5 stars. Yes, I'm giving a fast food establishment 5 stars. If any fast food restaurant deserved 5 stars, it would be this White Castle on Northern and Bell. It could be the melt-in-your-mouth Jalepeno Cheeseburgers, but I think it's more of my memories of this place and to be honest, I've actually never stumbled into this White Castle after a night of boozing - all my memories come completely sober. Reasons why you should go : The most servile and friendly staff I could ever imagine. They will go above and beyond what you need and accommodate you from brewing Sweet Tea to chatting about video games. Another time, they didn't have Pulled Pork Sliders ready and I wasn't willing to wait the full 15 minute for the new batch so I ordered a Jalepeno Cheeseburger (default). The lady decided that wasn't good enough for me, so she made me a double stacked Jalepeno Cheeseburger...with bacon. She served it to me at my table and then COMPLIMENTED ON MY GOLF SHOES. It doesn't get anymore full-service than this. They are always open, literally. I've been to this White Castle for Independence Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Probably been here for Yom Kippur and Good Friday too, but who cares? Nothing is more reassuring to me than the Whisper Lady wishing me a Happy Thanksgiving after a late night of poker with the boys. It reaffirms my degeneration and the familial bond I have with my boys. You are always safe. White Castle has eyes in the sky with the voice of god. Of course, it also sucks when you try to sneak a little slider as a cheat during your diet and your friend catches you after he comes back from a night of drinking. Not real smooth on any accord. I probably come here too often and have too many good times, so here are the actual details people wanted to know: Food: Food is fresh, what can I say? Everything seems to be done on premises. If you need to wash down your slider with anything, I would suggest their Contea Sweet Tea. Contea is better than McDonald's plus they don't shove your cup 80% full of ice. If you're dining in, don't be afraid to ask for a refill and just turn the caldron around and help yourself. For appetizers, get the Fish Nibblers and thank me when the fish juice oozes out at the first bite or get the Cheese Sticks and see how far you can stretch the cheese - a true testament to its freshness. As for their staple, I would suggest Jalepeno Cheeseburgers and regular White Castles. As for regular White Castles, my friend, Keith, likes them with no pickles, but yes pickle juice - I don't know what difference it makes but it always gives me a kick when he gets angry at pickles. Another friend, Garrick, likes the Hash Browns - probably a little oily for my taste (the oil seeped through the carton), but definitely good for skinny guys like GSW. Also, I would suggest you taking your significant other to this restaurant during Valentine's Day. They deck out the place in Valentine's Day decorations and cater full service but menu's the same. My friend, Eric, took his girlfriend and actually recommends it as a good experience. Value: Amazing...plus they have two breakfast sandwiches for $2. Did you know White Castle uses REAL EGGS in their breakfast sandwiches?? Yes, they crack open an egg and fry it on their grill. Same old fashion hamburgers, recipe never changed since I was a kid, just the price! I wanted my son to try White Castle since their burgers are small and soft. He wasn't too crazy about beef when he was a infant but it's slowly starting to grow on him so I'm giving it to him in small bite sizes. After his first slider, he said it was good and asked for more. He ended up eating 4 sliders, some fries and chicken rings. Yes, I gave it a 3 star rating, but you add 1 star if you're drunk off your ass and then add 1 more star if it's after midnight. So under the right circumstances, it has the potential to be a 5 star spot. Keep in mind, these burgers are pretty damn filling. Don't be fooled. I know they're small, but it's deceiving. These burgers are pretty heavy and I don't care how many times you've watched Harold and Kumar. It is just impossible for any 2 human beings to eat as much White Castle as they did at the end of that movie. I don't care if your name is Takeru Kobeyashi, you're not going to down a 30 sack with your drunk friend, who's convinced that in his state of hunger that he can easily inhale 15 belly bombers. WOW! What an experience! I stopped in with a few buddies and got the Crave Case, and let me just say - CRAVE is RIGHT! This Northern Blvd. location has been around forever. I remember eating White Castle burgers here as a kid on my way home from PS 31 (the school down the block). An interesting fact that most people don't know is that this White Castle location actually used to have girls serving food on roller skates. They serve burgers, doubles, fish sandwiches and they're all on the small square bun. This is the most delicious heart attack you could ever have! One of the better White Castles around. Of course the food is delicious, and they never have a problem with me ordering the stuff which is never ready to order, like fish nibblers. The building is still the very cool old style porcelain castle. If you see a line in the drive-thru, I suggest just parking and going in instead, it will be quicker. Be sure to get 2 cups of cheese if you get a sack of fries, a regular rookie mistake! The only downside is there is little seating since they remodeled it several years ago, and any seating tends to strewn with trash. You very rarely have to deal with the weirdo crowd that White Castle usually attracts, like the homeless and old guys who always order coffee at 3am, but that's mostly due to Bayside's demographics. Of course instead you have to deal with the regular demographic found in Bayside, awful drunks due to the proximity to guido bars. You're already on the workers good side if you don't give them a hard time they're used to getting. With that in mind, this is of course the most heavenly stop to make after a night of drinking though, and I have regularly come here completely wasted at 5am, 3am, 1am, every night of the week, and even dressed in full baseball gear during the season. Steamed, soft buns with perfectly melted cheese and a thin juicy layer of meat (I would not consider it a patty). Their fish nibblers are great as well but a tad fishy without the tartar sauce. If you're ever in NYC then this is definitely one of the attractions you MUST experience. There are maybe a total 6 parking spots and if there is a line at the drive through window you might not even be able to pull out of those spots. It's white castle...same as anywhere else. Bad for your body, but good for your soul. It's 3am, and you have the munchies. What do you do? Drunk or not, this place tastes best when nowhere else is open. There's nothing like the aroma of that greasy, oniony slider. When I was a kid, this place was magical even in the daytime. Back then I could put away ten of them easily. Much later on, it took fewer and fewer of the sliders to do their job. Beef and I don't get along anymore, but I rationalize that this isn't really like eating meat and I might sneak one or two into me. I do, however, still enjoy the clam strips, the chicken sandwich (with a solid piece of white meat, it's not a bad choice at all), and even the surprisingly low fat pulled pork sliders. Oh, right, let's not forget the tasty clam strips and the indulgent fries and onion rings. Breakfast is surprisingly good, too. The drive-thru has gotten far more efficient in recent years, as has the overall level of service as this location. It used to be like the DMV, but now you get through pretty quickly. It is theorized that the more alcohol in your system, the better this place tastes. That's true, but having a taste for the greasy stuff (acquired in college) makes this place all too palatable. Legit worst customer service ever!! Everyone in that store has attitude including their so called "manager" JERRY. My husband and I ordered a crave case for pickup on a day they apparently they closed early (11pm). We arrived around 11:10pm and they said they had closed and tried to call us but, we had no missed calls or a VM. So I asked for the manager when Jerry picked up just kept repeating we are closed and we called you. No apologies or anything at all. When I explained to him we had no missed calls, he kept saying we are closed and I saw my staff make a call. So I asked him whats with the attitude and he goes I AM NOT GIVING YOU ATTITUDE YOU THINK THIS IS ATTITUDE. If that isn't attitude then what is it? Anyways 2-3 weeks later I call to see what time they are opened until and a staff picks up with attitude saying they are open til 12am and hangs up. Just a terrible store...
