Blueberry and maple twist soft serve on a cone

We've been going back every so often and still love it here. The staff is always friendly and the rotating soft serve flavors are always fun. Although the Vinal Spuckie is still my favorite sub/sandwich here so far, the Best Cellar was great too. And I hope that the black raspberry soft serve flavor becomes a regular in the rotation or comes back once it's gone!

Friendly service and solid sandwich. I got the ham & pimento, very generous on the pimento cheese. It was delicious but could have used something crunchy. The bread was delicious and the size was good for the price. I see what the hype is about and look forward to trying other things!

Delicious sandwiches. Amazing soft serve. Lovely people. Got the tuna and it was very good - no onions in it!

Omg...they weren't lying when they said the soft serve ice cream at vinal general is AMAZING!! I went over the weekend because I had a major soft serve craving and was so excited to see they had seasonal fall flavors. I had a pumpkin pie soft serve with spiced maple cookie crumble topping. It was beyond delicious.

I saw Vinal General Store on Boston Globe's list of best sandwiches in the Boston area, so I knew I had to give it a try. I came on a Saturday at 11:45 and there was plenty of seating available. I had preordered my sandwich online and pickup was a breeze. I ordered the Best Cellar: turkey, cheddar, maple mustard, pickles, and crispy fried shallots on Iggy's country white bread. It was definitely a very tasty sandwich! The pickles tasted really fresh and flavorful and I loved the crunch of the fried shallots. My only small complaint was that there wasn't much turkey on the sandwich. I expected a bit more at this price point. Still very tasty overall and I will definitely be back to try more sandwiches!

Yummy sandwich (balanced flavors and textures) and peach green tea! The soft serve looked really good, will be back to try sometime!

My new fav place! Great soda/non-alc beverage options! Delicious dole whip soft serve (non dairy too!). Incredible sandwiches (on gluten free bread!!!)- my favorite is the green goddess! I hope to return soon to try their turkey sandwich!

This place has some of the best sandwiches I've ever had. The best cellar is absolutely amazing. If I had so come up with a perfect sandwich, that would be it. This time I tried the veggie thanksgiving special and it was awesome! The cranberry apple butter really made it. I look forward to stopping here every time I'm in the area - I only wish I could get the sandwich sent to me year round.

The sandwiches and service are incredible. I will be running back here to try more of their menu. The Vinal Spuckie was a delicious sandwich.

Wow. The Italian sandwich here really is AMAZING. It's the best I've ever had. Full of meat, saucy, spicy, crunchy, great quality bread. It's worth the drive if you don't live in the neighborhood, seriously. It's not your average deli italian sub- you can taste the quality ingredients. Best part is the hots Mayo- I want to buy this on its own.

I have to give a shout out to Vinal for perfecting the Italian Grinder. I'm always on a quest for an Italian grinder that tastes as good as it looks, but most suffer the same fate of being rather bland and fatiguing my palate after a few bites. Vinal avoids this through the addition of a perfect amount of spice (hots mayo), acid and sweetness (pickles and smoked maple vinaigrette), and freshness (lettuce, tomato, and onion) that work to balance and enhance the deli meats that are piled on thick. Further, the ciabatta is absolutely delicious and has the structure to keep this brilliant work of sandwich engineering intact. Wash it down with some soft serve ice cream (the strawberry and vanilla twist with rose strawberry shortcake crumble was reminiscent of the one from ice cream trucks but much better) and leave feeling much happier than you were when you first came in.

I had been to Vinal Bakery before but this was my first time at the general store next door. It was so cute! There is a counter for eating in and a little store with some food items and gifts to browse while you wait. I got the Veggie Supreme sandwich with housemade pimento cheese, shredded lettuce, tomato, dill pickles, pickled red onion & red wine vinaigrette and it was delicious! It was very flavorful and had a little kick to it but got a little soggy with the country loaf bread so I'd get it on a ciabatta roll next time.

The Vinal Spukie is by far the best version of the Italian sandwich I've ever had. I'm looking forward to trying other sandwiches.

Typical overpriced liquor store in an expensive part of Boston in the west suburbs right off of Commonwealth. I don't drink so I don't care how overpriced it is - I just came here for some water. But if you're coming here for liquor, it might be a little out of your price range. Then again you're on Yelp so you're probably not poor. Lol. But it's still a good store because I know a lot of you love to drink and these stores are invaluable to you then basically. Pretty good selection too, and friendly enough. Prices are on the expensive side, but fairly standard for Harvard Square prices. They have the customary selection of beers, wines, liquors, and mixers, but they also have a section of Harvard apparel (like T-shirts, sweatshirts) and Harvard memorabilia (like keychains, mugs, coasters, etc), so it is a great place to also pick up some souvenirs while you are shopping for your beer! I also like that they sell accessories to complement your drinking, like plastic martini glasses and plastic shot glasses for a party. Their hours online might not necessarily reflect when you are able to buy alcohol. I walked in after 11pm one night and even though they were still open, I was told that they cannot sell alcohol after 11pm (not sure if that is only on specific nights or if this is a nightly rule).

There are seriously, seriously good beer selections that rotate (because they always try to get limited-run, rare stuff - and it runs out) and awesome wine stocked too. Ask Mike (look for the beard) for a recommendation and watch his face light up while he asks you your preferences and tailors his response. His knowledge is encyclopedic and his enthusiasm is infectious. He really makes the place special. Hard to reconcile these other reviews calling the place pretentious. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Michael. Michael is simply a genius when it comes to wine and the insights that he shares with his customers are fascinating and incredibly helpful. I've walked away each time with a greater appreciation and understanding of wine in general, and have thoroughly enjoyed our conversations. This has quickly become my "go-to" store and you'd be hard pressed to find someone as knowledgable as Michael. Importantly, you'll walk out knowing you made a quality purchase without having exceeded your budget, and that's always a recipe for success. Go, and ask for Michael - you won't regret it.
