Ate breakfast here on a Tuesday a little bit after 7:30 AM. There was only one couple there during that time and two more people came while we were there. Vintage Hole in the wall small restaurant that gives you grandma vibes. Food was cooked pretty quickly, less than 10 minutes. We had the two egg classic combo with added cheese to the eggs and pancake deluxe. There was a little up charge for the cheese ($0.70) and adding rye toast ($0.80 for 2 slices). With one coffee and tax, our total bill came out to be $28.62. Bacon came with both dishes, were crispy. Hashbrowns were almost like mashed potatoes with some crispy. I requested medium cooked eggs and my eggs were a little bit too runny, which is not a big deal. Eggs and hashbrowns tasted like they were cooked with margarine, which I didn't like very much. Pancakes were fine. It was a nice touch that they warmed up the maple syrup (plastic bottle). Kim, our waitress was very nice, which made our morning visit pleasant. After living in wilmington for several years I finally tried this old school diner. I wasn't expecting anything special, just hole in the wall, greasy flavorful food with hole in the wall type of prices. I was pretty disappointed. My meal came to $22. I had the biscuits with sausage, egg and gravy, side of smoked sausage and a coffee. That side of smoked sausage was $6 and I got 1 small split link and it was room temp when it got to the table. The gravy was flavorless, sausage seemed to be frozen patties which is whatever. But for the price? Honestly they should be ashamed of themselves lol and it was all served on paper plates and styrofoam cups. Like what I am an avid breakfast person- I go out often. Probably 2-3x a week. So I've been to many spots in wilmington. The prices here for paper plate frozen breakfast is the same as a fresh, great tasting breakfast at blueberry grill near the beach. That's crazy right? When I asked the lady if paper plates were used everyday she said I should have read the sign on the door. She was a little rude about it but I don't expect the kindest person working a register at a diner like this. Turns out there is a paper plate taped to the door that says "serving on paper plates" $22 breakfast for 1 person to be served on a paper plate I'm a fool for sure. With the high ratings, I really expected some awesome food and to find my hole in the wall diner I miss so much from my days in chicago, but this wasn't it. Maybe today was a miss, but I won't be going back. Only leaving this review cause im truly astounded by the high ratings and maybe this review will save someone expecting "hole in the wall" prices and flavor from being just as disappointed. If you're looking for great wilmington breakfast- don't come here. I'm not really a brunch person. I'd much prefer something likely to stick to your ribs. White Front is an ole' style diner, right down to the pleated aluminum backsplash. DH and I snagged a booth (there are only 7 in the entire place), but there are also stools around a long countertop. The servers are fast and full of personality. There are also tons of regulars; about 97 passed through during our visit. If we lived nearby we'd be regulars too. read more

Wow, what a treat! A step back in time to the local neighborhood eateries! Felt like home walking in. Felt like home as I perused the menu. All sorts of great southern type food. First thing I noticed was the biscuits and gravy and I had to order that! The country platter: 2 scrambled eggs, biscuits (grilled) and gravy, and a choice of grits or hash browns. Not too long to wait on Saturday morning. It's definitely a dive that could use an uplift and deep clean. Buy they usually have the best food and it did not disappoint. A little short staffed. So a little slow, but not bad. I enjoyed the Greek omelet add mushrooms. My husband had the sausage and cheese omelet. The Greek omelet had tge perfect ratio of addition to eggs. White Front is as others have mentioned - old school breakfast done right! Yeah kind of between a diner and counter service. The place gets pretty busy and tables and counter space are first come first serve. Probably not a good place if you have more than four people as the booths are pretty snug. The kitchen/grill area is open, so it does get pretty hot in here - I was tucked in a corner and felt like my face was going to melt off. Love the vintage menu graphics on the walls behind the counters. "Make it a King Size!" The food was very good - everything came out pretty quick and the orders even with special requests were all correct. The omelets here are the way to go! The biscuits and gravy are solid but not the best I've ever had. So if you want a tasty quick breakfast and perhaps feel like you've gone back in time to when there were way more neighborhood grills like this one, you just might dig this place. When I first came to Wilmington my wife took me here. I fell in love with the place instantly. I discovered grits in this place waaaaaay back in 2014 (give me a break, I'm British!) and what better backdrop than a living time capsule? A nice small, but friendly place that harks back to a time before the big corporate soulless chains muscled in. I often have a tastebud tug-of-war between their classic breakfast items as it is cooked really well and good value for money or their Ruben sandwich. The Ruben sandwich is really nice. Good quality meat. Sauerkraut is on point and don't forget the crinkle cut fries which we always get extra crispy. Nice place with no frills. Their food and service speaks for itself. Friendly, welcoming staff that hit the right balance between attentive and leaving you to enjoy the food & company. Once upon a time, the only option to eat out was places like these. Businesses built from the ground up. No franchise funding. Just hard work and doing the simple stuff right which makes it a regular place for us. read more

I visited this place yesterday for brunch with family. While it is a very tiny place, the menu is certainly bigger than I thought it'd be! There are they typical eggs, french toast, and omelettes. They also have breakfast sandwiches and lots of sides. Prices are very reasonable. Lunch options are also available, but who wants lunch when you can have brunch? Inside their is a long bar where people can sit and order, and about 6 booths for groups of 4 or less to sit. Luckily, we got there as a table had left, so we grabbed the last available booth. There were two waitresses who were working the entire restaurant. They were very good, nice and sweet, and dressed in the Christmas spirit. They said they were down and waitress, as well as a cook. Our food did take longer than expected to come out for an omelette, egg sandwich, and eggs sunny side up, but, like I said, they were short a cook. The food itself was good, as I devoured my make my own omelette with spinach, mushrooms, and bacon. The hasbrowns were interesting. I'll try to describe them. They weren't shredded, they had more potato than that. It was almost like they were tator tots that they smashed up. They still had a crispy outside. My biscuits didn't look very good, but they were actually light and fluffy. Overall, this place is fine if you want a simple, no fuss breakfast. read more

White Front Breakfast House is a nice treat in the heart of Wilmington. Stopped by for the first time this morning with my son, for a casual, diner-style Sunday breakfast. I work in the downtown area often, pass by this quaint diner all of the time & it is always busy. Well...it was time for the early bird to get the worm this morning with no wait. Nice. FOOD: I ordered the recommended "Poorman's Benedict" (Poorman's Benedict $7.95 Two patty sausages and two eggs on an open faced biscuit, topped with sausage gravy and served with hash browns or grits). I opted for the hashbrowns w/ onions added, & my eggs served over medium, underneath the blanket of southern gravy. It was good. Real good, in fact. The gravy was fresh, had just the right amount of spice to give it a small "kick" but not too spicy. The sausage patties underneath were seasoned the same way. Not sure what sausage they're using, but it works. The eggs were cooked perfectly & once the knife was used to cut through the yolk, down the center...wonderful yellow goodness flowed at a medium pace, not too runny. Well done. The hashbrowns were tasty & the sauteed onions were a nice additional flavor. But...although I enjoy some "crunch" and "crispiness" to my hashbrowns, these seemed to have been cooked a minute or 2 too long for my liking. The hash browns weren't 100% dry, they weren't semi-moist either. I ended up mixing my gravy from the Benedict into my hash browns and that made a nice difference. SCORE: 4 STARS! SERVICE: Colleen was a breath of fresh air. Full of energy, friendly & just being herself, you could tell. No artificial persona with this lady. :) She was fast, efficient & genuine. Nice job. My only suggestion or recommendation as an opportunity for improvement would be to disclose any & all possible charges related to a refill for certain beverages, upfront. My young son and I, both, ordered cool, refreshing milk to wash down our southern goodness & my son ordered a 2nd cup later on. Milk is one of those beverages that rides a fine, grey line with some restaurants. Most restaurants do charge another full price, but some I have dined in have offered 1 free additional refill, but only 1. I wasn't informed upfront whether it was another full charge, received the bill & I had $8 worth of charges for 3 glasses of milk ($2.49 per milk + tax). Ouch :( Other than this, service was very good. SCORE: 3.9 STARS! OVERALL SCORE: WFBH is incredibly good if you want some southern fare served up with a smile! Wonderful gravy, well-cooked eggs, served up fresh and hot. But...for a breakfast of 2, in which one was a 10 year-old boy, $31 after tip is a bit steep...even if it was that good. IF...I decide to come back, I'll order water instead & spare myself one-third of my next bill. SCORE: 3.9 STARS!! read more

Hello. First time in here today. My rating is related to the food and service only. I had corn beef hash, eggs and hash browns. All was very tasty. On another note, one of the waitresses had a meltdown and was cussing and screaming at customers and staff. One of the customers left after getting into a screaming match with her and didn't eat their food. Somehow a glass or two was broken during this outburst. The waitress was sent to the back to calm down, came back out ready to fight the customer she was screaming at. That customer would have whipped her behind. I think the waitress was sent home. My wife and I stopped in before heading home from a weekend in Wilmington. What a neighborhood classic! The interior was a piece of history, the employees were passionate about their work, and every customer but us seemed to live within walking distance. I had the pancake deluxe breakfast and my wife the poor man's benedict. Both were fantastic but the standout was the cook on her eggs. The yolk just oozed out into the biscuit gravy.
