Classic tale of boy meets van, van meets AC malfunction, boy meets mechanic....open on a Saturday? Oooh the plot thickens! We stopped in Kimball, SD and a fine crew at Overwegs Garage diagnosed the problem but didn't have the part in stock. We needed to be in Custer,SD by dark. Fond farewell to Gavin and very hospitable staff. We called Chris Burlison on Friday as we motored west to Rapid City. He said he'd be able to replace the air conditioner compressor we needed. We were duly concerned about a place called WickedWrenches (there's a story)but it is an amazing clean shop run by a super couple. We grabbed a rental van and headed to Devils Tower for the day. Upon our return, our van threw in one small glitch that required some extra time under the hood, but Chris and Tina worked on that too even though it robbed them of some scheduled family time at a Christian music festival in town. UPDATE* BETTY LU STILL RUDE! TALK TO HER DUDE! DONT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE NONE OF THE MECHANIC ARE ASE CERTIFIED!After the bad review I posted she reached out and said to bring the vehicle in at 1pm I agree, then calls back and asks if I can at 3pm, so again I adjusted and came in at 3pm. Was told by ONLY CERTIFIED mechanic in the shop that it was crossed wire and would change it, they both said free, so left the car and in the morning I had an invoice for 500 dollars. I went in to pay and question the invoice I had my ray ban meta glasses and recorded her again EXTREMELY RUDE and even called cops on me for trespassing now at this point im dealing with the main mechanic and he is laughing at her actions and walks outside with me and apologized for how she was acting, now that made her even more made that she jumps on a motorcycle and revs it so loud that we can't talk and drives off erratically and fast! Her husband then asks me "where can I get some glasses like that"......I have it all recorded and try to upload DONT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE NONE OF THE MECHANIC ARE ASE CERTIFIED! Poor service......only worked for one day i did bring my own parts but they are extremely rude and inexperienced didnt look certified kid looked 17yrs old and explained to me about how difficult it was im thinking the son......next day heater blower motor goes out again, I call the business back to see if anything they can do or take a look at what went wrong lady/owner is extremely rude.....called me back hang up on me again!.......kept screaming "we dont warrant parts you bring" i understand that but she was rude about looking at the car and burnt electronic smell coming from dash......dont go here! read more

Horrible. First walked in it was a shit show. Unorganized, he was grilling the front desk girl so bad I started feeling bad for her. I told them what was all wrong with my pickup and that I had all parts in the backseat. (Shocks were bad). He then proceeds to tell me it'll be Tuesday when he can get to working on it, I was told on the phone they would get me in at 1 p.m. Friday. I told the owner that and he got my pickup in at 1 p.m. Which was awesome much appreciated. Wife drove it home and mentioned it was shifting funny. I drove it on Sunday and it was shifting hard into 2nd and there was a delay from 4th to 5th. Called Monday morning and went in for a free diag, which was cool. And before I could even talk to him that morning at his shop he 86'd me. I asked for footage of test drive and work done on my pickup which he agreed to show me on phone and when I got there of course there was no test drive video. 10/10 would NOT recommend. read more

Called around to get prices for swapping my snow tires and was quoted $17.50 each. Best price in town! Made an appointment and was ready to go. When I came in for my appointment the mechanics couldn't find me I'm the computer but took my word for it and got me in right away. While the work was getting done a female employee (possibly owner?) came in and rang me up at $25 a tire. I explained that I was quoted at 17.50 and she begrudgingly changed to rate and blamed others for getting the rate wrong. When I got the bill I noticed I was charged $3 for "information access" and $3 for "hazardous waste" I asked why I was being charged these additional fees and was told "that just what we do now". Cannot say enough about "Turbo" and the rest of the crew at wicked wrenches! They went out of there way to help me. Have a Ram that the heater was putting out very little heat. And it was really cold !! Brought it in on Thursday morning. They diagnosed the problem, pulled out my entire dash. And by Friday at close, they had the parts replaced and the dash put back together perfectly. And that is huge undertaking!! Also they're really nice down to earth people !! Was told it was under new management but same woman 51% owner working behind the counter I was told. Had a new engine install labor was over 5,200.00 and was told it would take a few days to complete After dropping it off. It was in the shop bay for 2 weeks, I asked what was taking so long and was told by the mechanic they would work on other vehicles too. when I finally got it home it didn't run right, I had to fix a vacuum line they had ripped, replace/move wires they didn't put back where they needed to be. after taking the truck back because it was making strange noises they said it was the flywheel, Picked the truck up after hours and was told the spare keys would be left under the driver seat after locking the doors, the spare keys were nowhere to be found. the hood was crooked and jack up in the corner and didn't close properly. I would strongly not recommend this company as I wish I had gone somewhere else. read more

Seriously one of the best repair shop experiences ever. Honest, kind, and knowledgeable. We rolled in there in a borrowed minivan with our three kids. We're driving cross-country and the a/c died (we're from San Francisco so the kids can't take the South Dakota summer heat), and then the check engine light came on. Chris interrupted his work on other vehicles and checked out our van while we hung out in their nice lounge. We were there for a couple of hours and I really can't say enough how awesome they were. We were tired and it was so nice to have some cold water and a couch to sit on. They didn't even seem to be annoyed by the kids. Chris gave us all of the options for repair and Tina went out of her way to be friendly. Super great experience. Took a Chevy to them for engine replacement in May 2022. Returned the vehicle to them three times: running poorly, no power, several sensors unhooked, vacuum lines unhooked, vacuum leaks, brackets unhooked, lifters not adjusted, check engine light on within minutes (each time), stalling, backfires, general mess. In January 2023 I finally got the vehicle back and the plug wires melted off the first day and I broke down along the road. After nearly a year of dealing with the shop, I took the vehicle to another mechanic in February 2023. The following was found: bad distributor, timing incorrect, plugs gapped wrong, missing and broken heat shields, melted wires on O2 sensor and oil sensor, bad vacuum lines, various screws and bolts missing. I am also assuming the a/c is no longer charged, but obviously I cannot verify in February. Vehicle now runs phenomenally, thanks to another mechanic. I clearly will not do business with Wicked ever again, nor would I recommend services. read more

In June 2019 my husband and I were traveling from Des Moines, Iowa to Hill City, SD for a week long stay in our motorhome at Rafter J Bar Campground. We got about 5 miles west of Rapid City (only about 20 miles from our destination) when the RV transmission "bit the dust". We were stranded alongside the road. A deputy from the Pennington County Sheriff's Department arrived on scene about 15 minutes later. He helped us arrange for a crew from Olson Towing to come out and first spend some time diagnosing the problem to see if anything could be fixed on site. They determined that nothing could be done on site to get us up and going, so they towed us back to Rapid City. The crew from Olson towing was excellent, by the way. Very friendly and technically competent. And they got to us within about 45 minutes of the original call to them. And the deputy from Pennington County parked a ways behind us with his lights on to force passing traffic over. Another deputy arrived later and assisted as well, and kudos to both of them. Extremely professional. So we were towed to a repair shop in Rapid City called Wicked Wrenches. The shop is owned by Chris and Tina Burlison. I can't say enough about how much they helped us. We had the existing transmission installed only two years prior, and it only had 3,000 miles on it. We provided Chris with details on where the transmission was purchased and the shop that installed it, and he took over from there. By the next morning he had gotten the repair covered by warranty and a new transmission ordered. Unfortunately it was going to take at least a week to get the new tranny, so with Chris & Tina's help we "set up camp" in their parking lot and made that our home base for the week. During that time frame two other "stranded" motorists arrived, each had broken down on the road like we had. Their problems were less severe, and he got their units repaired, and they were on their way. We had towed our car behind us, so we were able to do all the sightseeing that we had originally planned. And we just drove our car back to Iowa at the end of our trip and left the RV with Chris to repair when it came in. We will take another trip out to retrieve it when it's done. It's clear to me that Chris and Tina care about their customers. They moved to this new location recently giving them much more space and "capacity" for work. Anyone needing repair services should give them a try. I'm sure you'll be happy. And if you're stranded alongside the road reading this review, you can't go wrong with Wicked Wrenches.
