Purchase the souvenir mug for $7 and Beer tokens for $1 a piece (5 tokens for a full mug, 1 token for a taste). There are 80 craft beers to choose from. I had to study the map and head to the beer sections I thought I'd enjoy. The lines were rather long, but just drink your current tasting while standing in line (I struggled to finish by the time I reached the front of the line for a refill). There are 2 giant tents to escape the sun, but only high tops and no chairs. There's a stage with live music throughout the day. Plus Festival Food, we enjoyed a Gyro and Bratwurst. What was supposed to be a respite, turned into an escape for many hours. We had fun.

I purchased a general admission ticket expecting access to a full three-day experience of craft beer and community fun. However, the event's re-entry policy was not clearly communicated on the website, in the ticketing process, or in the confirmation emails. When I returned on the second day, I was denied entry because I hadn't taken a selfie with my wristband -- a policy I was not aware of at the time of entry. Staff referenced signage that I hadn't seen the day before, and I wasn't given an option to verify my purchase another way. I was told re-entry would require an additional $10 fee, which hadn't been disclosed during the original ticket purchase. I chose not to proceed and left the event. The overall atmosphere didn't feel on par with past Portland brew festivals. Some of the beer pours were overly foamy, and the energy seemed lower than expected. I've also reached out to the organizers through email and social media but haven't received a response. I was really looking forward to this event, but my experience didn't meet expectations. I hope future festivals improve communication and offer more consistent guest support.

There are a handful of food carts. The dispensing area for the beers is dead center of the activity. Some vendors with face painting, photo booths, and other services are scattered around the beers. They provide free non-alcoholic drinks, cuties, and chips to the kids. There was plenty of seating with umbrellas for everyone who attended. I thoroughly enjoyed the event. Size-wise it is much smaller in comparison to the old brew fest along the waterfront. But it is big enough to be interesting and allow for interactions with the patrons. You can easily spend a couple hours there without getting bored. And even if you do, you're smack dab in the Pearl, and are surrounded by dozens of shops. Would definitely come back again next year. I anticipate that it will only continue to improve over time.

While we waited for our food, the band personally called us out and thanked us for being there. While that sounds nice in theory, things were starting to feel a little off and forced. When our food arrived we got the smallest bowl of corkscrew pasta I've ever seen. I stopped the server and asked if that was the large portion of pasta and got a weird response about how he used the large portion in the smaller sized bowl, or something, and that he would bring more pasta over. I wish I had taken a picture as proof but honestly I was too hungry to do much else than eat. We commented that the pasta looked like it came from a Whole Foods buffet bar. We also got the Mezze plate (served with flattened toast and hummus, piping hot Kalamatas, hot dates). We also got some cheesy potatoes which tasted like a combination of cooked potatoes with instant mash. When the band finished up they were loudly discussing business and how much money they made. Then they made a point to come over to our table and connect with us directly. We went to the bar to settle up and the bartender asked if we wanted to leave a $15 tip for the band. Being too polite to say anything, we accepted. For some reason they charged and gave us a bottle of mead. The bill ended up being over $100 for honestly one of the weirdest and most uncomfortable dining experiences in Portland. It used to be the Swedish Evangelical Mission Covenant Church. There's some cool millwork, antique light fixtures, and large curved staircases, but overall this is on the tamer side for McMenamins properties. The venue had standing room and high-tops on the same level as the stage. Upstairs is theater style seating that was decently comfortable and had a counter spot to put your drink. There weren't any bad views, and the sound system was better than I expected. I think there are two bars, one on each floor, but the upstairs one was closed for the small event I attended. They serve drinks and small bites, not full meals. Parking is challenging nearby.

The later people came had to stand up on the floor but they came to dance. Listened to Petty Theif...a Tom Petty cover band and had a lot of fun. Pizza, hotdogs, popcorn was the food offering and beer, cider and wine you can eat in your seats with the tables. Got the Mission Theatre stamp for our passport.

FYI: the charcuterie vending machine was temporary, and they are now back to an a la carte charcuterie board menu. I had a tasting flight, and enjoyed the depth of flavors and variety in the wines -- lots of unique and beautiful fruit notes! I ordered the vegan balsamic cheese and OMG!!! Soooo creamy and delicious!! I also ordered the mushroom jerky -- well worth it! It's not as tough as beef jerky, which makes it easier to eat. And the flavor is bomb -- definitely tastes like mushrooms and jerky mixed together. The kind lady working the business on the day we visited gave me extra complimentary crackers and apricots. :) She was absolutely wonderful, and it's safe to say the service here was top notch. It was an unusually cold day in Portland (just after their unprecedented snowstorm this year!), so the seating room was crazy cold. That's my only complaint.
