Nice diner for breakfast. I'm sure they have other meals, too. We asked as we came in whether breakfast was still being served and the kind waitress informed us that they serve breakfast all day. My husband had 3 eggs, sausage and pumpkin pancake. I had their veggie omelette with American fries (hash browns) and a pumpkin pancake. Both were very good. I like the atmosphere here. Lots of wood, Tiffany style lighting and pretty upholstery. Country music is playing on their overhead speakers. Good, quaint place with good quality food. read more

Confirming Cassandra M's review. The fried food tasted like clams, which I can only assume they fry everything in the same vat of oil. This is VERY DANGEROUS and could ABSOLUTELY KILL AN ALLERGIC PERSON. My friends chicken pesto panini was PATHETIC precooked rectangle of rubbery "all white meat" chicken, the pesto was actually just dried basil flakes mixed with a mystery oil, the bread was institutional grade "focaccia" which wasn't pressed, grilled, or even toasted, just plain and cold. Tomatoes we're sorry little slices of misery, as were the pickles. The chickens fingers and fries I ordered tasted just like clams. The buffet was another option. Greasy, old, lukewarm entrees stewing in their own juices. Stinky halibut, gloppy stir fry, minute rice, and a sickly salad bar. Perfect breeding ground for harmful bacteria. The decor is never really a factor, but it was reminicent of an episode of Restaurant Impossible After tip you could round up the bill to $30 I wish I could rate this establishment 0 stars. I like to try new and local diners to support the community. However, I also like really good food. For some reason Columbia county is home to some really swell mom & pop diners, as well as some really rotten ones. This one was pretty terrible. I ordered a chicken pesto mozz panini and they used dried spice-bottle basil mixed with cold mystery oil for the "pesto". I wonder if they always serve it like this or just in a pinch? If you don't have actual pesto, just tell me. I would have gladly chosen something else. Don't serve garbage, it was literally disgusting. I'm usually not picky with stuff when I eat out but using three tablespoons of dried basil mixed with cold oil does not equal pesto. Also, it gets worse. Anyway, on top of this, the panini was cold. Dead cold. Panini's are warm, toasted, with melted cheese and warm insides. The chicken was cold, the shredded mozz pieces were just sitting inside the pale tomato slice, the bread was clearly not "panini pressed" (I would even settle for a grill top or broil toasted sandwich), but they didn't heat anything up. At all!!! Did I mention we arrived at 1pm and didn't get served until 1:40? What took so long to make an untoasted panini? Did you go to the gas station next door to pick up dried basil? My partner ordered chicken tenders (4 pieces) and fries ($11) and his entire plate tasted like clams. Do you fry your shellfish in the same fryer you cook chicken and fries? What are you doing!?? This is such a no-no. My fries tasted fishy too, but after biting the panini I couldn't trust my tastebuds from then on out. Either way, that was bad. And the prices were worse, especially considering the extremely poor quality of the ingredients. $6.99 for the pre-cooked-then-frozen-then-warmed-up-slightly chicken between two un toasted slices of bread with dried basil from a spice bottle and unmelted mozz. And the panini didn't come with anything at $6.99. None of the entrees come with anything except two slices of pickles. I had to pay an extra $2 for french fries that smelled like seafood. We were going to get the lunch buffet but one look said "no, maybe the stuff on the menu is better because it's fresh?". Nope. The chefs don't care, the waitress didn't care. I told her I was unsatisfied with the meal and she apologized and offered to heat it up. After I told her, she was kind of standoffish and weird and didn't really say anything. I was hungry so I ate the cold chicken and clam fries. Our bill for two small portioned lunches with one coffee was $26.00. If you get higher quality ingredients I'm sure the chefs would produce better stuff. The prices compared to the quality were so laughable it's disturbing. I would not come back, this stuff tastes like bad institutional slop, which is I guess why ever customer is over the age of 60, older folks have less taste buds. It's true. I just don't know how they can afford it. Don't even think about going here. I don't know how long this place has been around but I'm surprised to see that it's still open. read more

Went for the lunch buffet with my parents. It was a Saturday, the day this review was posted, in fact (17th May 2014). Everyone ate well and left satisfied. The salad bar was cold, fresh, and offered a diverse assortment of veggies, pre-made salads, pickles, fruits, cottage cheese, pudding, and more. Items were slow to be replenished. The hot side of the buffet was limited in selection: Spaghetti with alfredo/marinara; pork stirfry; chicken cordon bleu; fried clam strips; white rice; mixed roasted vegetables; hot dogs w/ chili & sauerkraut; mashed potatoes w/ chicken or beef gravy. Chicken noodle soup and cream of broccoli soup were there too. While the dishes were tasty, some (especially the the stir fry and roasted vegetables) were old and dried out. Again, regular replenishment was lacking. Bread and butter were available, too. Our waitress was very personable and helpful. When she noticed me drinking a *lot* of water, she offered to bring a pitcher to the table, and did so. I didn't have any dessert, but the baked goods offerings appeared home-made. My dad had a slice of cake and had no complaints. There was also an ice cream machine. The price was okay at $7.99 per person, but I have paid less for much bigger selections at other buffets. To sum up, the lunch buffet was satisfactory if not superb. Everyone found something to eat (I swear I ate several pounds of cottage cheese! The chili was good, too). I complain of limited options, but of course I still got to sample more dishes than I would have ordering off a menu. The hot side was a bit unappetizing, and I wish that the employees were more attentive to items that needed replenishment. Still, a three-star affair. I'd eat here again readily enough. read more

This is quite possibly the worst restaurant I have ever been to. The buffet and salad bar food looked terrible so I chose to order off the actual menu. BUT then the power went out. Like literally the entire restaurant lost all power. On a 90 degree day, they had only small ceiling fans which of course stopped working with the power outage. As a result we were informed that they couldnt cook us any food without power (???????) So we could either eat from the buffet bar or eat nothing. Having an issue with diverticulitis, I chose the least horrible options of potatoes and a plain hamburger patty. By the time I was on the car ride home, I was in the midst of my worst ever flare up. NOTHING at that restaurant would have been safe to eat, honestly. And also, it smells and looks like a 70s era basement. read more

We had some time to pass before a play. So we decided to get some beverages and dessert. First, it took a while for someone to come over. Then, she listed teas flavors for us. One in our party had coffee. We ordered our teas and asked for the dessert menu. Took over 10 minutes for her to come back. Apparently they did not have earl gray. The problems only would get worse. I ordered cheesecake. When it came time, the waitress brought desserts over, but mine was missing. The cheesecake was frozen, and she was trying to defrost it. When she finally brought my cheesecake, it was quite frozen and inedible. So to sum it up, slow and bad service. Food that is served whole it is still frozen. Not a place I will go back to. This was the worst buffet I have ever eaten at. The food looked like it was left over from the previous nights dinner. Everything had either a skin formed over it or the grease and oil had separated from the hot things, on no wait nothing was hot and warm was only an option on a few things. Actually, 2.5 stars. I read the reviews, and, although I'm not fond of buffets or restaurants that seem sub-par, we decided to try it. It's been around in Ghent for almost twenty years, so there must be something viable and enticing about the place. The salad bar was very fresh when we went on Friday night. The hot entrees included thinly sliced roast beef au jus, which was fine, chicken, which was bland, and seafood. The stuffed clams were okay, but, like the chicken, nothing especially appealing. The cocktail shrimp was good, but the broiled haddock was tough. My partner had a chipotle burger, which was fine, as was the price, $6. The blueberry pie was not fetching. The food here is serviceable and edible, but devoid of imagination. However, the service was great, and the prices are extremely reasonable. read more

Been to the White Stone several times over the years- have had both buffet and ordered from the menu and we are always happy. Recently we had the need for catering services so we again looked to the White Stone. We had a birthday party for my mother-in-law and everyone raved about the wonderful dinner buffet. Pot roast you could cut with a fork! Red skin mashed potatoes, the cream of Turkey soup was wonderful. A huge salad bar with something for everyone. (We had a couple of vegans in our group and they had plenty to choose from. nice dessert selection and the kids loved the ice cream sundae bar. The hot side has items that are oily, smelly, old, dried out, the cold side is not good, limp lettuce. 3 of us went there yesterday. Great ride to get there on the Harleys and we were ready to eat. First off the waitresses were wonderful and very pleasant. If you needed something they were more than happy to get it for you. I was going to get the liver and my wife the turkey dinner. Our buddy eats breakfast all day. We seen their buffet and looked at everything and we got that instead of the dinners. The food looked great. Yankee pot roast, ham, turkey, piles of shrimp, stuffing, mashed potatoes (these and the stuffing were to die for), chicken in mushrooms, broiled haddock, countless deserts (pies, cheesecake and my favorite was the apples in cinnamon, strawberries and real whipped cream, tons of salads and much more to list. Would we go there again? We can't wait to go back! If you leave there hungry that is your own fault as everything was great. Had been to this place years ago when it was called something else. Happened to be in the area for lunch and thought we would give it a try. The food is really bad. Mac and cheese dried up and inedible. Uncooked white rice. Tasteless meat loaf and meatballs. The fried fish was cold and rubbery. There was not one good thing there unfortunately. Luckily the lunch buffet was only $7 per person but that was still way too much for crap food. The decor is old and outdated. The chairs were dirty. DO NOT ORDER A TAKE OUT MEAL FROM THIS PLACE, UNLESS YOU INSPECT IT FIRST. This is the last time I am giving this place a try. I have ordered take out three times in the past (should have learned my lesson already) and have ALWAYS been disappointed. When I opened my breakfast today (I ordered Eggs Benedict) there were poached eggs, English muffins and Hollandaise sauce (no ham or bacon). When you look up the recipe it says "Eggs Benedict is a breakfast or brunch dish that consists of two halves of an English muffin, topped with ham, bacon or back bacon; poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce." I have ordered this dish many, many times in my travels and have NEVER been asked it I wanted meat it is part of the dish! I called the restaurant and actually spoke to the OWNER and she said they always ask if you want meat and if I READ THE MENU I would have seen they have it written like that! I'm at home and don't have a MENU, but I do know what Eggs Benedict consists of. That's why I like this dish, it's always the same ingredients. My husband said the waitress asked him if he wanted any meat and he replied "doesn't it come with it?" So they decided he didn't want any!!! Oh and the owner said if I looked at my receipt I wasn't charged for the meat! Since when is ham or bacon extra on Eggs Benedict????????? I only eat here couple times a month when I'm upstate. New too this whole internet review thing but hearing about lawsuits on yelp for negative reviews being posted unless businesses pay monthly is really starting to show haha (let's see if my review makes it) This place is a basic diner but with the plus of a buffet not seen to often interesting combo in my opinion. I order eggs over light I get them over light bacon crisp was actually not thrown in the fryer. Only had buffet couple times but was good not dried out. Don't get me wrong its a local small town place (reminded me of cheers haha) but thats the kind of place that actually gets your food right. As I read previous reviews i just laugh cause it sounds like my snob ex in the city bashing a diner because they are not 5 star quality. Bottom line you want your eggs cooked right, a triple decker sandwich stacked or a good buffet i recommend. read more
