My family went to Mix to celebrate my nieces graduation and things went down hill very quickly. This restaurant is not accessible for people with mobility issues. If you can't handle stairs do not come. The website's statement regarding it's accessible patio was not accurate. It looked like one existed but it was closed and they were not seating people there. Sometimes mistakes are made, and websites are not updated... but, my niece had confirmed via phone that this patio was accessible. We were completely blindsided. Members of our family ended up just going back to the hotel because we were a party of 14 people on graduation weekend with no other options. Furthermore, There were only two bathrooms and they were on the first floor. If the patio had been open, these bathrooms would not have been accessible for anyone with mobility issues sitting on that patio. And there was a line, and no soap in one of the two bathrooms On the good side, the dining room was pretty and open air. It was a nice atmosphere and the waitstaff was good. But the food was expensive, and disappointing for the price and the hype. The onion roll in the bread basket was fantastic, and the sour dough was ok, but I didn't love the weird unchopped ceaser salad with discs of bread and parm. It was just frustrating to eat even if the flavors were good. My husband didn't really like the buccatini. I can't really speak for anyone else in our party. It was really going to be a high bar to make up for members of our family having to leave and not being able to celebrate with us. It could probably be a great place if they just got their act together. Other things to keep in mind are that parking in this part of town is beyond insane. read more

A brunch experience you definitely want to arrive hungry to!! I went to Sunday brunch at Sift bakery and I cannot wait to come back. You pay a flat rate for the food where it is a buffet style and you get the option to choose from a full breakfast (hot meal). Our waitress was so nice and was great about checking in on our dining experience. We definitely ate our money's worth! We started off at the pastry bar, I enjoyed the guava and cheese danishes & a mini chocolate croissant. Their spinach and cheese danish was also so tasty!! Then made our way through the charcuterie bar where there was an assortment of fine cheeses and meats, as well as the option for a fruit parfait which my friend really enjoyed. Finally, our favorite part of the buffet was the raw bar (which we could not stay away from). The oysters and clams were so fresh and cleaned exceptionally well- their mignonette was one of the best that I've had! The last 'course' of brunch was a dessert tower!!! Ambiance is beautiful. $65 price tag for brunch is steep. Was it worth it? The jury is still out. It includes a buffet of raw bar (oysters, shrimp and clams), a couple of side salads, cheeses, meats. The pastries and deserts that are included are underwhelming. Think smaller versions and less popular options from Sift bakery downstairs. Like, come on... you have beautiful baked goods for sale downstairs but you provide basic, small samples for the buffet? This was disappointing. We could order one a la carte entree for our main. I asked the server her recommendation between 2 dishes. I didn't end up eating my meal as it was not cooked as ordered and frankly, was not that good (avocado toast). If you are going to command a large price tag for brunch, it should feel special. This didn't quite. Finally the deserts were all just not that good. Each of the confections were pretty but sickeningly sweet. The other dessert options just didn't meet the mark. There are so many delicious offerings downstairs that are hard to choose from. I was blown away by how bad the desert choices we were given on our (5)? towers were. The service was ok. We were a party of 20. We had one server. I have worked in many restaurants. Overall an average experience. Waitstaff were kind and courteous but service was slower than we're used to in NJ. We got the strawberry salad as a starter. I ordered the zucchini pesto fusilli and my husband ordered the seared tuna. The salad had good flavor but they definitely skimped on the berries. The nuts were also so crushed up that there was no satisfying crunch as there normally would be (and frankly they skimped on the nuts too). Pasta was over cooked, but had delish zucchini chips on top. The tuna had good flavor but it wasn't fully seared. The restaurant has a wonderful ambience in the evening. Good food. Good drinks. Good service. However, one suggestion to make this place better: a bathroom. Mix has no bathrooms. Sure, they are owned by The Sift Bakery downstairs, which has two single person bathrooms. So, if you're upstairs at Mix, dressed up with your date, enjoying expensive drinks and swanky apps, and have to use the bathroom - you have to go downstairs and into Sift and wait in line with families and children and moms with strollers. This visit has been a long time coming. I love Mystic and I love Sift, so hitting up Mix Rooftop was high on my list. We got there around 3:30, so all they offered was drinks and the small plate options. I would have loved to try one of the large plate offerings, but we shared a bunch of small plates and were super happy with what we had. We had three orders of the Crispy Pork Ribs, mostly because they were FANTASTIC! The Saki Soy Glaze was out of sight! These were both crispy and pull off the bone tender. The pickled ginger and candied chilis were a great compliment and the peanuts gave it a nice additional crunch. The Ousters were excellent. Good flavored Oysters with the lemon granita and champagne foam were and excellent accompaniment. The Beef Carpaccio was outstanding. Great flavorless on the beef, the mix on top was a good addition and the bread was insanely flavorful, not a surprise. I really liked the Seacoast Mushroom Tart as well. Great flavor on the mushrooms and the ricotta really added to the overall taste of the dish. The Pork Belly Jerky was probably my least favorite, only because something has to be at the back of the pack. It too was tasty and both sauces it came with were great. So we had a reservation today with my group of 6. Made it here for brunch which was between 10-2pm. The top floor has a buffet style foods where you get one entre and a selection of raw bar, pastries and fruited and cheese section. The platter selection is in a small corner of the restaurant and had a decent amount. Not truly a buffet variation, but they were all delicious and good quality. Water and coffee are part of your A La Carte, price but all other drinks are extra $. We arrived at 1pm and it not busy at all and a nice breeze. We were seated promptly and give quickly how they operate and how to order. I enjoyed the coffee and cheese and raw bar. I definitely ate my fill of oysters and little necks. Once it was out, they were not restocked which makes me wonder if they only stock once and once out, that's it for other guest. Hopefully that's not the case. Plenty of plates and servers were active in clearly the empty plates. I ordered the You Style Eggs which was great and a nice big portion. We ordered a mimosa tower and it was enough for 4 of us. Oysters were delicious, and as fresh as can be with ice. This place is a favorite of ours and we travel from over an hour away a few times a year to enjoy dinner or their Sunday brunch so well worth the drive! The roof top is so comfortable no matter the weather, great views, clean and so inviting. My husband and I came for my birthday and a night with now kids so we really treated ourselves with offerings. I'm not always a fan of oysters but these were amazing with thru accomplishments. Had brunch here, and was blown away as expected! It was my wife and I and another couple. I love the format: you get one a la cart breakfast entree and then the buffet. This being Sift, the normal "whatever" continental breakfast becomes an experience in pastry delights where there are no wrong choices! They also have incredible seafood options, of which my wife had plenty. The fruit was fresh and delicious and they had several different salad bowls made up that were very difficult from which to choose. I had the Mediterranean (I think) and the citrus dressing. It was excellent. The star of this show of stars for me was the entree. I got the Crouque Madame. It was nothing short of spectacular. The Brioche and Gruyère custard together were like eating clouds! I could only eat about a third of it from all the buffet fare (our whole party had the same situation), but it was just as impressive as leftovers. The wife got the avocado toast, which was impressively piled high with fresh avocado. Incidentally, every egg served to our table (we had poached eggs and the other couple had sunny side up) were cooked to perfection. Just wanted to note that because if you're serving breakfast, well, eggs need to be done right. They were! Overall, this was not cheap, but worth the price for sure! read more

What a great spot! Both food and service were awesome! The manager was attentive and you can tell she enjoys what she does. We sat by the fire which kept us nice and warm for the evening. To drink I tried the mint to be, it was light and refreshing. Also had the espresso martini which was also pretty good. For an appetizer we ordered the crispy pork ribs. A little fatty for my liking but the flavor of the sauce was delicious. For my entree I had the half chicken. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The chicken was tender. The plate set up and pairing was unique in a good way. Also liked the croquette. I got to try the short rib rigatoni which I could not stop eating. For dessert we got to try the sampler. Had a bit of everything although ice cream by the fire didn't go too well, a bit messy as you could imagine. I like the atmosphere and vibe of the place. Words cannot describe how delightful each dish was. Such well balanced and complex flavors, even with the items not being particularly lean each dish still felt light and kept us wanting more. Adam was in and chatting with some patrons, you can tell he's great to work with and cares deeply about customers' experiences just by the conversations he was having with his staff. He gifted a signed copy of the Sift cookbook to some others at the bar and gave us a box of his bonbons. Honestly, I wish we recorded our reactions because never before have I shared an entire box of chocolates in one sitting and still wanted more. I'm endlessly impressed with Adam Young's skill and the team he has curated in Mystic. Chef Olivia Morey is equally impressive and I can safely say I will follow her on her future ventures. A Disheartening Experience at a Former Favorite My husband and I recently visited this restaurant to celebrate our pregnancy. I've dined here many times before and have always had exceptional service, so I was looking forward to another great experience. Unfortunately, this visit was deeply disappointing and upsetting. To give some context, I am white and my husband is Black. In all my previous visits, I've come with white friends--and never had an issue. This time, things felt markedly different. We waited around 15 minutes before our server even acknowledged us. When I asked about one of the drinks on the menu, she described it as "strawberry, sweet, and creamy." We went ahead and ordered both drinks and our food at the same time. However, when my drink finally arrived 15-20 minutes later, it had a pepper rim and was extremely strong--nothing like what was described. My husband's bourbon was oddly served in a tall flute glass. I even had him taste my drink to make sure it contained alcohol because it was so off. When I told the server it wasn't what I expected, she took it back to the bar and returned with the exact same drink, saying, "This is what you ordered. If you wanted something creamier, we have other options on the menu." I reminded her that I had asked beforehand and was told it would be sweet and creamy. Eventually, she brought me a cranberry juice instead. At that point, I asked for bread and was told it would cost $4 unless we were ordering food. I reminded her we had already placed our food order--only for her to realize she had completely forgotten to send it to the kitchen. She walked off, came back with bread, and didn't offer any apology. We waited a full hour from when we sat down before receiving our food--and it wasn't even brought by our server. She didn't check in on us until we were nearly finished. I had to ask for a box and later flag her down again to get the bill. What made this worse was watching her provide attentive, friendly service to other tables nearby, especially to the guests right next to us. She seemed overwhelmed, but it was clear she was prioritizing other patrons while neglecting our table. Given how wonderful this restaurant has been in the past, this experience was heartbreaking. The only difference this time was that I was with my Black husband. It's painful to think that may have influenced how we were treated--but after what we experienced, I can't ignore the possibility. I will not be returning, and I can't in good conscience recommend this restaurant to others. No one should be made to feel unwelcome or overlooked, especially in a place that once felt so inviting. read more

This is a cool place to check out for a drink. I am not sure how the food is because we only came to grab a round of drinks after grabbing the famous macaroons from their bakery (Sift) downstairs. They recently renovated the entire rooftop and it's beautiful. It's definitely an elevated space, with an elevated menu for food, and a great drink menu. I personally like how they categorized their drinks by "sweet", "herbacious" and "savory". I decided on the drink "Lavender Haze" to go with my macaroons and it was tangy and delicious. We will certainly be back again to try more food and cocktail options in the future! read more

What a Mother's Day experience we had. So happy to have mix at sift returning for the season. We were able to enjoy a nice roof top outdoor setting a few times last summer but this year it seems like sift has out done themselves. The new additional staffing seems to be on top of their game and provided an amazing experience. The new beverages on the menu are top notch and very different then you'll get anywhere else. In fact I tried the not so five star...pickle juice ice ‍ I had too!!! They've added some on the house bread tastings and desert samples as well. I recommend going enough to try them all. As for food we had tried several of the items last season so we opted for mushroom tart which was great paired with a local beer by beerd brewing. I'm truly sad to write this review, as I had such high hopes for Mix after hearing great reviews from others I know that have come here in the past. We had a reservation for 5pm, just my parents and I. We were seated and our waiter came over immediately to ask if we were ready to order cocktails, but we asked if we could have another minute to look over the menu as we just sat down. He walked away...and never came back. We didn't even have water in our glasses, and we let 20 minutes go by as patiently as we could. After looking around for him, he was nowhere to be found, so we flagged down another waitress and were assigned another server. We were later told that he "got sent home", so we're unsure what might've happened there... Regardless, we moved on with placing our orders. While waiting for our food, we were very distracted and honestly a bit alarmed by the giant, and I mean GIANT dragonflies that seemed to not know how to get back outside and were smacking against the plexiglass. I know there's probably not much to be done about that, but it didn't help the ambiance. We also were expecting more of a view and really only saw the parking lot out back. Now, the food: the charcuterie was okay, but everything was a bit oily. The skirt steak tasted burnt on the outside, but the worst dish was the chicken. It was supposed to be fried chicken, but when I picked it up, the breading slid off and was so slimy and greasy. I decided to cut into the breast piece instead hoping the white meat would be better, and taking a bite, I was very unsettled by the texture of a rubbery layer of skin. The meat was not very warm - I'm not sure if the chicken was undercooked or if it was boiled first and then attempted to be fried? Either way, it was unsettling and I only had the one bite. We did express everything to the waitress and manager, who were exceptionally kind and understanding, and they did assist in making it right by taking the cocktails off of the bill. I did just check out some other reviews and didn't realize that they just reopened after being closed for six months, so maybe they're still working out the kinks... Just so disappointed after hearing all the hype and being lovers of Sift Bakery, plus we live an hour and a half away. read more

We took our boat to Mystic for the labor day weekend. After spending the better part of Saturday afternoon browsing the downtown shops, we were in the mood for a quick snack and a drink. My wife suggested we try Mix. We are familiar with the bakery downstairs, one of our go to places in Mystic, but we hadn't been upstairs for a couple years. The space has been completely renovated and it's beautiful. The veiw now is wonderful. Even though it's open air,the new roof provides plenty of cover from strong sun or rain. There is an open kitchen, bar and plenty of seating at tables or along the railing . We chose seats at the railing to take advantage of the views and the great weather. You can see part of the Mystic River and what used to be the seaport marina which burnt down and is currently just open space. Having arrived at 330, we were limited to what we could order. We came during the bar and bites time. The bar is fully open but the kitchen only serves its small bites. We chose 2 of the lobster toasts and 2 of the beef tartar. Both we delicious. We also choose a specialty cocktail from the menu called death of a strawberry. It was equally delicious and surprisingly not super sweet. The service was prompt,friendly and very professional. Went Saturday night party with a party 10 to celebrate my son's engagement to his future bride. The manager sent over Perseco for the table which was very nice. Ordered apps for the table 2 of each, crispy ribs, beef carpaccio, hazel nut goat cheese fritters and shellfish mosaic. The presentation of the apps was beautifully done, fresh and seasoned perfectly. Oh I forgot to mention the bread was to die for. For entrees we ordered the ribeye which was cooked and seasoned perfectly the smoked duchess potatoes were the best I ever had, creamy and seasoned just right. Some folks ordered the A.T.Y burger. The burgers were cooked perfectly and the blend of the ground beef was simply delicious. At the end they gave us a sampler of chocolates that were scrumptious. This place is off the hook. But what really got me was my waitress. Rebecca. She's with out a doubt one of the best servers you will ever come across across. This was my 2nd time going to this establishment for my sons 14th birthday and as soon as she saw us she greats us from a distance and when she came over she reminded what we had last time we were there.
