My wife and I recently visited Matteo's with three other couples. Having been frequent patrons of the Long Island locations, we were excited to try it. While the food was generally good--my veal chop from the prix fixe menu was flavorful, though slightly dry--other dishes were, unfortunately, just average. What truly undermined the evening, however, was the service. Throughout the night, several guests struggled with repeatedly unfilled water glasses and had to ask multiple times for basic items. Our waitress hardly checked in until the end of the meal, with minimal follow-up during dinner. The situation escalated when, after paying, our waitress, Haley B, approached the table in a confrontational manner, questioning me directly--three separate times--about the tip, in front of the entire group. Gratuity should reflect the quality of both service and overall experience; being pressured for a higher tip despite the lack of attention was entirely out of line. To make matters worse, my follow-up call to management was equally disappointing. The response was all talk, no action. Unfortunately, the lack of professionalism left a lasting negative impression. read more

Good family style Italian food. Go with a large party since you share food and you get a variety with more people. We had a large party of 18 and the waiter and his team took good care of us. The only complaint was the noise level. I could talk to the people next to me but not those across the table. Very similar to,388, also in Boca, since they were originally started by the same family. I came here for my birthday and had a really lovely experience overall. We had a reservation on a Saturday night, but it was very loud inside, so we opted to sit outside instead--and I'm so glad we did. The weather was perfect, and they had a beautiful table set for us. They even sprinkled "Happy Birthday" decorations on the table, which was such a thoughtful touch! We started with drinks (Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc for me, Grey Goose martini for my husband). Service was a bit slow at first--drinks and bread took a while--but honestly, we didn't mind much since we were just enjoying being together. For food, we had the Caesar salad with anchovies and croutons on the side (really good), Chicken Peter, lobster ravioli (delicious), and penne alla vodka. Everything was flavorful, and the portions were just right for sharing. For dessert, they asked what I wanted and my family ordered cheesecake. It came out with a big sparkler and they sang Happy Birthday, which I absolutely loved--such a fun and festive moment! The only small downside was that the dessert isn't complimentary, which felt a little unusual for a birthday celebration, but it didn't take away from the experience. Overall, it's definitely on the pricier side, but perfect for special occasions. I'd happily come back again to celebrate! Yes we dine here a lot during the course of a year, hence an update if you will. We had dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant in a town loaded with good Italian restaurants. It was the other night, the restaurant was " packed ", our reservation honored right to the minute, was seated( 6 of us) and let the good times roll. The room was holiday decorated, filled with pretty people. Drinks first ( always). Then we ordered.... Then ate til the serving plates were clean..Followed by coffee , the check and another great night at Matteo's. Oh, we ate baked clams ( a signature dish) , Chopped salad for the table, 2 different pasta dishes( linguine with clams) Cavatelli, chicken francaise and an order of salmon ( delicious). I can't tell you enough that for a large restaurant they do a fabulous job. From Peter to Vinnie, to Luke, to Hugo , thank you for taking good care of us all these years. BRAVO!! read more

We were 4 couples who haven't seen each other for at least 8 months and we were put at a wonderful round table inside. It's a Friday night and the "season is here". The snowbirds are back and the party has begun. The live music is loud and fun and Mario, our waiter is rearing to go and make our experience unforgettable. He is truly adept as he places our drink orders and helps us figure out how much food works for the group because it's family style. In my case, I prefer ordering my own dish because my friends won't eat fish. So Mario made it happen and we paid on our own separate check. The food was fresh and delicious. We all shared the chopped salad and the tartufo for dessert. Next time we hope to get an outside table on the porch because it's a lot quieter and we would be able to talk and hopefully hear each other. The food was mediocre. Most of the 14 guests corroborated except for two who had the Branzino. However, family style dishes should be for at least two adults. There was enough broccoli rabe for one child. Cutting corners is the name of the game at this mass produced Italian eatery. Service was provided with a touch of arrogance. This restaurant has been around for 25 years and I've been around this area for 30 years and I must say this was the first time that I came here we came because it was an anniversary. We wanted to try someplace we hadn't been our friends have been I must say it's a very crowded restaurant. The inside was nicely, decorated with great artwork throughout the walls Indoor outdoor seating and large portions. Great for family style. Everything is large. You could get half salad so we had a half of a chop salad and a half of an artichoke salad we had half of PIETRO pasta a half an order of bake clams, oregano and a half order of AMATRICIANA and a half order of broccoli Rob with zucchini pasta, the zucchini pasta was just OK. I would never order it again but then again I don't eat pasta ama piece of Italian cheesecake I would really like to have fish, but since no one in my table would have fish with me. I couldn't rationalize ordering a piece of fish just for myself. Next time I come I am definitely bringing somebody that likes fish. You can only get a full portion of fish no half portions that's a shame it was a good experience the waiter Michael S was excellent he was professional. We used to go to this restaurant frequently until we stopped due to poor service and appalling attitude by manager. This week we gave it another try as we were with friends who wanted to go. What a pleasant surprise...staff were lovely and attentive. The place is still packed and admittedly, the food is great! Portions were gigantic! Prices were not cheap but the portions were huge. Taste of all the food was five star good. Had chicken parmesan and could not eat half of it. Also had a huge piece of chocolate seven layer cake. Wait service was top notch. Unfortunately, noise level was quite loud. There was no free parking. Had to park on the street. Not very impressed with this restaurant. We got a take out and the customer service was below average, the food was the same. Their dishes are very expensive and they can't even do them right. Pasta Carbonara dish (requested with chicken) costs about 50$ and when we unpacked it at home there was no chicken. Plain and very oily pasta. Too oily actually, not sure if it was oil or butter but it was not good. Steak Ravioli were good therefore two stars. The mushrooms were decent but too much garlic in the sauce and too many bread crumbs on top. When we later asked about the missing chicken for pasta dish, the staff did not care about it. They didn't even apologize just said ok we will give you little money back. So in my opinion too hyped place. read more

After reading a ton of mixed reviews, I was hesitant about my mom's birthday dinner being there last night for a party of 10. I was expecting rude service long wait times for food and not enjoyable experience. All was incorrect. Our dinner was lovely as well as our server. We were greeted and served in a timely manner and everybody enjoyed their food. They had a special prefix menu which included your choice of appetizer entrée dessert, and a drink for $50. Overall, Matteo's is a 7.5/10! The ambiance of the restaurant was great, it had an amazing inside/outside feel, but we personally sat inside. The appetizers were great, and the pasta was amazing. It had a great vibe and it was very busy! It was true italian food. The only thing I would say is that our main entrees took over 45 minutes to arrive before coming. Very disappointing experience. We waited over an hour for our pasta, which is simply unacceptable. The service was inattentive -- we had to ask for utensils, and one of the plates brought to the table was dirty. The outdoor seating was also uncomfortable. It was stuffy and hot, there was an unpleasant smell, and no one even suggested turning on the fans. The food itself was okay, but extremely overpriced for the quality. From the moment we sat down service was very good and the food matched the service. Appetizers Fried calamari which were tender and well seasoned. It came with a flavorful slightly spicy dipping sauce. Eggplant stack, our server cut up pieces of it for our party of 4 and placed them onto our individual plates. Meals Burrata ravioli (a special) creamy tomato pesto based sauce. It was very good but the sauce was super rich. Not an intimate setting, but great for small groups. Tasty bread, served warm. Salad with salami and cheese a nice start. Baked clams were a must have if you like clams. Eggplant parmigiana and chicken parmigiana delicious. Chicken and veggies, with Italian sausage very good too. Shrimp dish had good size shrimp and a tasty sauce. A family-style italian restaurant for a memorable and eventful evening!! A very fun place, with great food compared to other places nearby. Great for small groups, about 3-6, probably is ideal. At a family-style restaurant like this, patrons put a lot of faith into their server to make sure the right amount of food comes out. Our server was wonderful, but because there were so many people in our group, they brought out far too much food. I wish we got to try everything on the menu! The drinks were fine, they have an extensive wine and drink menu to choose from. The clams appetizer was the star of the show, and the veal chop was absolutely excellent. The chicken and the eggplant were both fine. Overall, when it comes to entrees, we loved all of the pasta dishes but the rest were not exactly memorable. The penne vodka was a crowd favorite, and the cavatelli was also loved. In terms of atmosphere, we went on a Friday night, and there was a live singer with batches of songs to sing. It was lovely, but a little loud. It would have been perfect for a group of 3-5, but for a larger get together it was difficult to catch-up. Matteo's What was supposed to be an intimidate dinner, celebrating two friends who had just gotten married, became a loud, obnoxious, messy evening overshadowed by an annoying fire alarm (false alarm, no fire) that wouldn't stop. We found ourselves yelling across the table just to hear each other. Tempted to leave, we decided to stick it out to avoid the headache of having to find somewhere else to eat at the last minute. My husband and I ordered whipped ricotta cheese with truffle honey for an appetizer. There was no trace of honey in it. We then ordered the chicken pizzaiola for our entree. The chicken should've been on a single fork and tossed across the room to knock out the sirens that wouldn't stop. How a thin slice of chicken was that dry and tough, we'll never know. First time eating here with the Ferrari Club. I do understand it was a large group. Orders were taken, and we had asked for more butter for the bread but didn't receive any. We did notice 20 mins later there was a dish of butter down the table so someone did actually did drop it off, just not to us. Food was definitely spotty, half the table was eating, while the other half was politely staring into space...it seems that was with most tables. We were all finished while one table was still on entrees. I asked if the veal chop milanese is served with an arugula tomato salad on top (which has always been the case over the years in many restaurants) he said it does not. I said that's odd as it's pretty standard otherwise it's just a plain breaded veal. He then says it comes w a side of tomatoes and onions, but they can add arugula for an up charge...$60 wasn't enough?!? No thanks...instead I ordered the linguine w white clams. I asked if they were little while clams or chopped. He indicated they were chopped. I did not realize they took big Cherry neck clams and chopped them. It was huge pieces of clams and garlic...disguising! I didn't eat it and the waiter never came back to ask how everything was. My husband ordered the shrimp Luciano which was prepared nicely in a buttery tomato sauce over spinach. The worst dish however was the burnt string beans...wth? They did not look appealing ... they were black, shriveled, dry and nasty! Definitely a dish where it's like oops mom left the string beans in the oven too long and burnt them! Why would anyone ever want to serve and cook them that way on purpose...they belong in the garbage, besides being carcinogenic! I doubt we'll be back. read more

Ending up spending Christmas Day here and certain that was a fantastic decision. Booked for an earlier dinner and the restaurant wasn't overly crowded. Service was impeccable and portions are massive. Yes, I was reminded by other diners beforehand that everything was family style and somehow I forgot. After bread and sharing an appetizer amongst the table I was stuffed to the brim and entering a food coma. Pasta came and I had to have some, delicious, one was better than the next. Just horrible. I went here twice before for holiday party and dinner and those experiences were a bit better. But this year it was bad. The servers have huge attitude problems and seem bothered if you ask anything. They were putting wet plates on the table for dinner. It's ridiculous why anyone would like to come here while there are other places to eat in Boca. The food was below average without any seasoning or taste. I tried the calamari which was dry. The oysters were decent. The salad was pathetic in terms of ingredients within and bland dressing. Eggplant Parmigiana was all bread crumbs. I was given a gift card to Matteo's and finding this gem of a restaurant is a gift in and of itself. The ambiance is like walking into an upscale, elegant, modern art gallery. The hostess was so friendly and brought us to a fabulous table ( there isn't a bad one in the restaurant). The owner (Peter, I think) is very attentive to his guests and goes out of his way to make sure you feel like family. Our waiter Harrison was super professional, enthusiastic, and attentive despite the restaurant being extremely busy on a Monday night. The food was spectacular!!! This brought me back to my family dining experiences with the Italian side of my family. We started with the Grilled Calamari and burnt broccoli i've never had calamari so tender and flavorful without any hint of fishing us. The burn broccoli was delicious as well. For our entrées, we ordered the shrimp oregano to and the bone in Vel chop Marsala. The Bone-in Veal Chop Marsala (as recommended by our waiter Harrison) was the best veal chops we've ever had. The Shrimp Oreganata was absolutely fantastic and the pasta was so delicious and flavorful. We also had an amazing desert that was comprised of puff pastry, cream, and chocolate drizzle topped with almond slivers. We finished the whole thing- this was light and airy and next level.
