Poor selection. Horrible customer service. Wandered around for 20 minutes without finding anyone to answer questions, so went to stand in line at the cashier. They Had two people trying to check one person out, I guess something was wrong with their system because they were reading the customers credit card information out loud where we could all hear it as we stood in line. I have always been treated very well by the staff at the Gilbert location. If he is available, I look for Gabe if he is not helping someone else, but the entire staff is great. The selection is amazing, and product knowledge is excellent. The intersection construction is finally completed after many months, and access is much improved with entrances now on Cooper and Guadalupe roads. They have the most amazing greenhouse for houseplants now (since 2015). I no longer have to drive to Scottsdale for an excellent selection of house plants. We got our lime tree and kumquat trees in 2013 here and they are doing great. The nursery is paradise to walk through! read more

Kicking off a yard remodeling project next month. Went to Whitfield Nurseries on Cooper and Baseline yesterday. I don't get around well, so Kristi offered to take us around on their golf cart. I had a list of recommended plants. We stopped at each area in the yard and Kristi got the plants and let me take pictures. She knew where all of the plants were and knew about them individually. The list contained 20 varieties! When we got back to the front, Kristi gave us a magazine that illustrates and informs on drought resistant plants. There were live chickens walking around and lots of birds sounding off. The place is like a preserve. To be treated like this is exceptional. If you're doing a project or just placing a couple of plants or trees on your property, go here. You'll likely make it your nursery for life! read more

I came across this nursery by accident and decided to stop in. My first visit went phenomenal and I ended up dropping 150 dollars. But after summer ended, I went back in to see what they had because I was looking for certain kinds of shrubs. There was a definite change in the staff attitude. A female staff that I asked for help from was rude to me and so was the cashier- they both acted like i was such an inconvenience to help. On two different occasions I called to get some information and the sales person that answered the call had a tone with me and made smart alec remarks. I want the owner of this nursery to know how his employees are treating the general public. You'd think that they would be nice to customers so that Arizonans spend their money on local businesses instead of big stores- but because they have not changed their tune and their attitude seems to get worse, I will take my business elsewhere. If you don't believe me, the owner needs to have secret shoppers call just so he can experience the rudeness himself. read more

I only buy plants from Whitfill Nursery. The selection is huge and every plant is of amazing quality. I had a lemon tree planted in March 2017 and as a novice gardener, I was able to call any time with questions. Even with the brutal summer we had, the tree is thriving. Whitfill really cares about customer service. A couple weeks ago, I brought home a palm and realized that it just wasn't going to work in the space I bought it for. Nancy and the staff were great about letting me return it. Definitely much better prices than other well-known nurseries in the area. read more

I called several days in advance to find out the process and what Whitfill does and doesn't do (and was planning to use their designer). I told them we also need rock and pet friendly artificial grass and asked if they do it or if I need to find someone else. Gabriel told me they do everything. So we arrived this morning to check Whitfill out and be sure we want to hire them since you need to commit to spend at least $500 to use their designer. We get there and are told they don't do any of that, only plants. What a waste of time!!! read more

I love this place. They have a broad selection, and their staff is always helpful and eager to please with great advice. It is a bit annoying sometimes to find prices but I haven't been disappointed with a purchase yet. They are right down the road from me and it's becoming a habit for me to stop in just to pick up a plant for my yard. We have always had great service here, have bought a few tomato plants, hibiscus and pumpkins here. They have all had very good growing success. (Except the pumpkins, we carved those) My daughter loves to look at the chickens that are all around the place. We called for a quote on a Japanese Privet 24 inch box tree. The guy on the phone said the price was $249.99. I asked him how much for everything including planting. He told us it was $249.99 +tax and a $50 planting fee. We went the next day to buy the tree and the lady that walked us to the tree said the price was $199.99. We were excited that the tree was less and assumed it was on sale. We were picking out the tree and she yelled over to another worker and said "the Japanese Privet is $199 right?" and he replied with "no, it's 299". That's $50 more than the quote on the phone. Then the lady told us it was $50 for delivery and $50 for planting. We were not happy that the price had changed 3 times in a day and a half, and we were quoted $50 for planting and told nothing of a delivery charge. We left without buying the tree. I called the manager today because we were still upset at what happened. She stated the price was $299. I advised her that the trees were not marked and what had happened. She said sorry and that she would split the difference and sell it for $249.99. I told her that was the original price we were quoted and how is that splitting the difference. She was rude and unwilling to make up for the incompetence of her staff. There is no reason someone should be told 3 different prices on one tree. I also let her know that we were quoted $50 for planting and the guy said nothing about delivery. She said "I have to get the tree out there, don't I". I said that I would pick up and they could plant it. She stated they will not plant anything they don't deliver. That seems like an up charge if you say it's a $50 fee for delivery and a $50 fee for planting. Just say $100 and be done with the false advertising! This is the second bad experience we have had at Whitfill and we will not return. We did buy two large trees before for $1200 even though they were rude because they were the only ones who had the trees we wanted. We will go to Moonvalley from now on. I called them after this mess and let them know their tree was more expensive then Whitfill and they said they would match there price without hesitating. The were professional and very nice on the phone. That's how business should be. You don't argue with a customer when your employees screwed up and mis-quoted a tree 3 times!!! The first person who helped me knew very little about the plants I wanted--she had to google information on her phone. I could do that! Then she had no idea where these plants were. But the worst of all, was that when we went to pay, someone stopped her to tell her she had a phone call, handed her the phone, and she proceeded to talk to a friend while I'm waiting to go to the cash register. The worst service. I went on to the register and left her talking. Then the cashier, after I paid, just stood there, and did not offer to help me take my plants to the car. Rediscovered this place and love it! I visited long ago, but now was in the market for a tree. Called ahead and asked for a price on a specific type of tree. When I arrived, I was overwhelmed by the huge lot and selection of so many plants and trees. Sought out professional help to find what I was looking for. The staff was very friendly and helpful, answering my many questions on how to plant the tree, etc. I noticed that the price on the tree was more than what I was quoted, but didn't say anything because I had decided that I wanted to get it anyway because the tree was twice as big as the one at Home Depot, plus the one at the other store had neonicotinoids which are bad for honey bees and I didn't want that (that's what brought me to Whitfill in the first place). At the register, the employee asked if I was the one who called, and gave me the price he'd quoted on the phone. They brought the tree up front for me and even loaded it in the truck. Excellent customer service from everyone I talked to. They have a huge selection of all kinds of plants and trees - the best I've seen anywhere locally. read more

So I ordered two 24 inch box trees from Whitfill in Gilbert. The driver comes out and sees that one of the trees I am replacing is not really dead. I didn't think it would recover. He insisted that I do not replace it and took the extra tree back. Not only that, he organized a water well around the tree that he didn't replace and added additional soil and watered it. I was not impressed with the other nurseries customer service. When I went to Whitfill they were very helpful and I even came across the owner while looking throught there tree selection. A group of high school seniors made a 45-minute reservation to have their Winter Formal dance pictures photographed at Whitfill Nursery in Gilbert. After 27 minutes, a very unprofessional employee of Whitfill's aggressively told the kids and photographer, without warning, that they had gotten enough photos and asked them to leave. The high school students were respectful the entire time during their reserved time and stayed out of the way of the very few quests that were there to shop at the nursery. Photo shoots at nurseries are a common practice and Whitfill allows this with a reservation. It was unfortunate that a disgruntled woman ruined this moment for the kids with her poor attitude. Truly poor customer service. We will certainly be letting others know not to make this mistake of using this location. On the brightside, there was one elderly male employee that unknowingly asked the kids if they enjoyed there time and told them ow great they looked. His kindness was appreciated. read more
