I think I might have set my expectations a bit too high. Pulling up to the restaurant and seeing the massive amount of chopped fire wood, I was like this place is going to be off the hook. Upon entering, I thought it was an interesting setup because I assumed that this spot was a restaurant/(dive)bar. Turns out it is a restaurant in a liquor store...or maybe it's a liquor store in a restaurant. I'll admit that this misunderstanding was on me. Someone suggested the restaurant, and I did not do any follow-up research. Although the restaurant is connected to a liquor store, you cannot consume alcohol inside. But, I guess that was not a deal breaker because I was more interested in some good ol' BBQ. At the counter, I started to look over the menu because there were quite a lot of interesting items. They have a long list of various BBQ/meat items and a bunch of sides. For my dining pleasure, I went with the two meat (general BBQ and sausage), two sides combo (greens and mac n cheese), which was about 18 bucks. The price for the amount of food wasn't too bad. To be frank the food was not what I expected. Ok, the food was not horrible, but I think that I might have set my expectations too high. Normally, when I think of Texas BBQ, I think of meat that is slowly cooked so that it's very tender. The meat here seemed like it was cooked on a grill and mixed with BBQ sauce immediately prior to serving. Stopped by here to get some lunch while we were traveling to Baltimore. Great little spot with a big variety of items. We were served a a beef soup as a complimentary appetizer while we waited on our main course. The soup was delicious!!! Pulled pork is sweet, so heads up if that is what you are looking for. I am Sad. I recently ordered online from Bon-Fire Outdoor Charcoal via Yelp. Arrived early and noticed that they were cooking the brisket on a griddle like it was a strips of bacon. I wanted to order the 3 meat combo initially but opted for the 3 meat platter thinking that it would be a larger portion ($35) for 2 people. After getting out of the hospital when you're craving real food flavor this was a great stop for lunch. Their brisket was fatty and soft and delicious. Sauce wise there's a great selection, the wife likes the Bourbon sauce, I prefer their standard classic sauce because it's so sweet KC style, yum. Side wise loved their baked beans, great mix. Only points off was goopy Cole slaw, we took it home and added more cabbage, then it was just right. Typically when I visit a place and I'm like 'meh' I'll give it another try to just to make sure they weren't having a bad day or maybe my tastebuds were off that day (you never know). Stopped by this place on a random drive. All their food looked delicious. I got the pulled chicken sandwich. While it was pulled but more small tender, the chicken was moist, and the sauce was really good. The beans were different but delicious with a slight vinegar taste. Mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy and they gave us a soup for free that was also very delicious. But that sweet tea and corn bread.... so good! Cornbread was like a little light cake. I enjoyed my experience here, prior to the "Now". This is a kinda small, but kinda big restaurant. There isn't a lot of seating, but it feels big inside, with high ceilings and being very long. A whole rack comes with 4 sides! The portions are large, the staff is very kind and this is our new go-to spot. We highly recommend this place! They also have Baklava that is really good and their sweet tea is probably the best I've ever had, it's real brewed tea and perfectly sweetened. My best description is it lacked finesse, just a tin full of lettuce with a few strips of meat on top. I should have ordered a sandwich but I was trying to stay away from carbs. My sister ordered the turkey and brisket platter. The meat and fries were good but who the heck puts carrots in greens (yuck!); they were also sweet instead of savory and had too many stems. The ribs are great, which is saying a lot for me because I tend to snub ribs that aren't smoked. The wings are cooked perfectly, my only suggestion would be mixing Old Bay into the breading mix in addition to the sprinkle afterwards, we're in Maryland and we love Old Bay. Wife got the pit beef and pit ham with the Tiger Horseradish. The horseradish alone was great but paired with the beef was just phenomenal. The ham was good too don't get me wrong, but the beef and horseradish stole the show for me. The collards and pork & beans were great. The Mac and cheese and Cole slaw were good in their own respect, but not what should bring you back for more. I went here yesterday (Thursday) on the hottest May 3rd I've experienced in the DC area. I've definitely experienced a few hotter May 3rd in Phoenix (where I'm from). See my Zoes Kitchen review in Germantown 2 weeks earlier on the coldest April 19th [also a Thursday] I've ever experienced. I'm lucky to have Bon Fire close to my office. I've only been here now three times because it's a lot to eat for lunch, takes a bit longer than just getting something at Chick FilA, Wawa, or places up north of 695. I've never been disappointed with the portion size and the taste. This is hands down the best BBQ I've had in Maryland. There is a place in Bethesda that was also really good, but they were overpriced and didn't give enough food for what I was expecting. Also, Mission BBQ in Columbia (see my Mission BBQ review) is great too, but Bon Fire is #1 in MD. The meat is tender, and the BBQ is flavorful on my beef pit sandwich. One consideration to go here on Thursday was that I had been sick this week, and they give you free soup (Dine-In only). Soup is tasty with chunks of meat, noodles, & spices. The other soup option near my office is chicken noodle soup from Chick FilA, but their soup is weak. I only get CFA soup if I have a free deal for it. On the menu, it says that the combo for the sandwich comes with fries & 20 oz drink. But they will replace with one of their other sides for no extra charge. I got what I joke is my favorite veggie Mac n' Cheese! Their mac n' cheese is an excellent tasting thick layer of cheese. When I go to a bbq place I'm unfamiliar with, I will ask for a sample of the mac n' cheese since I'm a mac connoisseur with taste buds to tell the difference from a good & bad mac n' cheese. Additionally, they were super fast with my food. I hadn't even finished paying, and my food was ready! My only complaint is that the 20 oz sweet tea was too heavy with ice. I found it by searching keto-friendly near me, and this was the only place that popped up that didn't require driving further into the city and was only 3 miles from my house! So moist and flavorful and cooked and seasoned perfectly. The horseradish sauce they provide + the pit beef = the single greatest combination of flavors in the history of the world. The pulled pork was moist and delicious, even if a little sweet. The collard greens and coleslaw were solid, as well, though could probably use more salt when I go next time. I tried some of my partner's pit turkey and it was SO GOOD - I'll probably go with pit beef and pit turkey on my next trip (there will be so many next trips). The staff were amazing and super friendly, especially for a mostly dead Tuesday night - there was a moment of watching Family Feud together and laughing at this ridiculous family. They realized after we'd started eating that they had accidentally not charged us for both platters, but let us have it on the house, so I chucked a $20 into their tip jar as a thank you. I tried the brisket, coleslaw and potato salad. It was all terrible. The brisket was sliced into almost paper-thin slices so you couldn't taste the meat and it was surrounded with BBQ sauce(sauce that I asked be added). The sauce was also run-of-the-mill sauce, tasted like a cheaper version of Kraft sauce. The consistency of meat and sauce was almost like pulled pork. Which would have been great if the brisket were actually good quality brisket. The meat did not appear to be smoked or even tasted smoked, it tasted like stringy fat. My immediate plan was to return for lunch! Very cute and clean restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. Ample parking in front and along the side. A great variety of menu items including BBQ chicken and ribs, sandwiches, salads....and last but certainly not least - the PIT MEATS - Beef, Turkey, Ham. Good variety of sides to pick from including coleslaw, mashed potatoes, baked beans, collard greens, and roasted vegetable medley (I'm sure I've forgotten a few). The sandwiches were terrific. We've been craving real BBQ and beef for a while and didn't want to buy/cook it ourselves. I've been looking on Yelp for a BBQ restaurant that wasn't a chain like Mission, and was relatively close by. Bonfire was only 7 minutes away with great reviews, perfect. I placed our order online through their website, no issues. My only gripe is the online order placements never give you a pickup time. Nothing on this location, many establishments use Beyond Menu, but just a heads up, if you want an accurate pick-up time, maybe call to place your order. When we arrived, our order was ready but the cashier was not friendly at all. We got to the counter she was basically ignoring us, I had to speak first that I was picking up an order, she grabbed it, and I signed my receipt, and when I checked our bag to make sure it was all there, I asked her "what makes a combo meal?" because that's what we ordered and I thought we got drinks with them. So she said, yeah you get a drink and grabbed cups and asked what we wanted. Like, I don't know, I've never been here before! She said sweet tea and I was sold, done. But I was annoyed that SHE was annoyed she had to wait on us. As we were waiting for her, my boyfriend saw on a sign above the counter, a special on Burnt Ends, a meal for $12.99, that wasn't on the online menu. We were pretty hungry, we knew sandwiches alone weren't going to cut it, so he placed that order separate and we waited at a table for it. Less than 10 minutes, it was ready and we were on the way home. As for the food, really great. The Pit Beef sandwich was nice and moist and the Hickory BBQ Sauce I asked on it was tasty. I'm glad they didn't slather the sandwich with it either, because I wanted to taste the meat. I was afraid it was going to be dry too, but no way, so moist and flavorful. The fries were ok, the portion sizes was kind of small, and nothing great. The collard greens were okay too, I think they could have used some more salt. The Mac and Cheese was not good. Very dry and tasteless. The coleslaw however, that was the star of the sides. SO GOOD. Not too vinegary or mayo-y, I liked the thin cut of the cabbage, not huge chunks. The Burnt Ends were soooo good! However, they weren't "burnt" they weren't crispy, but the meat was melt-in-your-mouth good. Will I come back here? Absolutely. Tender with a great taste (tho a bit too much salt) that can be enhanced with their own bbq sauce they have tableside. The sauce is a rather mild sweet sauce that could've been a bit stronger for my liking. The buns could have been also been heated up to enhance the experience. The macaroni and beans (albeit a bit salty) were nice and filling and are well-priced. The soup I believe is a broth mixed with onions, cream of mushroom, and some meat juices. Very savory, but again, a bit salty. Service: The staff was friendly and greeted with a smile. The food was well-priced, all things considering. They have to-go boxes out on the counter in case you have leftovers you wanna take home which is a major convenience. And it only took maybe 5 minutes for the food to be out. However, refills cost $1.00... I totally don't like this, especially since they fill the cup with SO MUCH ice, that you don't get a lot of drink in the first place. They do offer free water though, so that slightly makes up for it. Atmosphere: It's a very homey place. The decor is basically a super proud Marylander's den (supporting the sports teams like the Ravens) along with some memorabilia from license plates from other states (and really old ones from Maryland) to old records and bottle products. Finish: It's a good place to get some nice meats and other homestyle comfort foods at a decent price. I occasionally get the sandwich combos because they come with a side and drink. The sandwiches were always pretty decent and you a good amount of fries. That would always be my usual. My latest visit changed everything. On a whim, I decided to get their ribs to try. The ribs were absolutely delicious. The meat fell of the bone so easily and the sauce was flavorful. The meat was really tender and not super chewy like other ribs I've had. With the ribs, you get two sides and get a free beef soup if you dine in. I'll start off by saying the BBQ the sauce was not my cup of tea it had a Red/Orange type color & tasted more like molasses and no kick to it. All the meat was covered in this sauce & the meat on the ribs was flakey and not juicey. The meat on the Sandwhich looked & tasted like it was just scooped out the sink covers in molasses & thrown on the bread. No love in it. An Old Bay wing had a long piece of hair wrapped around it so we just tossed it didn't get to try it. The Macaroni & Cheese was the only good thing. Customer Service was bad. We felt like ghosts walking in the place as the workers chatted with each other not even looking up until we interrupted their conversation by saying "Hello, Can we order?"
