Great breakfast! We walked in and there was a line, that moved so fast! We opted to sit at the bar, no wait. Ordered an omelet, bacon and well done home fries. They were amazing! Please give this place a try if you have not. The food and the service are amazing. The soups and pies are great. The best is the chicken vegetable soup and the blueberry pie...... Won't always wow you, and I'm sure you can probably find slightly cheaper food in the area but this is the kind of local place you want to eat. If you want McDonald's then by all means eat there. If you're willing to pay slightly more for a place with actual service and even God forbid someone cooking in the back, then you'll enjoy it here. read more

They have very little regard for COVID safety. The waitress at the register was wearing this strange mesh fabric that just hung down from her face. It was easily see-through and obviously did little to nothing to qualify as a mask. I was horrified to look into the kitchen after our meal and see that half the people in there weren't wearing their masks properly. One had it hanging off his ear, one had it under his chin, and another man didn't even have one on at all. If they can't even do something as simple as wear a mask properly, how little caution must be going into the safety of making the food other people eat? Especially at a place where elderly people like to eat- you're putting them all at risk. I've seen a couple other reviews with the same concerns and the owner just brushes it off and claims they're following regulations. The health and safety of their customers is clearly not very important to them. read more

Would like to give it a 5 but..... Food is very good, had spinach omelette and pancakes. Yesterday service was great, food served quickly and of generous proportions. Only issue is that while waiting in a relatively small area to be seated no one was wearing a face mask. We were, but no one else. Staff did but customers waiting in a bunch and passing each other in a small entry way to the restaurant did not. Masks should be required in this small space or let people wait outside. We will not be going back until this thing is over or until management opts to better handle those who are waiting in such a small space without masks. read more

My family decided to check out this place when we were traveling to the area. Almost perfect timing we heard a train whistle from the commuter train when we exited our vehicle. The service was wonderful and they were welcoming to our little ones. The breakfast was great! Stuffed French toast piled high with whipped topping and fruit. This place is always has a line outside hot or cold, people wait and now I know why. All my years here and this is the first time me and my wife's stopped in. I am a Chef by trade and I can tell you that rt is place is very great! The servers are always on top of their job. Polite, virtuous and quick. Great food that comes to you quickly! Healthy portions, all fresh and delicious. I don't know anyone there so this is an unbiased report. Hope they don't change owners any time soon. I'm from South Carolina but assigned with defense in Louisville and drove to eat lunch at the Whistle Stop. Pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff. Ordered the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. The country fried steak, fried cornbread and collard greens were outstanding!! Others in my party loved the food and deserts. Prices were very reasonable when one considers the cost of eating out these days at your typical chain restaurants.. will definitely go there again. read more

This is not just a restaurant, this is a family. They treat you and love you like you are one of there own. My family has been going to WS since it opened. We love it. Jody, the new owner is amazing. She goes out of her way to make her customers happy. My father just passed away. He loved " The Whis" is what he called it. I really like how homely it feels. I had the avocado omelette with jalapeños because I just like spicy! I went easy on cheese also! It was awesome and I ate all of it! My friend had the California omelette but I didn't ask her how it was...it was good I guess cos I didn't see anything left on her plate! Service was awesome! Our waitress was warm and attentive! Absolute hidden gem! First of all the name "Whistle Stop Café" had me right away. If you've ever seen the movie Fried Green Tomatoes, you know what I'm talking about. Side note......there's fried green tomatoes on the menu as well. My husband and I were looking for a great place to have breakfast. We're not from the area, so thanks to yelp we found this restaurant. The food is absolutely delicious, our breakfast came out fast and was well priced. I had the avocado toast with scrambled eggs. The best avocado toast I've ever had.The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The cafe was clean and welcoming. We will be coming back whenever we're in town. read more

Stopped in on a late Sunday morning. Place was packed but got seated in 5 min. Food was served quickly and everything was tasty and hot. Biscuits and gravy fantastic - gravy house-made. Great coffee. Only thing that was a little off were the hash browns, as they weren't cooked enough. Should've been more crispy on the outside and fully cooked on the inside. Our server, Stephanie was awesome. This is...how do i put this...the perfect hangover cure restaurant. Food is always incredible, and j can honestly say one of the inly places that has never messed up my orders. The place is packed from open to close(and for good reason) but even when its packed, i always call in my order, they always tell me twenty minutes, and its almost always ready within 15 mins by the time i get there. I had the Twisted Bernise: open-faced English muffin, topped with sausage patty, sliced tomato, scrambled eggs and hollandaise with perfectly cooked, extra crispy, well done hash browns.
