We stumbled across this "hidden" gem this past week while visiting the southeast lighthouse. Normally we are in BI in September (off season) and haven't had the delight in partaking in what will forever be my favorite meals. My kids both had grilled cheeses which I think is pretty standard but they said they were the best grilled cheeses in the county. Ha. They also had soft served Italian ices which I have never seen before so that was pretty cool and refreshing. Now to the highlight my husband and I got the hot buttered lobster roll.... Amazing. Simply done but loaded with lobster and perfect balance of sweet, salty, buttery goodness. We enjoyed so much it peaked our interest in their cold mayo lobster roll. I have never had a cold lobster roll and to be honest it didn't sound very appealing compared to buttery warmth but we went for it and it was also amazing! I can't decide which I liked better. We returned to the food truck two days later because after speaking with the owner on our first visit we knew we couldn't leave the island without trying his lobster grilled cheese. Wait to you see the picture I have of that. Beautiful. Lobster, bacon, tomato, cheese. Extremely filling. I wanted to stop eating after half but I couldn't because it was so good. Cute picnic tables to sit at and quick wait time for food. But besides the amazing food the thing I liked the most was speaking to Andre and having an authentic experience. Every restaurant I walked into this trip felt so commercialized . It was nice to have a conversation and support a family run business that isn't another tourist trap. Thank you again ! read more

I love love love this place!!! But PLEASE update your hours so that they are consistent across all platforms. FB, the official website, and block island website all had different hours listed. Most we saw showed opened until 4:30. Some showed 5:00, and then I guess it was finally FB that showed you closed at 3. We were so bummed. We'd been looking forward to having our last meal at southeast delights. We rushed to get there by 4, and saw it was closed. I almost cried. How can you not give 5 stars to the absolute best lobster roll on the island? The lobster tastes fresh and is plentiful, the bun is wonderful and the preparation is flawless. The young people working here are very nice and the picnic tables are clean and well spaced so you aren't sitting on top of another group. I'm not sure whey I'm draw to the SE Lighthouse but I seem to come here on every trip and often I've walked by this food stand. Never again! I'm coming to the food stand from now on and maybe I'll walk by the lighthouse! Seriously, if you enjoy a traditional (cold with mayo) lobster roll this is a must visit place if on Block Island. If you're doing a loop around Block Island, Southeast Light Delights is one of the last places to eat between Mohegan Bluffs and the Block Island Airport. It's a small food truck on the grounds of Southeast Light. The lobster roll seems to be the thing to get here. I was excited for the unique flavors of soft serve (cake batter and brownie batter), but my cone was just ok. There isn't much seating, especially on a busy summer day, but it's cute that they provide picnic blankets for sitting on the grass. The prices are a bit steep and they are CASH ONLY so be sure to come with a full wallet! read more

Fantastic new food truck (!!) on Block island, located at the Southeast Lighthouse. They have only been opened for one month (as of August 2014) and already I can say that they offer the best lobster roll I've had on the island. And I 've been coming to BI for many, many years! High prices but absolutely worth it and deserving for the exceptional quality of food. Menu is small but interesting - hot or cold lobster rolls, lobster roll with bacon and manchego cheese, lobster grilled cheese...also excellent options for non-lobster lovers including caprese sandwich, grilled cheese or hot dog. The hot buttered lobster roll ($22) was incredible. A perfectly grilled roll with warm pieces of large lobster meat - not mixed with anything!!! That's how a lobster roll should be. No mayo, no celery...just fresh lobster and warm butter to pour over it all. And lemon of course! Fantastic! The caprese sandwich was also excellent - very fresh tomatoes, basil and mozzarella on a grilled bun with delicious balsamic vinegar. We were so happy to try this new food truck! They even have picnic blankets available to borrow to eat and lounge and enjoy the views for the beautiful Southeast Lighthouse. Don't miss this spot! read more

I came home excited to write this review. By far the best lobster roll I've had in ages, maybe ever. Having grown accustomed to solid red hook lobster pound and Luke's lobster staples in NYC, i was instantly reminded what the highest quality can taste like. Southeast lighthouse is a hike up the hill--need bike, moped, cab, car, or feet willing to walk the 1 1/2 mile drag from town. The food truck sits at the base of the lighthouse. They provide blankets for lunches picnics on the grounds and a playing card to match your order when called out. The service was friendly (he informed me that he caught this lobster himself that morning!) and the roll itself unbelievably delicious. Roll: hot and crunchy with BIBB lettuce. Major points. I'm guessing at least a lb of lobster meat. 21.50 . Can be served cold with mayo or hot with butter. They also make a satisfying lobster grilled cheese, carry local soda company sodas, and hot dogs for the kiddos. COMPLETELY worth the schlep...already wishing I had another! The heirloom tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, balsamic vinaigrette and a basil pesto to top it off- all on a buttered and toasted New England Roll!!! Let's just say on my second trip over the ferry back to Block Island the week I was on vacation, I went back for another light, fresh and delicious lunch! The food is fantastic, that is irrefutable. However, as someone who has been on the island a long time, I highly would not recommend comparing it to other restaurants here, (as the app has done). What you get is a food truck at a scenic location with very good food. Nothing against it or the food but it is a food truck not a restaurant. Loooooobster. Buuuuuuuutter. Wow this place was an indulgent treat. Stopped by for a bite based on Yelp reviews and was not disappointed. Pricey but worth it. I got the hot lobster roll with butter. With butter is an understatement. The succulent lobster meat (which wasn't overstuffed but was substantial) was served on a tasty crispy roll which was already drenched in the golden nectar of the gods. And then a butter dipping cup on the side. Omg. Butter. The other meal was the lobster grilled cheese which I am absolutely coming back for with a perfect thick cut and buttery sourdough as its foundation, lobster meat, cheese, and we added crispy bacon and some of the best sweet homegrown yellow & red tomatoes I've had. Tomatoes were thick cut so we ended up eating them separately but they were wonderful. Kudos to the staff on hand for serving up great food and great conversation. Oh my goodness! You wouldn't think it was that difficult to get a really good hot lobster roll in New England, but it is! Now maybe my standards for an excellent taste treat like lobster rolls, is too picky, but look no further that Southeast Light Delights!! We were touring the Block Island Southeast Lighthouse and when walking in, saw that they served Del's Frozen Lemonade! Had to stop and get one, that my husband and I shared! The lady in front of me in line, was picking up her Hot Lobster Roll and I all but drooled on her lunch. We asked her and her husband how was it and they both just nodded, good, good, good!! After looking at the amazing scenery from Southeast Lighthouse property, on our way out, we had to stop and get one of these, taste bud inducing creations. It was more like great, great, great! Finally, I found the perfect lobster roll, without having to drive to Maine. Connecticut, where we are from, doesn't have any decent ones, and once you've had a great one, all the others are awful. If you happen to be lucky enough to be on Block Island, and lucky enough to be visiting SE Lighthouse- don't miss this fabulous food truck. We stumbled across this place while visiting the lighthouse, and it was by far the best food I had while on Block Island. My friend and I shared the caprese sandwich - fresh heirloom tomatoes like you can only get when they're in their prime season, delicious fresh mozzarella and unbelievable bread. This is an amazing little stop for anyone who loves simple seafood and finds themselves spending a day on Block Island. My family and I were on our way to the Bluffs (walking from in town... not a good idea) and found this gem right next to the beautiful Southeast Lighthouse. We saw a sign for food and thought it good to pick up a snack, not thinking much of it. I ordered the Chipotle Lobster Roll, my mom the Lobster Grilled Cheese, and my dad the Caprese Sandwich, and they were all such pleasant surprises. The lobster was well cooked for both my mom and I; her sandwich was outstanding and mine (although bit heavy on the mayo unfortunately) was also phenomenal. Overall, everyone enjoyed their food immensely. Such a wonderful surprise stop. read more
