Lady Copacabana is a new Providence food truck boasting deep fried rissolis, essentially, the Brazillian empanada. And--oh noes--this is a dangerous little late night guilty pleasure. I tried the pulled pork rissoli tonight. Not only is the deep fried dough so perfectly thick, crispy, and battered, but the empanada is generously portioned, relatively inexpensive (compared to most of the other trucks on Thayer), and wondrously stuffed w/ a sweet, perfectly mixed pulled pork that literally melts in your mouth. All emanadas are made to order. All come out sizzling hot from the fryer and perfectly tasty. The real deal in street food. I was chatting with the owner a bit tonight while waiting for my rissoli and he just returned from a winter sabbatical in Brazil visiting his mother--mmhmm, this is as authentic as it gets. Brazil on wheels in our very own, Providence. I've got nothing but love. **UPDATE: I just went back for more. Tried the Chicken Quesadilla and the Mac&Cheese. I'm realizing that what I really love about these empanadas is that despite their deep fried nature, the filling tastes so fresh, perfectly mixed, and clean that it really doesn't feel like your typical greasy spoon. She was kind and comforting on the phone while being the upmost professional.
