I loved Rachael's class! Not only was it a good workout but I left feeling motivated and inspired…read more Rachael is a great instructor and brings a lot of positive energy to the class. The studio is clean and the decor is pretty too.

What a great place - full of fun and interesting instructors and kick-ass workouts. You can pretty…read moremuch choose your own playlist by examining the music each instructor will be playing for their class (they advertise well in advance, and some have "themes" - like country or Britney Spears Dance-off!). The crowd is 95% female, but don't let that dissuade you if you aren't - it's a very welcoming group of students (and teachers). I felt like I fit in right away and am glad to add my yang to the yin. If you don't know anything about cycling (like me, at first), they will go over how to set up your bike. And, if you forget, they will more than happily go over it with you the next (or next, or next) time. You will get a great workout, listen to some awesome music and be in a community full of friendly people. What more could you want? Only drawback is that classes fill up QUICKLY, so you may have to reserve well in advance - and they do have a penalty if you don't "unreserve" within a set amount of time (I think 10 hours, and it definitely isn't enough time as a lot can happen within 10 hours). But that's the only negative in a vast ocean of positives.

So I would like to update this review because there have been significant changes over at…read moreBarsculpt. I was a long-term customer there, with a regular weekly schedule and LOVED the class itself and my usual instructor. The owner very recently downsized to a small studio which made for some really inconvenient changes that are really hard to ignore. The first is parking, the old location had a decent amount available, but the new space in the State Theatre building does make it challenging if you're commuting. The second is the price hike. I used to get my 5 class pass for barre only for $55, which was a steal. Totally would have been okay with a reasonable update to align with competitors but it was hiked to $100 for a 5 class pass, which is really unreasonable in my opinion. Granted this price includes reformer and barre, but for someone who doesn't do reformer classes it's definitely not worth it. The last piece is the class times. They used to have a wide variety and I always had at least 4-6 people in my 5:30p classes. The new space only has classes until 12-12:30 which is truly not helpful for people with jobs! Overall, still a huge fan of barsculpt as a class but not a fan of the new space or business practices.

I like this place so much I bought a gift certificate for a friend so she could join me. She now goes as much as I do. She LOVES it. Confession: for a long time, I did not exercise (other than walking everywhere) because I found it boring. The workouts at Barsculpt always change. It is truly never the same thing twice. It's always a challenge. Going to Barscuplt not only help me get in the best shape of my life, it has help me calm down, feel centered, and more connected to the community of Portland. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

I've been taking classes at Studio Fit for a little over a year and this is truly my happy place…read more My schedule is so hectic, but I try to never miss the Saturday morning class. It allows me to check out and just dance in the moment. Studio Fit offers classes 7 days of the week at the very affordable price of $10. Susan (and all of the instructors) are super high energy and so great. There's a good variety of music and steps that are challenging yet easy to follow. Everyone is so encouraging and I never feel silly or out of place like I do at the gym. BONUS: The class on the last Saturday of the month is 90 minutes. Yay! I've taken many zumba classes and this is the first one that truly feels like a community. Every class feels new and fun and I always walk away feeling like I've had a really great workout with some really great people. If you are looking for a fun way to get moving, this is definitely it.

I'll admit it - I have no dance skills. None. I even have to concentrate so as not to trip while…read morewalking as the coordination sometimes isn't there. Despite all that, however, I just can't get enough of Zumba at Studio Fit Maine. After months of going to the gym and seeing no physical improvement, I decided that I needed to do something more energetic and fun. The gym was always a chore - a punishment, even - and I wanted to find some sort of physical activity that was motivating and, most of all, that I enjoyed doing. That's where Studio Fit came in. Owned by a wonderful lady named Susan (who is also a killer Zumba instructor), I decided to give it a whirl...and it was one of the best decisions I've made! Zumba is total cardio that leaves you sweating and out of breath, but it's SO MUCH FUN! Like most people out there, I thought I was going to die five minutes in, but sure enough, I got the hang of it, moved at my own pace, and had a blast. No one caress that your hair is a mess, that your shirt is soaked in sweat, and that you look like a goof ball trying to do these suave Ricky Martin dance moves. All anybody at Studio Fit Maine cares about is that you're having fun. Susan is one of the most energetic people I've ever seen - she is motivating and you can tell she is having fun. She is great at showing you the steps, telling you how you can adjust them for your ability, and then motivating you to keep going through the end of the song! I've also taken classes with Allison and she's a great instructor, as well (and funny, to boot). What I love most about Studio Fit Maine, though, is that there is no judgment. Whether you're a size 2 or a size 20, you can go and have fun without feeling insecure. The Zumba classes are only $5 each and you can just walk in. They also offer Zumba Gold for older adults and Bokwa, as well. Forget the gym and give Zumba at Studio Fit Maine a try!
