I stopped by here today. This time I got 5 pounds turkey, 4 pounds brisket, 2 quarts baked brisket beans and a container of mac and cheese. This place is wonderful. It's outdoor seating and very relaxing. You have to deliver the food to your table and you might have a bit of a wait, but it is worth it. Today the weather was nice and I enjoyed relaxing waiting for the food to come out. The owner personally brought it out to me to take. For starters the mac and cheese is to die for. I don't know how they do it but you can taste the smokiness in the Mac & Cheese. It's a wonderful comfort food on its own. The baked brisket beans is quite good as well. When I was remembering from the last time i came that was what i remembered the most. Lastly the Turkey and Beef brisket were cooked very well. They both had a wonderful smokiness to and were fresh off the smoker. He literally made them to order from when i ordered earlier that day by text message to when i picked them up a few hours later. Again I will come here again. It's a bit of a drive for me to go there, but it is definitely worth the drive. read more

Great bark! Not enough bite. The brisket was cooked well. It was tender and most and fell apart in my fingers. It was clear that they took their time cooking it. The flavor was good and somewhat smoky but wasn't consistently through all the meat. Don't get me wrong. The first bite was delicious. I just wanted my eyes to roll back in my head throughout the meal and that just didn't happen. The pulled pork was nothing to write Yelp about. Well, I take that back. After I ate most of it, I tried it with the spicy sauce and it was pretty good. I'm going with five stars for now because I would go back and will go back--partly to relive that first bite and partly to see if it was a fluke. Update: I'm hedging on four stars. We tried the ribs and baked beans. The ribs were tough (not tender) and seasoned with a dry rub that had way too much pepper. We ended up throwing them away. The baked beans weren't much better. Very great experience both with the food & service! First timers checking this place out the other day and we were not disappointed. The price point is great and we all know BBQ can get pretty expensive. I loved the creations their menu featured. I had the "Rick" which was brisket and smoked Turkey together on a sandwich. It had pickles and a little mustard. Very good. We also had the baked beans and the Mac and cheese for sides. Both were great and I loved how creative the beans were and the hugs chunks of meat it included. My husband had the plain brisket sandwich as well as the brisket chili and he enjoyed them both. We were looking for something to eat fast to take back home while out running errands in Catonsville. We're not familiar with the area, but found this food truck through Google. We were pleased to find there were no customers on a Saturday afternoon around 12:30 so we ordered and were given our sandwiches with barely any wait time. The sandwiches are incredible. I ordered the Brisket and it's excellent. Moist, flavorful, smoky, and the sandwich was pretty large. I was expecting a smaller sandwich since it's what I've experienced from other food trucks in the past. The sauces were OK, we got sweet and hot to try, they were nothing to write home about. I'm knocking a star off for the Cole Slaw. I agree with another Yelper, the portions are very small. I think for the price, they should be larger. I wish it wasn't almost, sweet tasting, and could have used salt. Maybe it's just a different style of cole slaw than what I'm used to? I just wasn't impressed? Will I return? Oh absolutely. I was so excited to try this place out since it's right down the street from my house and was super disappointed. The overall impression:Lacking. The Location and ambiance are fun with ample parking and an inviting outdoor seating area and fire pit. Music from a speaker was playing and the overall feel is welcoming. Ordered 2 pulled pork sandwiches even though I came to try their turkey/pork mix but they were sold out of turkey and their Mac and cheese. On a Saturday!? We paid $30 for two sandwiches and two sides which I thought was over priced considering the size of the sides. In my opinion if you're competing with places like mission bbq you have to be better priced on your sides. I would have easily gotten two sides if they were $2 each instead of almost $4 for a lousy serving. The sandwich: The meat serving was generous which was nice. It was definitely seasoned to say the least and some bites were overpowering with pepper. You are able to choose your sauce and I chose the sweet while my hubs got the spicy. I recently visited Wieland's again, and I was very impressed. Had a nice conversation with the manager and got the pork and brisket sandwich. I also got some of their smoked wings. Everything was really well done, very moist and well smoked. Their vinegar based barbecue sauce is tasty and the thai chili sauce for the wings has just the right amount of spice. Update - been here many many times since first finding them in 2017 and continue to love it. Originally at the truck back at the garden center, then the storefront (which was short lived), then the truck over by the bank, and now the truck at the bottom of the lot off Edmondson Rd. TBH, I think this new location is the easiest and enjoy it the most. They have their own little BBQ nook going there. The hours are a bit limited now, it's kind of catch while catch can, but in all honestly this is small batch bbq, not a production kitchen, so I don't mind keeping an eye on the calendar and clock to get great bbq vs the convenience of dropping into a local chain for mediocre brisket. For transparency, when there's brisket on the menu I tend not to mess around with pork or chicken and for goodness sake I have no need for sides when I have brisket in front of me, so my enthusiasm for Wielands is really only based on their brisket. They give you about a half pound sandwich for 12 bucks, which considering the price of brisket retail, and the labor of smoking brisket, is quite a deal. They're using a rotisserie assisted stick burner, not an indoor oven, and you can taste the difference. Wieland's brisket is not only as good or better than I've ever made at home, and definitely the best I've had in Maryland, but it's genuinely some of the best brisket I've had in the country. I've been lucky enough (or unlucky ? ) to have travelled extensively all over this great country for work, and constantly seeking out the best BBQ I can find wherever I go, having sampled the delights in places renowned for their bbq prowess like TX,OK, MO, KS, TN, GA, NC, SC and even finding good bbq in unexpected places like MA. From holes in the wall, to fancy joints to competitions to spending late nights with my own smoker, I'm a BBQ fan and straight up, Wieland's brisket is some of the best I've had. As a point of reference, it's absolutely way better than Hard 8 north of Dallas, who seems to keep their brisket wrapped during the full cook or something as it was bland (like roast beef, not like smoked brisket) and *dripping* with grease to the point where my coworker (also a bbq enthusiast) and I were getting stomachaches while eating. If you've ever been lucky enough to try Mikeska's on Rt 10 between Houston and SAT, I'd put it right up there with that brisket. There's a place in an STL burb that had similiarly great brisket (no, not sweetfire, much better than that) but I can't remember their name. Point being, I've eaten a lot of q around the country, I'm picky, I've had the best of the best there is to offer in BBQ, and Wielands is right up there. And in Maryland ... who would have thunk : ) I just like it straight rub, or maybe with some sliced white onions and jalapeños, or a liberal sprinkling of hot sauce. If you prefer sauce, they have a great one and will gladly keep it on the side for you. Bottom line, with Wielands I no longer have to smoke at home. If they closed I would have no choice but to start spending overnights with the smoker again, because once you've had Wieland's brisket nothing else in the area will do. We found this barbeque food truck in Yelp while looking for a pet friendly place to eat out. Our dog Oscar is going to turn 15 next month and he gets very anxious when we leave him alone... so if you have a pet friendly restaurant that you can recommend please do so. We tried the brisket and pulled pork sandwiches and both were very good but we liked the pulled pork better. For my taste the brisket had too much fat... of course my husband said there's no such thing as too much burned brisket fat. We went on a Saturday around 1:30 and after like 10 min they put a "sold out" sign... and they had just opened at 11... that tells you how good it is. There is parking space but when you leave make sure you turn right because that little part of the street is just one way. I didn't know and thank God there were no cars coming... I should have just left when I opened the door to a cover band blocking the entrance or when instead of greeting me, the woman at the counter just said "we are out of mac and cheese". But choices were limited and we were hungry. The brisket was so salty and dry it turned my mouth to dust. The cups they provide for water were the size of Dixie cups which was unfortunate since the brisket tasted like I was licking a salt lick. My mouth is still dry. The pickle slices were less salty than this beef. The roll fell apart as soon as I picked it up so I ate my brisket with a fork. About half was ends which were extremely salty. The other half were more inner slices but they were so dry. The extreme saltiness might have been less obvious had I been able to eat my meal on the roll. There was no sauce on the meat and it was quite dry so it must have been a very cheap roll to fall apart when picked up. The beans were okay but very vinegary and overpriced at $3 for a small cup. The "coleslaw" seemed to be grated cabbage in water and no seasoning. Also $3. My husband's sandwich was half turkey and half brisket and he said that although the brisket was very salty it was kept in check by the less salty turkey. The place is very cramped with few places to sit. They provide plastic silverware and paper plates which is not eco-friendly and seems both chintzy and wasteful. They bring your food out (the young man who did that was very nice and friendly) but you have to bus your own tables. Signage about where to put the trays and trash was sparse. It was also in the same area they put the band which made it very awkward to throw away our trash. To accommodate the band which was bizarrely in the entrance of the restaurant they squished all of the other seats together. I had to climb over other seats to leave. This meant we couldn't get to the bathroom or even to get water, another patron had to fill our tiny cups. It seemed like a fire code violation to me, it was difficult to get in or out of the restaurant. Also: about 5 minutes after we sat down, people who came in after us had mac and cheese so I don't know what that was about. read more

I wanted some BBQ, so my Husband heard about this Restaurant. This quaint little place is located in the heart of Catonsville's Main Street. You place, your order, they give you a number to put on your table and you seat yourself. We got the BBQ Sampler which consists of Beef, Pork,Turkey and Sausage with Mac n Cheese and Cole Slaw. Wielands is a nice bbq place that is located in Frederick road. It used to be a food truck but they got an official location a couple months ago. The first couple times I came here, I only got the beef brisket and pulled pork. They were the main meat options and they were both delicious. The beef brisket was nice and tender. Easy to chew and not too tough like other brisket. The pulled pork is equally as good. You can taste the flavor of the pork when it hits your tongue. They usually give both on buns and no sides come with it. It can definitely get a little pricy if you wanted meat and sides. The crowning jewel here is definitely the ribs. They only have hem Tuesdays though, it should be everyday!!!! It's one of my favorite rib places honestly. The bones are really meaty and the drub gives it a great flavor. If you live in the area and like bbq food, this is definitely a place you should check out. read more

Man. It's tough to find good BBQ in Maryland but this place is legit. Grubhub options in Ellicott City have been scarce for years but recently added a bunch and thankfully this place. I've always heard about Wielands but just never made it there so delivery was perfect excuse to send it. I got the brisket cheesesteak, turkey sandwich, and pulled pork sandwich. Per usual couldn't make a decision so said screw it, it's Friday, lets go. Everything was amazing. The brisket takes the cake as the best meat - it's so easy to get brisket dry especially when it's lean but it was perfectly moist. Then turn it into a cheesesteak 10/10. Same deal with the turkey - super moist and flavor wasn't too smoky but more of a spice from the rub. On a first visit, I'm thinking it's the best BBQ in the area. Delicious, perfectly moist brisket and flavorful pulled pork. No sauce needed. Bread is sufficient to hold up to the meat. I didn't try anything else, but the combination "great one" sandwich was superlative. The Carolina sauce was a mild, vinegary option if anything needed moistening. The only negatives: on a busy Saturday, the wait for a simple carryout was excessive. Much too slow for a style of food where almost all the work is well before it's served (or at the end of the day). And sadly, their hours are limited, open four days a week. Nice little space just off Frederick road in the downtown strip of Catonsville. Plenty of street parking, some outdoor seating. The kind of small/local establishment that deserves our support. The beef brisket and pulled pork is amazing here and beats any of the competition in the DMV area! The beef brisket and pork have definitely improved since they first operated from their food truck. Both are really moist and never dry. The two sauces they have both go well with their food, but I highly recommend the 'Kansas' flavor. On the downside, the Mac n Cheese has gotten a little worse. Before, it was super cheesy and hot - even better than Mission BBQ's. I recently got it again and it was cold and a bit bland. This was clearly a hit-or-miss experience. From my understanding, they only offer ribs on Tuesdays, which I can recommend. The dry rub is Dank and the meat falls off the bone easily. read more

Ordered again through foodsby for lunch and while I loved the brisket cheesesteak and beans, I decided to try something a little different. Went with the Rick and mac/cheese this time. Combined beef brisket and turkey, it made for a great lunch. Nice smokey flavor in both meats and also the mac/cheese. Came with a good tangy BBQ sauce that wasn't the thick sugar-laden stuff and worked well on the sandwich. I just wish they included more sauce! A girlfriend of mine asked me to go with her to get some brisket. I wasn't interested in getting any food; I was just going for the drive. Wieland is on Frederick Rd, a main street in Catonsville. The parking is tough, but park where you can, being confident that the food is worth it. She ordered a pound of brisket and their brisket baked beans. Her food was ready in about 15 minutes. I tasted a piece of brisket and it was succulent, tender, and flavorful. For those who are hardcore meat lovers, like fogo de chao meat lovers, this is your place. It is definitely high quality. I then tasted the baked beans with brisket...I think my soul left my body and came back. I closed my eyes and didn't realize how long I had them closed. I went to the register to order my own brisket baked beans. It had a smokey, sweet, barbecue flavor. The brisket was all meat; no frufru pieces of fat. The bowl was empty before I got home. Here is why Wieland gets on my nerves...they do not have traditional hours of operation and are not open every day. My friend and I visited on a Saturday, I was back the next day on Sunday and they were closed. Pissed. I really wanted baked beans and brisket so I went to Mission BBQ. While their brisket baked beans were okay, I knew I had compromised. I should not have cheated on Wieland. It was not worth it. Wieland told me what it was from the beginning. I just hoped that they would be more available. So I now have adjusted my schedule to work around their hours because I know where home is. Lol. read more

I said that's fine, I understand you're busy and I'm ok with that wait. Good things come to those who wait and all that. They then refused to even take my order - they claimed to be too busy with call-in/online orders to add my order to a queue, even though one guy was just kinda standing around. I suppose I could've ordered online at that point, but I've never had a place just flat-out tell me they're not gonna let me order, and I don't feel like supporting such a place. So it pains me to give this place two stars....They were easily a 5 star joint a several weeks back, but sadly they have digressed. When I first sank my teeth into the glorious brisket/pulled pork (Great One) I was wisked off to bbq heaven with the impeccable bark that donned both the lean and moist pork and brisket. It had that awesome smokey flavor that was so good you didn't need sauce. Fast forward many sandwiches and weeks later, my 13 dollar sandwich is riddled with soggy fat filled pork and brisket. Today, I nearly threw out half the sandwich. Wieland, whoever you got running your sandwich assembly line for your Foodsby delivery should be retrained or for put somewhere else. It's only open Thursday and Friday so I wait until Thursday to head there. The food is fantastic! I had a brisket sandwich. It was huge and the best brisket I've had in Maryland so far. They have sides and things, but I'm trying to stay awake at work. The service was good and relatively fast and the prices are not unreasonable. Go there for great BBQ and good music. I cannot even believe yesterday was my first time here. The food is SO good and the service is so friendly! The ambiance outside is also adorable. My husband and I split a brisket sandwich, a turkey sandwich, cole slaw, and mac n cheese. Our platter also came with 2 small bowls of homemade pickles. Literally everything was delicious. The brisket had a great flavorful bark and was perfectly tender; the fat melted in your mouth and the flavor was nice and smoky. The turkey was juicy with a subtly smoked flavor, and was also very tender. The slaw was vinegar based and very crunchy, with shredded carrots giving it a great sweetness. The MAC was the best I've ever had in my life. It was creamy and cheesy and the noodles were tender without being overlooked. The most underrated part of our meal we're the crunchy homemade pickles - I might buy a jar next time- and the homemade sauces! My first test was to ask for brisket "wet" some folks that means with BBQ sauce ...wrong. its fatty tender brisket the way G-D and Texas intended it to be. The girl behind the abnormally high counter knew it......awesome...great start. The brisket sandwich was delicious and the Cole slaw was ok. But damn the brisket was good. The brisket here is good. Like, legit good. It's authentic and makes me think of places like Franklin. It's not AS good (almost nobody is). I also can't say it's better than some of the more esteemed places in the region -- mainly DC spots (I.e. Federalist Pig). But it's good. Worth me going out of my way two weekends in a row to get my hands on it. What I love most about it is the bark. Where it lacks in smoky flavor (it's a mild smoke, oak I think), it makes up for it with a dense, salty, peppery, crisp bark that really compliments the tender, fatty meat inside. It's like a savory candy bar. Also, a note about the meat. This is where so many places fall flat -- ordering beef and pork from Sysco or wherever. The meat he is using tastes a step up so props to him if he's spending a little extra on quality. I've tried the brisket a couple of times now, but only tried the pork and turkey once. Overall his meats are mild. Again I think he's using oak, not hickory or anything like that. And it's not a bad thing at all. The flavor of the pork really shines, and it's juicy and fatty. It's really good. I'm not a huge fan of turkey breast. It's ok. A little rubbery, but that's always the case. Didn't try any sides, only a few are offered. If I'm being honest, I'm a little disappointed there isn't any dessert available, or perhaps a few additional sides. But my understanding is it's an expansion from a food truck so maybe they're planning to add more. It's hard to carry a large menu on a truck. Bottom like: the meat is the star. It's the best brisket you're going to find in the state of Maryland. I can pretty much state that as fact. Yes it's better than Mission and Urban and all of those chains.
