REFORMER PILATES -- TOTAL BODY BURN -- I really enjoyed the total body burn reformer Pilates class. This is a high-energy class. Traditional Pilates is a low energy class but Reformer Pilates is different. The total body burn is a fast-paced class that moves from one position to the next and works your full body. The class is done on a Reformer machine which has resistance bands incorporated on it for lengthening your arms and legs and building core muscles. As written on the Studio One Pilates website, "Reformer Pilates is a low-impact, full-body workout using a specialized machine (the Reformer) to enhance core strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination through precise movements and mindful breathing." I have been dying to try reformer Pilates and this class made me wish I had started sooner! This studio is so new, very clean, and just very pretty!! Before we started the instructor did a little crash course on what the reformer was and parts we'll be using and needed to know! I took a classic Pilates class (again because it was my first time) - perfect for a beginner, I could follow and understand what was happening and what to do, yet it was still challenging enough to where I felt a pretty good workout!! (Don't forget your grippy socks!!! If you do though, they sell some in store!!) They do have their prices posted on their app, but here are a few: - First timer $35 for 2 classes - Drop in class $35 Monthly Memberships: - $115 for 4 classes - $164 for 6 classes - $215 for 8 classes - $255 for 10 classes - $355 for 31classes (Basically the more you buy the cheaper the classes are!!) You can also just buy class packs instead for a monthly membership ranging from $135 for 5 classes all the way to $390 for 15 classes They even offer private classes (approx 1 private class for $85) All in all I think this was such a fun and wonderful experience!! I had been going to Yoga Roots for 7-8 years and often purchased annual passes. This past year, I…read moresustained an injury and was unable to attend yoga. I contacted Yoga Roots to ask for a partial refund or some other negotiated solution to this problem, and I included a letter from my doctor. It was also under the recommendation by my physical therapist that I avoid yoga. I needed to contact them a few times to get a response. They finally suggested that I wait until I was recovered and they could extend my pass. However, when I contacted them a while later about this, they--once again--did not respond. One would think that since I had been going to the studio for 7-8 years, that they would be more interested in resolving this issue, but it became obvious they were not. If you are considering them as your yoga studio, you may want to ask them what their policy is for unforeseen accidents and medical issues. You may also want to reflect on the ethics of a business you choose to support. Yoga Roots has some wonderful teachers, but because of my recent experience, I could never recommend them.

Coming off a long illness and series of abdominal surgeries, I have been anxious about getting back into exercise and yoga seemed to me like a nice, gentle way to get back into shape. So, my experience at Yoga Roots has so far spanned their selection of more gentle class offerings: - Slow Flow: The most vigorous of the classes I tried, this seems like it covers most of the bases of a regular vinyasa class, just slowed down somewhat in pace. - Basics: Slightly less rigorous than the Slow Flow, a good way to get acquainted with the poses and how the classes run. - Yin: My favorite so far; this class focuses on releasing deep tissue and ligaments - which is exactly what I need. I'd go to this class every day if it were offered! - Restorative: The most gentle of all; poses are lying down and utilize gravity to achieve a deep, slow stretch. Because I am so out of shape, I was relieved to find this studio to have a welcoming and non-judgmental vibe across all four of those classes and with all of the instructors I have so far encountered. In every class there is a deliberate emphasis on working at your own pace and doing what feels best for your body. With that attitude, I look forward to using Yoga Roots as a resource as I make my own progress back to wellness.

I wanted to unwind so booked the Soft Aerial Yoga class with Samantha Sycz. It was indeed soft. Very slow. Like just hanging out in a hammock. So when I was face down in the hammock, I had to take off my BRAND-new glasses--first pair in three years, bought in California. Welp, Sam full-on stepped on them. I heard the crunch. WTF. One arm was at a 45-degree angle. I tried to keep my zen and continue. Could not. Sam told me to go to the front desk. Halle gave me that saccharine-sweet runaround that drives me NUTS, insisting on my phone number and refusing to take any responsibility, saying I would hear the next day. "But pleeeease text me when you get home safely." Um, okay, not necessary. Let's deal with the glasses. I then got an incredibly long gaslighting email about how it was my fault and they would take no responsibility. Said Sam haaad to come over to correct my hands in an inversion so really it was necessary for her to crunch my glasses. Thing is, that isn't even when it happened. The inversion happened after, and it was the point at which I left. I was doing virtually nothing when it actually happened. (That's kinda the class btw.) That all was bad enough. To add insult to injury, I came in on a rainy Saturday morning because I'd already booked the body sculpt class. They checked me in. But as I went to enter the class, Halle came at me all saccharine again. She told me to LEAVE. She had my phone number because of her incredible concern for me (eyes rolling back in my head) yet did not text me to tell this. ClassPass showed I was registered, yet in another longwinded email sent a few hours earlier that Saturday morning (because everyone checks their email and junk mail before a Saturday morning workout lol) they said they had taken me out of class. They didn't, obviously. So I wasted my Saturday morning and lost my ClassPass credits and they lied some more. They had me drive down in the rain to take their lame ass class after breaking my brand-new glasses for nothing. It's all on me!! Not very zen of them, but we know how karma works. I wish the photo of my smashed new glasses would upload. Use your imagination.

After trying my first class with Zosimo in Woodmere (and having him be respectful and kind towards limitations) I felt confident to come back and try Shaker Heights. I did a class with Jessica and she was beyond helpful. I arrived early and she was sweet enough to help me set up my bike and answer several questions. She was a great instructor and really loves what she does! Overall, the facility is generally bigger and sparklier because it's so new! I also appreciate that you get to choose your bike of choice when signing up for your class online. The bike assignments are also posted on the class door so there shouldn't be any confusion upon arriving. Towels are provided (another amen!) which is incredibly helpful because you WILL SWEAT. There are also lots of lockers and cubbies to store your crap while you're cycling your heart out. Highly recommend you give this great workout studio a try.

I was looking for a new hot yoga studio on the west side of Cleveland since it is closer to where I live, and came across Inner Bliss on the Mindbody app. The drop in classes are $20 but the 5 class pass is $68, and the price discrepancy convinced me to buy a 5 class pass even though I had never been to the studio before. Luckily, I made the right decision! I'm a fan of the Hot Power Flow Yoga classes here (my favorite instructor is Sally!) They are challenging enough where it feels like a good workout, but the environment is still a safe space so I don't feel judged if I need to take a break. Some hot yoga classes I have been to focus too much on hitting specific poses/binds/balances that aren't conducive to all experience levels, but I haven't run into that problem at Inner Bliss. I will definitely be repurchasing more classes after my 5 class pass is used up.
