While visiting family in Moline, Il we went to Whitey's for ice cream. It was a must have according to all the locals I encountered. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the location we went to. The presentation of the kids who were helping the many customers in line was great! Although they had to have been stressed with the demand of customers, they were all very friendly, fast, but not to the point of rushing customers. These kids have to work pretty hard, hand making every shake, scooping each scoop all with a smile! Being new to Whitey's I wanted to try everything! No one ever seemed to mind my curiosity with their product. Definitely will visit Whitey's in future visits to the quad cities! read more

Whitey's is a Midwest legend and most QC kids, like me, who have moved away make this their first stop when coming home for a visit. Their ice cream is just the best I've ever had. If you come in the fall, be sure to try their pumpkin shakes. You pretty much can't go wrong here - even the frozen yogurt is better than anywhere else. Whitey's is owned by a Christian family who is also very involved in the community - for many teenagers, including me, this was their first job at the age of 15 or 16. They offer a nice employment alternative for teenage kids outside of fast food jobs, which is great! read more

I grew up in the Quad Cities but moved away when I was 21, almost 35 years ago. I always make it a point of stopping at Whitey's for a chocolate, peanut butter, and banana shake. My kids, now adults, also have fond memories of Whitey's because we would stop and get ice cream on on visits to see my parents. Now, I drive through the Quad Cities about 5 or 6 times a year on business, and always make it a point to bring a cooler so I can bring home 4 quarts of Whitey's ice cream for my family. We call it a Whitey's run. They pack it in dry ice and it stays frozen on the 3 hour drive back to Chicago. My wife especially likes their butter pecan, my son likes moose tracks, and my daughter likes peppermint, but you can't go wrong with any of their flavors. Their stores are very clean, the young people that work there are very polite, and the ice cream is the best I've tasted. read more

You've heard it before and you'll undoubtably hear it again but Whitey's ice cream is easily the most missable thing from the QC.

Detoured on the way back from Wisconsin b/c we heard such fabulous things about this place from a local. I got a seasonal pumpkin milkshake - yummy! My colleague got an oreo milkshake which he said was a disappointment (basically it was on par with Diary Queen). It also didn't help that we stopped at Kopp's over in the Milwaukee area the night before which just has better custard all around. It is a hit or miss deal w/ the HUGE menu so choose carefully.... The good news is that they will let you sample the different flavors so be sure to do that if you are unsure! read more

Whitey's has been a staple in my boyfriend's family for years and after hearing him rave about it so often, I was excited to finally try it. Being used to more mild winters, I was pretty shocked to see how packed Whitey's was even with freezing temperatures and snow on the ground. I sampled a few flavors and ordered strawberry with hot fudge--it was delicious! This is a no frills, very simple ice creamery but I think that's what makes it so good. The staff was welcoming and did not rush us while we were deciding our order. I can see why Whitey's has become a favorite in town. read more

This place has SO many different flavors of ice cream so you're sure to find something you'll love. A few favorites among our group were: fresh strawberry, "salted caramel" and "cup of joe espresso". The "graham central station" flavor actually won first place in a worldwide competition, so I'm sad no one tried that one. Definitely worth visiting! read more

I ordered the blueberry frozen yogurt. Wow was it good. The staff pours fresh blueberries into a vanilla frozen yogurt and uses a machine to make it right there on the spot old school style. I really wish we had a Whitey's here on the East Coast, I would be there all the time, and I am not even much of a sweets lover. read more

Here visiting my brother and his girlfriend from madison, wi. We got the "lite shakes" with fat free ice cream. I got one with strawberry pieces and chocolate flavoring and it was yummy. I tasted great for using fat free ice cream. My brother got a lite shake too with mint since he loves shamrock shakes at McDonald's it's obviously not 100% the same but it was super good! It takes a bit of a wait as they manually make the shake but we weren't in a rush. We will definitely come back again! read more
