Amazing. Maybe I should give it 1 star so less people find out about it LOL. My friend who comes to Portland often decided to bring me here and am I glad she did. We went on a random Tuesday night, we are non-members. Luckily we only waited in the bar downstairs for a few min and were able to get 2 seats at the bar upstairs. They have an amazing extensive whiskey library, as stated in the title. We didn't care of any of the cocktails on the menu and the bartender was more than happy to create drinks based on our preference and WOW. We did 2nd cocktails, we did similar but different and again, we were not disappointed. If you have the opportunity, you need to make a trip here. A great speakeasy vibe, romantic for date night or a celebration. 10/10.

Food are delicious Steak is cook to perfection Burger is mouthwatering The seafood soup was okay If your a seafood lover go with the fresh oyster they are delicious You gotta get the whiskey from the whiskey library lol it's in the name of the restaurant so you'll know they have a grand selection Keep in mind the whiskey are strong we had a few and the night was great Ohh definitely try getting the whiskey cake- ask for. It before you finish your meal cause they tend to run out cause yes it's. That GOOD!!! I had to get two Togo cause yes it's was truly amazing. Service was amazing And the ambiance is like a hidden Library in a high end lounge. Super worth coming!!! Oh I think it's membership only so you gotta know someone that have there membership Or try calling ahead for a reservation

A must visit if visiting Portland, Oregon! We got the hall pass which essentially lets you to pick a specific day to enjoy the membership lounge area. I believe there is also an outer green room for non-membership walk-in or ones w/o a hall pass. This leads us to sit at one of the coolest bar section where we were told there are around 2000+ bottles of spirit collections. The menu selections are massive! I'm not a big whiskey person, but I still enjoyed the drinks a lot. My favorite out of the 4 drinks we tried: Halo effect(Irish whiskey, bourbon, milk oolong tee, mango...etc). This place is truly like its name: a true whiskey library.

What a wonderful evening with my best friend and partner celebrating our 10 year anniversary. The team at MWL are professional, polite and welcoming, but also just great people we enjoy having conversations with. They knew us as we walked in and started the evening off wishing us a happy anniversary. The atmosphere is intriguing and contributes to a fun and relaxing evening. The whiskey and scotch list is extensive (did you see my picture of the library)??? The food is good. I would rate it about a 3.5. The service, environment are a strong and solid 4. If you just want to hang out, learn more about spirits or enjoy a meal, you can't go wrong with the MLW bar!

Great bourbons to try in order (left to right).

I love Multnomah! It's the best place in Portland for a great drink and delicious food. It's been 7 years since I've been here and was on my hit list for my bday! I had 3 old fashioned's and ate the deviled eggs, olives and bone barrow garlic bread and nothing disappointed. I was offered 3 types of bourbons with giving the bartender a short list of bourbons I currently drink; trails end, old forester and peerless. All were great and enjoyed them in the order listed above. :) I dig this place not just for its great food and drinks but the staff are always on point, nice, knowledgeable and willing to accommodate you in any way. The over all aesthetic of it being a rustic, dimly lit restaurant but you get a prohibition type of atmosphere about it but from a more upscale point. You just have to go and try it for yourself, it's a great time!

The food here is above average for a whiskey bar. All the food is seasoned. The service is above average for most Whiskey Bars. The ambiance is exceptional. Peace and quiet drinking and talking. Happy to be a member of such a fine establishment.

Apparently there are three different areas to enjoy this beautiful space. If you are without membership, there is the Green Room then an upstairs portion. I entered at the exact time of my reservation and was escorted upstairs with no time in the Green Room. Upstairs I received a complimentary glass of champagne and I stated with a signature old fashioned with Nikka Coffey grain and deviled eggs. Followed by their Bouillabaisse and a second old fashioned with Uncle Nearest. I then requested to seethe Members lounge which is a smaller, yet brighter room. I ended the night with a sorbet and my 2nd old fashioned.

Great atmosphere, great service & delicious food. I would like to thank the waiter (I believe their name was Jackson) who recommended 2 delicious gin based cocktails.

Upon checking-in at The Green Room about 10 minutes early for our Hall Pass reservation, we were immediately greeted by friendly staff. A second friendly employee escorted us the Member's Lounge where we received complimentary sparkling wines. After a short wait, we were escorted (again by friendly staff) to THE Library itself. The library transports you back into a prohibition-era bar/library clad with brick & dark judges-paneled walls. Dim, but ample light, showcase the 2500 bottles of liquor and give a moody & relaxed ambience. Our bartender, Jackson, was amazing! Being whisky newbies, he gladly answered our millions of questions and found us just the right whisky's to enjoy. We had THE BEST time here & look forward to a return trip!

We had a great night at the Multnomah Whiskey library. We started in the library. The space is beautifully decorated with the expansive whiskey bar being the key feature. There is a large wood burning fireplace on one wall. There are also many pictures featuring important names in world whisky history around the room. I liked how the menu gave a small description of each picture. Our server Cody was very knowledgeable and helpful. I ordered the Bouillabaisse. It was cooked to perfection. The mussels and fish were tender and the broth was delicious. We also got the bacon popcorn which was tasty and fun. The whisky cake was very good, moist with a good chocolate flavor and not too sweet. It was a good sized piece and we shared amongst 4 since we were very full. After dinner Cody recommended some good whiskey for a novice like me to try which I enjoyed. After 2 hours we we moved to the members lounge, which is a smaller space with a more limited whiskey selection. The server Jordan was very sweet and helpful. I tried a whisky which I loved thanks to her recommendation. I highly recommend the Multnoma whiskey library, particularly to whisky aficionados.

Best whiskey selection in town. Cozy ambiance. Great suggestions for whiskey from the staff

Stopped in for a nightcap and was told it would be a 2.5 hour wait. Wow! We decided to still put our name down and had a drink at The Green Room which is located right below Multnomah Whiskey Library. We went to a couple of other bars nearby within walking distance when we got the text to return. It was definitely worth the wait! Beautiful decor and ambiance with exceptional bites, craft cocktails, and delightful service. Our server and bartender were so nice and gave us a ton of recommendations when we told them it was our first time visiting Portland. Definitely check this spot out if you have the chance!

    Multnomah's menu

I told the waiter I like High West bourbons, and the waiter recommended a High West bourbon finished in cabernet barrels. I've had a High West barrel finished in Chardonnay barrels for $16 before in Washington state a week prior, but I hadn't had the one finished in cab barrels, which had also been priced for $16 a pour; I was thinking around $17 a pour because the two other High Wests on the Multnomah menu (the only High Wests on the menu, I might add) came out to about $17 on average. When the receipt came, I was billed for $78 a pour, for "Prisoner Share". I asked the waiter about the bill and he stated the "Prisoner Share" was the High West finished in cab sauv. He should have mentioned that the High West I ordered was going to be 4.5x the price than the ones listed on the menu. Overall, a really frustrating experience.

Ask the Community - Multnomah Whiskey Library

How late do they serve food?

I'm pretty sure it is until closing, which is 10 PM. I was there munching popcorn past 9 PM.

Are minors allowed with their parents?

    No minors.

    Is cigar smoking allowed?

    I don't believe so.

Does MWL have Happy Hour? If so, what are the hours?

No happy hour you need to make a reservation to get upstairs into the library

Is this place steam punk? Yelp says it is so it must be.

Uh, not really. It does have a lot of classic brass, which I guess could cross over into steampunk territory. And cool cocktail carts. And tailored vests... but I don't really see any gears... so I wouldn't say it's all that steampunk-y.

What is the wait like without a reservation on a Monday night? Are all nights busy or is it just the weekends?

If you get there when they open they may seat you and tell you how long you can have the space, that's what we did, we didn't have to wait at all.

You cannot miss the oysters here--the granitas they pair with them are an absolute work of art. For the first time, we tried the beef tartare, and they hand-chop the meat right on the spot. The funky richness of the cheese on top was perfectly balanced, and wrapping it in gem lettuce made it such a unique and delicious treat. As for the drinks, every single cocktail we ordered was outstanding. I'm not a big fan of overly sweet drinks, so the 'Mojo Jojo Casa House' at the end was absolutely perfect for my palate. I also loved the 'Brand New Key,' which was packed with fresh tarragon flavor. My husband prefers smoky whiskeys and mezcals, so he ordered along those lines--not exactly my personal style, but he loved them! The ambiance and overall vibe here are unmatched. "Dam Good Whiskey!" -- A Beaver's Review of Westward Distillery…read more Well chew my bark and call me industrious--Westward Distillery has crafted a whiskey so fine it made my tail thump like a drum on spring thaw! I waddled in skeptical. After all, we beavers know a thing or two about craftsmanship: sharp teeth, strong wood, steady paws. But the moment those folks poured me a sample of their American Single Malt, I realized I was in the presence of fellow artisans--humans who build with barley the way I build with birch. The aroma? Like sniffing a warm cedar log at sunset, with a hint of orchard fruit drifting downstream. The taste? Smooth as a freshly planed maple branch, with a delicious grain character that made me contemplate abandoning dam construction to pursue professional sipping full-time. The finish? Long, warm, and rich--lingering like the satisfaction of placing the final stick on a perfectly engineered lodge roof. And don't get me started on the place itself. The distillery is polished, welcoming, and smells pleasantly of oak instead of predators. The staff? Delightful! Not one of them tried to trap me, and they spoke about their whiskey with the passion of creatures who truly love their craft. Westward, my whiskered friends, you have built something remarkable. The decor is lovely-- there are horseshoes all over the walls and the ambiance is very homey/country without feeling too seedy. I ended up ordering the Suzy Parker and the On Brand. Both were lovely. I was surprised I liked the On Brand so much-- I usually kind of hate bourbon but I wanted to try one of the bourbon cocktails since it's their specialty. It was absolutely wonderful-- sweet and sour with just a little bit of the bourbon flavor to round it out. My partner ordered their cocktail of the day, the name of which I can't remember but it was made with a delectably smoke-flavored liquor. To speak about Teardrop Lounge, I should probably start with this:…read more Ladies and gentlemen, I present my favorite cocktail bar. Not the best -- I'm not arrogant enough to claim that. I haven't been to every cocktail bar in Portland, and saying something is the best usually says more about your lack of experience than your conviction. But favorite? That I can stand behind. And I want to get that out of the way early, because of the amount of praise I'm about to pour on this place -- fully earned, completely intentional. The biggest crime here is that I only discovered it two weeks ago, after living in Portland for a year. It had been recommended to me countless times, and I ignored it. A mistake. A painful one. But now that I've found it, I don't plan on making that mistake again. I'm not typically an Old Fashioned drinker. In fact, I usually hate them. But somewhere between curiosity and too many episodes of Mad Men, I decided to try one anyway -- fully expecting to confirm my bias. Instead, it completely flipped me. Bright, almost citrus-forward in a way that felt unusual but entirely intentional. Balanced, smooth, just enough burn to remind you what you're drinking without overwhelming it. It was the first time I actually understood the appeal. I'm pretty sure I grew a few chest hairs that night. That alone would've been impressive. But it didn't stop there. The space is beautiful -- clean, intentional, but not cold. The staff are excellent: personable, engaged, and most importantly, authentic. Not scripted, not performative. The kind of people you actually want to talk to, and hopefully, eventually be on a first-name basis with. Now, all of that gets it close to a perfect score. But what pushes it over the edge -- what makes this place stick -- is the White Russian. One of the first drinks I ever had. My dad's drink. Not because of The Big Lebowski -- that came later -- but because it's just always been his thing. And at some point, it became mine too. Typically, when bars try to "elevate" a White Russian, they ruin it. They overthink it. Swap ingredients, tweak ratios, add unnecessary flair. And more often than not, it ends in disappointment. Teardrop does the opposite. They respect it -- but refine it. The coffee liqueur actually tastes like coffee. The heavy cream is properly integrated, not just dumped on top. The vodka -- whatever they're using -- is clean, present, and perfectly measured. There's a subtle complexity to it without losing what makes the drink what it is. It's the best White Russian I've ever had. No hesitation. I've gone back twice just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. It wasn't. If someone asked me what my death row drink would be -- this specific cocktail, from this specific bar, is in the conversation. Easily. Teardrop Lounge doesn't just make great cocktails. It reminds you why cocktails matter in the first place. And that's why it's my favorite.

Creative without being weird, and strong without being sloppy. What really stood out was the price point. For the quality of cocktails, the prices felt very reasonable compared to similar craft cocktail bars in other cities. The vibe was also great -- relaxed, cozy, and not pretentious. It felt like a place where you could come for a special drink experience without feeling like you had to "perform" or order off a rigid menu. We liked it so much we actually came back a second time during our trip. Highly recommend if you're into well-crafted cocktails, friendly bartenders, and a laid-back but elevated atmosphere.
