We took the family out for a late lunch today, and the kids were excited to get pirate packs, so we ended up at this spot. Even though the review showed 2 stars, the kids were so hungry that we decided to go anyway lol! The restaurant wasn't too busy, maybe 5-6 tables, and we were greeted and seated quickly. We ordered 3 pirate packs fish and chips, chicken fingers, and grilled cheese. The kids loved everything, and believe me, they are quite picky eaters! My wife tried the mushroom burger with spot salad, and I went for the 2-pc fish and chips. Our waitress did an awesome job! She made sure the kids were served first, and shortly after, our food arrived. Everything was delicious. We even refilled our fries, thanks to the attentive service. Despite the mixed reviews, I'd definitely come back to this place. read more

I came at 4:55pm on a Tuesday hoping I would still make the happy hour menu. The waitress was very nice about it and put my order in before I was seated to take advantage of the happy hour. Then we were seated and served by a different waitress. She did her job but I didn't really feel like she worked for her tip. The food was decent. It all came out hot. I didn't like the way they did their calamari (see pic). It was fine and wasn't chewy though. I thought the quesadillas were great! The children got pirate Pak's. The chicken strips and burgers I felt were done well in comparison to the other children friendly chain restaurant (interior is red). The sweet potato fries were so good and the kids got refills but by the third refill they were drenched in grease. I felt it was quiet at 5pm and was clean. I would rather choose this place than the other chain restaurant with the bottomless sides. read more

Ambiance is that of a 60's diner updated. The service is hit or miss. Depending on the server. Some times the servers are friendly, other times they seem tired and bored and don't care. The hostesses do more then just greeting people, like making drinks and bringing food but they don't get a percentage of the tips. Also the kitchen gets a tiny percentage of tips that seems unfair for their efforts. I think thats a flaw in the restaurant chain's business strategy. Today we had a server that just didn't care. She is an older blondish woman. She wasn't friendly. She didn't bring the food. Someone else did. She didn't ask if we liked the food. She just ignored our table until it was time for the bill basically. She forget my drink and brung it practically at the end of the meal then blamed the kitchen for it and still charged us for it. seriously? lame. I went with the family to white spot on Remembrance Day. We were greeted like any other restaurant. We sat in a booth. I got a Bellini for $6. It is basically an adult slurpy. There was a kids menu and crayons for children. There wasn't many vegetarian options. The garlic prawn spaghetti was delicious For a family restaurant it was a little pricey at about $20+ plate. Our stop for breakfast on the way east to a stay in Hope over the past weekend. We had a gift card, and finally found the perfect opportunity to use it. We chose the Port Coquitlam location because it was on our route of travel, and not too far from home, so that we could get an early-am breakfast 'kick-start' to what we had planned to do and see on our travel day. Mom went for the 'Ham & Brie' makings, as a scramble (ham & eggs, w/green onions, argula, cheddar, and Jack cheeses, and fresh, green, shredded lettuce, w/their shredded 'hashbrown' potatoes, and sourdough toast. Daughter and I opted for the 'BC Sunny Start' - a breakfast sandwich - w/bacon, cheddar cheese, grilled tomato, fried egg, Triple "O" sauce, served in a signature bun, with their 'smashbrown' potatoes on the side. So today's review is based off of a large order of adult pirate packs for today's special ! $2 of every meal today went towards some charity for children, so sure I'll eat burgers for charity :D The adult pirate pack itself was very underwhelming however, especially for the price ($16). The burgers were okay tasting though they were sloppily thrown together and barely had any ingredients in them (for example had one piece of lettuce that covered probably only 1/4 of the burger). It also came with fries, coleslaw, and about one scoop of vanilla ice cream. The fries were the most disappointing - they tasted cold and stale. The ice cream looked like it had vanilla bean in it and it was a nice flavor. The coleslaw didn't have much flavor besides the sesame seeds. The service in general was pretty poor but I understand they were swamped and I assume this is conditional. We ordered about 11 take out meals in advance to pick up for 11:45. We got our food around 12:10. We realized after we were missing one full meal (fish and chips), and one drink (there were 10 cokes and 1 ginger ale - they forgot the one ginger ale). Also on a side note even though it was "adult pirate pack day" they didn't give you any boats or pirate hats in your to go order. I was pretty disappointed because isn't that the whole excitement ? Without it, it's a regular burger combo that you can get at any fast food restaurant for $10 max, not $16 haha. Probably won't get it again. read more

Rarely go,to any Whitespot anymore as there is always and issue or more.... Tonight had to go as there was not much open and we were hungry. Hostess seemed very disinterested. We were sat and menus tossed in the table. Place was almost empty. Gone are the days of long waits at Whitespot. Ordered a basic house lager beer. Waitress comes back and says they don't have any. No other beers are stocked either, all the other beers (not many either) were were things like Gross Peach ale and things. They had NO normal beer. Wow. Enjoyed 7 onions rings for $9. What? The fries were cold and flacid as always and still somehow looked a bit burnt . That's an amazing feat! Halibut burger was soggy and fell apart and tho the menu said it had two pieces of halibut in it, it only had one. And worst of all, the card on the table announcing the halibut entrees said that a halibut burger was $20.99. On the bill we were charged $23.99. I pointed this out to the waitress and after a kerfuffle she came back and said they must have not changed it when the halibut promo started. However, it's not a regular menu item, so wouldn't it have just had the price entered then. And even worse, the promo started back on April 2. So that means they were ripping people off for at least 3 weeks ! I'd love to go back tomorrow and order another one and see what the price is on the bill. Probably won't have changed. After that the waitress comes and gives me a toonie? My local pub never gets the prices wrong and has much more professional staff. Whitespot is an absolute tragedy. And the $90 for a quick dinner for 3 is a joke. Oh ya and somehow the one good thing that never changes the coleslaw-has somehow been changed now sucks. Great job all around Whitespot. read more

This is a corporate food service provider, not a mom n pop, or family business, so I understand why they behave the way they do. Staff seem alienated from their normal cheerful selves working in a poisonous toxic environment, so I would be pleasantly surprised to receive genuinely friendly warm hospitality. ...... today's was ' corporate '......going through the motions and an average rating on the meals which were bog standard, I.E. 'nothing' special'. The coffee price @ $3.35 plus taxes tips is excessive. 'Wash & wear' coffee, NOT barista prepared, but the 'make a big pot' kind using 'standard', I.E. 'nothing special' ingredients. Prices are not cheap, quality is ordinary at best, and service is 'functional', not memorable. Staff gave me the understanding they were unappreciated and overworked, so we over* tipped, receiving no recognition / acknowledgement *(30%) in ANY way, not even a smile. VENUE: IMPRESSIVE bricks n mortar building. Spacious comfortable place, clean restrooms, parking easy..... twas a good 'venue' for old friends to get together, nothing more nothing less. My friends and I got to White Spot around 7PM. Restaurant wasn't too busy; therefore, we were seated promptly. Food was OK. Place is clean. Service was OK but why were we segregated from other patrons who were mostly Caucasians? There were tables available on the "other" side of the restaurant where there were more people but we were taken to the side with no customers. Halfway through our meal we finally see a couple seated behind us. The busier side has died diwn because it is now 8PM. Lo and behold the couple behind us is Asian! There is definitely something wrong with this picture. This was really awkward especially Canada is a multicultural country. My friend and I felt we were segregated due to race. This White Spot has problems going back years. Service! The following problems occurred in a near-empty restaurant during a Sunday lunch service. First, our adult party was seated in what appeared to be a family area even though the rest of the restaurant had ample seating available. Upon getting our initial drinks, we had to ask for water on a very hot July afternoon. Minutes later, we had to ask for coffee refills - our server was missing in action! After roughly thirty minutes, we had to ask where our food order was, and were told it was being plated and would arrive in the next few minutes. When it did arrive, some of our orders were only lukewarm after obviously waiting for pickup. Quality! Not good! Our burgers were like no other White Spot burger I'd ever had, and I've had a few in my lifetime. The bun was stale, the patty was flavourless, the bacon was cold - one might go so far as to question if this was even a distant relative to their "Legendary Burger"! A look over at the fried chicken and waffle lunch another in our party had ordered almost made me laugh at the minuscule size of the serving. A complaint to the manager resulted in comped burgers and two gift certificates, but I doubt we'll be using them at this franchise. All of this raises a huge question - does White Spot even care about the quality of service and food their franchisees are providing? Many reviews going back years mention the same issues at this location, but nothing has been done either by the owners of this franchise or by the head office to fix the problems. Unfortunately, one can no longer take it for granted that you'll receive an above average meal at any White Spot restaurant. I never thought I could ever give a bad review on our little Canadian gem, White Spot....but the management and service here is so terrible...it is hard not to. Judging from other Yelpers and other review sites (http://dinehere.ca/port-coquitlam/white-spot-ottawa) this location seems to provide A+ on bad service. You'd think after all these complaints and reviews they'd do something about it, but I guess they could care less. Regardless, lets dive into this bad review that it deserves. The S/O and I were craving a White Spot brunch and came here yesterday on BC's first Family Day. Given that it was a stat holiday we were prepared for a wait. We stepped into the resto just before 1PM, saw a few groups (a couple or 2, 2-3 families of 4-5) ahead of us, but was relieved to see 5-6 empty tables and booths available. SCORE--we beat the crowd somewhat! We left our names with the hostess and stood near the front as we assumed our names would be called soon. Then that's when it all went downhill. 5 minutes passed and I noticed nobody was getting seated even though there were PLENTY of tables and 2 person booths available. More families and couples were starting to come in and this time, the hostess quoted them a 20-25 minute wait. And when groups asked about sitting at the bar (Which was EMPTY with only 1 couple at the bar and another couple sitted at a table) the hostess replied "There are other patrons that are waiting to be seated there but I'll put you down for the bar if it comes available." Another 10 minutes passed and by now I'm getting a little bit impatient. THere were 2 empty 2 person booths that weren't filled and by now my S/O and I were one of "first" couples on the waitlist that were still waiting. So I asked the hostess if the booths were empty and if we could sit there. She replied with "They're not open for today..but don't worry we got a table for you soon." I just nodded with annoyance as another couple came in to put down their names. The hostess gave the same response that it would be a 20-25 minute wait and the couple asked if they could sit at the bar. Of course, the hostess replies with the same damn reason that others were waiting for it. As the couple walked off to the sides to wait, my S/O heard the gf say "..there's barely anyone in there with 3-4 seats [available]." Oh and not long after that (by now I've waited 25min), a family of 4 got seated at a table that had been empty since I got there. This was the last straw. Luckily, the manager was walking around the resto and as if the gods above were aware of my frustration, he strolled right to the front where I just laid it all out for him. Me: Hi, are you the manager. Manager: *Nods* Me: Hi, great. Okay, so what's with the wait? Manager: *Looks surprised as if he has no idea what I'm talking about* Me: Yeah, there are plently of tables available as you can see so why the wait?? That family just saw down at a table that has been empty for almost the past half an hour I've been standing here. Manager: I'm sorry miss for the wait... Me: And those 2 person booths have been available to couples this WHOLE TIME so why wouldn't you open them for service???!!! Manager: Oh I'm sorry miss, we've been busy and these empty tables just needed to be wiped down before we could seat anyone. Your table is available now so we can seat you. I'm so sorry for the wait. What a shitty excuse; So he's basically telling me that for 25 minutes nobody could go over to the empty tables and WIPE the countertops??! He made patrons wait for almost half an hour for a table that just needed 5 seconds of care?!?!??!! How about he just own up the fact that he did a poor job at managing his team and not have enough staff on hand on a FREAKING STAT HOLIDAY!?!?!?!? By now my S/O was starvingso we just shook our heads and followed the other hostess to our seats to the bar/lounge area. I wanted to be done with this and just eat. WHATEVER!! All the while I was walking, I was fuming but told myself this couldn't get anymore worse than it was. I.WAS.WRONG. I was kinda trailing behind and when I saw my S/O stop, I knew something was wrong..AGAIN. I kid you not, the hostess had seated us at the lounge's "Couch" area with a mini table where you'd have to hover to eat WHILE there was a real dining table right next to it. I DIED. I FREAKING DIED. Of all the tables that were available...they placed us at the last possible seats ANYONE should be at unless a restaurant is packed FULL. IT was not. What the eff is wrong with this location!? The hostess THEN sat us down at the real table and apologized over and over again and said how she'd be right back to wipe this table down (because it hadn't been wiped down for 30 minutes of course) and placed our menus infront of us. The manager at this location is patronizing, condescending and has an attitude that makes her stink! I placed an order for pick up, and after me asking four different times on how long it would take, her answers were condescending and patronizing. She was unwilling to find out and kept repeating herself to me. Very unprofessional. This is not the type of attitude that a manager should have. I've ordered take out many times from this location and it has NEVER been correct despite the quality check sticker on the bag. I'd love to think it's just an unfortunate coincidence that they can not get my order right however, there's always someone else there having a problem with their take out order as well! Today we ate lunch at this very busy, very popular White Spot. There was a children's birthday party going on, usual noise to go with that. They had a kazoo and were playing with it when a VERY aggressive male guest leaned over the railing and yelled at the adult of the party to "Keep those kids quiet". Scared the heck out of the line mom in the group. When I approached the manager to ask how the restaurant would respond to this behavior he immediately went to the aggressive male customer and told him this kind of behavior isn't welcome here. I'm SO proud of the manager and this White Spot. We need more safe spaces. read more

Went here for breakfast for the first time last weekend as it was recommended. Food: Got the generic breakfast - eggs, pancakes, bacon sausage w/"smashed" potatoes. Will admit the sausage was good compared to a lot of other restaurant breakfast sausages I've had, and the pancakes were good (hard to really make a bad pancake, though) but that's about it. Scrambled eggs were bland and the fancy "smashed potatoes" tasted like they were cooked the night before and reheated in the a.m Waitress (Amanda... Sorry! That's how I roll!): Our waitress acted like she was depressed and lethargic! Talked like she was half asleep, couldn't hear her, seemed like she'd rather be dead than doing anything else, and just overall made the experience very dreary. And when she was billing us out, she just dropped receipts on the floor and left them there! There's no say she didn't notice!! *cough*LAZY*cough* Was very pathetic. Restaurant: D-I-R-T-Y. There was lettuce on my boyfriends side of the bench, and there was food spattered on the wall beside us. keep in mind this was at 10a.m, not really early enough for it to have gotten that messy. (Besides, even if it was 10 PM it shouldn't have been that dirty!) Clean up after, it's your job!! Otherwise: I really liked the strawberry and whatever smoothie... I will get it again one day. I've had two horrible experiences here. There is a waitress that is completely rude. I had a bad experience there about 6 months ago and decided to boycott. Yesterday my mom was in town and wanted to have breakfast there. Not surprisingly we ended up with the same waitress Her energy and attitude are awful. I came here with a bunch of my friends and I ordered the fish tacos. They were terrible! The batter was soggy, the fish was undercooked and the sauce on them tasted like it went bad. I sent it back and ordered the curry cauliflower salad. The lettuce was soggy and it lacked all flavour and the cauliflower was ice cold. At that point I just lost my appetite. I didn't finish the salad and when the ill came the server didn't even comp my first meal until I said something. Also my fiends ordered the spinach dip it was decent but a bit watery. Clue: don't sit people with babies and toddlers in this area! They need to deep clean this place, add weather stripping to front door. THIS WAS THE ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! DO NOT GO TO THIS WHITESPOT! We ordered take out. Spent $187. The meal came to us and EVERYTHING was incorrect. All the burgers were wrongly put together. We spend more than $3 for a topping of bacon on a burger and it did not com on 3 out of 4 burgers. We ordered 4 cheese on burgers and only 1 came with cheese! I called whitespot to obtain my money back for the toppings that they charged us for and did not put on the burgers. This was way worse than the experience of the food. I spoke to RAJ. He was incredibly rude and said "oh mam, that's impossible. My kitchen staff says it was correct". I said no, I have the food here and it is not right. He then transferred me to JORDAN, the General Manager. He said there is no way the burgers were wrong. Are you kidding me? It was like he thought I was "lying" about the toppings. They were NOT on our burgers. I'd say we were out about $20 in toppings. It would be one thing if management actually did something to make me happy to come back here again BUT I will NOT. I've been going here for over 10 years and will never step another foot in this WHITE SPOT. Also, the food we did eat, was disgusting. The only whitespot to go to in the tricity area is the one in Coquitlam. At least their food is decent and the people there are nice. Food was over-spiced. Naturally, we became gassy later (bloated feeling.) The menu write up doesn't match the food that was expected, especially with the name-dropping, like John Bishop's name. The dessert "trio" tarts were tiny compared to the menu photos; the chocolate cake was good, but the lime tart was tasteless to me. The underlying corporate strategy, in my guess, is to use hot spice to disguise the lack of (more expensive) flavouring. Very small portions of salmon and mushrooms. After this experience, I'll go back to buffets, where I can see what I'm paying for, before I sit down. Zero-stars. read more
