The downtown La Jolla location is my favorite WHBM location in San Diego by far. I love it because: 1) It never gets that busy so you get more personalized attention than the other locations. Each trip here is a shopping EXPERIENCE as the workers bring you items they recommend based on ones you have picked out. You never feel rushed or limited. One time, they even brought me water! 2) The dressing rooms are positively glamorous with their chandelier-like lighting, bright mirrors and tall curtains. I've been to other WHBM locations where it is pitch black inside the fitting rooms as if you were at Hollister! I don't get it! 3) This location tends to have more smaller sizes than the other stores. Perfect for me because WHBM's size 00 and 0 fit me so well! 4) WHBM products in general are high quality especially if you're looking for a black or white staple like work pants or a suit jacket to last through the years! The dresses are first rate like no other store as they are literally heavy with all the quality material and lining! Regular prices are a bit expensive but absolutely worth it (plus there are plenty of sales and markdown opportunities). read more

WHBM is my favorite clothing store. The clothes here are very cute and classy. They can be pricey, however, they always have a sale rack in the back of the store along with some sale items in the front entry way. They also have promotions throughout the year. If you sign up as a Black Book Member, you always get 5% off your purchase which can be used in conjunction with other coupons that you receive either via email or mail. The service here has always been great. I have had personal styling sessions, which just means they put aside clothes for you prior to your appointment based on what you are looking for and what you have previously purchased. I've always had great luck with finding cute outfits here. With coupons and sales, you can get a great deal on high quality clothes. They also have jewelry and some shoes. There is more of a selection online, but I like being able to try on my clothes before you buy. (Although, you can return to the store.) Tip: If a regular priced item is unavailable in your size at the store (they do carry XXS and 00 in most items), they can order it for you and have it shipped to your house. This is a busy part of La Jolla and only street parking is available. Park a few blocks away and walk over; it isn't too far. read more

When wandering aimlessly through the streets of La Jolla this is one of my usual stops. I love the clothing not only for work but also for the cute little cocktail and summer dresses. I also have a pretty good collection of accessories I have purchased from here. Cute, bold and fun. The women that work here are friendly and more then happy to assist you with any needs. I am greeted as soon as I walk in with a warm smile and I like that they provide me with their name just in case I need help. It's the personal touches that I like. They are very sincere. This visit they did not have my size so I was offered to have them order my size and have it shipped either to the store or my work/home. Shopping on-line is very user friendly even for me. I'm not one that usually makes on-line purchases. In the past I was in a bind and needed an outfit for an event on short notice. I was able to have it expressed delivered to my destination. The outfit actually made it to my hotel before I even arrived. When I checked in the package was waiting for me. I just wish this store sold the pants in tall length for me. The best White House Black Market Store I've ever been too! The staff is over the top friendly and incredibly helpful. It's impossible to walk out of this store empty handed. I have purchased two of my most favorite summer dresses from this particular store. I've had the dresses for quite a while and they still look as good as they did when I first purchased them. I would totally recommend this store to anyone who wants to look their best. This store has a little bit of everything. Who doesn't love white and black. I can't rave enough about the staff here! They could tell I wasn't happy with how everything I was trying on didn't fit right. The ladies jumped right in and started bringing me options to fit my body type. They could have given up after I had turned down just about everything they brought to me but were determined to find me the perfect outfit for my anniversary. Last night I was in the La Jolla store to return an item and I was completely ignored because the sales associate was on her cell phone pacing the store right in front of me, pretending not to see me. There was one other sales lady in the store, but she couldn't do a return so I had to wait for lady to get off the phone. So unprofessional! She didn't even acknowledg me even after the other sales lady was trying to get her attention to help me. She just rudely told associate she was on the phone with her manager and rudely held up her index finger with a bad attidude. I'm a local so they have lost my business forever! I even said to lady on phone "excuse me how much longer will you be on the phone?" Again, I was ignored. read more

I stop by her every so often to find a pretty top or dress for a wedding. It's classy but also stylish. And I can go her with my mom when she visits and we both can find a few new wardrobe staples to satisfy our wants. I love this store. As you can tell by the name, they have mostly white and black clothes, though recently they've been branching out with tan and grey. I come to this store when I need a dress, because their dresses are really pretty. If you need a little black dress, come here!! They have lots of different styles, and lots of nice jewelry to add that accessorizing touch. love love love love love this store. the idea is simple. black and white clothing. every girl needs the basic black dress, or the cute black and white top with matching accessories. i would always come here and pretend that i could afford something in here. even with the prices i give this place five stars. i finally got the chance to buy something here when my bf's sister got married and thus had a black and white wedding. she bought her bridesmaid's dresses here so she got a bunch of discount coupons for future use. so we went shopping together and found the most perfectest dress ever. a classic cream colored strapless dress with black trim. sooo cute. it was $128 and i was still in love. the dress made an absolute splash at the wedding, (literally, i spilled crap on it and now it's ruined, but i still keep it because i love it). this place has the cutest outfits and essential pieces. i heard there are some up here in the bay area and i can't wait to go! but this la jolla location will always have a special place in my heart. read more

This used to be one of my favorite stores. I have never had a problem with the clothing or the material until just recently. I bought a pair of nice black ankle pants ($89.00) and wore them once. When I washed them, they came out with little fuzz balls all over them. I could not believe it, so I went back to the store and told them what happened. The women told me there is nothing I can do about that and that was it. I could not believe the lack of customer service or genuineness. I will never waste my money on this store again after such a horrible experience over a pair of pants. They lost a customer for life. If you are planning on buying a nice pair of pants, I suggest you don't waste your money because if something happens to them, they will tell you it's not their fault. read more

All I can say is I normally hate to shop because I can't seem to find anything that I feel really comfortable wearing that is fashionable but not cheesy. This year I went on my 50th birthday and was helped by Teresa and have never been happier with my purchases! I spent way more than I normally spend, but i absolutely LOVE everything Teresa put me in and I wear every single piece regularly. I went back the next month and bought more stuff that I absolutely love. Teresa put me in clothes that I would have never picked out myself, but they are so ME when i wear them! I was in a crunch for time to find a cute black dress to chaperone a prom. I only had a pocket space of 1 and half hours. Thank goodness for the White and Black Store. I walked in and didn't know how to manage my shopping. One of the girls asked if I needed help. I told her my criteria and she was on it! The girl pulled 2 dresses for me. Unfortunately the dress was not for me, but I looked around. Two girls ended up helping me out and were super sweet and very helpful. I walked out really excited about the dress that they picked out! I got so many compliments from people that night about my new dress. The dress was $98. They gave me some recommendations for belts and accessories. I had a great shopping experience and was happy to support my local town instead of driving all the way downtown or to Fashion Valley. I would absolutely recommend their stylist, Desiree to anyone looking for style advice. Her exemplary service and the quality of the product make it a great experience. I have pieces from the store at the Forum that are 15 years old that I still wear to this day. Even though I live in North San Diego County, I ventured down to your La Jolla store to meet with Desiree because she really takes the time to find out what works best for your form and situation. Desiree helped me find suits that will help me in my professional life and even was able to recommend a very cute black dress for an evening party at my boss' house. My boss kept asking me if I changed my hair but it was the cute black dress that fit me well that really made my look stand out. I felt comfortable and felt like I looked good. I will always go to Desiree for styling advice in the future and I highly recommend her expertise to all of my friends and colleagues. read more
