is filthy and smelly and not maintained. My seatbelt came out of the seat. That's safe. I am not sure how often they clean and maintenance these bumper cars but it doesn't seem like they do. Gross! The score reflects the fact I had a good time with my co workers but the place itself is kinda dirty and smelly. Found this place doing a search for things to do. They have lots of parking and a decent deal if you call ahead and book. We had the place for a couple of hours of play, and split into teams. It's fun to drive around on the bumper cars and try basically play lacrosse on the court. It's fast pace and doesn't require much of any athletic ability. It's good for a team event at work or a fun event with friends. The food wasn't great, so I would recommend not doing a meal there unless it's just for the convenience of it. read more

My husband went here with some friends a while back. It was for a birthday gathering. There were about 25 people and about 10 people actually played. The friends were able to watch the players play. It's hard enough to make a goal without the cart, but so much more challenging with the cart. Teaches you control and coordination for sure. Pretty much everyone 54" and over can play the game. You steer the bumper car around the court. You throw the ball using the whiffle ball catcher-thingy. You pass, you scoop, you try to hit the target. All the while, the other team is doing the same thing. You laugh, you shout, you erupt into cheers when you score. So, how do you sign up? This was the first time I played. I was going to stay home due to the rainy weather. I was glad I went. The event was fun. The staff was friendly and informed you of how to operate the vehicle. The point of the game was that there are 2 teams, Red and Yellow. The teams scoop, catch and sling the ball with the hand held gadget in order to sling it at a device to score points. Each team is elated when the light flashes and you score. This is not an easy task. It is a great team activity and a great way to get to know each other. The cars arenr maintained well so its not easy to play along others if ur unable to control the car. I believe this place was over hype'd up... It's OK place; maybe even for teens. I guess you just have to be really into it. If you are that type of person who loves games like this, please beware of this location -- the facility is actually hidden behind apartment and other stores. The store location doesn't even sit on Grand River, the entrance is off of meadowbrook road. (Don't try looking for it in the dark; its SUCKS!) The bar was nice but of course he was looking for tips -- it doesn't seem like the place is very organized because people are just running in. Had a company event here last night for a party of 12. Working out details and menus with Liz was easy and very accommodating. I choose to create our own buffet and so glad that I did. The Prime Rib and the Roast Italian Rosemary Chicken was my absolutely favorite items and so delicious. I do not eat fried foods but the team demolished the Crunch Breaded Cod Fillet in Mushroom Sauce so I would awesome they enjoyed it. The garlic mash skins, corn and carrots was also delicious and the Greek salad was so creative and tasty. I was happy to have run into the chef and told him how much we all (including myself) enjoy his food. We ended our meal with cheese cake bites that melted in your mouth. Now for review on Whirlyball. We had a BLAST. I have not had this much childhood fun in quite some time. We laughed, we bumped cars, and we may have even swore at each other LOL. I will definitely consider another event or to even come with friends on an occasion if possible. I wish we had one of these were I live (yes, I looked it up already). Our bartender was amazing and our referees kept the entertainment going. My only complaint, is that the facility and the party rooms are a bit dark and dated but you should not let the appearance stop you from having a good time! My work has done Whirlyball as an after-meeting event a couple of different times, and it has always been a blast. I didn't think I would enjoy it because 1) I'm kinda girly, and 2) I'm not terribly competitive (OK, I am, but I try not to be)...but once you're strapped in to your bumper car with that ball catcher in your hand something happens and you turn in to a crazy person. I must admit, I love running in to people the most, but the whole thing is pretty fun. The food is not good. The bar prices are expensive. I've not seen the cost of our events, but I'd expect it is pricey. I'm considering having my husband's next birthday party here because I think he and his friends would love it. So much fun :) I took off a star mostly because the location is just terrible- I've been multiple times and I STILL pass the place up every time. We came for a company event. My first time playing Whirlyball, actually my first time hearing about Whirlyball. I just recently moved here so I had no idea what this was. Its 5 against 5 in bumper cars playing lacrosse basically. Maneuvering the cars can be a bit of a challenge, but I would definitely recommend this. It's a great way to get to know your coworkers too. Scoring is not as easy as you think! This place is located behind some town homes so it could be a little bit difficult to find. Large parking lot so plenty of space. This is an OK place. A lot of the bumper cars are either defective or just dies when you are in the middle of a game. They need to fix most of them including the net/goal because the sensors are screwed up. Their food? HORRIBLE! I am not a fan of frozen pizzas, but I think frozen pizzas (Tombstone or Digiorno's) is way better than the pizzas and bread sticks that they serve. $5 Little Caesar's is way better and more fresh than theirs. Then they have the plastic plates and cups that you can buy from Ikea (kids section). It's like you were going to a kids party. They could have at least buy a more decent plates and glasses. This was the second time that our work group has tried to go here. The first time they somehow lost our reservation and we had a group of about 20 people expecting to play and we couldn't. This was an event scheduled after a work meeting. Luckily we pulled together and went to Lucky Strike in Fountianview for some bowling and had a great time! This time they had our reservation and we got to play. I was excited as I've played whirlyball before, but it had been several years. Everyone had a great time! Some of the carts seemed to be in better shape than the others as far as operation, but overall no huge problems. The only areas for improvement and what earned them only three stars was the fact that it doesn't seemed to be managed all that well. The referee kept leaving our game and then not knowing if people scored or not. Also, the food was nothing special. It really seemed like frozen grocery store snacks that they threw in an oven or microwave. Edible if you were drinking a lot which I wasn't. I'm glad it was early enough that we could go get dinner afterwards. All in all a fun place for a group if you're up for a little friendly competition! read more

This is the second time I have played Whirlyball and my first time at this place. It was great. We had a work outing and they gave us a great rate. Food and Beer was provided. If you have never played this game, you really need to. It doesn't matter how old you may be. What I liked better about the novi location than the ann arbor one is the referee. I purchased a Groupon for this location to plan a Birthday party for my 14 year old daughter. I wasn't aware when I made the purchase that you can only use the Groupon 5 days before your planned event/date. Long story short, I needed the 18th of April and once I was able to use the Groupon, the date I needed was completely booked. I had already planned the party and the invitations were mailed. I was stuck. Carrie (the manager) heard my issue and actually came in early to help me get my babies' party off without a hitch! The service was great and the girls had an amazing time!!! Great place for a fun party!! I called and planned a work outing to have a pizza hour from 3-4 pm, play whirlyball from 4-5 pm, and after to have a "happy hour" at the bar they have from 5-6 pm. Whirlyball center said no problem at all! They had us reserved from 3-6 pm. When we arrived the pizza, breadsticks, salad, and pop was already out for everyone to have, as planned. We didn't start playing whirlyball until about 4:15ish. The cart I had was the only cart to really have issues- it wouldn't go unless someone came and hit the cart really hard (later I had someone else drive the cart to make sure it wasn't a user error). We played two games and then the "ref" had announced, "last call for any bar drinks". We all looked around and thought "okay, my-as-well get a drink before they close". We then jumped right back into playing since it was so much fun! We played one more normal game and then the "ref" said she could only let us play a 3 minute game. We took what we could get. After confirming with the department- Great outing to go to for a work out! The value of the deal we got was expensive considering the following: the bumper cars seemed to have zero maintenance done (I.E.- My first cart not working); the brackets used in the game were half broken; the whirlyball was not a ball (it was all crunched up); we were supposed to have the area and bar for another hour but the two girls running the place (who looked to be about 14 years old) had everything shut down and were ready to walk out the door at 5 pm (even though the other party across from us was still playing whirlyball and had been continually playing the since the moment we arrived). The whirlyball location lost a decent amount of money! We planned to have a work event there for at least another hour but we were practically kicked out right at 5 pm. read more

I have been here on four separate occasions, and can say that I have had a blast every time. And that is saying a lot because I hate fun. This is a great place for birthday parties and group events for work. The food is not that great, but don't hold that against them because they are not a restaurant. We had a Christmas party here on a Saturday night. The place was very busy but the party had the back room to ourselves. The food was descent and the drinks were alright. The bartender would go missing for 20 minutes and then reappear. But the game itself is a blast! I highly recommend this for a fun night out. read more

Went here for a party, it can be expensive with the playing and eating, but the food is good and playing is super fun! It's harder than it looks to score.. the ball never seems to fly out of the ball scoop thing when you want it too, but everyone got better as we kept playing. The carts are hard to work, we went in circles... A LOT! It made it more challenging, but that just added to the game. If you have any musculoskeletal problems - back pain, neck pain, joint issues, be weary of participating as there were times I was hit with another bumper car that rocked my core! We went to WhirlyBall as a company get together back in October of last year. EVERYONE had a blast! It's a great place to get a group together, let loose and have fun! Funny thing is I bought a GROUPON and a LIVING SOCIAL deal and it stated in the terms of the offer that you must book a certain number of days before the party. I understood that when I read the offer and it worked out great. It was more spontaneous and we had a great showing. I imagine like a restaurant that offers a good deal on their slower days or dine in only. So, overall Whirlyball itself is FUN! But the service was so so. When our group had some questions about a charge on our bill, the bartender Olivia, who claimed to be the manager, was very rude. not only that, she basically called us cheap because we were questioning an over priced house salad($23).
