No customer service at all, a group of teenage girls working only if absolutely necessary. too busy in their group discussion and were rude to customers if interrupted for basic help like placing order and asking for napkins. Menu makes no sense and when asked about flavors available, the cashier sort of nodded at a separate board on a wall, apparently there is only ONE flavor you can order a day? The ice cream is like any other soft serve ice cream place with toppings and it is VERY expensive. Open 12-9 daily and until 10 on weekends. The custard is made in house. Serving Vanilla, Chocolate and a daily special flavor with a big choice of toppings too. Whit's is very clean and bright when you enter. There is a freezer that is full of delicious looking ice cream sandwiches in a variety of flavors. They also have ice cream cakes and pints of frozen treats to be able to take home. I guess it would be more accurate to say frozen custard instead of ice cream! There are a few tables inside and several tables outside as well. I can imagine parking can get difficult some evenings, but if you wait just a little bit, a space will open up. I have been to Whit's twice, and both times I've received excellent customer service. People behind the counter are very friendly impatient as you sort yourself through their large menu and all the topping options. We stopped at Whit's on a Sunday evening and were able to score the last parking spot in a very small lot. Everyone inside was friendly and quick to get our ice cream cups prepared. What I thought was very cool was that you could not only buy their ice cream in cups to dine-in but they also sold ice cream cakes, sandwiches, pints and even popsicles. There were an array of signature menu items but also the opportunity to build your own and add as many toppings as you want. The only reason they're not getting 5 stars from me is because I felt that with the staffing they had, there was the opportunity for a team member to sweep/tidy up the customer facing areas. I have been looking forward to their opening... and watching their progress. Although they haven't had an "official" grand opening, they are now open. They are located on the corner on the east side of US 1/ Federal Highway. There used to be a pest control company on this corner, years ago. When we stopped by, we could see they are still training staff and getting a few things set up. The menu is basically vanilla or chocolate or the flavor of the day/week. You can have this as a cone or cup of various sizes. Then you can add, if you wish, toppings or mix ins. He got a vanilla -- one scoop -- in a cake cone. I tried their chocolate -- one scoop -- in a cup. Their custard ice cream is rich and creamy. They have indoor and outdoor seating. I'm glad we stopped by. (see the tiny squirt of whipped cream I received on the pic I posted) It left me wondering if I had ordered a sundae and didn't say whipped cream and sprinkles, what would've it been topped with? I didn't even get a cherry. Maybe they should research what constitutes a sundae. It did cost $6.42 and I tipped $1. I was feeling generous, even though they weren't when it came to the whipped cream and charging for basic toppings. Not your Mother's ice cream stand. No, Whits is different. First of all it's frozen custard, not ice cream. The difference is it's made with eggs. The melting point is higher and the product is creamier. Now that we got that out of the way, Whits has a daily, weekly and Monthly special flavor. You can get shakes, sundaes, something called a "whitier" which extras are blended in. Always has vanilla and chocolate asking with the specials but they also freeze previous flavors you can buy by the pint and quart. I tried the Vanilla and it reminded me of the time I was in Tahiti and had locally grown Vanilla ice cream. It's that good. (Ironically I also had a Hawaiian Whittier with pineapple, toasted coconut, Macadamias nuts with Vanilla. It was out of this world! read more
