Wrong order and absolutely terrible service. When I explained that they sent me the wrong bagel they took no responsibility for the mistake. Further more they asked me to return the bagel to PROVE that it was wrong. I told them I can't return it because I'm allergic to one of the items on the sandwich and had to throw it away, but that I took a picture. They still demanded that I return the bagel. I got frustrated and ended up yelling because there was literally nothing I can do since the bagel was thrown out into the incerator...(again allergic, needed out of the house asap). I usually shop at the Food Town down the road (they have their own issues - do not buy salmon there unless your like salmon that smells super-fishy) but when it's freezing out I go to Wholesome Factory because it's closer to my apartment. I've never used the deli section on the left side (as you enter the store) so can't speak about that. My review is about the grocery side on the right. The servers are usually friendly and professional. The produce section is very good for a store of this size, and there's a good selection of packaged goods, especially the herbal tea section. But steer clear of their sliced bread - they don't carry standard brands like Pepperidge Farm and they don't remove old bread from the shelf - they can and will sell you bread that is over two weeks old. I neglected to check the date, like a sucker, until I took a bite out of the bread (Rudi's organic multi-grain oats) and wondered why it was so stale. I bought it today, January 17 but the date was December 30. I didn't find this loaf on some forgotten back shelf - it was right in the center of the middle shelf. $9.99 down the drain. And almost every bag of frozen vegetables I've bought there has been unusable thanks to freezer burn. Last week the organic broccoli I bought was covered in brownish ice (ugh!) So it's good for some types of groceries, not so good for others. read more

We went for smoothies and they were pretty good! I got the "original smoothie" with strawberry, banana, and peach. I liked it a lot!! They were 5.99$. Unfortunately they did mess up two of my friends orders. Hello: I order from this place once or twice a month. While it is not the cheapest place around, the takeout food is very good. One thing that you not expect is pizza. WF's pizza is first class!! There's a local pizza place here on Roosevelt Island, and it's ok, but if I want pizza it's going to be from Wholesome Factory! I've had their small 9" pizza and the 16". For whatever reason, I slightly prefer the 9." I can't say why. Just ask for "well-done." You'll thank me later. I also get matcha lattes from here and their "healthy salad." Both are good values! This place is SO freaking CLEAN inside too. Sometimes they don't have what I want because they've run out. Other than that I recommend them highly! read more

Horrendous service and treatment . If I could give less than 1 star I'd do it in a heartbeat. I didn't have a yelp account until today, I downloaded the app and made an account just to make this review. I am absolutely disgusted with the service and treatment of this establishment. I live right upstairs from the wholesome factory and they rarely get the order right, they don't correct their mistakes and have an attitude when you attempt to get the right thing or fix the order or give lame excuses for their foolish & silly mistakes like, "the manager isn't here" Today I spend $16 on two fresh pressed juices. I've been getting juice delivered to my house for the last 3 days and it always comes full to the top of the cup (as it should), but today half the cup was filled with foam. I called to see if they could send a full cup of juice to make up the difference for the foam. The woman on the phone was not helpful at all and said that the manager isn't in and she can't help me and I have to wait until tomorrow to get the extra juice I paid for OR a refund. So she made a mistake and even tho I paid for the juice I also have to pay for this woman's mistake. I'm disgusted how the really poured my cup half way with foam and thought it was okay to send it out to me that way for $8. Other than that they hold onto expired food. Many times I have bought molded tumeric root, molded naan bread, molded cheese and had to return it so their grocery selection isn't they good either. Good quality food and good variety, a little expensive and it feels like the prices go up at least once a month. My only real complaint is that there is often a long-line at the register for no good reason. The same person running the register is the same person stopping to make coffee, answering the phone, and communication with the kitchen. So it's easy to see how the line can easily become long. - This is NYC, nobody has time for this. There have been numerous times I simply walk past in the morning and go somewhere else because the line is too long. My suggestion would be, especially since prices go up so often, is to either hire more staff OR, when the line has more than 3 people, have one person dedicated to making coffee and one person dedicate to clearing the line. My co-workers and I call this the organic market. Awesome establishment! Prices are fair for the most part, HUGE selection of fresh fruit and groceries and some imported products from Asia as well, which is cool too! Lots of fresh herbs like dill, parsley and cilantro available in the back. They have a salad bar w/ a variety of options and they mix your salad for you on the spot. But the station that I frequent the most is their pizza station. All of their pizza is made IN HOUSE and is delicious! I love their pepperoni and their mushroom! I live on Roosevelt Island, so this store is just less than 100 steps away. It's very convenient for take out on my way home. Tonight I wanted something delivered fast, so I ordered from Wholesome Factory (through Seamless) instead of my favorite pizza place in Astoria. Big mistake. When my food hadn't arrived in an hour, I called them. When they called me back after talking to their delivery guy, they said the delivery guy supposedly 1) rang my doorbell (he did not, I would have heard it AND my dogs would have barked their heads off if anyone rang the bell or knocked), 2) heard 'someone' say "the delivery is here" or something to that effect (a lie, unless it was the neighbor who let the delivery guy into the building but even that doesn't make sense). The best part? HE LEFT MY FOOD ON THE FLOOR....DURING A PANDEMIC. WHY WOULD YOU LEAVE A PIZZA BOX ON THE FLOOR...EVER??? I called Seamless to complain, so they called Wholesome Factory but the store didn't want to take any responsibility. Seamless refunded me anyway which I appreciate. I wasn't asking for a refund though. Wholesome Factory needs to take responsibility somehow. This is the same store where sometime in March/April (COVID-19 in full swing), I ordered a Philly Cheese Steak. As the the guy cooking it was about to slice it in half before wrapping it, his knife fell on the floor (where he was standing/cooking). He just wiped it with a rag then was about to slice my sandwich with the same knife. I called him out. He picked up another knife. I told him NOT to slice it in half anymore, he still did. Newer grocery store for roosevelt island. This place is clean and has reasonable prices for certain groceries. Plus it is a great alternative to Gristedees. This store has a snack and salad bar where they have a variety of sandwiches (the curry chicken salad is really good), pizzas, smoothies, and sushi. I am giving this place 3 stars because of the delivery aspect. The past few times that I have ordered delivery through Grub hub the food has been ice cold. The checkout girl is very rude and lazy! She asked me "Do you need a bag?" I said yes please and she gave me a paper bag and lean back looking at me. Used to be somewhat good pizza, but now it's horrible. Pizza taste like sourdough bread with can tomato on the top or if I would use movie quote...pizza taste like feet! Store is overpriced, their produce is priced as organic, but it is clear that they are getting it from the produce market terminal in the Bronx and selling it for over 100% margin. Actually I believe that every single item is above 100% margin in this store. Too bad I can't review it under 0 stars. This place on the Roosevelt Island is a small bakery, salad bar/ pizza and food place plus a store. I was skeptical at first but during the lockdown I tried pizza, muffins, cheesecakes from this place and everything is made from very fresh ingredients. It's slightly expensive compared to Manhattan because it's on the island but the taste and freshness of ingredients is worth the price. Had to come back and take off some stars for selling expired products. I had bought some whole wheat bread two days ago (overpriced, of course) and have been eating it until I noticed something today -- Mold! Disgusting! I have never in my life needed to pay such close attention when buying bread (especially at an "organic" market)... I usually just check if it looks good, generally speaking, and make the purchase. Obviously I have learned my lesson and won't make this mistake again, regardless of how "fresh" or "organic" a store claims to be... To top it off, I was looking for the date to see exactly how long ago it had expired and to my surprise, there was NO DATE! Who packages the "Rudi's Organic Bakery" brand of bread and how is it legal to sell a perishable food without an expiration date??? They've gotten my order right 95% of the time so can't complain - food is solid - customer service in store can be better but I'm almost never there in person so all good.
