Extremely friendly customer service! That's the biggest takeaway I got, leaving this particular whole earth provisions. The overall vibe of this store reminds me a lot of my hometown of boulder, co with a hipster, hippie, hiker, wanderer kinda feel. The title says it all... the store gives you the same feel that shopping at Whole Foods might. But what can I say, I like it! Maybe it was the background music or the friendly staff... What you can expect is a nice collection of clothes (I like their North Face, Patagonia & Prana selection), more stylish but a little pricier than REI. I didn't check out the gear too much; I'd say REI has the more utility-ish stuff. They also had lots of kids' science-related toys. I imagine West U moms shopping here often. We love Whole Earth Provision! First time I came was years ago when I was looking for Dansko clogs for work and they had a great sale on them with prices comparable even to Amazon. Now that we have a kiddo, she loves going with us now. The toy section is pretty great and we almost never leave empty handed. The staff is friendly and helpful and they always give stickers to the young ones. Great selection of outdoor gear, clothes, and everything else you need. read more

A little pricey, but an interesting selection of knick knacks. Unfortunately, their camping selection isn't huge and I could find nothing for cyclists. Awesome, Awesome, Awesome!!! So far, this is my favorite retail in Houston! The staff is super helpful. This is one stop shopping for the entire family. I had a blast Christmas shopping here for my husband and baby girl. I was pleasantly surprised by the toy and book selection for infants, toddlers, and children. Do not go anywhere else for toys! They had exactly what I was looking for when shopping for my husband. Interesting place. Lots of stuff with high quality brands, like Osprey packs, one of my favs. The staff could use a kick in the butt. Good customer service does not seem to be their main goal. One of the staff gave me a pained, forced smile and kept on going, didn't ask if I needed help. Several young, pseudo-hipsters working here. Been to this store a few times and it's definitely a fun place to browse. I wish it was a little cheaper but it's ok for gift giving that's for sure. Really enjoy the kids' section. Feels like those old stores I grew up with that had a little bit of everything. Going in there made me realize how much I miss those stores. But that being said this place is pretty expensive for the items that it does offer. Unless you absolutely fall in love with something, then I recommend looking for it elsewhere or online. I went all over town to find some women's waterproof day hiking shoes. I hit the jackpot here: Keen, Merrell, Teva, Northern Face brands in a good variety of styles. The women's hiking shoe section and clothes section here are a lot better than the Galleria REI store has. The prices are really reasonable. They also have cute kid's gifts that are unique and educational. Also a nice selection of travel books. Friendly staff. read more

I was disappointed in the availability of shoe sizes. They only get 1-2 pairs of the larger sizes for each shoe, which is ridiculous for a city this size. The service was not very good either. I wanted to give it two stars, but gave it three because of the selection of toys and gear. read more

I've been shopping at both stores for years-sometimes alot sometimes a little. I do notice that the staff in the front of the store are always friendly and eager to help, but then it completely changes when you get to the shoe dept. I've bought at least 8 pairs of Toms(in every color-doubled up on a few) that I purchased, since I don't need any assistance, I can help myself with those(YOU CAN FIND THEM LESS @ OTHER STORES.) They have literally ignored me when I'm looking and handling the displayed shoes. Also, I hate how they tag directly on the clothing. I have not shopped nearly as much because I refuse to pay that much for clothes with holes in them. PLEASE-PUT THE TAGS IN THE SEAM!!! During time this will expand and you have a tear on your favorite shirt that you paid over $100 on. Overall the staff up front are well trained and know all about giving awesome service-not so much for those shoe guys. Beware before you make your purchase to check for holes if you value a $ or $$$. read more
