Turkey Berry sandwich with homemade pickles. Wonderful!
Ellen K.

Only downside is if you are physically disabled, the bathroom is outside, down the parking lot to the back of the building, off the alley. It is definitely not wheelchair accessible. So go before/after. BUT, definitely come here to eat!!! Small menu but so much work & care goes into each dish! Turkey Berry sandwich was fantastic as was the Beet salad and the Suger Pea salad! The mandarin oranges in the beet salad were a wonderful pleasant surprise: I'm going to start adding them to mine! The black sesame dressing was delicious & lite and more savory but a bit too much oil. Friend liked her lemon bar which had a perfect shortbread base with a nice thick layer of sweet tart lemon filling. I had the best Key Lime cheesecake bar! Again nice graham cracker base, nice thick layer of cheesecake filling topped with the perfect layer of tart Key lime. They have their own small parking lot on the west side of the building, which I GREATLY appreciated not having to pay for parking! The Morracan chicken smelled heavenly! And several other salads looked so fresh!

My family and I stopped in here after driving along the Columbia Gorge. This place is like a cafe and market in one. They mainly sell hot and cold sandwiches and also have roast chicken and a few other hot foods. You order and find a seat, where they bring you your meal and then you bus your own table. I had the Turkey Berry sandwich, hubby got the Ham & Brie panini, and my kids got the Spicy Pork sandwich, burrito, and gluten free grilled cheese kids meal (the kids meal was a lone little sandwich with no sides, so that was kind of a pathetic looking kids meal. Overall the quality of the food was tasty and fresh, but nothing mind blowing.

Delicious, healthy food! We ate everything so quickly, I have no pictures of my lunch! Body's Kitchen has soups, salads, sandwiches and hot food items like chicken enchiladas and roasted chicken. You can mix and match all sorts of combinations to create your meal. Plus a freezer full of food you can buy and heat up at home. After a gorgeous scenic ride along the WA side of the Columbia, and shopping in some of my favorite boutiques, (have to support local business, right?) we were quite ravenous but didn't want to waste any of this sunny, blue sky day by sitting inside or at a more formal restaurant. While passing Boda's Kitchen, right in the middle of town on Oak Street, the intoxicating aroma lured us in. After checking everything out in both the market area and the deli case, I went for a piece of lemon & herb roasted chicken with a side of quinoa salad and a side of brussel sprouts. Let's just say, I made a fabulous choice! The chicken was perfectly roasted with crispy skin and juicy, flavorful meat. The quinoa salad had chopped zucchini and sweet potatoes and maybe kale, all dressed in a lovely vinaigrette. Bright and fresh. The brussel sprouts, once only seen in Thanksgiving tables and now available everywhere, all year long, we're the star of the show! Roasted and dressed in a sweet and savory glaze, they were perfectly caramelized. I could eat a bowl of these and be satisfied! This is fresh food, made from high quality ingredients, cooked perfectly, served with a smile! You can't go wrong here! Next time I will try their roasted beat salad and maybe one of their sandwiches. The chicken salad with grapes and walnuts looked so good! You can purchase chips, cookies and brownies, and beverages from the case. I chose a hard dry cider and we sat out front and ate, actually devoured, our lunch in the fresh air and sunshine. Felt so good to have a sense of normalcy during these crazy Covid times! The lunch was so filling and satisfying, we didn't eat dinner. Boda's Kitchen is a high end deli without the high end prices or attitude! Wish they had a second location in Portland! But I venture to Hood River frequently and now I have a favorite go to spot for lunch!

Stopped in for lunch. The paninis (hot Italian and Cubano) were fabulous. Great flavors and plenty of food. For me the garlic mashed potatoes did not have enough flavor. Service was not welcoming, but was efficient. Interesting that I asked if they could include forks with our to go order and the server said "it's in the bag" and even though we ordered two paninis, a medium side serving and there were two of us she only gave us one fork??

Ok guys, my apologies for lack of manners and not sharing the picture of my very tasty Northwest Salad prior to scarfing it down. The crunch from the hazelnuts and creamy house balsamic vinaigrette is what makes this salad for me. I got the side size and it was the perfect size for a late lunch/snack. Not only was there food delicious but incredibly easy to order online with curbside pick up. If you are able to order online then they still got your cover in a very COVID 19 safe way with a couple outdoor seats, order at the door, little to no contact ordering situation. I also want to give a shout out to their consistent efforts to reduce plastic waste by providing wooden utensils and recycled certified green to go containers. Way to help us eat on the go and not feel guilty about the waste consumed from plastics. If you are looking for something a bit more filling their rotisserie chicken is also aaaamazing! Boda's is always a solid downtown Hood River go to! Thanks

We've been here twice, both times to grab sandwiches after a morning of hiking in the Gorge…read more They have a pretty big menu and offer options with soups, salads, and sandwiches, which I love! You order at the counter and they bring it out to you. The dining space is bright with tons of seating. I love that they make their own bread!! It's super soft and such a nice touch. I usually go with the turkey which has turkey, white cheddar, tomato, pickles, onion, lettuce, and hot mustard. It was a bit spicier than I would have liked, not that it was too hot, but that flavor was really dominant for me so I'd probably modify it a bit in the future or just build my own . My daughter loved her ham sandwich which comes with sprouts, avocado, and cucumber. My husband also really liked his Italian and their clam chowder. This place is definitely worth a stop if you are hungry in the Gorge!

Quite a bad visit, with one caveat. Upon entering we went…read moreto the counter to order, looking forward to the good food we've had here a few times. First impression, the young woman at the counter was not welcoming or even friendly, yet physically pushed the tip jar towards my husband as he was preparing to run his card. Never a good look. Next, our waffle and sandwich arrive. Both have been great on other visits, this time drastically different. The egg sandwich was almost flavorless, but our waffle was an epic fail. It seemed quite pale when he set it down, but starving I cut off a large bite immediately, only to find out what raw sourdough tastes like...and it's not pleasant. My husband took it back up to the counter, receiving no regrets & no letting us know they'd get another started. We finished our coffees and sandwich and waited; after 15 minutes he went back to peek in the kitchen at which point an employee walked to the iron and out it came. Only this time it wasn't just extra crunchy, it was so overcooked there was no longer a center. Both still hungry, my husband washed down about 1/3 of the 2nd waffle and we headed out...again, still hungry. Luckily the one positive, I'd ordered a cinnamon roll to-go with our order to enjoy later and it was very good. We hadn't been here since they'd done a remodel and the place was clean and looked good, but service needed way more than a little work on our visit.

Rosauer's is the most upscale supermarket in Hood River. I love their selection of products…read more The price tags are slightly on the higher side for certain items, but are more or less comparable with Safeway, overall. Their bakery, deli, and pastries are slightly better than the competition, and their natural/health food section is much more modern/comprehensive. From the bakery, I recently had one of their "Persian" donuts, which was basically a frosted cinnamon roll, and it was really good. This afternoon, I ordered a custom sandwich from their deli, and it was amazing. While this wasn't the very best grocery store sandwich I've ever had in my life, it was probably one of the top five. I ordered Black Forest Ham and Swiss on Sourdough with chipotle ranch (instead of mayo) and all the veggies except jalapenos. The customer service was phenomenal. I thought it was kind of weird to stand there and order my sandwich verbally while the clerk took notes like a waitress (management, if you're reading this, please consider putting out sandwich order forms for customers to fill out, like a normal deli), but she did such a great job. She was really sweet, too. When I opened up my sandwich wrapper, I saw a whole rainbow of vegetables, which was exactly what I wanted. I should have taken a picture-- it was a very Instagrammable sandwich-- but I was so hungry and exhausted (it's been a rough few days), I just devoured it like a ravenous feral beast. Everything was as fresh and delicious as could be, and the sandwich was so big I could barely finish it. Definitely top tier for a grocery store deli. I've also stopped by several times now for a few small items at a time, and have had all great experiences. I think I may have encountered some expired chocolate my first trip here, but that turned out to be a fluke, and hasn't happened again since. All things considered, this is my favorite grocery store in the area.

A decade since my first review, and 8 years of shopping here regularly... I give the staff a lot of…read morekudos for being friendly, helpful, recognizing customers, etc. The "Huckleberrys" section has a decent selection of organic or specialty items. You definitely have to watch prices very carefully in a number of ways. The regular price at Rosauers will often be substantially higher than Safeway, particularly if Safeway has a special. For instance, Califia non-dairy milks are often $4.49 at Safeway, and today were $7.49 at Rosauers. Sale prices at Rosauers can make things more competitive. BUT... you HAVE to watch the prices as you're scanning or ringing up on your own. I now take a photo of the shelf tags on anything with a sale price. Otherwise, I'd say between 30% & 50% of the time, the price in their system hasn't been updated to reflect their shelf tag price. Even losing $1 or $2 a week on the failure to match system price with a discount price adds up. The bad part of even taking the photo is that if you didn't notice but then checked as you were ready to leave means you have to go wait in the customer service line, show your receipt, phone photos, and item, get it written up, and then get your $ back. So take the photos, watch as it's scanned, and call someone over as soon as you see the wrong price appearing. If you shop there once a week and save $2/week by catching their tagging mistakes, that's over $100 saved a year. It holds true in produce as well. ALSO ... watch carefully for which shelf tag refers to what item. They don't always get them correct, so you may see a tag that says $5.99 for an item, but it's referring to the item ABOVE your item (which is $8.99 instead). Caveat emptor is the reigning motto at Rosauers!

Tofurky is a pillar of the plant-based food movement (5/5 Green Stars also)…read more Tofurky (made by the charmingly-named Turtle Island Foods, based in Portland, Oregon) has been around since the 1980s and is still a family-owned company. Founder, Seth Tibbot had this to say about the journey: "Armed with my life savings of $2500 and a passionate love for soybeans, I rented a small space in the back of the Hope Coop Café in Forest Grove, Oregon, and started making 100 pound batches of tempeh at night when the coop was empty." "Sure we have had offers to sell, merge and take on outside investment. And as we go forward, the day might yet come that sends us in one of these directions. Believe me, we question the sanity of walking the independent path all the time. But at the end of the day, we get great joy from our work and our independence and are sustained by it." He started by making tempeh, and that still represents around 10% of their sales, but they are more focused on products made from a tofu/gluten blend, such as their ubiquitous deli slices and their famous holiday roasts. Having developed a method for making roasts around 1997, they recently celebrated the sale of their five-millionth. My favorites: 1. Holiday roast with wild rice stuffing - so good with mashed potato and gravy! 2. Italian sausages - great with pasta and sauce. 3. Deli slices - a good addition to a sandwich or just on a slice of toast for breakfast. I'm also giving Tofurky 5/5 "green stars" for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons: * Vegan products. * The water, land, and greenhouse gas footprints for tofu and gluten are much lower than those for meat. * Made with organic soybeans sourced from North America. * Independent company that's certified by B-Corp. * Their main production facility was constructed to LEED Platinum standards. * Some of their energy is generated by on-site solar. * Packaging is recycled cardboard and minimal plastic. * They support local animal-rescue and environmental groups. Interested in writing green star reviews? If so, contact me!
