This is a review you never want to have to write... to be honest…read more When the time came for us to make the difficult decision to send our 11.5 year old bulldog to heaven, I knew that we wanted him to be comfortable and stress-free at home. I had used another pet hospice company a few years prior for our first dog, but they were not open on Sunday and I wanted to make the appointment for Monday. Lap of Love came up on Google as another option in Grand Rapids - they are new in the area in the last 1.5 years. They were open and taking calls on a Sunday and after going through their website, i decided that I was comfortable enough to make the phone call. I had my hesitations due to the company being a national chain but reviews put me at ease; the local Grand Rapids Lap of Love is a local vet team. The initial phone call was easy enough. The person who I spoke with was very sympathetic and let me cry and compose myself multiple times while making me feel comfortable to do so. I appreciated that they did take payment at that time, so I would not have to worry about it the day of. They sent a conformation email after the phone call with any info we may need. The day of Dr. Kelly called to let me know she was on her way and gave me her ETA. When she arrived she was very kind, gentle, and sympathetic to the situation. She explained everything in detail before she started, talked with us about our boy, and made the whole situation as easy as possible. She walked us through everything she was doing, always asking permission before she did anything. She put us at ease with her gentle nature and her compassion. She told us to cuddle him, lay with him, hold him, or whatever we wanted. She would work around us. Giving us the freedom to feel comfortable and not awkward during such a sensitive time. She took a paw print for us, offered to trim a lock of hair, and gave us a booklet on grieving for a pet before she left. As we had opted to take care of his remains, she made sure we were okay and had everything we needed and any questions we had. The following day she sent a very nice email expressing her sympathy and offering some support options, should we need it. I am so thankful for compassionate Dr.'s like Dr. Kelly who are there to help families in such a difficult time. Loosing a pet is hard and having to make the decision to end their suffering is gut wrenching and such a hard choice to make. I am very thankful for the option to do it at home where our dog was comfortable, stress-free, and relaxed. Should anyone find themselves in the situation where they have the luxury of letting their pet pass at home, I would highly recommend to look into at home euthanasia - Lap of Love was truly great.

I had a unique experience with Blue Pearl when my cat Barney went in for what I thought would be a…read morefairly routine surgery, but ended up being a roller coaster of ups and downs over the course of a week that fortunately ended on a very good note. I can confidently say that all the doctors, nurses, and staff that I have encountered truly care about our pets. I spent hours in the ICU comforting my cat while he was fighting to recover and I saw tears in doctors eyes for other patients & clients; I heard the unfiltered surprise and determination in their voice when they would be called away on (another) emergency, and I felt their professionalism as well as compassion in every interaction. I wish I could name everyone to whom I am eternally grateful for taking care of our sick pets, but I know there were people on my pets' care who I never even met because they were behind the scenes! And I'm just as thankful for them as I am to the doctors and nurses who I did have the pleasure to meet. I trusted them with my pets' lives and I know they did everything they could to keep them healthy, even when circumstances don't always follow the path we'd wish. Thank you to everyone at Blue Pearl, we'd be lost without you!

Never do I want to leave a negative review for any business but I feel this one is granted…read more We drive 2 hours to Blue pearl after our dog had seizures from ingesting something toxic. Immediately they took her back and we were put into a room. The tech took notes from us and mentioned the vet would be in shortly. The tech then returned asking us to call the poison control center. We did that while waiting in the examination room. A gentleman came in to go over a quote of care ($6600) for keeping her overnight / 3-4 nights PRIOR to doing any care to assess what steps we could do to avoid the overnight care; example - bloodwork or xray. The vet came in to ask questions on other things she maybe got into. We knew exactly what she ate and had a bag with evidence from her puke. We asked the tech to start her on IV's and she took her back to do so. My husband asked to see the dog after an hour and our dog was never put on an IV. He took her bag to the examine room we were in and we continued to monitor her with no one checking in on us. After hour 5 we asked if bloodwork could be done to see if the toxins had entered her bloodstream or what she threw up was it. They took her labs and we waited another hour. We are now on hour 6. The people next to us in the room left because they were getting no care. After the bloodwork came back with no evidence of toxins, we asked for the cath to be removed, we payed our bill and left. There was no one else in the building seeking care and it was a cold, sterile environment with what seemed to be no-one who actually cared what happened to our dog. We had to continually ask. We spent 6 hours there (until 2:30am) and only received bloodwork that we asked for. Not an IV of fluids that we asked for within the first 2 hours. It was disheartening driving 2 hours to a hospital, for care of our dog to then end up in a place where you hope someone reads this, makes a better decision to not seek care for their sick family member here. It wasn't a pleasant environment. And I'm sad I even have to write this review. All they are about is money and putting that prior to care. Hope you get better care than we did, as well as the people next to us who left after hours of no attention.

You can tell that this is a locally owned and operated location, and the staff genuinely care for you and your fur babes. I normally am nervous about the costs of my cats' procedures and medications. Over time, I noticed that the customer service felt performative--what some call "West Michigan Nice." I expressed in a survey that I wished for more authenticity and genuine service. The office manager followed up with me, asking for examples, which I provided. Shortly after, I was told they had decided to part ways with no prior warning or explanation. Instead of a conversation about any supposed concerns with me as a client, they sent their lawyer to inform me that my relationship was being terminated--not because of the survey, but due to a "pattern of interactions" over the years. This was the first time I had ever been told anything like that. If there were actual concerns about me as a client, why was I never given a warning in nearly 8 years? The lawyer also stated they would not refund me for my Vaccines for Life program unless I signed a non-disparagement agreement, which I refused. Reading through my dog's medical records after being terminated, I discovered comments about me that I had never been made aware of. It felt as though they had been secretly building a case against me while still taking my money for years. This experience has left me deeply disappointed and disheartened. I entrusted them with my beloved dogs, particularly my pup with Addison's disease, and never expected such cold treatment from a place that claims to be compassionate. Additionally, after my survey response, they changed their survey format to no longer ask, "What could we do to be more satisfactory?" Instead, they now only ask for rating scales--further proving that they only wanted feedback that made them feel good, not feedback that would actually help them improve. I wanted to work this out with them because my dogs received good medical care, but at the end of the day, I realized this wasn't the place for me or them. I don't recommend this clinic to others for these reasons. This review reflects my personal experiences and opinions.
