Had the cheeseburger with onions. It was very good. They don't skimp on the toppings. My friend has the stirfry and she said it was great. I'd like it to be known that if you're a musician and plan to play here, GET YOUR OWN DOOR PERSON. The establishment provided their own, who let most of the patrons in for free. He cited being worried that if they turn them away for not paying cover, they'd lose potential business. This is all after the bar did absolutely none of the advertising that they had promised to do for the show. After confronting him on this issue, we found that he had later taken it upon himself to reduce the cover fee from $15 to $5 without our consent. At the end of the night, when we asked for our pay, he sheepishly tried to imply that because we didn't pull in that much, we shouldn't get it. I'd like to stress that the waitstaff and bartenders did an excellent job of taking care of us for the night, I can't praise them enough! Clearly the owner doesn't care about screwing over bands and bringing in help that will try to make off with the money on his own. We will never play here again, and I will make sure everyone I know is well aware of the way the talent is treated here. read more

This was one of the worst dinning experiences I've ever had. My gf and I came out for dinner to celebrate a successfully event I had earlier in the day. It started off on a bad note the second we got in the door, with how long it took us to even have a server come to our table. She eventually showed up after about 10 minutes and though her service was pleasant, she was not very attentive and we went long stretches of time without being checked on or having our drinks refilled or food quality checked, despite the floor being relatively empty. It happens, but still frustrating. Things got worse when at a point, some DJ, who must have been part of the make a wish program for he surely can't have been getting paid, considering how god awful his music selection was, how obnoxiously loud the music was and the fact that he felt the need to continuously interrupt whatever song he was playing in order to should something indistinguishable into the mic or use the same cheap effect over and over. Very obnoxious. The icing on the cake, that resulted in us leaving without finishing our meals was when the lights were turned off, despite no one being on the dance floor making it virtually impossible to see the food on my plate or my partner sitting across the table from me 3 feet away. I had to eventually go to the bar and tell the bartender that we were going to leave and wanted our bill and takeout containers as after looking everywhere else saw no trace of our server who had dropped off our food and never reappeared. I'd like to say that I haven't had similar experiences at the Brooklin location, but that wouldn't be true. As a former regular patron I was surprised to see how drastically downhill the service and management at this establishment had gone and warn future guests to rethink giving Whisky John's their patronage if you value your money, time, eardrums or good service. read more

A dive bar. Sometimes that is a good thing, sometimes it's not. I've been here on a number of occasions, and whilst have never felt intimidated, I've never felt welcome. There is a decent selection of draught beers, and the waitress service is generally friendly, although one night my server really was awful! This review is of takeout from Whisky John's through Skip the Dishes. I felt like a nibbles kind of dinner and after perusing skip the dishes, we kept coming back to Whisky Johns and finally decided to order. We ended up ordering the party platter which includes chicken fingers, chicken wings, jalapeno poppers, spring rolls, mozzarella sticks, veggies and garlic bread. We also ordered a slice of their peanut butter fudge brownie cheesecake for dessert. First of all, never have I seen wings THAT BIG. They're GIGANTIC!!!! And they were mighty tasty too! Mozzarella sticks were still stringy even after the trip from the restaurant. Jalapeno poppers were a nice surprise, not too spicy (but with enough kick!), and instead of spring rolls, there was some kind of pizza roll that was delicious! The garlic bread "was garbage" according to my husband, but you can't have high expectations for toasted bread shoved into a takeout container and eaten 30 minutes later. So, more for me :) It was nicely garlicky and did the job, but I think they could make a substitution for takeout orders to improve this particular item. The dessert was TO DIE FOR, by the time I thought to take a picture, it was halfway gone. Definitely make sure you order one of the Peanut Butter Fudge Brownie Cheesecake. YUM. We'll definitely be back to try some other items; they had a wide menu that could accommodate a lot of people. read more

This is that little hole in the wall that you didn't expect to find. I was quite impressed with the size of the building I had no clue that there would be that many seats inside. They have incredible stuff that are so overwhelmed they can't serve everybody that they need to which is why the low review I could not find my waitress the most part because you're so busy with other people. The food was extremely exceptional I was actually quite surprised my husband I waited to eat there and we're going to see a band with friends we know. The Acoustics in the building are incredible so I'm going to assume 99% of the bands that come in sound fantastic. But if you sit next to the stage I will warn you your ears will ring for few days afterwards. Food prices and alcohol prices were very reasonable. read more

i worked here for about 2 months, and took shifts when needed came in early when needed, the servers team was very welcoming and helpful. i have bartender at multiple other bars and have never experienced such disrespect from management. i was not only verbally harassed but sexually harassed by the dj and kitchen staff. (which the dj kept coming) when brought to owners attention I was told I should of told him the day of. Any time I had a concern I was shut down and told to "stop talking" by Ravi the owner I was never able to explain how or why I felt the ways I did because he in reality was meaning "shut up". I was swore at by kitchen staff to hurry up my very first bar close that I wanted to take my time so it was done properly. I do NOT recommend working here as their is no team support. some servers were great others just talked about you behind your back and management set me up for failure and Ravi does not give anyone the chance to talk,and lacks the ability of sympathy. read more

I literally could not comprehend how exactly it took half an hour to get a coke not to mention being told every half hour that our food was coming for it to not show up until 2 and a half hours later! What kind of service is that? I legitimately want to know how hard it was to make an order of wings which by the way was dry and flavourless along with the fries and the wrong dipping sauce they can't tell the difference between dill and ranch completely ruined my friends birthday today! Was there over the weekend and thought I would share my opinion. Not being one to be intimidated I thought perhaps this place has a rougher crowd that hangs out there, so going there with my wife and another couple I was not very impressed. It seems clean and all but not sure if that Was because it seemed like it was reno'd recently. It seemed very bright for a bar. The waitresses tended to be overwhelmed by the regular crowd and put us on the back burner for service wise. The food was mediocre at best. I must say the last time I seen a chicken wing that big it was from a turkey, so not sure what that was about. Then the band came on. Well it advertised a band for 10 pm. So that was fine as we were there at 7:30 for a chitchat and dinner. The band does their set up, kept up with the "check check" for quite a while and then proceeded to play just a couple of songs which were extremely loud for the size of the place and since we were there to chat with our friends it wasn't cool. And it wasn't even 9 at that time. I wouldn't suggest this place to other friends nor would I go back there. Have you seen Bat Rescue, it reminded me of one of the bars that need rescuing. read more

I came here on a Monday at around 4 o'clock, my girlfriend was told about this place by a friend of hers who said it was really good. Upon arrival there were about 15 people in the restaurant, mostly 40-60 some men having some beers! I initially thought all these people at that time of day could be a good thing. The only server working told us we could sit anywhere we want. Although the server was very friendly, everything else from that point forward went down hill. After sitting at the table for close to 10 mins, she came over and apologized and brought 2 menus and asked to take our drink order. My girlfriend wanted a water and I asked for a coke.....only to find out they were out of coke. What restaraunt runs out of coke? I ended up ordering a ice tea which was watered down. I went to open my menu and it was sticky on the front(not even the inside pages) like someone spilled pop on it. Throughout our whole meal there were 3 flys buzzing around constantly landing on food and straws. I proceeded to order the Fish Tacos and Dry Garlic Wings. The fish tacos were decent, although they were sliced fish and chips put inside a pita with coleslaw. And the wings were a good size. The only major benefit was that the wings are $6.99 a lb on Mondays, but that doesn't come with a bone bucket.....so ask for an extra plate. The only thing that MIGHT bring me back was $6.99 wings. Other than that. I wouldn't step close to the front door ever again. read more

Food sucked. Order the whiskey chicken and the chicken parm from skip the dishes and upon arrival visually it wasn't appealing and the taste was dry as the Sahara desert. Surprising considering how well it was rated on Skip the dishes. Absolutely love this bar. I make frequent trips on Tuesday's or Thursday's for their wing nights. The wings are very good and come any way you want them (saucy, dry, traditional or grilled). Beer is always cold and the staff is always friendly. read more
