This year was mine to plan and we had a GREAT time! We LOVED the cabin and its proximity to Main Street. I will be releasing a YouTube video to my travel channel in the coming weeks covering our stay at Barons Creekside Rhine Falls Swiss Cabin and weekend in Fredericksburg. You can catch it here: https://youtube.com/@adventureswithmrhayes?si=Mi8ZSXvLpW7Nelzi Update: March 9, 2026 The first of the video series went live this past Saturday. After finding a couple of places closed, we called Barons Creekside. Best thing we ever did! We spoke to Lasca, who was actually out with her family for dinner Despite this, she got us set up in the cutest farmhouse, gave us directions and instructions to get in, and after her dinner was over, she stopped by to check if we needed anything. The excellent service did did not stop there. We were treated like family, and we really enjoyed walking the beautiful, scenic grounds and hanging out at "The Club" on property! Next time we go to Fredericksburg, we know where we will stay - at Barons Creekside!

You approach the resort by dirt roads, but they are well maintained and no problem for our sedan. The Tesla nav system was accurate. We had no problems getting there and back. Kelly and Brian are excellent hosts. Brian can regale you with many anecdotes from Central Texas history, most of which I had not heard before, even though we've lived in the Lone Star State for 38 years. Our room was quiet, cool, and comfortable. The lobby is also quiet and is a great place to sit and read. There are two very sweet dogs that have the run of the place. We had a lot of fun interacting with them. You can walk the grounds and along the dirt roads with nearly zero traffic. I do recommend sturdy hiking boots, as cockleburrs are plentiful. There are also venomous snakes in this area, although we did not see any. Better safe than sorry. We will certainly return. I'm thinking March or April will be perfect to catch the wildflowers and get in before the summer heat. Please the attached photo captions for additional comments.

We really only heard traffic during the day, it was pretty quiet at night, and day traffic didn't bother us. We stayed in Winterberry, and we sat on the cute porch in the evening with citronella (my boyfriend is a mosquito magnet, lol) and lightning bugs. The bed was a little more firm than we were expecting, but we still slept fine. I should also preface that we sleep with a box fan on low for white noise. We were there during the week so there wasn't really any noise from other guests, only a few people were there. I will make note that you can see straight down into Winterberry from the door of the second floor cabin next door. We forgot to tell Debbie, the manager, about that, but it can easily be fixed with a simple window covering. There was no one in that room while we were there so it wasn't a big deal. Debbie was truly delightful, very sweet. She brought the biscuit basket we ordered for our final morning. The biscuits were really very good, they come in the cutest setup, with the biscuits sitting on a bread warmer. Great experience overall. If we vacation in Fredericksburg again, we will definitely stay here.

I believe there's over 500 animals here, which is insane! For the drive thru safari specifically, the animals will come to your car and you have the opportunity to get up close and personal to them. If you have food, they are very assertive in getting some and may get food and spit in your car, so be prepared for that. The animals that came up to our car included deer, ostriches, alpacas, moose, and zebras. Outside of the drive thru safari, they also have a petting zoo. They have capybaras here (which I'm a big fan of) so we also paid to see and pet them! Overall, a super fun experience if you're an animal lover. The tickets are also pretty affordable which is another plus.

The staff was friendly, the petting zoo was a hit, the safari tour was fantastic, and, honestly, how many places let you kiss a camel? Definitely a memorable experience! We stayed in Cabin 8, which sleeps up to eight people and has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a nice deck, and a grill out front. The cabin overlooks the goat pasture, and behind that is the emu nursery and the kangaroos, which kept everyone entertained. The pool was great for cooling off, and the fishing pond next to the goats gave us one more reason to stay outside and enjoy the beautiful setting. Now...about those beds. Let's just say the camels were probably more comfortable. The cabin has four double beds (two in each bedroom), and they won the award for "Most Likely to Make You Miss Home." By the second night, family members voluntarily chose to sleep in the car--which, surprisingly, became the luxury suite. We even promoted one of the kids to the couch so an adult could enjoy the "extra" bed. Unfortunately, it wasn't much of an upgrade. Beds were, lumpy, bumpy and short. The adults in our group ranged from 155-185 pounds, and we all agreed the mattresses had seen better decades. Would we come back? Absolutely! The animals, staff, activities, and beautiful setting made for an unforgettable family getaway. We just hope the next time we visit; the beds have had their own safari adventure--to the mattress recycling center!
