A beautiful beach or viewpoint that the locals enjoy. The San Pedrians call this Beach ROYAL PALMS, most residents in San Pedro never knew they added White Point as some locals have said it's probably a racial thing. The entrance fee is $6.00 One way no returns. The view from above Royal Palms is beautiful. We drove down, parked, and had lunch with an awesome view of some surfers, and, as I was told, on occasion you'll see some seals on the rocks. After having lunch we went for a walk, a hidden treasure in this town. Royal Palms has public restrooms and plenty of parking. Come and enjoy the beautiful view. read more

I needed to get away and just zone out and relax. I stumbled upon this beach while searching on yelp and it proved to be the perfect spot to stare out at the surf and allow my brain to become a mellow mush. There is plenty of parking but you need to pay to drive down the hill to park along the beach (amount varies depending on the day of the week and season. On this day it was $6). It's mostly a rocky beach area with tide pools. But don't grab any marine critters unless you have a license to do so. Aside from being a great place to decompress, it's also a great place to take photos or watch a sunset. read more

I love this little spot at the beach. It's great pretty much at any time of day to go look for different shells and the hermit crabs, and if you're lucky, a big crab. There are a few spots to park for free up top and walk down the driveway to the beach. But if you're up for it and have a big family, you can pay the $10 to drive closer and park. Plenty of people are there to picnic and play in the tide pools. It's a perfect spot for a nice little afternoon. read more

What a fantastic beach! I was looking for somewhere to do a mermaid photo shoot and luckily was pointed in the direction of this scenic beach, with easy parking ($3 entry, although you can walk down but it is a heck of a long uphill walk back out!). It is rocky, not much sand, but it it is beautiful. We were there for golden hour and got some great photos using different parts of the beach, and used rock with the spray coming up behind for some action shots too. It is a little rustic with lots of concrete and iron jutting about, but it is popular with fishermen, families playing on the beach, couples sitting watching the sunset and lol quite a few folks hot boxing with wacky backy too. We were getting high just walking past them :? Wildlife pops up in the form of dolphins arcing their way by, and an island full of pelicans who rise up into the air in a squadron to patrol the bay. Lots of shells for the avid collector and tide pools full of tiny sea creatures to wonder at too. There are toilet blocks further along on the top of the cliffs out of the beach along with a play area and places to watch the sunset. I would definitely recommend this as a nice scenic place for a sunset walk. read more

Great beach area for spotting marine life and having a picnic. My husbands parents live near this beach so we've been coming here for years. It never seems to be crowded with plenty of parking. It used to be free but like everything nowadays you need to pay. There's historical plaques worth reading and the views whether from the beach or top are very beautiful. read more

Beautiful views, sound of crashing waves, plenty of paid parking...beautiful way to spend a Friday afternoon on a sunny December SoCal day. This review is for White Point Park (though you would use the same parking lot to walk to Royal Palms). There is a nice green park with a children's playground to the north of the beach, with some street parking and a parking lot (free on weekdays). However, if you want to go to the beach, you have to take a private road down a couple of stories. At the top, there is a small station that is sometimes manned, and where you can pay $6 for a all-day pass (otherwise you would just pay at the digital pay stations below). I suppose you could try to park on top and walk down, but there was no pedestrian path that we could see. Once below, there are many parking spots on both the West and East side of the paved road. The West side has a permanent set of bathrooms and parking spaces where you can back in and have unobstructed views of the ocean from the comfort of your vehicle. Or you could park and go on foot to visit the Royal Palms Beach We chose to go and park on the East end, where this is a large tide pool. You can again park really close to the shore line and there are Porta-Potties here. Verizon cell reception was really good here (vs being very spotty at the center of the park). It's all rocks here, no sand (we really noticed this when we got home later and realized that we didn't need to take a shower to remove any blowing sand from our clothes). We came at noon, and the tide was still covering the tide pools, but realized how shallow it was when a fisherwomen slowly walked across to fish from the high rock formation on the other side of the pool. By 2:00, the tide had left and the tide pool was accessible for all, with families with children exploring what had been left behind. Even though there were sea gulls around (looking for food, natural or otherwise), there wasn't much debris or decay, resulting in a very CLEAN smelling breezes (no salt in the air though which I missed). Both ends have permanent lifeguard stations, but there was no-one swimming and neither was manned. It was an idyllic scene, reminding me a lot of Hawaii (especially with the volcanic rock formation in view). read more

I'm just in awe at the amazing rock formations at this beach! The staircase down is definitely sketchy! The beach and tide pools are NOT HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE! The stairs are wobbly and one of the steps I wouldn't even step on. But if you are pretty sure footed, the short paved walk down to the staircase will get you down to this beautiful rock tide pool wonderland filled with sea anemone, hermit crabs and the occasional sea star. The views are beautiful! There is no sand. It's all rocks, so don't think you are going to lay down on a sandy beach and play with kids. And I'm sure the types play a big roll on when you can and cannot visit. However... the grassy area up top is inviting. There are a bunch of giant palm and fig trees. Lots of very friendly ground squirrels. And even the bathroom was clean and stocked (shocking to me). But it was the weekday. Street parking is free. I did not see a parking lot. I would love to come back when it's warmer with a body board and just wade around in the calm waters. Maybe even bring a mask and some flippers. Just a fun stop. Happy we got to see it on suck a clear and calm day. read more

Since the 90's I have been indulging in this not so secret location. If you love the outdoors, nature, history, hiking, sunsets, tidepools. This would be the place for you to visit. Abundant of typical marine life in great health, plus sun warmed wading pools with sandy floors for the kids to splash in. Plus gorgeous scenery, many pelicans, Catalina in the distance, large ships passing, and a sighting of a zeppelin, which apparently moors nearby. I come here for hiking steep hill if you walk up and the occasional I wanna be a big child and enjoy the view a little too close at times where I end up getting soaked as like today. I often come here and photograph there are Only a few remnants remain today of the White Point Hot Spring Hotel resort and spa. Jose Sepulveda also had built a terrazo dance floor surrounded by stone fireplaces and carved stone benches, some of which still survive today. Besides the rich history the views are breathtaking. Read about the sad history, too. Farms and businesses owned by Japanese Americans, seized by the government in 1942 when they were interred in camps. Four stars because a bathroom is important and they only have portapotties here and I'm not a fan of those. Parking is kinda pricey ($10) considering we didn't stay more than 2 hours. We came for the tide pools. There was not too much to see. There are a lot of hermit crabs and some fish but nothing really special. The coolest thing was seeing a beautiful conch shell (it had a snail inside or I would have taken it home). We came on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty packed. Lots of people were fishing and hunting for abalone. The waves were soaking people when it hit up against the rocks. It mostly seems like a beach for kids cause it is safe and they can dig and look at rocks. read more

I didn't even know this lovely beach was nearby, but glad I came. The next time I come, I just need to make sure it's not during high tide, so I can enjoy the tide pools, along with all the ocean life others have experienced. I'm going to focus on the beach section of this area in this review. To get here, what you do as you drive down off of the main street and what you'll find are long parking lots going off to your right and to your left. There is really a lot of parking here. This parking is not free, however, but it is fairly easy to pay for parking. You simply have to go to one of the well marked parking kiosks and pay either with cash or credit card. Once that's all taken care of, you can enjoy your beach experience. The coastline here is very beautiful. It has large rock formations as well as it has a lot of beautiful small rocks and shells lining the sand. It really depends when you come here as to whether or not you can walk out on the rocks however. If the tide is in, it's nearly impossible to get out onto these rocks. If the tide is out, then it is very easy to walk out into the rock formations and enjoy the tide pools and the other ocean amenities. This beach area is really a great place for recreation. It's a great place to walk, play in the waves, and for the more advanced snorkeler, even snorkeling. Overall, this area is a true Southern California gem that is very easy to get to but few people actually know about. Mostly, it is just the locals that come here.It is really a very beautiful ocean location where you can really take in the California ocean scape. read more

Really like White Point & Royal Palms County Beach... especially exploring the tide pools early in the morning. Once the evening comes around, the Pacific will have blanketed all of the areas that you were able to walk around freely - and potentially without getting your feet wet - while examining all the natural wildlife. Holding me back from 5 stars is the sad fact that some people don't have the heart to pick up after themselves. Some others are picking up mussels, oysters, urchins, and so on. Come on humans... A game warden was going around counting clams in buckets. I didn't see a single abalone or sea star. Now I think I understand why. Pack it in, pack it out. If you must harvest mussels and whatever else, buy a license and know the limits. Otherwise you might be made an example of. No one likes that. I suggest parking down by the beach area. It's $10 from 6AM to close during the summer. I revisited this beach recently on a sunnier day. Still magnificent views and tide pools. They now had me pay by a booth at the top of the hill before you go down, $6 flat rate on a weekday. They said they don't want people using the meters anymore. There were porta-potties down below and 2 sinks, though only one worked. Beautiful beach as ever to look at tide pools or watch the water splash along the rocks. Tip: Bring water shoes and something to protect your phone. Enjoy! read more

This beach is a great place for a family outing, where the bluff portion of has metered parking, ample restrooms, children's play area, picnic tables, and outstanding panoramic views that include Catalina Island. Benches shaded by palm trees make this spot perfect for picnics, and the area itself is great for fishing, surfing, and scuba diving, though swimming is not recommended due to the rocky shore. With over a mile and a half of rocky beach, thirty acres of park area, this beach is the hidden gems in the area. read more

Peace and serenity is what I feel when I'm here. The view the sound the smell. Nothing tops the smell of the ocean air with the breeze blowing and the sounds of the waves crashing. Often times you will spot dolphins and once in awhile you'll notice a whales blowhole far in the distance. I come here to clear my mind. Eat lunch with a view. 4/6/2019 A gorgeous beach filled with massive tide pools and a lot of rocks!! Bring water shoes or comfortable sneaker!! This beach has little to no sand but plenty of rocks. The tide was low when we came and the water was clear to see the hermit crabs, coral reefs, etc. Parking is limited and cost $8.00. I love this place... been going here for years, from late Friday night parties that were held in my teenage / high school years, to surfin' the right side break back in the day, (pretty much takes a straight south swell to really go off), to stopping at Busy Bee, grabbing a sammie, and relaxing in the car while eating, it's so relaxing. I like that they use the pay per parking kiosks now, (as opposed to the parking attendant they used to have at the top of the hill). You can hike around the west point and explore the tidepools at low tide and in the late fall, winter and early spring months, catch some pretty epic sunsets to go itch your Catalina Island view. East point serves the same purpose, but we rarely go that direction. A great place to clear your head... read more

I used to live in SP for years & enjoyed the tide pools for their natural beauty & fascination with the sea life. There are tide pools dotted up and down the beautiful SP coastline all along Paseo del Mar. This was my first time being down in the tide pools since after the landslide . We came today for a friends wedding . We had a gorgeous day , the view stunning & temps just perfect . We left without disturbing anything! Do's & Don'ts: I see all these photos of people picking up rocks shells & sea life! WTH?? You are supposed to LOOK -DO NOT TOUCH or TAKE ANYTHING !! These are natural tide pools, not the aquarium of the pacific. These "creatures" are live and you can promote disease amongst the sea life & yourself. Same goes if you visit a forest or other nature preserve . Do not feed the birds bread . This is not their normal diet. Leave nothing but a foot print take nothing but a photograph . Ok, before I go off into my spiel about this hidden gem, you have to read the history!!! I never knew it existed and I had to go see what was over there, I was so glad I did!! And as one reviewer on here mentioned, the title here on Yelp reviews is incorrect, it's suppose to be White Point/Royal Palms County Beach, I'll also drop a note to Yelp. (**Eek! Yelp changed it! yay!) Do you want to walk on rocks over the tide pools? You'll see crabs, sea snails, among other marine life, depends if their hiding. Pelicans, sea gulls & other beautiful sea birds flying or preying on the water seeking food. Do you want a mini ass kicker of a workout?..Emphasis mini, but it will work you out, park by the park/picnic tables or street and coming walking down the hill onto the beach & when your down enjoying the stroll & gorgeous view, you can walk right back up the nice slow & somewhat steep incline. (there is also a man made shortcut trail on the side, which I did & felt like Rocky Balboa jumping up & down after I did it). I can only imagine the surfers love it & I don't blame them & all the locals wanting their paradise to be a kept secret. A nice quiet place to air your mind out, especially if your going through a lot of turmoil, just come here and soak up the ocean air and you'll feel better w/out smoking a doobie or drinking like a pig. (although to some that sounds better, I'm not judging or condoning, just observation) All I'm saying is, other than this review, I'm not telling my people about this spot. And I/we definitely will keep the respect while we come visit. There are parking lots available both upper & lower level, but you can also park in the street for free. There are cats living there among the rocks next to the concrete, I'm guilty too, when I saw them, I went back to the car & grabbed treats I had bought for my own furry feline/piggy. It was overcast, foggy at times, so we didn't get the chance to see Catalina Island or any other views but a couple boats. Also saw few people fishing on the rocks, couple scuba divers & a little family of acrobats diving & flipping in the water further out. Lifeguard is there on watch from his vehicle and did shout out to a some people, one of which was a mother w/her baby strapped to her back walking onto the larger rocks further out towards the shore, not a smart thing to do. Definitely coming back, I saw the Yelp pics & missed out seeing the outdoor dance floor with the Fireplace, still standing today & remains of concrete walls from when it was Hotel resort & also because it's probably one of the few best places (near the ocean) to get away from the rat race and indulge in. read more

I've been going to White Point for 56 years and I have never paid a penny to go here and now they are charging 6 bucks on weekdays, what the heck happened? It use to be much more private and I do see more people. Also I don't remember ever seeing police down there and I saw 2 cops on ATV's. It's a beautiful place! I just hope this don't mean the place is going to crap and the ghetto crowd is taking this place over, be a damn shame. It didn't totally seem that way when I was there but charging and cops down there I don't know? I can't believe I don't see more complaining about this! I also didn't realize this was controlled by the County of Los Angeles, that right there is the number one problem in and of itself. Some new LA politician likely trying to do something decided to charge people. The locals should be fuming I'd think, I know I'm not happy. read more
