I am obsessed with jackets. It happens when you're a girl who gets cold easily. In the winter I'm cold outside and in the summer I'm cold inside. I wish to live in a hut somewhere but unfortunately, aside from drug cartels, there are no well paying jobs near those. Not being a girl who's prone to wearing hoodies outside of the gym, I am always on the lookout for the perfect jacket. Flattering, functional, lined (because unlined jackets? Eww), and well constructed. I had gone years without ever stepping foot in one of these stores. I had some prejudices against them. Prejudices that went from one extreme to the other. For many years, I thought the clothes were geared more towards 60 yr old women. Then somehow, I found myself assuming they were ultra trendy (tacky) and I am a girl who loves modern classic style. But, ever since I sadly left my all-time favorite jacket in the Zurich airport, I find myself walking into every store, looking for something I love just as much. I love mixing classic styles with pieces that are anything but classic. Staple pieces that can be mixed together with trendy, arty, urban, bohemian, tomboy, punk, mod or any other type. --Classics keep you looking respectable while the paired pieces show off your personality and help give you originality. This store is full of well made, classic pieces that still have a modern edge to them. Contrary to my previous beliefs, you won't walk out looking like Joan Collins or the clearance racks at Kohls. After shopping here a few times and walking out feeling like the experiences were successful, this will be a "regular" for me. To Note: While I find their clothing to be worthy of my debit card, their shoes look and feel cheap. I once purchased a pair during a shoe emergency and I've never worn them since --and have no plans to. A waste considering they were more than $100. They felt like they could have been purchased at Target. WHBM, you need to improve your shoe selection. read more

I can't pretend I fully comprehend their concept, even though I am fond of clothes that are black and/or white. But wait,...apparently it's okay to introduce one more color, but only one, per article of clothing. Is that how it goes? I don't know. I remember the first time I saw my first BH/WM about 10 years ago. I liked their stuff,...I just couldn't understand how or why they came up with their color rules. After limiting color choices, they further limit the shopper by not offering many different products. The store is smallish and my whole confusion of the concept makes me feel out of place. I imagine that everyone else, employees and other customers, can tell I don't really belong. I awkwardly walk around just enough to avoid drawing attention to myself, anf then I feel completely relieved when I finally high-tail it out of there. This little boutique has really trendy work clothes. Everything is very "business casual." I like the style of their clothing and it is pretty unique. They have a good selection and the prices are pretty reasonable for some quality clothing. read more

Yep, it's all black, white, or black and white. Some jeans and shoes, a few purses. Nothing all that special, and not a great addition to the existing block of women's clothing stores stores which include Coldwater Creek, J. Jill and Ann Taylor Loft. Prices were reasonable, and I could see perhaps buying a couple things that I would wear to work but nowhere else, but that's not how I like to shop for office clothes either. I went in search of a black bridesmaid's dress for my sister's wedding this September. She's being very cool and asking us to get any fairly formal black dress we feel comfortable in. I see on the website for this store they have a bridal line, but the staff person I talked to today either didn't know that or forgot, so it's by accident that I found out. read more

I just recently moved to Naperville and as I was stressing over some work attire I needed - I was recommended White House Black Market. It was the first time I had ever heard of this store. As soon as I walked in Jackie introduced herself and offered her assistance. Right away I got a sense of relief and just trusted her from the beginning. She helped me pair up different outfits that she thought would go great with my body shape and was there for me from beginning to end. I ended up with two AMAZING outfits and some jewelry that I am so grateful for because she truly made me feel like one of the prettiest at my work conference and filled me with confidence. I've been shopping here for close to 20 years. It's been my go to place for everything from casual to dress, for personal and for gifts. I have always been happy with my experience when shopping here as the employees have been helpful and warm. Yesterday, I went in to return a few items that didn't fit as I had placed an online order for them. I was also looking to exchange a couple tops I received as gifts. There was no gift receipt. I'm sure just as I've done before, forgotten to get a gift receipt, and so did the gift giver. The manager of the store said there was nothing they could do without a receipt. I said that they used to and she replied that was before the influx of theft. I was stunned. I felt like she was saying I had stolen the tops. All is was looking for was store credit, not cash back. I am calling corporate about this and will no longer shop at this WHBM. read more

This store is more pricey than I usually go for, and probably for a more mature customer. But during my last couple visits, I'd found quite a few items that I needed. My favorite was these nylons with a black seam in back. I'd been looking everywhere for that style. So I bought 2 pairs and let the super friendly sales ladies sign me up for their catalog. Ever since that, I've been receiving coupons and lusting over this item or that and reminding myself "oh, sure it's expensive...but it's great quality so it's an investment..." With a "formal" wedding approaching, I stopped in today hoping to find the perfect little black dress that I'll wear multiple ways and accessorize in magical ways. I'd wear it dressy. I'd throw on a jean jacket and wear it casual. It'd be an "investment...." not just the wedding. No such thing happened. I managed to work my way from the front of the store to the back and back to the middle of the store without being greeted. There were 2 sales associates working behind the desk, giggling and talking away, not helping any customer at all. They were obviously just too busy to offer basic customer service. Even as I looked at the jewelry display right across from them and explained to my shopping companion exactly what I needed, they could've cared less. Finally after I had worked my way back to the middle of the store, I was greeted by a lady who had seemingly rushed out from the fitting room. She was obviously busy and grabbing items off the racks, but she still made time to greet us and asked if we were finding what we were looking for. I simply told her I had been looking but I was finished now. Why should the busy sales associate, who already running around helping people, have to be the one who helps, when there are 2 seemingly able bodied associates just gabbing away?! Irksome. I've usually received amazing customer service at all the WHNM stores I've visited. I may try again to find the little black dress of my dreams at WHBM, but most likely not at this location. read more

Overdue feedback for Rasvea Coleman (sp?) Had wonderful service in a bad situation. I had bought a gift card to WHBM for my sister. After giving it to her at a restaurant, she discover it was lost or stolen from our table. I went to the store a few days later to see what i could do. Since i had linked the gift card to my sister's rewards account (at the suggestion of the store associate when i bought the card -thank you!) Ms. Coleman was able to void the original gift card and have a new one mailed to my sister. Awesome assistance and great feature of the rewards program. read more

I am bumping this up a star because I went there a few nights ago to make an exchange and I got there about 10 minutes before they closed and I was the only person in the store and they were obviously trying to close but I had to try on 2 dresses. Then when I had to exchange stuff, it was kind of difficult, they ended up needing to call the online office or something but anyway, both the manager and the salesgirl were really nice about it the whole time. If I could give this specific location zero stars I would. The first time I was in the store the sales people seemed helpful but became very pushy by the ned of my trip trying to talk me into things that I did not need. The last time I went to the store was to make a return and I encountered one of the worst customer service experiences of my life. The staff were rude, not helpful at all, and very stuck up, especially an older lady with short brown hair (assuming she was the manager). Granted my return was not the easiest (I had lost my debit card that I made the purchase with) but the rude way they talked to me and handled the situation was ridiculous. They insisted the only thing that they could do for me was give me store credit or take a risk and return it and the money may or may not get refunded to me and then it would be "too bad". I ended up leaving WITH the item I had wanted to return and going to the Wheaton location. The Wheaton location was the exact opposite the sales lady was super friendly and very helpful and accomodating. I told the woman the situation right away and she said "no problem all we have to do was call the financial institution", which she helped me do from the stores phone. I was able to return the item with ease and the credit was in my account the same day. If you like the store White House Black Market and live in the Naperville area I would advise you to drive a few extra miles to the Wheaton location for a more friendly and overall better shopping experience. read more
