It was OK. Room was rustic but I did expect that. No TV etc. They had internet but I was only able to get it to work once during my two day stay. I had issues with them returning my calls when I had questions about my reservations. There is very limited cell service in the area and no pay phones available. The cafe is very nice and had good coffee and light breakfast items. The area is beautiful and Mt. Rainier is just a few miles up the road. read more

My spouse and I stayed there for 3 days in Sept 2018 in room 8 with 2 twin beds & private bath. We wanted a simple private room, not too distant from Mt Rainier from a town with not a lot of choices. It even had heating in the room. We were worried that the wood floors will be noisy from guests walking about, but we had no problem the first 2 nights. At 6 am of the 3rd day, we were awakened by doors banging shut, equipment being dropped on the floor, very noisy footsteps (seemed everyone up and about had heavy feet), music playing. We figured the noise should die down in 5 minutes, but it went on for half hour. I got up to look for where the noises were coming; it was from the cafe that was packed by a big group having breakfast. Perhaps room 8 was a bad room, with thin walls and being next to the restaurant. read more

If you are looking for a nice accommodation at a budget price, this is the place. It is the valley's best kept secret. If you manage to get a room at this place, jump on it. The rooms are consistently themed per the mountaineering/alpinism theme. All very rustic and woody. They don't have a fridge, tv or A/C, but they have a fan and heating. Holly, the one in charge if the rooms, did a pretty awesome job preparing it for our arrival. This place would definitely get a 5 star rating for location, staff, and price. However the walls are paper thin and the beds are noisy. We could hear the people moving around in their beds in all rooms around and above us. The cafe is convenient and the staff super friendly. Note: if you arrive after they have closed (reception is not 24hr), your key will be left on the office's door on an envelope with a map and your rooms location. The hot tub is a bonus after a long hike, but we never found it. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here on our way to Mt Reineer national park. We stayed in multiple hostels along our travels but we were surprised that we had a bathroom to ourselves in our room. I rarely write reviews, but this place is awesome! It had just what we needed--a clean bed, hot shower, hot tub and great service for an affordable price. When we arrived staff were closing up the office, but Win Whittaker, the owner, was still there and made sure we had everything we needed. It's quaint and comfortable and it has free Wi-fi! The outdoor hot tub was lovely, surrounded by twinkly lights. Perfect temperature--And only steps away from our room. I don't know how busy it gets in high season, but we had it to ourselves the first weekend of December. If you want the perfectly appointed room, with a perfect bed and lots of amenities, go somewhere else. This is a clean, budget motel/hotel that has character, great customer service and an ambiance that celebrates the outdoor lifestyle. Three things I will always do when I'm not camping in this area--stay at the Whittaker Bunkhouse, visit the Whittaker store and eat at the Copper Creek Inn (lots of gluten-free options). Friendliest coffee and ice cream stop West of Longmire. Just what we needed after hiking to Comet Falls (Plus Free Fast WiFi).

We stayed in room #3 which had a private bath and carpeting. Awesome location for hiking in southeast portion of Mt. Rainier. Great prices and options for accommodations. No fridge available for storing any food, but with a store close by you don't really need to worry about all that. The heater works great considering how small it is. Plenty of space in the room, but limited storage for things with no closet. Bed is a little old and lumpy, but it works. Breakfast in the cafe left a little something to be desired, but it got the day started. Will definitely come back here again when visiting Mt. Rainier. read more

I stayed here with my partner for 3 nights and it was so wonderful! I just wish I could be there right now. It was so cozy and so nice in the cottage. The gas fireplace really heated the place up. It was fun to read the paper make a nice breakfast and have a cup of coffee on the porch. The only thing i would warn about is that you can hear the cars driving by since it isn't that far off of the road. Can't wait to go back! read more

Arrived a little after the office closed at 8:00. Key was left in an envelope taped to the office door which was fine, but there was no information in the room about the hotel or area. Apparently there was suppose to be. Signed up for this hotel as it was moderately price for the area and offered a hot tub. Found the the tub had a combination locked in place. Figured we just needed the number so we went looking it. Since we found no information in the room and the office was locked we asked others guests and found they had a book in the room, but no combination listed. The next morning we asked about it were told sorry it's been broken for a few days and won't be fixed during out multi-day stay. They could of at least put a sign on the door saying it was broken/out of service and saved us the trouble of trying to find the lock combination. Room was ok, but walls leaked noise more than any other place I've stayed at in memory. Bed was a typical spring mattress on metal frame with no headboard and not attached to the wall. As a result if you sat up in bed against the wall the bed simply pushed away from the wall leaving you with no backrest. Definitely would not come back. Spend a few extra dollars elsewhere. read more

So I was not staying here pre-mountain climb. I just wanted a decent nights rest in a clean room. The check in was friendly. The room was clean. But, the good nights sleep wasn't because the bed was horribly uncomfortable. I had a room with twin beds and they were both very bad in my back and body. I pulled the sofa futon to the floor and it was a bit better, but for 120 a night this faculty should be able to afford quality mattresses. Be wary. read more

it's a cute motel/lodge right off of the main hwy/road... We were attending a wedding near mt rainier and decided to stay here because the rooms were so cheap (65.00)! rooms were small with little amenities, but what can you really expect for 65.00 dollars! the coffee shop connected to the lodge was amazing... I got a white chocolate mocha and although it was a bit pricey (5.00) it was so good I'd probably stop by again if I was ever in the area just to get one lol... beds were ok, pillows were a bit flat, water pressure was nice and overall the room was probably a 3... BUT because the freaking price was only 65.00 you really cant complain about muchlol... read more

Super quaint, comfortable hotel just a few minutes down the road from mt rainier. We stayed in one of the "small" rooms. It had 2 twin beds and a private bath. We were in town for a wedding and really only used the room to sleep the one night we were there. But we were very happy to have wifi as we didn't have cell service up there. Check in was super quick and easy. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The coffee at their coffee shop was delicious. Parking was easy and we were able to park next to our room. My only complaint about this place was that the beds were not very comfortable and they also made a lot of noise even if you barely moved. Other than that, this place was great and I would stay there again. The price was very reasonable and it was a beautiful little town. read more

This place was convenient and cheap for a quick trip for MTTA tour de huts weekend. The room was small with no frills. No TV, which was nice, and two small twin beds. The whole place had little insulation so I'd recommend ear plugs. You will hear everything, road noises, people talking, , laughing, walking. The little storefront cafe was great. They actually made a great Tully's Coffee Americano. We were highly impressed, since we have very low coffee expectations while traveling outside of Seattle. read more

On a tour of the area included two overnights here. Clearly the person who recommended this place didn't clearly understand the makeup of this group. Our trip included under $100 'unique' places to over $300 a night national park lodges. Wide variety of rooms here. We were upstairs; since it was cold out thought it should be comfortable but it wasn't, even with the windows open. It was too warm. Figured ventilation was a problem as there were two fans standing in the very large, empty room. But the fans were thickly dust overhead and I don't want to blow all that stuff around and certainly wasn't gonna clean them. Others of our group complained about enthusiastic loud climbers being too vocal in the rooms. Trying to pump up the adrenaline? Cafe was nice, but a long wait in a very hot confined space. That bookcase headboard was a problem. Could not lean against it to read. It swallowed the pillows, plus it wobbled. The rooms downstairs were very small and cramped. Rooms in the back buildings were two bedrooms with a connecting bath. Go figure. Not sure what you'll get with your reservation. Passed another lodging down the road to Rainer. Will definitely cost more, but looked full of amenities. read more

First off, I have read some off the wall reviews. Out of every motel/hotel/holiday inn whatever that I have stayed at, this one BEAT them all out. I have never felt so at home. And I am saying EVERYTHING about this place is absolutely wonderful from the service, prices, cleanliness, and all the baristas working were so helpful, outgoing, and not to mention absolutely beautiful. The owners of the bunkhouse are so laid back and give off such a warm, welcoming vibe. We ran into a housekeeper, and she was so nice, outgoing, and sweet. I can GUARANTEE...not almost guarantee but GUARANTEE, you will love it and if you don't, go back to your 15 billion dollar mansion and STAY there. FYI - we are tent campers, so motels are a treat, we are not snobs. We stayed in Room 7 (Double w/ private bath). The bed was terrible, totally broken down in the middle and easily 10 years old - definitely NOT worth $70 for one night. We have never had such a bad bed in comparably priced motels. Everything else about this place is great. Clean, tidy, very friendly staff, and a cute building that is in good shape. Spent the night here with my wife and 7-year-old after a day hiking the mountain. It was literally the only bed available in the area on two days notice and I went in with proper expectations after reading the other reviews. Not a Hilton...check. Sparse accommodations...check. Spongy old mattresses...check. How about beds on wheels that roll way too easily across the hardwood floors when you least want them to. There's also the fire alarm system control board that clicks and flashes all night long...ANNOYING! But worst of all was the absence of screens on the windows leaving us with two options...sleep in an uncomfortably warm room with the windows closed or be eaten alive by blood-thirsty insects swarming through the open unscreened window. Oh, and one of the portable electric fans in the room had a broken blade which made it unoperable (but entertaining to watch.) I could go on and on, but I think you get the picture. I have no problem with BASIC, but get the basics right. Maybe my review applies ONLY to room L33, but I doubt the trend ends at the door. read more

i have 5 children and we have been on the road for three days and we booked rooms here and when we came there they said they didn't have anymore rooms even though we booked ahead of time and they only gave us one room so we had to book at paradise village which is a much better choice because they had available rooms and bigger rooms and they had amazing breakfast read more

On our way to a day of hiking in Mt. Rainier National Park and we were excited to find Whittaker's for breakfast. They open at 6:45, perfect for getting up early to get on the trails. I asked for bacon on the bagel sandwich, instead of sausage, only to be told they couldn't because it's a pre-packaged sandwich. Gross! This place is awesome, for anyone who wants a clean, affordable, friendly place to stay as a jumping-off point to Mount Rainier. I was totally comfortable and felt "unplugged", because no cell service is just perfect for a relaxing vacation!!! The staff was great, the cafe had wonderful coffee, treats, and delectable ice cream. Would definitely stay here again. If you're looking for a posh room, room service, and movie-watching on your big screen TV, vacation in New York.
