This is becoming a fun hobby with our crew. Actually, my half-brother, Dave, and his buddies drive from venue to venue doing this quite often. My rare honorable moment. The boys say I'm very accurate and could do very well in competition. I can't exactly say why it's such a good time throwing an axe at a target. It's awkward at first; but once you get the hang of it, it's quite easy. My favourite joke being "No drinking and axe throwing". It turns out that there is. They have beers, craft/draft/domestic cans and other spirits available. We don't really indulge in it, but nice to know you can get all liquored up and chuck an axe at the wall. Maybe the location for your next party? The key to this is the hands-on assistance. Axe masters Steve (great name) and Miranda take the time to teach you. It's not all hatchets; they have other items to throw like knives and big axes. Pro Tip: Call for a reservation. Especially if you have a larger group. If you can, bring a smaller group of people. This place is a blast! Had a company function here for fun while we were at the Foam Show. Nothing fancy but doesn't have to be. Drinks available at the bar. And I believe they have food as well. I didn't eat so can't comment on that. Someone is there to teach you what to do. Then you start throwing. So much fun with everyone. It's definitely safe. Service was good. This was so fun! My child and I came here during a St. Patrick's Day event and they had a special five axes for $5 so we tried it. It was tons of laughs. The woman working here was really nice and demonstrated the throwing technique. I did manage to get the ax in the wood once. It is very satisfying throwing the ax, and tons of fun. It is a small place with not too much available as far and refreshments, but it is more of a small hang out to do with friends and family in between dining or seeing a movie. She told me is was $16 per person for half and hour and $30 per person for the hour. I would totally come back here. There is an ax throwing next door but she said it was not really competition for them. I have been next door, but for refreshments and not sports. I think this would be a fun family outing. I am not sure of the ages for this activity since I was not with an underage child. But I do want to return. read more

Came to the Novi location last night on a date. First time. Something I always wanted to do but no one ever seemed. Had a great time. It's a little tricky at fist (especially when you're throwing right-handed but should be throwing lefty). Once you get the hang of it, though, it gets easier and way more fun. Staff was awesome. Disappointing. They say on the website to show up 15 minutes early but take 10-15 minutes to orient you. We had a 6:30 reservation but they told us at 7:15 we were done. Went with the family over the weekend for the open session. The desk staff asked us if we'd ever been, we told them we hadn't. They then didn't give us any explanation at all and just told us to go stand by the throwing area. The whole situation was very confusing until one of the instructors told us what to do like 5 minutes later. First time going to BATL Axe and unfortunately did not have a good experience. I have been to other axe throwing locations and after your tutorial, you are still given about an hour of time. At BATL, after our tutorial we only had 20 minutes of time to play on our own before getting told to leave due to other customers coming in. We made a reservation and paid for our time so it was unfortunate our time was cut short. Honestly was a waste of money. read more

Picture this: moms night out. What to do? "I know!", someone says..."let's do axe throwing!" "Yeah, sure, whatever" the rest agree. We show up to this small corner place, in a cool complex. The atmosphere is jolly. Yes, jolly. There's a medieval type of air in this place, while still being cool and modern. The staff is friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and fun. We gather round the second set of lanes with another group. We throw practice throws, while an instructor guides you (and your sisters laugh at you, if I'm being honest). The axes are smaller and the target isn't too far. Seems easy enough. All 10 of us throw our practice throws, now it's time to get serious. The employee instructs that we'll be doing a round robin type of rotation. They'll keep score, you remove your own axes, and if there's a tie, there's a sudden death tie breaker with the large axe. The game gets started. The 3 dudes are good, the 7 ladies - not so much. First round, I tie with one of the ladies. Great. Now I have to throw the big axe. It's awful. It's huge and heavy. They laugh. Fine. Round 2, we tie. I've now thrown the big axe 6 times, and never stuck it. I hate this big axe. Hopefully I'm done. Wrong. Round three...you guessed it. I've thrown the big axe more than anyone else. I should be a pro. I'm not. Everyone is jealous...they want to throw it. They're so dumb. Game is over and we're waiting for the scores, the worker lets everyone else throw the big axe. I laugh. Except at one of the dudes, he sticks it every time, so I heckle him instead. Yay, we're done. Time for scores. I'm terrible, but because I tied every time, I get 5/10. It's a miracle. The place was clean, even the bathrooms. It was small without feeling claustrophobic. Overall, the experience was super fun and I'd love to do it again. The only reason they get 4 stars instead of 5 is because their bar was pitiful. I think there were 5 craft beer choices, 2 sparkling wine something or others in cans, a tiny selection of alcohol, and water. I get it, we're throwing weapons, they probably don't need a huge bar, but having a micro selection seems worse to me than none at all. BUT, it won't stop me from going again. My advice is hit up another bar (ahem, Bar Louies) in the complex before or after hanging out here. Your night will still be a blast. read more

They came back and said my reservation was over several minutes before it was scheduled to end. The service was mediocre. Avoid at all cost. read more

We had a team building event here for 20 people. We went the day before to be sure we had plenty of room, chairs, and tables for the food we were bringing in. When we got there we were in a corner with a setup for 6 people. 3 small round tables and 1 small square table. Two women tried to move a table and got yelled at by the manager Tyr. I tried to explain that we weren't given the right setup, and he said he couldn't add a table or chairs because of safety. That's fine but we should have been told the day before. Then amazingly he did start bringing chairs and knocked into me as he put them down. He had a huge attitude and was very intense. Possibly high? We did finally get the setup, so I guess safety doesn't really matter. The sad part is that his attitude and horrible service put a damper on what could have been a great night. Our coaches Rex and Lizmo were hilarious and awesome! We left a tip for them, and I joe they didn't have to split it with anyone else. I get that when throwing axes you need to have files. But when managing a business you need to have people skills and soft skills. Tyr had none of these skills. So disappointed read more

We came for my dad's birthday and had a fun time! We only got an hour and there were 5 of us so we could have probably gone longer. Our instructor (cowboy hat guy) was very nice and helpful! None of us had ever done this before and he was great at explaining how to throw the axe. I forgot to wear closed toed shoes and they had some to let me borrow. The only thing keeping this from 5 stars was the attitude of the red haired lady who worked there. She was weirdly rude when we asked for regular water and came to close out our tab before our hour was even up. It felt like she wanted us out of there. Tried to take my family to BATL. It was a several hour process with calls from their Canadian call center to "ask the general manager" (literally) if we could book a time. This was one of the most frustrating, ridiculous processes for a family of consumers wanting to patronize a business in our community. All for $40 per person to walk in the door before any food/drinks. What s joke. In my humble opinion it seems they have a poor focus on customers because they only care about booking the corporate events. Good luck if you're trying to have a good time with a few friends... they'll have to ask the General Manager if it's ok. Never again. read more

My friends and I had the best time! We walked in on a Sunday afternoon and were able to have our own lane. THe walk in price is great, its only $22! For the first 45 min, we were able to have the lane to ourselves. THe last 15 min we had to share but we didn't mind. THey serve beer and alcohol too so that definitely made things more fun. The manager, Tyr, was unprofessional, argumentative and was the poster child for horrible customer service. Owners of this business should understand that Tyr is not representing BATL AXE well and driving away repeat business. I attended an event with colleagues from work and could not have been more embarrassed by his temper-tantrum. As a local to the area, I look for spots to take my daughters and their spouses. I'll look elsewhere for axe throwing because of his atrocious, obnoxious behavior. read more
