Stopped by for a drink on Friday night with some friends after dinner at Tamale House, a short walk away. It was loud and crowded, as bars tend to be, but still a pretty cool vibe overall. It didn't take too long to find a table outside, which was less loud and much more chill. There was also a food truck on site. Ordered at the bar; my friend got the seasonal frozen which was a frozen blackberry margarita--very pretty and nicely made (not just slush) but not to my taste. I got a Tito's lemon drop which wasn't bad but I didn't love the bartender's pizazz of adding pepper or something like that. Still drank it but probably wouldn't spend $12 on it again. Overall a cool spot with nothing to complain about! read more

Limited seating inside, with a great outdoor patio. Good place for groups or a date night. We sat in the back patio and had food from golden tiger and a delicious punch bowl from whislers. The bartender was very helpful when choosing drinks, most of which can be made into a punch bowl. read more

Terrible bar service. I've been there twice and both times I've waited in what seemed to be reasonable spots to get service only to have someone walk up and be served before me. Most recently I was skipped twice and the bar tender decided to serve another person before me and the two of them continued on having a nice catchup about the patron's holiday. Will not be going there again. read more

Both their ground-level & elevated, upstairs mezcal bars are worth visiting. The upstairs mezcal bar is a smaller space, more intimate. and some of the coolest bartenders in atx i've met. I've been up there when it's packed like sardines & when there's room to move around, & either experience can be fun depending on your mood. But, either way, whoever is the mezcal bar bartender when you go will be able to steer you in the right direction, even if you know zilch about mezcal or have never tried it. The inside & outdoor spaces with multiple bars that collectively makeup what is Whisler's capture a unique atx aesthetic like none other....and make for a cool experience where you can go back-and-forth & bop between, without having to leave & walk to another bar, wait in line, show your ID, etc....that said, expect it to be busy during prime times. Went here to meet up with a friend because it was their favorite spot in Austin for a drink and hang out. I really wasn't impressed given the hype. The music is blaring which is alright but it was so difficult to hear one another even if you're sitting beside each other. Moreover, the sits are mostly wooden picnic tables with some inside seating. You gotta be okay with sharing your table with strangers and possibly dogs (that's alright but no one picks up after themselves so piles of glassware and food pile up). As for the drinks, the bartenders weren't very accommodating and just made the same 3-4 drinks and gave out beer cans. Could be better. read more

We visited Whisler's during their Mardi Gras party and I LOVED it! I had a hurricane that was more than satisfying, and I definitely only needed one. This is one of our favorite DTD (day-time-drinking) spots on the east side. We like to arrive just after they open so we can score a seat at their rustic bar. At night you will probably be outside which is fine especially if they have a band. The patio is tarped so it is comfortable even during a chilly evening. During Xmas, the bar is decorated and on NYE they had hats, streamers, and other celebratory stuff on the bar and tables to get us in the mood. A single mixologist (not a bartender) was serving up righteous cocktails. We did not opt for one of their specialty cocktails but settled on a dirty martini and an old fashioned. Both were well poured and perfectly concocted. This is a must-stop if you are touring the east side. read more

One would think that the Old Fashioned is a drink that's become so common these days, that people would forget about it and try something new. (fashioned?) Apparently, that's not the case since Whisler's sells 50,000 Old Fashioned cocktails in a year. (thanks Google!) it also came highly recommended by yelp friend Darren W. so that made the decision easy for me. And what a cocktail that was! I'm beginning to really prefer bourbon in my Old Fashioned cocktails (Whisler uses Elijah Craig) and this one is tapered off a bit with demerara sugar. The enticing smell of that orange peel and a single Luxardo maraschino cherry is the icing on the cake. Delicious. Right off the bat, you can tell that Whisler's is a great craft cocktail bar. The seasonal ingredients on the menu (corn, cinnamon, YUM!), fresh juices, efficient bartenders. They do it right over here! The night we came in, we even got free tickets to redeem for one ice cream from the ice cream cart. But I was too distracted drinking (damn you, Negroni!) I forgot to redeem my freebie. This was one of my go-to bars to take visitors in Austin pre-COVID and I am so happy that I have been able to visit now that bars are reopening (safely)! Definitely recommend going after dark because the setting of the inside of the bar is part spooky/part western-y/part old-timey and kinda makes you feel like you could meet a vampire in the corner... but in a cool way! I have had many different drinks from their set menu but admittedly their bartenders know high quality cocktails on and off the menu so order your heart's wishes. Wow! Love the tulum burning man vibes in here! First place I'm truly impressed with in Austin. Yelped this find while on a 30 min wait for 313 pizza. We walked right up to the bar and a bartender asked us for our order immediately, impressive! We travel to Mexico a lot (oaxaca, cdmx) and will always hunt for craft mezcal coctails. Whisler's is a great spot for a local dive bar with a happy hour that will satisfy with plenty of outdoor seating to sit a good amount of people. Went rather early around 4:30-5 and the bar was still buzzing with plenty of people and had a great vibe to it. They have two bars one outside and inside at the time there was only one bar running. You are for sure to meet random people here as you are in tight quarters and can be a great spot if your are single to meet people that are local. The drinks were unique and fantastic I started off with their old fashioned which was strong and you could taste the whiskey for sure. Then got an order of the Paris in Time which featured tequila, honey and lime. The ingredients paired really well together. This was my favorited drink I had and I typical am an old fashioned drinker and is my go to. I also got an order of Confession of An English Opium-Eater which was rum, strawberry, and balsamic. This was a solid drink as well but there I would pick the Paris in time or the Old Fashioned ahead of it to order. This should be an essential place on everybody's place in Austin for drinks great vibe and patio. read more

I visited Whisler's upon my arrival and first time in Austin! It's a cool yet unassuming spot. I like the eclectic decor and people-watching was even more interesting. Despite it being a little slow (it was Sunday evening) it took a while to get the bartender's attention. I ordered an Old Fashioned and despite the wait, it was perfect. I took my drink outside to listen to some live music. I neglected to get the band's name but they were awesome.
