The people at Whites in New Bern are the best at what they do, bar none. Shem is the best mechanic in New Bern. Sam, the owner or manager or both is probably one the most laid back humans I have ever met or spoken to, was also the most knowledgeable guy ever. Took a vehicle to find the problem and get an estimate. Never received a call for the estimate or expected repair cost, per NC law my consumer rights were violated. Called for an update it was stated the car needed a new radiator and the work was already done (without approval another violation) and was told it would cost 700 (way above 350) to pick the car up. The cost was paid and not even 5 miles down the road the same problem persisted. Customer service was unpleasant and I will never spend money with them again, the work was not authorized and I will be filing a small claim on this matter. read more

I needed two tires...one had a nick in it..the other had a nail in it. So instead of patching and what not....I decided to purchase 4 brand new tires! I wanted to keep my business in the community that I lived in and ironically I passed by two tire shops on the way to work. I went to the first tire shop and he quoted me a price I didn't want the cheapest tires but I didn't want the most expensive he quoted me somewhere between $600 and $700 sounded good to me and I was happy to know that I would have four brand new tires. Way less than what the Kia dealership offered. The guy had a sense of humor he was gracious and I felt like I could trust him, and it didn't hurt did he was the owner of the company. Brought the tires in the next day pay for them with cash and he told me anytime I need it I could get the tires rotated whatever the spill was I went for it hook line and sinker. Been having inclement weather here in North Carolina it's gotten below freezing and as a result my tire pressure has gone down since I don't want to damage my tires that are less than a year old I brought them back to where I bought them to see if I could get them rotated and if I could get air in them. Came in same guy he was on the telephone helping another customer I was on my lunch so I left he came after me told him I was on my lunch I would come back came back today and he's on the phone long conversation and I'm telling him due to inclement weather my tire pressure is down I don't want to ruin my tires are less than 6 months old and I know that I can do that and I need the tires to last he said he could fit me in make an appointment next week I can't get them rotated because the holiday. So what I'm reporting is the change in personality and salesmanship and customer service when I was here to purchase something and exchange money I was treated and greeted entirely different my experience was way different now today there's no money being exchanged I just need air in my tires and for you to do what you promise when I purchase the tires now it's a big issue so I left but I came back cuz I need air in my tires because I don't have another $700 to buy new tires again because I wrote on these because the air pressure was low and it must be a big deal because my warning light keeps coming on in the car so it's serious I mentioned this tire company to a friend and she went ballistic on me told me that I shouldn't have ever come here she didn't tell me why but now I see it. Am I happy with the band the way I'm being treated today not at all not even a little bit but it's not going to change anything it's not going to change him it's not going to change the fact that I need air in my tires and it's not going to change how I feel the experience today has been imprinted in my brain forever and the sad thing is I do need my tires to be rotated so I'm going to have to come back an experience the experience that I don't want to experience there's tire shops up and down this road and I picked this one do your due diligence folks. read more

Went in at 8am for a transmission fluid and engine oil change and dropped off my vehicle with the owner letting me know they could do it but id have to leave my car there for a while. I was later called and said they could not do it before the end of the day due to special filter and transmission fluid, I understood. I went the next day to pick up my car after I received a call from them at 10:49am. I go pick it up and they charge me 600$. I leave and right before I get home my vehicle won't go into gear and there is no throttle response. I call them, they get a tow truck out there to pick up my vehicle. Around 5 hours later I call them and they say I can pick up my vehicle. I finally have my car back after 2 whole days for simple vehicle servicing, and a 600$ bill Just to wipe transmission fluid from the entire back portion of my vehicle. Do not recommend. I will NEVER EVER EVER take my car to White's Tire Service again!!! So on Friday I noticed a bubble in my tire, I take it there to get a used tire thinking everything is fine now; so today Wednesday I went to get my oil changed somewhere else and they take me to my car to show me the same tire I JUST got Friday and the whole thing looks like it about to fall apart come to find out I payed $50 for a used dry rotted tire! So when called they had the nerve to ask did I have a blow out and there was nothing they could do about it!! Mind you this is the same vehicle I commute back and forth to Greenville every week and the same vehicle I carry My 3 year old son around in everyday.. so I have to wait for something bad to happen to get a refund?? I moved to New Bern in 2007. Looking for the important things like doctors, hair dressers and honest mechanics is not an easy task. I tried a few places that are common and well known and felt all the familiar rush and sell. Then someone suggested White's. An oil change later I had found a home. White's is a comfortable place that feels like dads garage. The mechanics are outstanding and diagnosed everything spot on and fixed myriad of problems with my aging car (over 130,000 now). The repairs were reasonably priced and efficiently executed. Btw I always google to compare, call around, and of course ask dad.
