My experience was good. The service was fantastic, the restaurant is a classic diner style with a counter (which I like) and the food was prepared well. My only issue is the breakfast sausage they use. It just wasn't as tasty as some others I've had. I ordered a Sausage and Cheese Skillet so the sausage is a very important component of this dish. I will definitely be back to try some more of the menu offerings. Overall, I would say it was a very nice experience, good food and worthy of the trip. read more

Neat looking restaurant, but won't be back. The breakfast ham was very good, but our food didn't meet our average standards (asked for over medium & crispy bacon, got sunny side up, undercooked and limp). Then the smell from the bathroom traveled throughout the restaurant and it was unbearable. 15 minutes later, it was covered with a fog of floral air fresheners. Not sure if it was a customer mishap in the loo or a sewer problem. Either way, we won't be back. read more

The last time I was here, I was picking eggshell out of my omelette. But I'm an optimist and because I live in a restaurant desert decided to try again. Big mistake! This used to be a great place which you could tell by the long wait on the weekends. Should have taken the fact that there was no wait at 10 o'clock on a Saturday morning as an omen. My coffee smelled odd and requested a replacement only be served coffee with the same smell. It had a chemical smell to it so I opted for water. The entrée itself was mediocre, however it did not seem like it was fresh food. The best part was the 3% they add to your bill when you use a credit card! If you're operating a business and allow the use of credit card transactions you should be fully aware of the cost incurred for the convenience. Passing it onto the customer is not good business practice. So breakfast for a party of five was close to $100 and the meal itself was mediocre at best in an atmosphere filled with annoyed employees who seem bothered at having to work. We won't go back, and you should pass it up too. read more

If i could rate this place 0 stars, I would not hesitate. i ordered some breakfast items to go using their online ordering system - no issues there. I go to pick up, and one female employee is railing into another female employee about an order she made a mistake on - everyone makes mistakes. anyhow, that's what i walk into so that was pretty unprofessional. the one who was getting onto the other one turns around, not friendly at all. I said i'm here for an online order, she sets it on the countertop. the other woman grabs the whipped cream from the small fridge. I say thank you, have a nice day and in the most insincere tone she says "you too." whatever, i get it, she messed up and just got b*tched at so she's probably feeling embarrassed and upset. however, once again, very unprofessional experience. How this place has such good reviews is beyond me, or maybe i just came on a very off day. I don't think so though because the food is NOTHING to write home about. hash-browns had taste and texture of cardboard and i'm not just saying this because the first impression had failed, but because it is simply not good! french toast came with no syrup -- do we have to ask for that? maybe i missed that part. whatever though, syrup probably couldn't have made much of a difference. i wanted to try a different place besides Midwest Breakfast Co. but i made a huge mistake today. Denny's even would've been a better option I think. also, if you're able to leave a tip AFTER you pick up your food, i'd suggest that. First time visit today and was so pleasantly surprised! Restaurant itself is adorable and has a charming, lowkey vibe. But most importantly, the food was absolutely fantastic. We asked our waitress about a few items on the menu and she recommended the Apple Gouda Melt. The bread is an "apple bread" which she explained is like banana bread, but with apples. Blew us away, honestly. We even overheard other diners say that they came back to the restaurant specially because they loved the Apple Gouda Melt so much! This place offers some of theeeee BEST coffee I've ever had in a diner. For real, I almost asked for a cup to go but the place was going off and the servers seemed beyond stretched. Perfect waffle w fresh strawberries (and lots of them) and whipped cream, crispy bacon, eggs over hard cooked exactly the way I love them. I have too many favorites to list. You can't go wrong with anything. But the homemade soups they are out of this world. So even a simple grilled cheese with bacon and a bowl of soup will let you wanting to come back. If you have a large group, make sure to call ahead. Recent transplants from a too-cool Chicago hood to Fox Lake, and this was one of the first places we tried. It's a great little diner, I really liked the train theme straight away and it wasn't dingy or dive-y at all. We were seated very promptly. The place overall runs like a machine even though it was crowded. The food was absolutely top notch diner breakfast food. We lived by a place with a line out the door every weekend morning and the food was nowhere as good as this, and it's so much of a better price for better value here. The server was basically magic, appearing with a coffee refill and such basically the second it dawned on us we may want more something. We will definitely be regulars here. read more

The problem with the food at this location they have cooks that do not properly cook or know how to cook over easy eggs they're always Ronnie, raw eggs, whites, and Another issue is too much oil and or spray and the hashbrowns and eggs.
