Out of shape and in my late 40s, I managed to get into the best shape of my life in about six to nine months of working ~ twice a week with Scott and following his diet plan. After a fairly active and fit young adulthood including college era athletics, I had been in a long decline and decided to do something about it. I had been a massage client of his for a couple of years, and he often talked about his ideas about fitness training during sessions. I have been a computer geek since the early 80s, and there was something I recognized in the way he talked about anatomy, diet and training. He really nerded out on it. I'd never worked with a personal trainer before, but if I was going to start I wanted it to be someone like Scott who was smart, scientific minded and flat out obsessed with it. I was also attracted to his body-weight training approach. Being a weight lifting gym rat was never my thing, and I had always preferred body-weight style training. The fact that he did circus-type training as well was intriguing (handstands are no-joke crazy hard!). Anyhow. He's the real deal. Each session was always something different. He constantly was adapting the routines to fit my current needs (maybe I had a bit of an injury to work around, etc). We used Dexafit scans to track progress objectively. This review is long overdue, since I've been working with Scott for more than a year. My starting point was: A puddle on the floor. Today I am: A super strong and fit working mama of three - with fewer injuries and a capable and fit body! Seriously though, working with a trainer always felt too luxurious and specialized for me. I've done hundreds of hours of yoga, pilates, and I am an active person. It wasn't until I started working with Scott that I realized how important it is to have a specialist who can assess your individual body and needs and build a program around you. With Scott's small, personalized classes, he gives each person the attention and time they need to make steps appropriate to them. Scott has everything you'd want in a trainer / coach. He always approaches challenges with positivity and steps that are achievable and help you make progress. He's also flexible; when I wanted to start without any attention to diet, he supported me in my approach. Best of all, he holds me accountable by always showing up and being there to encourage me to move forward. Working with Whole New Body isn't cheap, but when I compare it to what I would have spent on massages, childcare, doctor's visits and PT visits over the same period, I'm 100% sure that the value is there. Now that my body is stronger, I have less pain, muscle tightness, and fewer injuries. The secret: all those other aches and pains that people complain about as they get older - you actually don't have to succumb to that! (I'm 40 in case you're curious). One other somewhat boring/logistical note - I really like how flexible the class schedule is - with three options per day you can always fit something in. Also, the studio is SUPER nice and classy. As happens with so many women, when I went through menopause, I gained 20 pounds. I hated carrying the extra weight, and I felt flabbier and worse about my body than I had since puberty. Just before my 51st birthday, I vowed to lose the extra weight, so I did some research and picked Whole New Body to help me get back into shape. The first thing Scott did was talk to me about my habits and experience and then create a diet suited to my specific needs. This is not a one size fits all experience. He really worked with me to figure out what would go with my lifestyle and tendencies. In our workouts, Scott paid very close attention to the limits of my body. As we went, he tailored his training to my specific capabilities, but he never made me feel like I was limited. Our sessions always stayed right on the edge of what I could comfortably do, pushing me to my furthest edge but never going past it. In the first three months we worked together, seeing each other twice a week, I lost 15 pounds. Subsequently, my schedule hasn't allowed me to maintain that pace, so Scott has given me pointers and has chosen exercises that I can reasonably do during longer breaks between sessions. "Whole" is really the operative word here, and I'd add holistic. Scott considers every aspect of my physical fitness: my diet, my workouts, things happening in my life, my age, and what I'm capable of doing, or not. He's wonderfully encouraging, always cheering me on and at the same time not allowing me to slack. I'm still on this path, but I've developed a confidence in myself to reach my goals. If I could give more stars I would. Highly recommend Scott Strong! I started training with Scott in September 2016. I was eating poorly and overweight by 30+lbs. Worse, I was borderline for more serious medical problems. Working with Scott is the best thing I've done for myself. I've lost 20lbs so far and gained muscle which I didn't think possible. I was imagining a good massage. What I got instead was far beyond that. Sky employs both active and passive stretching in his work, as well as many different modalities. He works with you, not on you, and explains everything as he goes. Sky encouraged me to stretch -- literally -- beyond what I thought were my limits, but he did it in a very conscious and careful way, always being sure to meet my body exactly where it was at. The result was that I felt looser than I had in quite a while, and much less sore than I expected. Then he showed me several stretches I could do on my own, and made sure I did each one correctly. I was referred to Scott by a friend...I had continuous tingling and numbing with my arm/elbow/shoulder...Major issues! He was very intuitive on what and where my pressure points were, physically and mentally (WORK)!!! LOL! He managed to reset my whole my body pretty much...knocked the level of pain and discomfort down by at least 4 notches and managed to get me more aware with my breathing and how it affects my whole body! I was feeling a bit deflated after a summer full of stressful days and noticed I wasn't able to progress in the dance and aerial programs as much as I wanted to. Turns out for all my former ClassPass adventures, I was lacking the serious strength I needed to move forward with say, Lyra or Aerial Silks. Scott worked with me to develop a strength training program that developed my muscle groups evenly, while still focusing on the upper body strength I'm missing. He really tailors the workouts to my energy levels, and current strength. We even started working on handstands, a personal goal of mine. Throughout all our workouts, Scott was also great about me *why* we were doing each exercise or variation. The information really helped me make a better connection to the way I was moving my body. I had my first experience with Sky's massage two years ago and I have seen him many times since. He is an expert in his field. I love bodywork and Sky is one of my favorites for several reasons: 1.He has a really smooth and fluid touch. I think massage can easily be compared to music. Sometimes the nature of a melody moves you to a place of bliss and that is how I feel about Sky's massage. Through the melody of his flow, you can enter a place of meditative healing. 2.He is very professional and experienced. The thing with massage is that someone can have great intentions, but without knowledge and experience you can only go so far. Scott knows the muscular system and uses his experience to help you feel better in your body. 3. He goes to your house, which is awesome!!! ALL I can say is OMG!!! I have NEVER, I repeat NEVER had a massage like the one Scott just gave me. I laughed, I cried, I even got a charlie horse BUT I tell you you made me want to shout!! Had a shoulder dislocation surgery in 2016 and after that I stopped going to the gym and combined with my bad eating habits made me gain a lot of weight. I felt bad that way I looked and ultimately decided to get a personal trainer who could work with my injured shoulder and also motivate me to get back in shape. After interviewing a few personal trainers I zeroed down to Scott. He was not only confident about his approach towards training me but was also extremely knowledgeable. We scheduled a call and spoke for an hour about what he could do to make my shoulder strong and help me reduce weight. I started my training with Scott on 06/26/18. I did a Dxa scan which Scott recommended and was shocked to see 206lbs with 30% body fat. Scott put me on a calculated diet and training two days a week with him and cardio the remaining days. Within 60 days I lost 14lbs of fat and 24% body fat. I started feeling extremely strong and confident about myself which motivated me to push my body even more. I got into a motorcycle accident and I injured my wrist which restricted my movements, it was disappointed and Scott assuresed me not to be stressed and helped me train with what I could do and not force me with any exercise that would stress my wrist. We were pretty much only doing lower dody and abdomen. Today on 09/27/18 I did another DXA scan and was overwhelmed to find I was 180lbs with 18.9% body fat and also gained 6lbs of muscle. All the credit goes to Scott for this amazing transformation. He is the best Trainer I have had who had immense knowledge about the body and was able to work extremely well with my injured shoulder and strengthening it. My Mom had a stroke last year on Mother's Day and is wheelchair bound. Scott has been working with her on a regular basis to relieve the tension in her back, arms, shoulders, etc. She is relearning to walk and talk again and Scott has played a huge role in her recovery. My Mom's body goes through so much physically with squat pivoting her to bed, turning her in bed, sitting in a wheelchair, and learning to walk again. It's hard on the body. I have been looking for a good massage therapist in the city for some time. My search is now over! Scott is excellent - whether it's craniosacral work for my headaches or just generally working the kinks out of my sore and knotted-up muscles, he gets the job done. Immediate, transformative fitness training. A total game-changer... Just a quick update: My husband has continued to get regular massages from Scott every 5-6 weeks and thoroughly enjoys them. Recently he asked Scott to provide prenatal massages to me, and now I have had two, both at full term. (In fact one was last night and I am scheduled for a c-section on Monday!) Scott did very well with both prenatal massages. I lied on either side and only a short time on my back, and at the end of each one I felt such relief from the typical pregnancy aches and pains. I noticed that positive feeling lasts much longer than usual since his services are in-home. (Often when I've had a massage at a spa, the warm feelings start to reduce as quick as I venture back out into traffic.) Sky is a wonderful, caring, highly skilled massuese. He has strong large hands and he himself is no small fellow. This allows him to "go deep" without straining. I've had other massueses who felt like they were just at their physical limit while doing some difficult moves on me. Not so with Sky. I have been getting monthly massages from Scott for the past 9 months. That experience alone is worth 5 stars, but that's not what this review is about. My wife is 9 months pregnant and she just had two 90 minute prenatal massages from Scott in the past 7 days. She had an absolutely wonderful experience and I highly recommend this as a gift from a husband to their pregnant wife. The fact that Scott comes to your house makes it very convenient for the pregnant woman to have the massage in her own environment. Scott is very skilled with different massage techniques and it made for an incredibly relaxing experience for my wife.
